For years we have driven past this place.
Looks huge from the outside w/ bright red paint covers the building, You can't help but see it.
In a shady part of San Berdooo... You feel you have to hold on to your purse tight!
Worth going to.
My Husband, (Picky) teenage daughter and I went.
Everything we ordered was delicious.
My daughter got the stuffed shells covered in red sauce. She hates Red sauces but Loved this one. I was Shocked.
I got a pasta dish with chicken and mushrooms, It had a wonderful sauce made with wine. A big portion too! Enough to eat the rest for lunch the next day.
My Husband got a Three pasta plate. He loved everything.
The bread rolls are o.k. but I love the garlic butter.
Walking by tables the pizza people ordered looked awesome so maybe next time we will get that but the pasta dishes were so good it's gonna be hard to pull myself away from it.
I love to sit by the kitchen when we go out to eat so I can see the food coming out.... Like at a sushi bar, I love to watch the sushi chef...
If the experience is as good next time as it was this time they will deserve a 5 star rating.
I highly recommend this place.. -

!!! BE CAREFUL !!!... Food is good, service is good. However, bring cash !!!!!!!!!.. My visa debit card was compromised, and this was the only place in a week that I used it. Lisa (Owner) was NOT understanding AT ALL and told me "It Could Not Have Happened There Because They Are A Family Business"... I guess ignorance is bliss... Again, Beware if you plan on eating here.. If you want food just just as good, if not better, and better service to boot, I recommend Two Guys in Highland.

Review from The C.
San Bernardino, CA
After 20 years of lunches & dinners at Alfredo's, when it was "the best available in the immediate area", I give the 2-star "I've experienced better" rating.
___Service___
Usually local high school gals & other young ladies consists of:
1-"How many?" with a turn-on-heel
2- Followed by hurrying to keep up to the table/booth
3-Accepting the large, red, menus
4-Eventually receiving ordered drinks
5-Eventually having orders taken
6-Flagging down - or getting up and refilling yourself
7-Assertively requesting to-go containers/the check/refills
Lucky 7? Not in our book!
But, it was long "the best in the immediate area", so we kept returning.
Here are our 20 years of observations on the food:
___Salads___
Caesar's Salad Alfredo: Good
With Grilled Chicken Breast: Great
Green Salad: Good
With the Italian Dressing: Great
Antipasta: Meh
Tomatoes & Onions: Save Your Money
___Starters___
Sauteed Mushrooms & Garlic: Great - Make a meal with their bread
Fried Breaded Mozzarella Sticks: Typical
Buffaloo Wings: Typical
___Pastas___
All are "typical"
"Rochelle" & the signature "Alfredo" tie for #1
White Liguine & Clams #2
Rigatoni Primavera #3
Mushroom & Garlic Chicken #4
Chicken Cacciatore #5
Eggplant Parmigiana #6
___Pizzas___
Better than:
The local competitors, which are:
$5 Pronto Pizza & Pizza Hut (both a block away in each direction)
On par with:
The more distant Pizza House ($3.99 Jumbo Pepperonni coupons weekly in PennySaver), Sierra Way, just north of Highland Ave., (Old Shakey's building)
Inferior to:
Gournet Pizzas Shoppe, Redlands, (also voted "Best Pizza in IE, by IE Magazine, 5 years)
That said. Alfredo's best pizzas to order are:
Veggie Special #1
"The Works" #2
The "Alfredo Sauce Pizza": Too thickly fatty & creamy &
"Meat Lover's": Overwhelming
These last (2) pizzas tie for #3
Best Pizza in SB:
Get fresh "heat & eat" pizza from Fresh & Easy on Del Rosa & Highland and add whatever you prefer at home.
As for their sandwiches:
We've never tried any; we're not interested in that portion of the menu.
As for their bread:
It is delicious! Always soft, warm and just-out-of-the-oven freshness!
The garlic butter is tasty, too.
Be sure to order a dozen to take home with a quart of the whipped garlic butter!
Desserts:
The mocha cuppuchinno ice cream is: Spectacular!
The Spumoni ice cream is: Spectacular!
Some hot Inland summer afternoon, pop in to taste test these delights! They are both beyond rival!
So, after 20 years, what do we usually order at Alfredo's?
If we're dining in, which we don't do there very much since their fire, this is what we order:
A large Caesar's Salad with the grilled chicken breast
A large Caesar's Salad Alfredo
A large Green Salad, (no cheese & pepperonni, please)
Fried Breaded Mozzarella Sticks
Sauteed Mushrooms in Garlic Sauce
Pasta Rochelle
Pasta Alfredo
Any (1-2) of Pastas #2-6, (See "Pasta", above)
A dozen bread to-go (with a tub of whipped garlic butter, please)
And, (1) of each ice cream, shared by the table
Iced tea to drink with refills being hard to come by. So, we end up leaving the table, tall red plastic glass in-hand, to serve ourselves from the bus station littered with half-used pitchers.
The owners are a nice, Catholic local family. Our children attended school together at the local Catholic schools. Were it not for that, we would not continue patronizing the family (more than the restaurant); we would have stopped visiting Alfredo's many years ago.
NOTES:
Alfredo's still offers 2-for-1 early bird dinner coupons in the local paper.
Alfredo's still caters.
Alfredo's no longer offers the "bottomless bowl" of minestrone soup my children grew up loving. After the re-opening (after the fire), they dropped it from the menu - and raised their prices across the board.
Alfredo's offers to-go containers of their marinara sauce, (not on the menu)
Except for the lavatories, which were, (finally!), much-improved during the renovations after the fire, the place still looks (basically) as any long-timers will remember, (like it did before the fire), and it's still the "only game in town", if you want sit-down Italian.
It's nice for them, being "the only game in town".
As for the businesses receiving the Sun's awards, as Alfredo's did, at one time - (The banner still hangs from those years gone by) - please note that "it's a racket" in that business owners & their cohorts rush to buy up as many papers as possible. Then, send in the ballots from each, "stacking the ballot box". Those awards aren't granted on a 1-person, 1-vote basis. No, not by a long-shot! (Just something to keep in mind when determining which area business to patronize.)
If you don't have the ability or inclination to doctor up a Fresh & Easy "heat & eat", or, to bake your own, or to go to Redlands, etc (see above), by all means dine at Alfredo's before Pronto $5 Pizza, or, Pizza Hut. -

San Bernardino, CA
This place is a gem in Central SB. It's a family owned eatery and is a far cry in terms of quality from the generic chain restaurants *cough* *cough* Olive Garden *cough*. Reminds me of those places you only find in Little Italy's or on the East Coast. A good homestlye family-owned Italian place is rare in this area. The area is iffy but once inside you forget that and parking is a bit tricky in high peak times. The decor is cozy and home-y. It can be packed at times but it's no surprise and it's worth it. Everyone comes here from families, couples, students, and cops on some occasions (nice break from doughnuts).
Once you place your order, they give you complimentary AYCE bread and garlic butter (which is phenomenal!!!) better than Olive Garden by miles! Each of the set meals come with soup or salad. The soup is hearty and flavourful and salad is typical in a good way. Your entrees are typical for an Italian place and recognizable, various pastas, pizzas, and sandwiches. The pastas are served in big portions I always leave with a doggy bag. My personal favourite is the Alfredo Rochelle, fettucine served with broccoli and mushrooms in a creamy Alfredo sauce, just make sure to ask for chicken or shrimp because it's not standard. I believed the price is fair for the quality and portions.
Check this place out you won't regret it.It's worth venturing into SB. You get better from here then with chain restaurants and your helping a small business. -

This is a great Italian restaurant, especially for the money. I always get the spaghetti with mushroom sauce, with extra mushrooms. Their mushrooms are incredible. But what's even more so are their meatballs. I have never tasted meatballs or a ground meat product as good. The closest is Downtown LA's Engine Company No. 28's hamburger patties. The bread is the bomb too.
Great staff and the owner, who's there more often than not, is a wonderful! -

There are few good Italian restaurants in Riverside and San Bernardino, but this is one. Like another reviewer said you do not have to drive to Claremont for this restaurant.
Excellent service! Employees were very attentive to my party's needs.
Great selection of dishes including chicken scallopini, veal parmesan, and chicken parmesan. Lots of leftovers to take home! The cheese bread is about $1.50, but worth it! The fresh cheese on top made it. The white garlic bread they offer is also tasty. -

the pizza was ok not the best. The services was good until my waiter changed then I felt like I was being rushed out during lunch time when I looked around there was only me and my party and two other tables full. I was approached by the manager to ask if everything was ok and I was like yes I paid with a credit card and then everything calmed down but I haven't been back and I won't.

I love their sauce! Except the sauce used for lasagna. I usually get the manicotti or the stuffed shells. The pasta isalways cooked just right and so is their sauce. I hate when the sauce is raw. The bread isnt very good but the garlic butter is. Also their minestrone tastes too much like tomato. The employees are very friendly and attentive, and the environment is usually peaceful and quiet.

I grew up eating at this place. I'd still be a regular if weren't a two hour drive away. Fortunately, I'm having a dress specially made and I have to make a few trips down for fittings. The pizza was not as good as I remembered it to be. The meatball sandwich was still pretty good. The prices are really good and the service is excellent.

We used to have a business a few blocks down from Alfredo's and we tend to go here for get togethers with our employees. The food is delicious, very reasonably priced, and the service has always been excellent. I haven't been there in a while, but I remember Angelica and Maria were both really sweet and friendly.
It's not everyday that I go back to SB, but whenever I'm in the area, I try to make a stop here. -

Delicious! Alfredo's has been in San Bernardino for 20+ years... I'm 32 and have been going since I was 8... and I know it's been there for longer than that! There's a reason it's always packed when you go there... the locals know that the food can't be beat! The fact that the neighborhood has taken a downturn around the restaurant should not deter one from going there. In fact, I think it keeps the place on a lower profile and leaves it as a true "diamond in the rough." Besides, if you go during lunchtime, you're sure to find a few of the local sheriffs there on their lunch break.
Answer this question: What other family run business do you know of actually shuts down for a WHOLE WEEK in the summer time and can remain unaffected? That's just what Alfredo's does... they're that good that they can afford to close down for a week and not lose any business. That should tell you something right there.
As most others have mentioned, the portions are always generous. The size of the side salad has shrunk in recent months, but the veggies are always fresh, and the fresh mozzarella, pepperoni and olives that top the salad give it that unique taste that whets your appetite just enough before the main course. Their fresh baked bread with garlic butter is always delicious, and if one isn't careful, you can stuff yourself on the bread alone! Any of their entrées are great any time of day, the full menu is available for lunch and dinner. But for lunch, they offer one of the best "bang for your buck" lunch deals in town! The "Peasant Lunch" special is great: Two French Bread pizzas with two toppings (I'm partial to pepperoni and olives) a side salad, bread, and a glass of WINE or Soda... all for $7.95! I challenge anyone to find a more satisfying and filling lunch that won't break the bank.
My personal dinner favorites are:
Chicken or Veal Parmigiana - served with a side of spaghetti. Excellent marinara covers the main dish, and always enough left over for the next day.
Lemon Garlic Chicken
Delicious strips of breast meat smothered in a light garlic sauce and topped with sautéed mushrooms and lemons. The lemons add a special zest to the sauce (I wouldn't recommend eating them, but the juice runs in to the sauce and makes it taste wonderful) and the mushrooms are so buttery and juicy, everything melts in your mouth. The chicken is moist and tender. All served on a bed of shell pasta.
Check out Alfredo's and you won't be disappointed... just come hungry! -

GREAT FOOD!!! huge portions, the best bread, and reasonable prices! I try and stay away because I can't stop eating once I start... It's that good!
Could be in a better location but it's been there for so long I don't think it would be the same. -

Loma Linda, CA
Alfredo's is a family run Italian restaurant from the old school...been around for 25+ years on Route 66. Bad neighborhood? Yes, but they have been there since it was a nice one! Tacky old checkerboard decor? Noisy, busy, and boisterous? Yeah, that's the way good Italian restaurants should be! Ya gotta problem wit dat? :D
This is pretty much the only authentic Italian place in the IE that I've been to. Their garlic dinner rolls are the best, and their homemade manicotti is just like my Italian grandmother used to make. Their homemade italian dressing has a very tasty, unique flavor...very tomato-y.
Alfredos is truly a San Berdu Route 66 classic! -
Review from Daryl I.
I'm pretty sure discussions of this place are well-covered ground, so I'm going to say that I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars. Simply because it's a good restaurant in an area not blessed with many, if any, good Italian places.
It's definitely a casual type place, with many of the touches that give it that old school feel. Although they have a pretty extensive menu, I chose to get pizza, simply because I've heard how good it is. And believe it or not, it actually delivers on that promise. The crust was delicious, as were the toppings.
Based on other reviews, I was expecting the worst in terms of service, but even though we didn't receive exemplary treatment, the waitress was charming in a self-deprecating way that made it bearable. -
Review from Angie m.
Long Beach, CA
A year or two ago I would have given Alfredo's 4-5 stars, but things seems to have changed and not for the better. Their bread used to be amazing! Fresh from the oven and so soft, but the last few times the bread served seemed to be a day old and warmed in the microwave :(
The service seems to have slacken too. I used to get a big hello and welcome but now it is just about getting you a seat so that they can run up to cover the front desk. Most times the waitress is nice, but if it a busy time, then you might have a hard time getting a refill or a box to to.
I wont give up on them but they need to step it up again. -

San Bernardino, CA
Probably one of the best Italian places in the area (which isn't saying much, but unless you want to drive to Upland or Claremont!)
Delicious bread and garlic butter, kind of their staple and as some other have said it can be addicting. Their entrees are all really large, enough to share or take a doggie bag.
Haven't had too many issues with the service, and my personal favorites are the antipasto salad, Ceasar salad and the garlic bread! -

Wow,
Maybe I went to a different restaurant with the same name at the same address.
Alfredo's is your run-of-the-mill 1970's style family Italian restaurant, replete with the checkered table cloths and cheesy interior. The food is also stuck in the 70's you get your choice of pasta with marinara, meat sauce, olive oil, etc. They have other dishes such as bakes pasta loaded with cheap mozzarella and their pizzas are nothing extraordinary.
The restaurant is located in a high crime area, it is small cramped and loud.
If Italian food that you can cook at home with boiling water, ragu and mozzarella cheese interests you then you will like Alfredo's, otherwise there are just too many other choices to spend your money at. -
Review from Earvin F.
I consider this restaurant one of the better Italian eatery places in general. The soft bread rolls and garlic butter is primarily what I enjoy eating at this restuarant. Their pasta is excellent along with their pizza. The 3-way combo is typically a good main menu starter if you are a first timer. More than enough portions that you will definitely have an additional meal or two for take home. Ambiance is really good for casual first dates if your primary intention is to bring your lady or guy to a good place to eat.
Take account for peak lunch and dinner times because this place does get crowded. You may get seated quickly. Service has always been on the plus side. Always return to this place if I'm hankering for some good authentic Italian food and I'm within 20 minutes from the restaurant. -

Alfredo's is a great find in a rather down-and-out neighborhood. Still, one of the best Italian restaurants that you'll find in all San Bernardino. At peak times, it can get crowded so I would recommend going early or in between lunch and dinner.
I especially love their Minestrone soup which usually comes with your entree. I also love getting their Peasant Lunch which consists of two French bread pizzas with two toppings, soup or salad, and a glass of wine or soda for around six bucks or so. Very good deal. Also recommended is the Chicken Cacciatore (Hunter Style). Good portions here and service is average. -

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. It's one of the few good things left in San Bernardino. Even better is when you eat there when local law enforcement is dining as well; at least you're in safe company.
The pizza is excellent with a nice, chewy crust and yummy toppings. Try yours with the alfredo sauce which makes for a unique, creamy taste.
The bread and garlic butter served at the beginning of each meal is enough to make your taste buds water. -

Terrible location. Last week when we pulled into the lot I was reminded of certain LA area slums.
Best item is the fresh bread rolls. They alone are worth a stop.
Although the menu is dated, I've never had a bad meal here.

Love Love Love this restaurant!! Their Lasagna is the best and you will always walk out with leftovers. The stuffed shells are great too! The bread and galic butter is just heavenly, seriously. I've never really had bad service but a lot of teenage girls do work here. Their pizza I always thought was good but nothing to rave about. But then I tried the canadian bacon and pineapple, OMG! The best I've ever had. Only thing I have to complain about is when I ordered the fettucini alfredo it was watery and the chicken was overcooked....blah! I'll never order that again. The rochelle is good too. Oh and the salad is great it comes with cheese and pepperoni

Bravissimo...
If your a fan of Olive Garden, which to me is an overrated restaurant, then you'll be quick to replace it with Alfredo's Pizza and Pasta By far, one of the best Italian restaurants that I have been at. Although it has a plain exterior is whats in the inside that counts.
The food here is amazing every time I come here. You come, and can ask for anything on the menu. I assure you, you'll leave with the same pleasant and satisfied smile. Not to mention a little extra for breakfast the next morning. The servings at this restaurant are more then enough. 90% of the time i come here, I end up taking some food home.
Not expensive at all, look to spend about 25 - 35 dollars for two people. Well worth checking out. -

The worst dining experience I ever had was at Alfredo's. And I eat out often, all over the tri-county area and beyond. I'd give it no stars of I could.
There is no customer service. My server and the cashier/hostess were rude. The food took forever to arrive. If it wasn't raining so badly, and I wasn't so hungry, I would have left.
And, the dishes are terrible: salty, not fresh, and unimaginative. It's certainly "not" authentic Italian. My friend who went with me got sick to his stomach.
The area doesn't bother me...just the bad service and food.
It's too bad. I like to support mom & pop establishments and eat at chains only if there isn't a good option. This is my first, and I hope only, negative review here on Yelp. -

Good food and price is decent. I recommend reservation for dinner or you may have to wait 10 mins or more, so if your in a rush to be seated..be patience. Be specific if you like your food a certain way or vegetarian. Their bread are the best with the butter garlic dip!!Good pizza selections too. Just double check your order when you pick it up, because they tend to forget utensils and/or you salad or soup or bread.

two things need to happen here- better location and better service.food just doesn't taste as good when a) you get slow service and b) you have to worry about your car getting stolen from the small parking lot. The pizza here is good but I've had better lasagna from a stouffers box. I'd rather go the Romanoes . And yeah....thye bread rolls are pretty good, but not good enough to rate more than 3 stars.

Everything you read about the good food is right. The make some of the best Veal Parmesian I've had in awhile. Everytime I leave there, I'm stuffed to the max. Their home made sauce kicks serious butt. When it's in their lasagna, it's a dream. The only reason why I give them a 4 instead of 5 stars is because every time I've gone there, the service-albeit friendly-is slow. If it's dinner hour, then I understand, but I've been there when not many customers were around, and they're a bit too slow. Friendly as heck though!

The best italian food i have ever had. This place puts bucca di peppo in shame. The portions here are huge and seriously if you order a meal to yourself you definitely will have leftovers. The prices are very cheap in my opinion considering you get so much food. To help you yelpers out here's a link to their coupon page which will even make your meal at Alfredo's even cheaper http://www.alfredospiz...
