we want to eat alex's catering everyday!!!!!
we had them cater our wedding - the hors d' oeuvres were AMAZINGGGG (tuna poke cones, grilled cheese & tomato bisque shooter and pork belly crisps) . we totally appreciated how the servers made sure to come find us and bring the hors d'oeuvres while we were out doing photos...we got fried chicken and the braised short ribs for the main course and the first thing everyone told us the next day was how incredible the food was! we would absolutely recommend alex's!!!!!! -

We loved this family-owned catering operation in Napa. We went to a few tastings and the food topped the rest. The service from Sammy up to the wedding was laid back and personal (which we greatly appreciate). Their team did a wonderful job (and the food was just as tasty as at the tasting!) on the night of the event and even sent us home with a picnic bag full of goodies. The service on-site was excellent too. Thank you!

I cannot say enough good things about Alex's! They catered my wedding in Calistoga in April. I worked with Amy and she was fantastic! After doing tastings at many wine country caterers, the food at Alex's was by far better than the rest. Plus, the price was great! At the wedding, the food was just amazing! I had many guests tell me it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. That is important, as the food is always something people remember well. We did a family style dinner (another thing people raved about and I would recommend). We had 4 appetizers (duck confit, asparagus straws, ahi tuna cones, and risotto balls), and then grilled veggies, salad, chard ravioli, tuscan chicken w/ cassoulet and hangar steak for the main courses. More than enough food for our guests, and more than enough variety for picky eaters. All the servers were professional, yet very personable as well. Brides, if you want to feel secure and comfortable with your caterer, knowing you will get great food and that they've got your best interests and wishes in mind on the big day, go for Alex's!

I contacted Amy via email earlier this year to inquire about the price of their services. Amy let me know it would be hard to find a menu to meet my price point. But went out of her way to search for an alternative to meet my budget! She forwarded me info for another vendor in my price range and wished me the best of luck! I couldn't have recieved a higher level customer service! and I will refer anyone looking for a caterer to Alex's Catering!
Thanks again Amy! -

So I have a caterer! Me. I can truly say this is a new experience.
Tom has been very patient with us as we go through the process of planning our event. Color choices, timing, room set-up: he knows his stuff and how to accommodate his clients, while presenting with style.
The tasting was quite good, and they are going out of their way to make sure each offering is perfect. Don listened to our critique of each dish, and has made changes to recipes to meet our specific tastes.
So far, so good. Will update in late July! -

Tom at Alex's catering is a great person to work with! tho i only met him once(when we went for tasting) but he communicate effectively with my wedding planner (Jackie Jones Wilson, whom I also highly recommend). On my wedding day the food came out beautifully and all of my guest enjoyed the food and some even say it is the best wedding dinner ever! Overall very good experience with Alex's. Tom is knowledgeable and works with you on the menu to fit your guests!

We used Alex's for our wedding on Aug 14, 2011 at Cornerstone in Sonoma and overall had a great experience with them. Highly recommend them for a wedding. They are wedding pros!
I was choosing between Elaine Bell and Alex's.. unfortunately I was planning the wedding from Sydney so couldn't do the tasting myself. My two great friends with very refined palates did the tasting for me and based on their reviews and recommendation, I went with Alex's.
Alex's was very helpful in helping me decide on the menu and gave suggestions. I wanted a country BBQ theme. My menu ended up being: salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, mac and cheese, tri tip, mashed potatoes, jalapeno corn bread (yum yum yum) and FRIED CHICKEN YUM! Everyone raved about the fried chicken and it was a huge hit!
I initially worked with Tom who was amazing and great in terms of response. I was then handed off to Amy who was also wonderful!
Here were some observations:
- Food was amazing. Your event will be great. Everyone kept on coming up to me to tell me how amazing the fried chicken was!
- Pre-sales email response time was faster than post-sales (after contract signature). Catering costs tend to be one of the highest in wedding budgets so sales/email response should be prompt.
- Small, TINY details didn't happen as planned. Not a big deal. I gave them sugar lime to put on the rim of the mojito glasses but that didn't make it onto the glasses.
- Final bill was about 17% more than original estimate. This was not some shady exercise on their part. I added details along the way (change of rentals, etc) that increased the price. My advice, after you obtain the estimate do not make major changes and if you do - always ask first, will this answer increase my costs? I didn't do that as much as I should have. For example, a question like "what kind of bar table do you want?" can mean the difference between $20 and $100.
- During the night, it was amazing bc it was as if the caterers weren't even there! It was seamless! I would turn around and all of a sudden a carnitas taco was in my hand! My husband really appreciated not
having to worry about the food.
Here are some photos from the day. You can see welcome drinks provided by Alex's and the passed canapes during the cocktail hour http://jwshootsyou.blo... -

Alex's is AMAZING! One of the most important things for me at my wedding was having great food. From the minute I did the tasting with Alex's I was sold. Their food is DELICOUS!!!
We worked with Tom who is a wonderful person. He is nice, prompt and does whatever you would like done for your wedding.
The price is reasonable and is competitive with other quality caterers out there. You get above and beyond what you pay for.
If you want GREAT food, GREAT service and GREAT Satisfaction go with Alex's Catering.
I cannot say enough great things about Alex's!
I would recommend working with Tom or Sammy!!! -

We used Alex's catering for our wedding. I'll start off by saying the food tasted REALLY good; we also had a great time at the tasting. Our sales rep was incredibly nice, as was the wait staff at the wedding.
With that said, there were some issues I had with them at the wedding. My biggest beef was the cost. I understand things are pricey in the Napa Valley; however, I don't think what we got from them warranted such high costs, especially for a dry wedding. Also, apparently there was some miscommunication about the drinks at the tables for the guests - they were wrong, and clashed unmercifully with our linens. They also didn't provide a few items that were on our agreed-upon menu, which REALLY disappointed me. The service was unusually slow, and they cut our cake into microscopic pieces for our guests, even though we had enough to go around (it was embarrassing).
I was hoping for more for the price we paid. -

We had contacted many caterers for quotes and Alex's by far had the best value when considering price, quality, experience, and offerings. We enlisted Alex's to have a pre-ceremony beverage meet and greet; a cocktail event post-ceremony for 1.5 hours with 6 butler passed hors d'oeuvres; a dinner reception with bread, soup, salad, a choice of one of 4 entrees; a dessert buffet with 24 varieties; service of our wedding cake with no cake cutting fee, and service of our self-purchased alcohol with no corkage fee. They even flipped our ceremony space into our reception space in the rotunda by setting up all the chairs, linens, place settings, etc.
They closed up shop the entire day and didn't take on any other client like they normally do. I was expecting nothing short of fantastic but they delivered and it was phenomenal.
Our guests complimented thoroughly on the service as they were extremely attentive, efficient, and friendly. They had even nicer things to say about the food. Alex's completely blew the catering stereotype that food made in mass quantities needed to be less than par. The food was INCREDIBLY delicious, especially when you factor in the kitchen being a city's block away downstairs and outside in a makeshift tent. The service they provided was immaculate and I would recommend them in a heartbeat.
We contacted different caterers for the same menu and Alex's catered a LOT lower than the others. Turns out they didn't realize how much they undercharged until after we signed the contract upon them speaking with other caterers for this particular venue since they had never worked it.
Rolando was extremely fun to work with; he's very honest, has a great sense of humor, but is high energy and fast paced.
My DH is now comparing every single freaking piece of halibut, steak, and pasta to that from the night of the wedding and saying how nothing compares. Can you believe the food at the wedding was actually even better than at the tasting? Wow. -

Here is how wonderful they are:
Thirteen years ago, I worked for a company that hired them to cater a dinner for about 40 people. I was the contact person, and found owner Tom Pezzuto and his team were so great, I actually decided that if I ever got married, they would cater my wedding.
Fast forward over a decade. I'm engaged and the second thing I do (after confirming the venue and date, of course) is call Alex's to make sure they're available! They were! And Tom even remembered me!
They hosted a fabulous tasting where my MOHs and I were very impressed with their Filipino food (we are all Pinay and actually pleasantly surprised at their take on adobo). A full-service caterer, they took care of linens, chairs, tables, plates and flatware, as well as additional props such as lighting. Tom's attentiveness and attention to detail made this aspect of my wedding the LEAST of my worries. He was professional and a joy to work with, and everyone said it was the BEST wedding food they'd ever had. Their rates for a family-style dinner for 130+ people with the level of service they delivered was SO worth it.
As if that weren't enough, I have to add that Tom and his staff were just downright delightful. Alex's made our big day extra special. -

Alex's Catering catered my wedding this month @ Nicholson Ranch Winery in Sonoma. We tasted other vendors in Wine Country and they did not compare to Alex's. The food was superb and the service excellent. Rolando helped me during my 2 year planning and he was so helpful and has such a creative vision. He and his captain, Yodi, made sure that the wedding went smoothly and I am so grateful to him and the rest of the team at Alex's Catering for making my wedding day the best day ever!
Our wedding was a buffet of Mahi Mahi and Tri Tip steak along with other California inspired sides. The hors d'oeurves were Latino-Californian fusion with ceviche shooters, carnitas crisps, california chicken cones & asparagus straws...I tried them all and they were SO DE-LISH!
We got so many compliments about the food and wine at our wedding. If you go with Alex's, you can't go wrong.Listed in: Nuptial Bliss

My now wife and I interviewed the "leading" Napa Valley caterers, and were slightly disappointed. I consulted Yelp and came across Alex's Catering.
Alex's excelled above the competition every regard. Our first call with Tom could only be described as quintessentially professionally, consultative, and helpful. While most other caterers preferred to spend the time telling us how great they were, Tom was more interested in what we wanted, and how they could help make our event unique and special.
Following the initial call, Tom took everything discussed into consideration and created a menu that was ambitious and impressive. We arrived at the tasting to find that we would be addressing not only the food, but options for linen and place settings based on his experience with the location and our discussion.
It should be noted that we were not being upsold or pressured, but this service was being done out of convenience (something not provided by others). He even attempted to down-sell us on the wine glasses to help meet the budget.
On to the food...brilliant. There is nothing to be said here other than as self-regarded foodies and as those difficult to please (culinarily speaking); we were blown away. I had never been to a wedding where guests discussed how great the food and service was to the groom and bride at the event...however Alex's warranted this dialog.
At this point, I should take a step back...following our internal accolades, my family met with Tom and arranged tastings for their events. Alex's was selected for each and every event...and never disappointed. Alex's has excellent Project Managers and staff that execute on their demanding standards.
Thank you Tom and Alex's. Be sure to put them on your list...I am confident you will not be disappointed. -

Our experience with Alex's was VERY positive every step of the way. Sammy was our coordinator and was excellent, but everyone we dealt with at Alex's was commited to the success of our event. The food is high quality and delicious, the staff is professional and courteous; we can't say enough wonderful things about Alex's.

We looked at 3 or 4 wedding caterers in Sonoma, and I'm really glad we went with Alex's.
Before getting to the details, however, let's get something out of the way: all of the options for this type of event are ridiculously expensive. For what you pay, you would think that Joel Robuchon is cooking it and serving it to you in bed. Plus, the mark-ups are just plain abusive: after you've passed the sticker shock on the food itself, you find out that the silverware, the servers, even the transportation of the food to your site all cost extra. So if you didn't go for these "extras," you'd be getting, what, a pile of raw ingredients on the caterer's loading dock? But I digress..
Anyway, Alex's is no worse than the others regarding the cost, and at least you'll be happy with the end product. Simply put, the food was excellent and drew nothing but compliments from our guests. I thought the food was much more "California-style" than some of the other caterers in that it emphasized the natural flavors of high quality ingredients rather than heavy sauces and schmancy menu descriptions. The staff, particularly Rolando, was also easy to deal with. A week before the wedding, here's what you want to hear from the winery: "You've got Rolando? Perfect, he'll know how to run the dinner." Moreover, they were right: the food was excellent and there were no snafus. -

So apparently Jacquie is no longer employed at Alex's, so knowing that I would recommend them based on the interactions I had with Tom. Also, their main dishes that I tasted were amazing, appetizers were about average & their prices were better than most other caterers I spoke with.

We just had Alex's to be our wedding reception caterer in Sonoma county. The food was really incredible. They designed a custom menu for us, Asian inspired appetizers and California cuisine family style dinner. It turned out a huge success. Both of our local friends and family members from Taiwan love the food! Fabulous presentation, professional service, everything went well as what we planned.
Ask for Rolando. He did a great job. We felt so released to work with him as his well experiences and efficiency. As for the cost, among those super expensive vendors in wine country, Alex's is reasonable especially they offer house tablecloth, napkin, glasses, and china which will save the rental bill. -

We used Alexs for Oct 22nd wedding in fairfield ca at Vezer Vineyards, and they were perfect!!!, as they had been from the begining. Im a vallejo native so i wanted to stay as local as possible and Alexs has been a downtown establishment forever. My husband and i met with Tom over a year ago to discuss the menu for our wedding. We went in with no timeline or a plan for the day other then when the ceremony would be and the colors i wanted. By the time we left ther we had the menu, linens, flatware, glassware and a timeline worked out for the evening. They have numerous choices for all the above mentioned items in a range of prices. Six monthe before the wedding tom and i met at the location to go over table placement for not only the guests but the cake, buffet, sign in, bar and isle charis, and he had drawn up a diagram of the location for other vendors as well as his staff to know where everything was to go. The day of was perfect. his staff was there on time, they dressed the tables and delt with orders from my mother about some last minute items. they were amazing and tentative servers...we did buffet but had passed hor de vours....and at the end of the night they packed up a to -go bag for me and my honey. the food was amazing!!!...and we are picky, foodie people and the cost is in line with a great catering experience!

We received bids from a couple of different caterers and Alex's hit it out of the park. The bid was a lovely story - it described the various components of the wedding and really made you imagine it (vs other caterers that just give you an invoice). When we went to the tasting, the food and presentation completely lived up to our expectations.
The day of, the food was just as good! The heirloom tomato bar and BBQ Pork Crisps were huge hits. In fact, I would love another pork crisp right now
Alex's also did a great job of rolling with the punches. We had a couple of no-shows, so we asked the extra food be delivered to one of our louder and hungrier guests. They didn't even ask questions - they just did it.
Their services are more expensive than some of the competition - but you get what you pay for. -

We just had our wedding the beginning of August and had Alex's cater both our welcome party and wedding. Our guests raved about the food. My dad wasn't a fan of spending a lot on food, he says "no one remembers and it's never good" - he goes to a lot of meetings/conferences. When we did the tasting he was blown away and still can't stop talking about it. He became a believer in paying for good food.
Also, the day of both events Tim was utterly amazing. All our guests wanted Tim to say and hang out he was that good. His disposition is really perfect for the industry he's in. He is just a friendly person who is so on the ball and wants to make your day special. In addition, he had a "emergency kit", which included tide wipes to get a stain out of my dress from my flowers. I was so impressed that the caterer had this! If you have your wedding ask for Tim!
One complaint is the wait staff was very heavy handed in pouring wine at dinner and our guests had 2 full glasses at every second of red and white wine, people had to start putting napkins over their glasses so they wouldn't get anymore.
All in all, Alex's was fantastic! -

My wife and I got married at V. Sattui in St. Helena, and interviewed 3-4 of their preferred caterers. Ultimately, we went with Alex's for two reasons: their food was incredible, and Jacquie was the type of straight shooting, honest, laid back, and flexible person with whom we ideally wanted to work.
First, the food. Our wedding took place nearly three months ago as I write this, and we're still getting compliments from friends about Alex's. Like many brides and grooms, we didn't have a chance to eat much beyond an occasional appetizer. That said, people raved about the filet and mahi mahi that we served. I cannot imagine that you'll be disappointed on the quality of the food -- it really is that good.
Second, the staff. Jacquie was our contact leading up to the wedding, and she set us straight on a number of occasions. (Neither my wife nor I had any sort of grand vision for what we wanted in terms of linens, plates, chargers, place settings, etc.) That said, she did so with patience and grace, and we're really happy that she did. We had another woman named Yodi on the day of the wedding, and I thought she was great. I didn't hear a single complaint from anyone about the service, pours, presentation, or preparation, which is probably the best compliment one can give. That said, I'll go one farther, and say that I was more than happy to share a beer with some of the servers at the end of the evening. I felt it was the least I could do for a job so well done. -

I attended a tasting at Alex's and was blown away by the appetizers. We had asparagus wrapped in Phyllo /dusted with Parmegiano Reggiano, gorgeous bacon-wrapped chicken spiedini presented on a bed of wheat grass, beautiful little tar tar cups and a perfectly dressed mixed green salad with pear and walnuts. I was also super impressed by their flexibility with the choice of dishes. They had four tables laid out with beautiful China and they said that I could pick any plates that I wanted. They had some beautiful choices and the chef was super creative with suggestions on how to server certain dishes. They served us a lovely wine with our meal that I would be totally happy serving at my wedding, but that would not break the bank. If you need a caterer, I would highly recommend you consider Alex's Catering. Another very positive attribute was their openness to making dishes that are culturally relevant to you. Most caterers have their repertoire and that's it. I recommend that you give them ideas on the foods you would love to have at your event prior to attending a tasting.

Alex's does an amazing job in every aspect of catering an event. Every member of their staff, from the sales team to the day of event staff are so friendly, work well as a team and take notice in all the little details.
If you are a big foodie and presentation is your thing, you can't go wrong with them as they have the best in the valley. Not only does it look amazing but it tastes fantastic too!
I highly recommend them for any event you're looking to have catered. -

I received wonderful reviews about the food at my wedding. It was all great and not your "typical" wedding food, as one guest put it. It was all very fresh. I worked with Tom, who was very easy to work with. He explained all of the costs so there were no surprises. He tried to work within our budget. He was flexible in making changes along the way. Great food, great service. I could not have been happier with my selection of caterer's!
