Are you a fan of Sherry? Tonight I opened a bottle of Sherry I bought from them a couple months ago. I had forgotten how good it is. Seriously, the smoothest Sherry I have ever tasted!

They will be on my next tour de Temecula, for sure!

This winery not only was an unwelcoming experience d/t the owner being rude to me and all of my group, but I want to amend my previous post.

I did not give this winery a good review, but this is YELP and I posted based on my experience, which is my opinion - one of many. After I posted,  I received a caustic message from one of the staff accusing me of being from another winery, which I am not.

Take this into account before venturing here....it is WAY more than you would bargain for. Life's too short to spend any of your time here.

I've been visiting the Temecula wineries for several years now, but just recently stopped by Alex's Red Barn.  We prefer the smaller wineries; they're usually the hidden treasures.  Unfortunately, we left the winery with a horrible taste in our mouth and I'm not talking about the wine.  We went with some friends who have proudly served in the Military for more than ten years.  They asked the woman if they gave military discounts, as many of the wineries do in the valley, and I was appalled by her response.  She basically said what has the military done for me.  Seriously???  This winery needs to take a course in customer relations.  I do not recommend this place.

Alex's is by far our favorite winery in Temecula.  We are wine club members here so we visit at least once every other month for our wine pick up.  Lise and Alex are wonderful and make superior wines.  Every single wine is great, and now they make liquor too.  The barn is small and Lise gives you personal attention and explains everything to you and she is very friendly.  If you are wine tasting on a Saturday or Sunday this is a must visit!

Wines here are bit on the pricer end compared to some of the wineries. However, everything on the tasting menu was pretty good. The lady (owner? Alex's wife?) gave us great explanations of each wine.

I liked all of them. The Riesling was particularly notable to me, because I usually find Rieslings too sweet. This one was nice because it was light, crisp, did not have a syrupy texture, and had just the right amount of sweetness.

They have a friendly and adorable cat hanging out at the red barn during tastings.

If you could only visit one winery in Temecula, I'd have to say, go to this one. This is a very small, 'boutique' style winery. All their wines are estate wines which is really rare these days. However, once you have a taste, you'll understand the difference.

If not for yelp we would never have gone to this winery, let alone, have found it. It's off a small road hidden from the main drag that is Rancho California, where all the other wineries are located.

When we got to Red Barn, we were the only ones there and it was situated -- you guessed it -- in a barn. I loved the simple atmosphere of this place. The lady owner was very sweet. There were 6 wines to taste and like other wineries, it cost $10, however, they give you their souvenir glass for that price.

I would say, the wines here are of extremely high quality and can give the more renown wineries a run for their money. The Cabernet Sauvignon was fantastic. It was so good we even bought some.

The lovely lady then called out to whom I can only assume is her husband and said "Alex, donnez un poire pour le petit garcon". I then said "oh! Merci!!". Her husband brought out a pear for the young man. They have Asian pear and quince trees on the premises and these organic home grown pears are the sweetest I've ever tried. I thought it was such a lovely gesture -- she didn't have to do that.

This is the sort of hospitality I expect from people in the wine country. Residents of Napa, Sonoma, all have this sort of warmth to them. I'm guessing that the nasty lady at Churon must be the exception because after her, all we had were pleasant, happy, upbeat folks who we encountered throughout our winery hops out there.

I returned a couple years later on July 3rd 2010, and was pleased to find that not only was everything the same, but the wines were just as good, if not better than last time I went.

I like this place especially because it is not filled with air-headed cougars who arrive by the limo-load just to get drunk on anything sweet and fruity. This is because it is small, humble, and real.

My only complaint is the charge for the tasting. $10 is fine, but I appreciate the gratitude implied by the winery owner when it is waved after bottles are purchased. That is always a classy touch in my opinion. *hint* *hint*

Wine tasting in Temecula is quaint and charming. You get more personalized attention than you get in Sonoma or Napa up North.  Drive a little more than an hour up north from San Diego, and you're there.  Alex and his wife both run the place and they are the sweetest, cutest old German couple.  Alex's wife introduced all the wine with tender graciousness that gave this small mom-and-pop winery a real sense of splendor.

I don't pretend to be a wine connoiseur, but I heard great things about Alex's and the wine was indeed spectacular.

Alex's Red Barn is off the beaten path.  To find it, you have to drive off the main road -- follow the signs...it's right across from Longshadow Winery.

Tastings for a flight of four go for $7.  Standouts were the syrah and the riesling, although I loved everything.

Truly a down-to-earth & simple sun light based interior lighting for this winery. So thus they can't open late.  My bf & I did the wine sampling (includes their glasses) for 4 samples for $7. Several of their wines did win awards. The wines were quite flavorful, we ended up purchasing their Voignier & Cab. Bottles cost $25.
The wife was very educational with wine tasting & pleasant to talk to. Her & her husband appear to own this place more as a hobby then business, since they only wish to do it on a small production level. Will definitely return there again when ever in the mood for more fresh wines.

    Woohooo!

I loved this place. First the woman serving us (who is Alex's wife) was so friendly and really seemed interested in our opinions of the wine. She explained each wine before we tasted it and really described how to properly taste it to get the full experience of it. Swirling the cup, smelling it and letting it sit in your mouth for a moment. She was also concerned with each taster, making sure they did not wolf it down but sip it and enjoy every moment of it.

I fell in love with their white and red cabernet sauvignon. I also just adored their cream sherry! (I tasted about 4 different cream sherries while wine tasting that day but this one stood out to me. It tasted like caramel!)

So with that said, you have GOT to go to this little place. They do wine tasting fri-sat-sun and it is a must. I will definitely be back. The experience and the wine together are just heavenly.

Wow!  Alex's is as cozy and inviting as they come.  Alex's wife took us through a beautifly prearranged tasting complete with the story of each wine and taught each taster how to enjoy the wine she was presenting.  I loved this place and everyone that was with me agreed it was the highlight of the day.  We each couldn't resist buying a couple of bottles given the excellent service and quality of the wine.   If a quaint, educational and very personal tasting is what you desire, you will love this place!  We would recommend Alex's100 times over.  We will be back.

This is certainly a no-nonsense place, barn door open, porta-potty in the back, plastic chairs and a friendly cat of black and white persuasion.  The viognier was truly the best in the whole valley. The cream sherry is very European style, yummie if you appreciate that kind of liquid dessert. I think I will come back to get the Viognier for those guests of ours who prefer white.

Definitely my least favorite of the day.  You didn't get a choice in the wine that you wanted (there is a preset 6 that you get) and I wasn't overwhelmed by them at all.

Alex's Red Barn is a small winery that makes some great wines.  I recently served their 2006 Viognier which was a big hit.  Their whites are clean and not massaged like a lot of California whites.  If you go make sure you taste their cream sherry, it's like liquid candy.

Pretty disappointing with this place. Normally we love cute out of the way places, but this one left a sour taste. First the wine is just okay. I do have to say the Riesling is outstanding and I don't normally enjoy whites.  Our biggest gripe is that the woman serving us was very short with us. It was apparent to both me and my girlfriend even though we didn't say anything about it until we left. The woman was very friendly and gracious to other people there to taste, but when it came to us she was very curt even though we were trying to be very friendly. We think it because we said we were only there to taste and not interested in purchasing any bottles. No matter what it was, there are way better places to stop and have a taste. (Monte del Oro was great)

Great wine at this place, the reds especially; worth the around $30/bottle you might expect, and they have a charming location, and the proprietess is friendly.  The last time we came here (the 2nd time), it was empty and she gave us a lot of attention and it was one of our first stops, so everything was great.  The first time we came here, we hit the place up in a group of 5, and we'd been to maybe 5 other places.  But, most of us were fine and not intoxicated.  However, she took a look at our group and my original impression was that she wasn't the friendliest.  Now I'm thinking that maybe one of our group gave her pause; no one was too bad off in my opinion, but you never know what you may appear like to a server.  Considering the amount of folks who tend to overdo out here, I can understand this more now.  We took our tastings to the outside sitting area and chilled.  We enjoyed the wine.  I will say that I enjoyed the wine and the experience much more when I came back here just with one friend, the second time, and had much more focus on the wine, and had time to really appeciate it.  The reds here are especially wonderful.
