I always love rooting for the hole in the wall places, because they are the one's that consistently surprise me for the better! Italian eateries certainly range from small and simple to large and eloquent; I find that somewhere in the middle is where you end up getting the most consistent and delicious food. I've had great dishes in the North End since i've been here, and I've had some mediocre ones. Frankly I go there now not on the sole hope of possibly getting a mouth-watering dish, but for the atmosphere and top-shelf booze. Frankly my best experiences with italian dishes have been in my own house or at home in general by family-run restaurants in a normal sized town. What i have yet to find up here, however, is a place that consistently serves good italian food not in a fancy setting (since i haven't gotten that anyways, i could just say good italian food)
Well I found Alfredo's; and i am very thankful i did! I was told of this place twice, once for the consistent pizza (have yet to try), and another for the pasta. Well one night I was not in the mood to cook my own pasta and was out of sauce anyways, so i took a chance and ordered chicken linguini alfredo with garlic bread for delivery. The food came relatively fast, and the bill was downright cheap! Great prices, good delivery...now all i needed was the food to taste good.
Go figure; it was indeed satisfactory. The dish wasn't the best i've ever had, but to be fair I have a love afar with the alfredo dish back in my home town. On its own merits, it was pretty darn good! Pasta was cooked perfectly, the chicken was delicious, and the sauce itself was just flavorful enough to be noticed and enjoyed. The Bread, om the bread....it must be a consistent thing here in Boston's italian community because it is godlike. I may just order the bread used for making garlic bread without any of the fixings, and still pay for it!
So i digress; i will be eating here again many times and hope the next dish is just as good or better than the last! 4.5 stars guys, you've earned it! -

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! But it seems as though they already have a huge fan base, so I don't feel too bad haha. My dad actually introduced me to this place. It's very easy to miss since it's so small and tucked away in the corner. Amazing Italian food for really cheap prices. I've been to fancy Italian restaurants and let me tell you, Alfredo's blows those schmucks out of the water!
Even though it's really small, I enjoy sitting down to eat here. Very comfortable and cozy. Plus I get to chat it up with the friendly owner! He's great.
This place has spoiled me rotten when it comes to Italian food. I can never look at it the same way. Other places just don't cut it anymore, haha. -

ALLSTON, MA
I love this place! My girlfriend and I were really hoping to find a place where we could sit and chat without all of the noise that normally comes with Italian Eateries. We decided to walk in and we were greeted by the nicest guy in Allston. I ordered the Gnocchi which was simply amazing, she had chicken Parmesan, we both loved it. It was made fresh for us, sauces made on the spot, you could feel the love in each bite. I love coming back even if its just for take out!

Im not sure it gets any better. North End Bread, Imported cold cuts, and an italian guy that doesnt mess around with his food. Did i mention the prices are great?
So my friend Alfredo feeds me, my brother, and my boys probably about 10-15 times per week. The man stays consistent with his sandwiches, pasta, salads everything.
Everyone needs to try my sandwich. Go to him and ask for the Jason special. Some prosciutto, fried chicken, fresh mozzarella, tomato, cooked spinach, pesto....ridiculous.
His steak and cheese sandwich embarrasses the competition and the chicken saltimbocca is simply orgasmic.
Keep up the good work brother. Ill probably see u later tonight, and tomorrow, etc.. -

This place is the real deal. Best pizza for miles. The owner is great and the pasta dishes are cooked to "al dente" perfection. Try the chicken saltimbocca, it is one of my favorites.
It's tiny and you know this place is authentic because of the RAI playing on the television in the corner. -

Tried the eggplant sandwich and it was not good. I threw more than half away and I was really hungry. The eggplant was slice way too thin, and fried in a grease that I doubt had been changed in a while, which made it really greasy and tasted like other fried things. The place is also dirty and you can see layers of grease that has accumulated on most things. Wanted to love it, but can not recommend it. sad...

Lately I went to Alfredo's again (okay fine, I've been about 100,000,000,000 + times...) and I tried some new stuff, and I was just thinking how in my first review, I didn't talk about what delicious dishes he has.
So here are some suggestions:
I think all his pastas are amazing, but my favorites are
-Chicken and brocolli in wine and garlic sauce
-carbonara
-bolognese
-sorrentina
and Chicken Marsala (it's under chicken dishes but it's pasta with chicekn mushroom in marsala sauce) It's my all time favorite. I came back from Italy a month ago, and this is the first thing I wanted to eat after arriving in Boston... :)
The guy also makes amazing sandwiches. Parma Prosciutto is a super delious and refreshing sandwich that always puts a big smile on my face. I tried his chicken parm while a friend tried a BLT, and oh my, he is taking regular american sandwiches to another level...SO GOOD!
He also has very good lobster ravioli, gnocchi, pizzas/calzones, and his antipasto della casa... simply perfect. I can eat the whole antipasto della casa with a whole plate of pasta, while Alfredo stands there and laugh at me for eating so much, because it's just so good. I believe he gives reasonable portion for the price he charge and I think the quality of the food shows serious effort from the chef.Listed in: Delicious Meal for $10 and…

I just finished one of the largest, most delicious, chicken cram packed Chicken Caesar sub I have possibly ever had. It was only $5! The chicken was fresh and moist, breaded, and thick. There was delicious tomatoes, lettuce, dressing, and all the rest.
I will order from here again most definitely. It will be hard to try something new but I will force myself! -

Alfredo's look like a worthless little shanty diner from the outside. You almost are afraid to spend your money there. However, those who can get past the exterior will find one of the cheapest and most delicious pasta joints they've ever been to.
I got the Penne Carbonara. Very well done, and it cost me less than ten dollars. In addition to this, it was done within 7 minutes of getting there. The old man behind the counter is a great guy, and really goes out of his way to make you comfortable if you are eating in, which I'd recommend so that you can get this food straight off the fryer.
Well deserving of 5 stars. -

This might be my new favorite take-out Italian place in the area. We got so much food - and good food at that - for so little money. And they delivered. Nice.
We got the pasta bolognese, the chicken saltimbuca (which came with pesto pasta, bread and a salad), and a side of eggplant parm - which isn't even on their menu. The man on the phone had a very thick accent, but he was super friendly and I think he was the same guy who brought the food right to the door. They were very fast...when they said 30 minutes, they meant 30 minutes - maybe even less. My total price for all this food: $25. NICE. I'm totally ordering from here again. -
Review from Jillian S.
Allston, MA
Maybe my hopes were too high from reading all the reviews here. Or maybe I ordered the wrong thing. But my "chicken cacciatora dinner" had about 5 or 6 little pieces of chicken in it. For $10 and change. Yes, it was very good, but I feel like I could have gotten way more delicious bang for my buck - and probably paid less - at Bottega Fiorentina. Oh, also, the "side of salad" was about 6 pieces of iceberg lettuce that didn't look very fresh, and the bread was tiny as well.
If I could, I'd give Alfredo's an extra half star for being so damn close to my house. I'm sure I'll return for that reason, or try delivery, which might prompt me to re-vamp this.
But for now, I had a good yet overpriced for what it was dinner. And I wish I'd gotten a cannoli.
p.s. - Yelp says they take cards, but the guy told me it was cash only. Maybe they changed their policy... -

Before I start yapping about the amazingness that is Alfredo's, I want to thank my fellow Yelpers for guiding me here. You guys are the best! Now lets get down to Alfredo's..
Oh. My. God. If I was a BU undergrad I'd be screaming 'Omg! omg! omg! Like totally, like y'know, like its like totally awesome!'. But I'm not. This little family owned Italian place is amazing! From the food to the people who own it and serve you - this place is authentic. Now when I think of some delicious authentic Italian food, I don't think of a $50-60 meal at a restaurant where I will only go if its serving a restaurant week menu. Yes, I know, I'm a cheapskate. But what I do think of, is a small diner hidden in a city; so small that they barely have a seating area. I can only think of the owner as Alfredo himself. The father is the one who does deliveries for them, while the son cooks your meals. I didn't quite see a Mrs. Alfredo last night, but I'm sure she's out there at another time. I'm digressing way too much, y'think?
Ok, so my friends and I decided to dine-in since we live a little far off and I was NOT going to let the T make me stand out in the cold for eternity while my food froze. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan sub, Chicken Carbonara sub and the Chicken Carbonara pasta. Wowiiiee! They all were so very delicious. The bread was crispy, not hard like some places. The subs are big enough to fill your stomach. Come to think of it, all their servings are pretty big. We are hungry little greedy pigs, so when we were done with the food we ordered Cannoli and a Tiramisu. There is a different taste to the Cannoli when served by a man with a heavy Italian accent. I don't know if its the accent that did it, but the desserts were both very tasty. Tiramisu can get ruined when its too sweet. Theirs is perfection for me.
Another good point - the prices! I paid for one sub, one pasta, one soda and the Tiramisu - $19. Beat that! We were so happy we left a generous tip, I'm sure you will too when you eat here. Although they accepts cards, the server was very happy when we said we had cash instead. So people - go try this place, get addicted and I'm hoping they'll never go out of business. Support family places!!!!! -

Alfredo's, Alfredo's... How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I had been longingly looking at Alfredo's, dreaming of a real Italian pie, for months now. Being that my roommate is vegan and boyfriend a fan of Asian, it was always Grasshopper down the street.
Finally, after a long hard day, we sit ourselves down in the cozy little joint and impatiently await the freshness of a classic margherita being prepared behind the counter by, who can only be assumed is, the man himself.
I was completely floored with pizza-love when that pie hit my eye. It was HUGE and perfect in every way.
I get the feeling that the woman helping out behind the counter is his wife, and the sweet old Italian man sitting next to us was his father. He asked as we left "You like the pizza?" in a thick Italian accent and I wondered why I'd ever need to go to the North End with this just around the corner. -

You could easily walk past this place a few times without seeing it. Alfredo's is a true hidden gem of Allston!
One of the few things I am proud of from my home state of New Jersey is our little hole in the wall Italian eateries that are the equivalent of eating food from your friend's parents' kitchen. Alfredo's achieves just that! The red sauce is so fresh and tangy and the pasta is cooked to perfection. The pizza is fantastic, if I close my eyes while eating it I would swear I am back in my old neighborhood pizza place where I had my 7th birthday party.
I first heard about Alfredo's through Yelp (thank you all who have Yelped before me!) and I was so glad I took everyone's advice! The portions are huge and you definitely get more than your moneys worth. I usually spend about $12 and have enough food for two with one entree and a side. Its also more of a take out or delivery kind of place, I think there may be two tables crammed inside. -

This is my first review, so I'm going to keep it short. I just recently moved to Brighton from Norwood and have been incredibly happy with the number of delivery places here in comparison (Norwood had like 3 places, and all of them were Pizza).
In any case, I *love* this place. I don't know why the last review said they don't deliver anymore - they've delivered to me consistently. The food is great, and you can tell it's not the mass-produced crap you find at Bertucci's.
When I order the same guy picks up every time - and I believe when asked he said he was Alfredo. I'm assuming he also cooks the food by the way he handled my requests.
He's open to making anything however you want it - as long as you can convey it to him that is. Communication is sometimes an issue with his heavy accent, but he's never come off as rude as a result or anything.
The delivery is the fastest I've experienced in Boston hands down. I place an order and it's at my door around 10-15 minutes later.
A+. I've ordered from them about 3-4 times since discovering them last week. -

I just finished a delivery meal from Alfredo's, and I'm still filled with the warm glow of really REALLY good bread and chicken. If you like chicken parm subs, you pretty much have to love this place. I'm a fan of their salads, and their pasta trades in the usual massive portions for delicacy and quality... but still plenty to eat.
As I mentioned, I'd get any of their subs, and their Amatriciana pasta with linguini will wake you right up. Their pizza, like their bread, is just the perfect mix of crunchy outer crusts and soft (yet flavorful) centers. The cheese is fresh, whatever the type (although the fresh mozzarella is SO good), and the mild sauce lets you enjoy a flavor profile that is mellower than the salt-sugar bombs you get from *insert chain pizza joint name here*.
That might be the ONE issue people have with Alfredo's however. They are going for a classic Italian flavor profile, which means the garlic isn't just smooshed on everything (although you're depriving yourself if you don't try their garlic bread and bruschetta). Some people are going to feel the sauce is on the bland side, but try a few bites to get your palette adjusted and you start to get the fresh plum tomatoes, and the taste of REAL fresh baked goods, and cheese.
By the way, their cannoli, while tiny for their price, are delectable. They clearly whip honey into the ricotta, and instead of a thick oily crust, the shell is fresh and light. If you're a college student looking to get 2 meals from 1 sub... this is not the place for you. I've been in that situation, and other places have a better value per volume. That said, I dare you to find a better value for flavours unless it's homemade. -

This is one of those "neighborhood" secrets. I lived in allston for 2 years and brighton for 1 year and none of my friends know of this place.
Quick story: I was getting my car serviced at lunch time at Boston Volvo. I was told it would take an hour to fix my car... normally I'd be upset because I don't want to wait in a car showroom lobby for an hour (I want the loaner car, dammit!)... but I was excited as this presented to me an opportunity to go to alfredo's and have a nice lunch. Happiest I've been at lunch time in a while :)
anyway, the food is amazing. all the reviews are right. when I used to go regularly, like 3 years ago, I used to get the lobster ravioli for 10 bucks. Some of the best I've ever had... and I am generally not a ravioli fan. I used to get hungry just thinking about it.
Alfredo himself (is that his name?) makes a really mean chicken cacciatore sub (i didn't know such things existed!). Definitely worth the visit... but unless you are going for a quick lunch, do take out! -
Review from Lisa O.
There's not really anything about Alfredo's that hasn't already been said, so I'll just reiterate some key points:
- The food is seriously the best "red-sauce Italian" I have ever had. Seriously. Get the gnocchi and you can die a happy person.
- I've only gotten delivery, but they get to my apartment inside 30 minutes with food so piping hot that I can't even eat it for the next 10. YUM.
- Service is super-friendly. I pretty much always have to give directions to my apartment cause it's confusing, but the guy on the phone apologizes profusely for not understanding immediately.
- The little old(er) man who delivers is adorable and nice and always get a big tip.
- CHEAP. Enough said.
Alfredo's is dangerous, cause seriously, I could eat that gnocchi every single night. Seriously. -
Review from Jamie F.
Chicken broccoli penne in alfredo sauce ... $9.50
Gnocchi with crab meat sauce ... $8.95
Tiramisu ... $3.65
Happiness from a delicious and filling authentic Italian meal for 2 outside of the North End ... priceless :)
Thanks, Alfredo! -

I love Alfredos. It's a 1 minute walk and it is honestly the best Italian take out food I've had in Allston if you're not counting Carlos.
Alfredo & I go way back now, he pretty much sasses every time I go there since 90% of the time I order a side of meatballs with the chicken parm dinner or the chicken ceaser salad, which are my favorites.
That said, I've tried a bit of everything else at some point to the other pasta dishes, sandwiches, calzones & pizza.
The pizza there is really friggin good and flies under the radar around these parts. I'd never really be tempted to get delivery since it's basically Alfredo and his driver with the small blue car and newsie hat. It's an ideal pick up location though. Can't recommend it enough. Pricing is fair and the portions are good. The sauces are pretty tough to beat.
One word of advice is not to think about using a credit/debit card unless you're dropping $25 or $30. Alfredo hates cards. He hates them to the extent that he will let you walk out without paying and just put your name on this list. Happened to me once, and I defiantly wanted to go back.

This place has very, very good pizza. The kind of stuff that I've been looking for for a while now. The crust is not too thin but not too thick, and the bread/cheese/sauce ratio is just right. It even has the telltale visual sign of a good pizza: big air bubbles, which means they don't put oil in the dough just to make it easier to handle.
Plus, I like the guy behind the counter. He's cool. -

I think it's really more like 3.75 stars, but we'll round up. Alfredo was very nice. My friend and I got a pizza and garlic bread. We felt that the crust and the sauce were quite good, as was ricotta as an extra topping. We felt like the over all cheese was so-so, and we definitely wanted more mushrooms.
The garlic bread was really good though, and I'm glad someone mentioned it in their review cuz otherwise i wouldn't have known to ask for it.
Overall, it was solid, but it didn't blow me away like I was hoping. I'll definitely go back to try some of their pasta dishes though. -

Guys. This place is super cheap for what you get. While your pasta may be a bit overcooked, who CARES for a huge plate for $10? I was a bit surprised to find my pesto sauce was a cream pesto rather than an oil, but that's okay - it was still yummy.
The place is tiny with only a few tables - but it's still a great experience. You get bread and oil, the staple of any respectable Italian restaurant. And Orangina. Anyplace that offers Orangina automatically gets a thumbs up.
Also, naysayers, they appear to be delivering again. So, check that out. It's no North End - it's not touristy and it's a whole lot cheaper. Sound good to anyone else? -

I have to thank all the YELPers for helping me find this place. I was going through a Italian/pizza craving a few months back and used Yelp as a resource to finding some new places to try. This is one of my fav places to go to when I'm craving Italian - the lobster ravioli is super-tasty thanks to the rich creamy tomato-based sauce it's covered in.
The place is pretty small. I usually come with one other friend and I feel like the two of us fill the place up. And we aren't morbidly obese or anything. It's just super-tiny. I suppose you could fit a cozy group of 4-6 in there.
Oh, my only warning is that it is Closed on Sundays! -

Realizing that I was about to have 8 New Yorkers here for the weekend I decided to test run a new pizza place. The reviews for Alfredo's looked good, so I ordered a sausage pizza for delivery. The pictures posted by others looked so good I couldn't wait. Unfortunately, I had to-about 1/2 hr longer than I was told. Just as I was about to call, Alfredo (I think) knocked on the door.
My total was $12.31. I handed him a $20.31-and he tried to walk away! I promptly stopped him and told him I needed change. He looked disappointed. Sorry, no $8 tip for you buddy! I tipped appropriately and excitedly opened the box....to find a smooshed, underdone disgusting mess. It looked like he tipped the box over and sideways-cheese was everywhere but on the pizza. Luckily (?) there were 2 slices with toppings still on them, so I ate those.
The crust was chewy, but not in a good way. The sausage tasted milky-I know that sounds weird-it was. Overall, disgusting and if he wasn't already gone (and it wasn't a busy Friday) I would have made him take it back.
Obviously, I won't be ordering from Alfredo's anymore. -

Great Pizza, Great deal- enough said.
Cheese pizza comes with fresh basil and a few pieces of fresh mozzarella. The sauce is great. Definitely the best pizza in the area.
it's also like $11 for a large/16" cheese.

I go to Alfredo's about two times a week, and it's never a disappointment, which is why those last two lousy reviews angered me enough to make this yelp account and tell you guys that they could be nothing farther from the truth. Of course it's not a North End restaurant, it's located on the complete other side of Boston. But living in a world where franchises rule the food industry, this little corner restaurant is the perfect get-a-way from the norm. Yes it's not the biggest place or the best looking, but these are real-life people living the American dream that everyone is so desperately trying to achieve.
Nevertheless, the food's phenomenal. From the fresh pizza to the DELICIOUS shrimp salt-in-boca, this man can do it all. And when I say that, I mean ALL. This is a one man show people. There's no team of chefs in the background preparing your food, or dishwashers and cleaners hiding downstairs. It's just Alfredo and the kitchen. So before you go judging one man's dream, give this spot a chance. Try the pasta al a vodka because it will completely knock your socks off. Or maybe the super parma prosciutto. Match it up with an Orangina and tiramisu for dessert, and you're golden.
So check this place out, and help out the economy by supporting small businesses because that's what this country is built upon!
PS. The man's a character. You wanna get on his good side? Talk about any sport -

It is okay for a pizza place around this area, but fails to compare to some of the better ones I have been to.
The Mediterranean pizza did not come with fresh basil or really a good amount of mozzarella which was disappointing given the price. It was essentially a cheese pizza with tomatoes on it. The pizza was standard with no flavor, even in the toppings and the ravioli was very dry ( Tasted frozen and reheated ).
Reasonably priced, its okay for a snack but don't wonders. -

First you call and order with the wonderful man who is always there and always answers the phone. I love how the same two guys are always there and friendly.
Then you hang up and it seems as though the food has magically appeared at your door. It only took about 20 minutes for delivery-- which is a rare quality in Allston delivery.
Then you open your bag and inside you find large servings of delicious pasta and italian yummys. I usually get a chicken cutlet dinner. The chicken is always really thick and juicy with a nice breading. Most places serve really thin pieces of chicken. I like my chicken to have some girth. Alfredo gives me this.
The salad dressing that comes with the salad is AMAZING. It is a great creamy Italian dressing. I want to buy a bottle of it. The slices of bread are a bit small, but all the pasta and salad make up for that!
Finally, all is well after I finish a delicious Alfredo's dinner. I am now hungry just thinking about it. -

i headed to alfredo's prepared to dine-in and have a delicious italian food but when i got there i was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem hidden in allston was not really dine-in friendly as it is tiny...
in any event, we ordered our food from alfredo himself and he whipped us up a quick, fresh and amazingly tasty meal. my friend an i were astonished in the time in which our food was prepared...and from scratch. i mean, i saw him crack the damn egg to make some alfredo, doesn't get any fresher than that!
the spinach ravioli was awesome and my friend had the chicken and broccoli alfredo with penne and she raved about it. we also had a caesar and caprese salad (my fav) which was amazing and very fresh...with homemade garlic croutons.
alfredo, you rock my world and next time i will definitely be having it delivered. -

Ah, Alfredo's. Last fall I ordered the tortellini pesto 3 times a week. Divine. So are the spinach raviolis. This is one of those spots that is deceiving from the outside - you would not guess how amazing and authentic the food is. The pizza is the best I have had in Allston, and rivals that of Regina's in the North End and Woody's in Fenway. You can get a classic margherita pizza made right, good thin crust. And a very sweet older Italian man (who might be the chef's father) is the delivery guy, who brings you a bag of deliciousness and a kind smile.

I love cute decorations and a hip atmosphere as much as any 20-something girl, but after this place I am going to be more conscientious of not passing up places based purely on aesthetics.
Alfredo's definitely has not focused on making their place hip and bumpin...it's actually slightly drab...
BUT WHO CARES when you try their food!
And when you meet Alfredo, who by the way loves football and can talk to you all day about it.
How great is he?
He makes you great food and then talks to you about sports...
This place is so adorable.
In retrospect I feel like such a grand ass for dismissing my boyfriend the first time when he said we should check this place out.
I'm glad I eventually agreed to getting a pizza here because their mixed veggie pizza is so good.
They carry Orangina too!
So here is the lesson kids:
Don't review a place based on how it looks. As long as it looks clean and bugless... who gives a damn about whether or not they use paper plates or bought their plates from Ikea????
Pretty decorations are a plus; a restaurant should not be judged based on it's lack of eye candy for you. The only thing that should matter is the quality of food that they present to their customers and that the level of respect that the chefs/owners have for their own craft can be found in their final products. -

Huge chicken parm for $5. I was full after I ate half, but I finished it 'cause it was sooo good.

i was excited to order from here cuz of all the great reviews, but i honestly wasn't blown away by this place. i think maybe i'd give it 5 stars for value, but not for food quality alone.
the food was good, but didn't stand out at all. mediocre sauce, mediocre chicken, and mediocre pasta. it came with a side salad and bread for $10 which is pretty awesome, and it showed up about 20min after we ordered which is also awesome, so i might give it another shot, but i don't understand what everyone's raving about.
of course it doesn't help that i'd just recently been to carlo's, but i feel like i'm comparing apples to apples here and if carlo's is 5 stars, alfredo's is definitely not more than 3. -

I also love the Lobster Ravioli and everything has that authentic homemade Italian flavor. The sandwich's and salads are perfect for lunch and the prices are a bargain. On the scale of small sub style shops Alfredo's gets a 5.
