I am giving this a 2 instead of lower, because I can't really speak about the mechanical services and I just stopped once for gas. But I had a bad experience just trying to pump gas, and I think it is worth a report.

I was minding my own business at the pump. An attendant came over for no apparent reason and gave me a high pressure sales pitch for an expensive gas additive. He was extremely persistent and I was uncomfortable. I ended up buying it, mostly to get him to back off.

Another woman has made a similar report in a report on another site, though with her it was for a "paid" tire inflation.

I will fill up somewhere else now. There are several other stations right around.

    4.5 stars.

I don't normally review gas stations, in fact this is my first. But I got to thinking today, when my tire pressure light came on, about how often the head mechanic at this place, Simpy, has made my life easier.

Less expensive, no. I pay $30+ for an oil change here. But that's because Simpy and her crew have cared for all of my cars over the past five years, from my SUV to my 1981 Ford pickup, Bluebell, to my new, cute Nissan Versa.

They've always kicked it to me straight, never tried to sucker me in to services I didn't need. If she doesn't have a part to do the service I request, she tells me so and recommends somewhere else for me to take it, which I am always loathe to do, instead of bullshitting me and keeping my car and I apart for longer than necessary.

It's hard to find a good, honest mechanic. Especially if you're a girl. I'm not a feminist or anything, but I've seen my mom get screwed over for things at shops before and my dad had to go in there and lay the smackdown.

I think it's worth it to pay a little more for reliable, quick and honest service. Not five stars worth it, though.

Okay, for years I've hated this gas station.  When you pull up to the pump an attendant approaches -- you think to help -- but he's really trying to sell you a bottle of something to put in your gas that you clearly don't need.

They are so aggressive and in your face it is crazy.  I just go to the no name gas station next door, where the cashier is grumpy and pays you no mind as it should be!

HARASSMENT!!! Sayid harassing you to buy the gas additive.  I had been through it once and I saw him showing his receipts of how many people bought it (this is his trick to get you) to a nice lady who was definitely uncomfortable, and I told her not to do it and he was so angry with me.  Just say no! He comes comes running towards you when you pull in to pump gas.  They are driving a ton of business next door.

This service station is, by far, the worst I have ever been to. They are thieves! The location was very close to my office which made it convenient but believe me, I will go out of my way to avoid them in the future.

First of all, they are located on Washington Street in Alexandria amongst 3 or 4 other gas/service stations. They have the most expensive gas on the street - how can they get away with it?

Secondly, there is this sleezy guy that walks around trying to get money from everyone that walks in the door or anyone that even pumps gas outside. He tries to give you BOGUS coupons for service. These "coupons" are a ripoff. Do not fall in to that trap.

Simpy is very nice but she is no better when it comes to taking your money. This Exxon, on two occassions, has tried to take me for $500+ dollars for work that didn't need to be done. First, they tried to tell me that I needed to replace my oil pan at a cost of approximately $600. Not true. I got a second and THIRD opinion from other places and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the oil pan and there is no leak. Secondly, they tried to tell me that I needed to replace my entire suspension system (I heard some rattling) at a cost of $950. Not true! I got several more opinions and the issue was very simple and only cost $100 to fix.

These people are thieves and they will rip you off any chance they get. They seem nice but do NOT let it fool you.

p.s. - Their oil changes are $50+. What a joke.

Please don't go here.  They guy always tries to rip you off, and there is cheaper gas next door.  There is nothing worse then the little manager man coming out to try to sell you some useless crap to put in your gas tank.  I was totally put off the last time I went to get gas here, and I'm never going back.  He also tried (rudely) to tell me my inspection was expired (as if I'd get one here), when I have over 5 months to go!

These people are frauds and criminals!  They should be avoided at all costs.  I too, am victim of their State Inspection scams.  DO NOT GET YOUR AUTO INSPECTED at this station.  They try to tell you your headlamps need adjusting and can do it for $50.  I had a bad feeling about them, but went ahead.  My guess is that they reset the lamps (according to the dealer, it is easy to do with a phillips screwdriver) themselves.

I paid $49.86 for a standard oil change here today (labor, standard oil, oil filter, and washer fluid top-off). This strikes me as a bit pricey given I've never paid more than $33 at other places. I usually stop here because it's so close to Trader Joe's, but I've been put off in the past by the occasional broken or leaky pump, and yes, the man who tries so hard to sell his beloved gas tank elixir. I think I'll try the station next door next time . . .

This review is ONLY for the mechanical services of Simpy. I agree with the issues related to the gas additive sales pitch having experienced it myself. However, Simpy has singlehandedly helped me keep my 14 year old car working and "alive" under difficult circumstances at very very reasonable prices, I think. I trust her judgement and I trust her to tell me when things are too difficult to fix -- how do I know? Because I ask other people, who agree that her advice is sage. Plus, a female mechanic? So awesome. So, two thumbs up to Simpy. If you have an old car and need support keeping it up and running, it's absolutely worth the trip to Old Town.
