Alex: Thank you for saving me from a week's worth of domestic duties!
I had a friend visit the week after Christmas who is METICULOUS about his clothing being ironed and wrinkle free. When he arrived, he announced that he had a week's worth of ironing that he waited to do until arrival to ensure everything would be wrinkle free. Seeing as how I haven't ironed clothing since college, let alone own an iron, I knew this was going to be a challenge.
A few days later during lunch, I was reminded by my friend that we had dinner reservations at 7pm that night and the shirt he was going to wear, as well as the rest of the week's evening attire, required ironing. Rushing back to the house, I told him to throw the shirts in my car and I'd take care of it (My options included running to Target in Novato and buying an iron or finding a friend who I could pawn the ironing off on). When I got back to work, I mentioned the situation to my co-worker who suggested I run to a cleaners and have them press the shirts. Simple as pie, I wondered why I didn't think of that.
3pm and 7 dry cleaners later, I came to realize it was easier said than done. Every place I went to said it had to be in by the morning to get same day service or they had just turned off their press. One place I went to gave me a phone book and said I could call around to see if anyone would take it that late. He suggested I call Alex's on Lindaro. I called them and they said no problem, bring it in.
When I arrived, the lady was very friendly and even said that it would be ready for pick up by 4:30pm. Thoroughly impressed, I dropped of my load and ran back to work.
5pm we went to pick up the shirts and the final charges reeked of "procrastinator's fee and last minute charges", however, we were so relieved there was a place that took care of it on such short notice, we would've paid double and would gladly return. -

I had a LivingSocial deal for Alex's: $80 of dry cleaning for $40. If you're anything like me (or resembling a human being), you cram your dry cleaning into the bottom of your hamper for a rainy day project. Let's face it - dry cleaning is a luxury and just one more thing to do in a short day.
I created a user profile on Alex's website, reviewed the price list and then made my hamper selections based on the voucher value. I'd figure out the whole scheduling thing another time. Well, I didn't have to! They called me the very next day and we scheduled a time for their service to pick up. They gave me a 4 hour window at my convenience and the gal was very pleasant. Sure enough, their driver, Carlos, arrived within the timeframe... with a welcome gift! It was a nice white box tied up with a blue ribbon. I gave him my paper bag of clothes (3 silk blouses, a pair of linen/wool blend suit slacks and my ever favorite white down vest) and off he went. Seemed like a nice enough man.
I sat down on my living room floor like it was Christmas Part 2 and carefully opened my welcome gift. Inside was a durable, branded garment bag with my name tag on it, stickynotes, collar points, a garment hook, spot markers (to point out stains for the dry cleaner), etc. It was really useful - I love pragmatic gifts.
Around 4 pm, Carlos returned and just as pleasantly as before, handed me my freshly cleaned items. They look great!
My impression is that their prices are slightly higher than other places, but Alex's valets and provides same day service. It's worth it! I also found their customer service to be spot-on (heh). They hooked me, so this is an example of a LivingSocial gone right! -

my customer experience with alex the owner, unfortunately turns out to be quite degrading. when i went to pick up my duvet cover (ikea brand $30), i was in shock to hear the bill was $65. i have never paid such outrageous prices for a simple cover. alex arrogantly proceeded to tell me how this was not a communist country & i had free choice. really? he berated me for not being "able to afford" his services, which was not my issue, purely his arrogant, sexist assumption. $65 for a simple duvet cover is just absolutely outrageous. i can not support such an arrogant attitude towards anyone. no, there are way better dry cleaners out there who do not give such a display of self-rightousness & attitude. me thinks NOT.

The dry cleaning here was SO expensive, yet they did a very good job. I paid almost $400 for my wedding dress to be cleaned.
My major complaint and reason for 3 stars is bc of Carlos their driver. He was exceptionally rude. They did not call to remind me they were dropping the dress off (2 weeks after they picked it up). So, when Carlos arrived he scolded me like a child for missing his original trip over. This was after he reprimanded me on the phone earlier that morning. You guys need to rethink your customer service!
I appreciated the valet service, but would never recommend them because of Carlos' rudeness. -

The best cleaners in Marin.
I have been using them for about five years, for dry cleaning and alterations. They are always friendly, and when needed will do a rush order on dry cleaning or alterations. It looks like they do everything in-house, so no sending your clothes somewhere else. -

This business is "open" at 6 AM? 7 AM?
Had a suit checked in for regular dry-clean, I had a flight leaving to LA today, 8:30 AM. I specifically said, I wanted to pick up the suit at 6 AM the day of the flight.
Sure enough I get there and what happened? They weren't opened.
Why would you advertise you're open if you ARENT open at that time?
It's beyond me.
Methinks not.
Not only are they absurdly expensive, there are better ones in San Francisco that are cheaper. HECK, the Cleaners by SOL FOOD in San Rafael are better, since they are family owned, and they actually care because they are a small business. CHEAPER also.
People here do not dry-cleaning their clothes as often as I do, because if they did, they will clearly know that they are over-priced and there are BETTER ones out there. -

Alex's work is top quality and I trust them with my best clothes, leather garments, upholstered furniture and fine rugs. They are expensive, but worth it for fine items. The drivers are friendly and professional. Alex and his wife, Roxanne, and the drivers are like family, only better. The service is top notch, professional and very efficient.

I have been using Alex's for a few years now. They always come quickly with a friendly hello and a smile on the driver's face and come back within a day with my finished dry cleaning. I have nothing to complain about. The price is a smidge high but well worth it for the convenience, quality and service they give.

THE DELIVERY FOLKS TAKE OFF THEIR PANTS AND GO TO THE BATHROOM IN YOUR BACKYARD - AND ALEX THINKS THIS IS ACCEPTABLE - if you want your family exposed to this sort of unacceptable behaviour - use Alex's - I will never use them again!

Alex's provides excellent cleaning and alterations ...however they are VERY expensive! They charge the same price for bedding regardless of size which is very disconcerting. I had my daughter's twin size comforter cover cleaned and they charged me the same as a queen size which is absolutely outrageous. When I called they said size doesn't matter - it's one cost. They are also obsessed with designer clothes and charge more if a garment is designer since they say they require extra care..in some cases that is true, but not so much in men's shirts. Save this for your special garments..

Alex started his business in San Anselmo in 1983, and my family has been with him from the start. His has been the only cleaning establishment we've ever used since we started-- there simply hasn't been any reason to even think of trying another vendor. His concern over his customers' needs and requests is simply beyond belief. And in 26 years, he's never lost a single item we sent him for cleaning or repair, which beggars belief. No one could better. Period.
