5th floor, baby!! Most of their nurses are the best of the best! There are a few that I could do without, but a lot of the nursing staff goes above and beyond to see patients are well taken care of. Thank goodness for good nurses.
Was recently in for major surgery and they have some of the best doctors ever. I wouldn't trust any other hospital to take care of me...not after having so much done at ABMC. -

Took my 4yr niece to the ER as she was running a high fever.
As we entered the greeter inquired why we were there and walked us to the nurse window right by the entrance. The lady kept repeatedly tapping on the ledge on the nurses window and said stay here stay here. I wanted to assure her that we were going to stay there without her having to force us to do so. Anyway it was a precursor for things to follow. The male nurse was somewhat cranky and appeared to be under pressure ( a negative for the hospital for understaffing people and overworking them) Certainly not inline with the hospitals adage of compassionn and care. Anyway after that we were told to sit and wait till we got called. After being called first for the insurance processing the second call came in about 15 mins for the doctor to see us. Short wait =Plus point... this is where they earned the star 1 of 2
A nurse walks in and she was also projecting the I don't want to be here sentiment. Had to give her a run down of everything we told the first nurse. She said they will do some X-ray. I inquired if it was safe for a child. A short while later she walks back in and declares that instead they will be doing a urine test to check for any infections. Which was fine. I am not in favor of exposing kids or even adults to X-rays when they are not needed.
I guess it pays to ask questions.
The doctor was okay, gave us a run down of what to do and said to wait for two days for test results to see if any antibiotics will be needed.
The discharge paperwork said your child was given antibiotic via injection as a precaution, when in fact only she was given was tylenol and motrin in the ER. When I pointed out they kinda downplayed it and I let it go.
To summarize my criticism.:
1) Apparent rude and uncaring staff (ones we encountered, I am sure they have the caring personnel too)
2) Paperwork is not accurate
3) Questionable initial approach at diagnosis
I hope the huge Jesus statue and cross in each room doesnt imply that patients should expect more divine intervention and less medical/personal care. I think we might try Northwest Community Hospital next, since divine help can be found everywhere. -

I have had two similar procedures done--one was here, and one was at "Hospital X."
Here, I got to pick my doctor, who spoke to me both before and after the procedure. At Hospital X, I was assigned a doctor, and if we spoke at all, it was when I was under the influence of the anesthesia, so I don't remember it.
Here, the anesthesiologist (Dr. Lee) was totally awesome. She told me what I should expect and gave me something that left me feeling refreshed, if a little ditzy, when I came back around. She also stayed with me until I was unconscious to make sure everything went as it should. At Hospital X, the anesthesiologist walked away while it was still taking effect. When my arm started burning, I groggily freaked out to the nurse, who assured me as I drifted away that it wasn't an allergic reaction. I guess it wasn't, because I was fine after, but I sure would have liked to have gone under with the anesthesiologist's word that I would be ok and not that of a nurse who had only arrived ta moment ago. I think I was also given too high a dose at Hospital X, because I was a total wreck for the next 12+ hours, whereas at Alexian Brothers, I was able to dress myself before leaving and feed myself when I got home.
Here, I was given multiple warmed blankets and time quotes for most things. A couple of those were off, but for the most part, we waited about as long as we were told. At Hospital X, I wasn't given time quotes as often as I would have liked and waited in my hospital bed with just a sheet for part of the time.
In other words, if I need this type of procedure or pretty much anything else where I have to go under, I'm coming here and hoping that Dr. Lee will be there to help me conk out good and proper.
I know, that sounds like a 5-star review, right? Well, the rest of the staff isn't made up the same kind of rock stars that you get from the medical team.
I called ahead to find out where to drop off some samples before my procedure. The person on the phone gave me bad directions, and I parked on the wrong side of the hospital. When I arrived, I was also misdirected by the desk staff, turning what could have been a 5-minute trip into a half hour of confusion.
I was also told that I should update my records in Department B, because Department A couldn't do it. I show up at Department B, who says I actually should be in Department C. Department C, which has no sign marking its location, tells me that Department A already did it, so I didn't have to be there at all. WHAT?!?
Furthermore, the people in Departments A, B, and C all stressed the importance of making sure my procedure was pre-approved by the insurance, because outpatient procedures require pre-approval. I called my insurance provider to get this taken care of, and they told me that I do not, in fact, require pre-approval for outpatient procedures, only for procedures that require a longer stay. I therefore spent nearly forty minutes on the phone trying to get a pre-approval I didn't need.
In short, Alexian Brothers has 5-star medical care and 2-star bureaucracy. The medical part is really more important, but oh my god, was this the wrong week to waste my time. My power was out, I wasn't feeling well at all (hence the procedure), and it's also construction season here in lovely Chicagoland. Do not trap me in a long, winding hallway when I haven't had a proper shower in 2 days and I feel like crap. Pretty please.
I don't have kids, so I can't speak for or against the maternity ward except to say that my sister was born here nearly two decades ago, and they didn't drop her or anything. High five!
Bonus stuff: they have a very large chapel here, if you like that sort of thing. It's by a good number of restaurants, is near the airport, and parking isn't a problem. There's also a forest preserve nearby for those times when you've spent a bunch of unnecessary time running around a hospital and really need to take a nice long walk to keep yourself from throwing things out the window at other drivers as you head home trough the construction traffic. -

If you go to the Emergency room here, you need to know that the ER Doctors are outsourced by another company. And that other company isn't approved as in network by many insurance companies.
I think this is crap, considering that if you are in the emergency room - you aren't really in a state to call your insurance company to make sure that the DOCTOR is in network at a facility that is in network.
Just a heads up my friends..... -

I gave birth at this hospital and I have to say, compared to where my first daughter was first born, this place was heaven! The nurses were SO NICE HERE! They accommodated me with whatever I needed and wanted! They would sit and talk me through the process as if I was family to them and I still remember all the nurses names!
When I was in labor me and my husband had a personal room. Looked very homey like and it made me very comfortable. I was in labor for 24 hours and saw practically 8 nurses and they all remembered me by name and were just so pleasant. Dr. Mruz was the doctor that delivered my daughter. After our daughter was born they put us in another room. The room was like a hotel room! When you order food, they have room service! I didn't have the greatest insurance either, but they treated me as if I was spending a million dollars on a room! My husband was able to sleep there overnight with me which was even more great and our daughter too! They have a "congratulations" dinner for you too, after you deliver the baby (PIZZA WAS GREAT!).
Greatest experience ever! I will deliver every one of my future children at this hospital. =) -

I've been here for lab tests and accompanied someone for an emergency visit.
I have had a good experience. For the lab test I was guided by friendly staff to the right check in location. I didn't have to wait long at all and was showed to the lab right away. I did my test and was offfered water or juice which I thought was very nice.
For the ER visit the staff helped me get to the right location.
I feel that they provide very good health care at this hospital. -

I consider this the best hospital in the area. My doc's are here and they are always, I mean always updating and upgrading this place. My kids were all born here, the staff are always fantastic.

I've had more tests and procedures here than I care to admit and every single time the staff was nothing short of friendly and helpful. I've never experienced that at another hospital and it's the reason why when my doctor wants to send me for tests, I always choose this facility. All the nurses and technicians seem to really care about you. If I ever have to be admitted to the hospital for any reason, I'd definitely choose this one.

My local hospital gets mixed reviews from me. On the plus side, we had to bring a neighbor to the ER once, and everyone was highly professional, caring and attentive. And the chapel inside is very lovely. On the negative side, Alexian Brothers has not been a good neighbor, forcing one of Elk Grove Village's longest residents to sell her property to them so they could level her home and gorgeous gardens for a lousy parking lot. My worst personal experience was the one-time I visited an OB/Gyn in the hospital building. She advised me to LIE about taking the pill to get pregnant! I can't believe Alexian would have someone so unethical on staff, so that is why my rating is on the negative side.

OK, I just need to add that this place has the fastest test results...EVER. I had an MRI on a Saturday and the results were ready by Monday. Then I had a Spinal Tap (ha ha funny -the procedure, not the band) on a Tuesday and it was ready the following Friday. When you are all worried about the impending doom of your potential illness, you need your results ASAP. Alexian Brothers delivers...and they are really nice. And have pretty good food in the cafeteria. So there.

Caring and highly-skilled nurses and physicians. I had a baby here, and outpatient sugery. The admitting clerks, technicians, nurses, anesthesiologists and food service staff were PERFECT! In other words, I got plenty of rest and didn't feel rushed to leave - they let me heal and answered my many questions. Later I had billing/insurance issues, but the manager worked on it personally and I was pleased. I've not found this combination of customer service and good care at a hospital before or since.

So my employer changes insurances and the only way I would have everything covered would be if I went to Alexian Brothers. Problem for me since I live in the northside of the city close to the lake; it would just be too long of a commute. Anyways, I was very impressed during my last 2 visits to Alexian within the past week. Last Friday, I had to go to the ER and was expecting to wait for a couple of hours. However, 15 minutes later, I was called in, placed in a room, and was met by the physician. The physician and nurse were great.....very friendly and knowledgeable. A few days later, I had to return to follow-up with a new doctor. I was totally surprised at how punctual he was. Again, I was expecting to wait longer, perhaps more than half an hour. But, I was out of there in less than half an hour. Afterwards, I had to go to the outpatient lab to get blood work done and that took less than 20 minutes. I could not believe that I was out of the hospital in an hour!
I have been previously receiving services from Northwestern and I'd consider myself lucky if I had to wait for only one hour to see the doctor. Even though Alexian Brothers is a long drive away, it's worth it for me. The people are excellent and the service is quick and attentive. -

My friend had both of her babies here. They did a great job throughout her stay at the hospital. The nurses were especially friendly and caring -- they would be there at any time to help out or assist for anything. I was very impressed with their great service and clean and well-kept facilities.
