Review from Jonathan E.

Because of the first review on here, we went to Alfie's specifically for the prime rib sammie...
And all descriptions apply! That was one seriously good au jus, and the meat itself was a quality: not fatty, light marble, tender, and of course rare. Admittedly I am a beef lover, and since its not a staple of my diet every time I eat a good piece its a treat.
That said, the rest of the sandwich was probably not deserving of the 4-star accolade. The garlic toast was good, crusty but just above average. The pickle and piece of lettuce alongside were laughable, would it kill to at least toss a couple of baby greens alongside? Especially at $12.95 per???
We also had the sweet potato fries, which struggled to reach average. However I keep coming back to the prime rib, and it was simply excellent. If I go back I won't risk Alfie a star and just stick with meat. Mmmm....
You don't make friends with salad, after all.Listed in: In New Yoooork

A pretty nice place overall. Portions where a little smaller than expected for the price, but still quite reasonable. I ordered the chicken parmigiana which came with a very small side of noodles. Atmosphere is nice and everything was clean. Waitresses were a little absent minded. Oddly their were no plates on the table when they brought out the bread so you pretty much had to use your napkin or set it on the table. Still the food as pretty good.

Every beach or lake town has one... the tacky tiki motif restaurant. Alfie's is this for Jamestown, New York.
Decor is comprised red vinyl chairs and booths, actual grass on the fake grass-hut topper for the bar, waitresses ranging from college kids home for the summer to middle aged single-mom look-a-likes in tacky Hawaiian shirts... a little top-pop mood music by Gwen Stefani and Fergie make the picture complete.
They say "pop" instead of "soda" at Alfie's... a sure sign you're in the Midwest. I had Dr. Pepper. Such a guilty pleasure - I am SO a Pepper, too.
The menu has all kinds of local fish (walleye and perch) and steak and good Midwestern fare... I ordered the open-faced Prime Rib sandwich (rare, of course) with some fries, expecting a typical steak sandwich. When the Hawaiian shirt-clad co-ed plopped half a bloody cow on a garlicy roll down in front of me and my eyes grew wide with delight... mmmm... rare prime rib! And, it was served au jus... mmmm... !! It shouldn't surprise anyone to hear that I ate every last bite. (I would have drank the au jus, too, if it wouldn't have caused people to look at me funny.)
My Mommaship had some bodacious looking Nachos. I had a bite, they were loaded with cheesy goodness... mmmm... cheese!
As much as I try to be the cosmopolitan city girl, I have to admit: I am from these here middle states and there's few things I like more in life than beef and cheese. Alfie's has both. Thumbs up from me. -

I concur with the previous yelper.
Kind of a weird atmosphere (as in I feel like I need to have feathered bangs or jeans with stirrups to dine here). And the red vinyl gets me every time, not to mention the waitresses who look like the first thing they reach for when they wake up in the morning is a cigarette. You could get anything off the menu and not worry if you'll like it because it's all good.
Chicken fingers? Burgers? Salads? Chili? Soup? It's all perfectly satisfying. It's almost like diner food with a hometown je ne sais quoi. Loves it all. -

FOOD: The food here was good. I had a French Dip and my partner had the scallop dinner. The dip for my sandwich was a bit too salty and the sandwich wasn't bad. My partner said the scallops were overcooked and the flavor was ok. I tried one of the scallops and agree. Overall the food isn't bad, but isn't anything special either.
SERVICE: The hostess was friendly and brought us to a table in a good timely manner. The service for the rest of the night was a tad slow. Not bad for a nice slow dinner, but not great if you gotta be somewhere shortly.
CLEANLINESS: The placed is pretty clean. Not sure of the restrooms since I didn't use them.
ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere of the place is very unique and different. When you walk in it feels like a classic old style restaurant. As we were brought to our table we passed by several dining rooms. The place is broken up into many smaller dining rooms. We were first seated in a booth near the bar, but we requested another seat since the table was over a speaker and there was sun shining in my partners eyes. The seating in their booths is small and has very little leg room. I kept hitting the left of the table or bumping up against my partners shoes. The seating and look of the dining area that we were in had Hawaiian wallpaper and the non-booth tables had unique red leather office chairs with wheels. Near the bar area they had blue back lighting behind a wood jigsaw stencil in the ceiling. The lighting over our table was a stain glass lamp shade. Definitely a unique place and makes you feel like you walked into a previous time period (Not that, that's bad or anything).
OTHER NOTES: They take Mastercard, Visa, and AMEX. -

For Jamestown, this place is actually pretty good. I have been to many places in this town - some good, some bad, and some I still have nightmares about. I've only been there once so far, but my first trip was delightful. I tried their quesadilla special and was thoroughly impressed. I'm used to authentic Mexican food, so I didn't expect much, but enjoyed the fajita flavor they added. Definitely a place to hit if you are in town!
