I don't get my haircuts here, but I go here for waxing!
Monica is really friendly and easy to talk too.
She's done my eyebrows and brazilian waxing, and every time I go, she makes it very comfortable and turns out great! I've been going here for an year now! I wish I could find a waxing place good as here back home in OC. -

I've only ever gotten my bangs trimmed here and it was good. I really liked that I was able to use a $5 referral gift card a friend gave me for a $5 service, but they apparently discontinued these cards. It was cool that they honored it. Even though there was no expiration date, it had been over a year since I had received it, so it wouldn't have been super unreasonable to not take it. Free good bang trim combined with friends' recommendations warrant a good review.
However, I took my boyfriend here to get his haircut. He hates haircuts, so whenever I can get him at a softy moment, I press my advantage. I think he told them to take a few inches off all the way around, but keep the shape. His hair gets scraggly enough to warrant a few inches each cut.
He did not walk in with Zac Efron shaped hair. He did walk in with an attempted Zac Efron haircut though. I guess this is what all the bros in IV ask for, but this is not his style. Bangs were side swept and the back was super short. Just looking at him, you know this is not a haircut he would have asked for or one that would work on him.
For the guys cut they are definitely one star, but for costs, service, and women's I could give them a 4.5. Round up to 3. -

I have a brow lady in Orange County who I sincerely love (Anna Maria, Salon Boucle, go there if you are in OC), but I was late in making an appointment with her and wanted my brows done for a concert I was going to. (ok let's be honest it was a rave)
I came in as a walk in and they got me in within twenty minutes. Monica did my brows and she was pretty friendly, and did a great job. I was scared going in and was really surprised how well they turned out.
I took off stars because the other people working there were not friendly. They looked at me awkwardly and didn't say hi. I guess they're hairdressers so it's not their job to roll out the welcome wagon, but it looks bad.
And, worse for me, the waxing couch had one of those paper covers on it like they have at the doctor and it was obviously wrinkled (used by someone else before me) and she didn't change it. Maybe someone was just sitting on it, but maybe they were getting a Brazilian! I'm glad that I didn't wear shorts. -_- -

The first time I came in, I had a good experience.
The second time, I scheduled an appointment for 4pm. At 3, they left a voice mail asking me to come in at 4:30 because they were running behind.
When I called back and asked to come in a little after 4:30, they said they couldn't do it because they had an appointment at 5.
This told me three things:
1. They don't respect my time
2. They're not too good at sticking to their schedule
3. They don't value repeat business
I'm not sure why they decided that it was OK to move my appointment at the last minute and not the subsequent appointments (which would have let them fit everyone in). Whatever the reason, I wouldn't trust them to keep my appointment in the future, so I don't think I'll return. -

I freakin love this guy. He's been cutting my hair since 2005 and I won't go anywhere else. I've referred all of my friends from cut to color because he is amazing at everything he does. The girls I hear are awesome too, but I don't know personally from my own experience.
The shop located in Isla Vista is fully loaded with beauty products and more. Go by, check it out, and let Alex make a believer out of you! -

Even though I cancelled my first haircut appointment last minute, the receptionist was very helpful in helping me reschedule and even called the night before to reconfirm the appointment.
I got my hair cut by Alex and he was very attentive to my requests, even if it didn't seem like he really paying attention at first.
Don't get me wrong, I love my new haircut and I definitely will return.
only one thing threw me about the whole experience: there was a lot of "oh it's sooo cute" which didn't sound genuine after the 10th time. -

Only four stars, cause my bangs look dumb.
Other than that, the stylists here are all super nice and really funny. Told me drunken bar stories and Cinco de Mayo horror stories (hey, it's isla vista, anything goes.)
I got my haircut by Erin, who did a fabulous job and actually listened to what I wanted instead of doing whatever she wanted! The only thing i did not like were the way she straightened my bangs, they look kinda silly.
I'll definitely be returning here once I'm ready to chop off my hair to donate!
Alex came highly recommended so I think I'll try him next! -

I'd say one of the best haircuts I have ever gotten. I got an appointment with 2 friends and went. We got there a bit early and got seated right at our scheduled time.
One of my friends was quite nervous about getting her cut done because she rarely cuts hers short and was trying a new style. Not only did her stylist (Alex) help calm her down he did one hell of job!
As for me, I wasn't even sure what I wanted until I got into the salon. I finally decided on a style and my stylist, Kristina, did it picture perfect (had the GQ magazine opened to the style). It was also a great atmosphere because everyone there was all around the same age as me (21), in fact, Kristina was younger then me which made me a bit nervous but I had NOTHING to worry about. My hair turned out even better then I thought and once I left I kept getting compliments left and right.
The price is pretty normal for a cut (for me it was about $25-30) and I was offered some water while getting the cut too.
I highly recommend this place because of the price and the excellent job they did with my friends hair and mine. I also recommend getting your cut from either my hairstylist (Kristina) or my friends stylist (Alex). -

Alex is soooo talented when it comes to color. I always go in saying "I don't really know what color I want...what do you think would look good on me?" ...and I've never been disappointed!!! Everytime he has highlighted or dyed my hair, I've gotten multiple compliments from strangers.
It's always a treat to go to Alex's because everyone there is fun to talk to, getting a shampoo is more like getting a massage, and you'll end up looking fab. -

alex did my hair for two glorious years, until i graduated from UCSB. he is absolutely amazing! and the prices are the best in town. it's so convenient if you live in IV, you can walk or bike, and leave with fabulous, ready-to-wear hair. i haven't been able to find anyone comparable in my years of searching since then. alex, would you consider moving to san diego???
