Decent food. Some of our dishes were surprisingly good. The crab pretzel was good. I would not recommend the scallops unless you love pesto. Overall I would not go back unless I had a mother http://Restaurant.com gift certificate to use.
It is also extremely overpriced.Comment from Andrea B. of Alexandra's at Turf Valley 3/16/2012

The food here is absolutely horrible. I have been a couple times for brunch. It seems to be a favorite of the grandmothers. Mainly, I think, due to the fact that she feels it is fancy and is close to where she lives. By fancy, I mean outdated and nothing special...The brunch is ridiculously overpriced for what you are getting. I guess the only thing that Alexandra's has going for it is that it located on a golf course. I personally would rather overlook a landfill and get some decent food.

I wish I could give this place no stars. We went there a couple of weeks ago and my daughter, who is 6, ordered a well done burger. The burger came and it was medium rare. The dish I ordered had risotto that was undercooked and overly seasoned; it was not edible. My whole family was sick the next couple of days. The kicker was that the restaurant only had one other table and the service and food was poor. I will never go back to this place.

Went here for Brunch Sunday. Service got really slow once we wanted the check. Food was bad to so-so and definitely not worth the charge of 28.95. Thank goodness for groupon, but even with the groupon I was convinced that the meal was not worth the $14 I paid.
What they have:
Unlimited...
Champagne
Mimosas (so-so)
Bloody Mary's (it taste like alcohol infused by vegetable juice; not good alcohol either)
Smoked Salmon (decent)
Chocolate cake (dense)
Carrot cake (dense)
Oatmeal raisin cookies (cheap ones)
Chocolate chip cookies (cheap ones)
Vanilla Ice Cream (cheap kind)
Fruit (usual cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, blueberries)
Stir Fried String Beans and carrots (bland)
Prime Rib (decent)
Eggs Benedict (decent)
French Toast (decent)
Seafood stew stuff (yuck! way too saucy and seafood was not fresh)
Crab Soup (decent)
Bagels (meh)
Starbucks standard coffee (decaf, regular, and bold?)
Rice with some grain (bland but buttery)
Made to order omelets
Home fries
Things to know:
Got to be seated by 2pm
There doesn't seem to be anything else in the club/hotel
I will never come back to eat here -

Went for a nice dinner with the Mrs. Had to spend $100 to get $50 off. Not very hard to do here even when you can't count the alcohol...
Service was great, very attentive- possibly because we were alone in the place for the first hour (we went early, YMMV). We really went at it. Baked brie (nice), cream of crab crab soup (OK), shiitake+peas risoto (very good), lamb (good), and crab crusted sea bass (good). Then creme brule (x2- one for the babysitter) was delicious as were chocolate covered strawberries. With one glass of wine and one beer we were at $145...
The best single item might have been the fried asparagus. That was very, very tasty.
It as all good, some very good. Nice atmosphere, nice service, nothing not to like. But we won't hurry back. If someone offers to take me there and feed me for free, great. I'd love to. But most items were way too expensive for what we got. $28 for six tiny lamb pieces, seven asparagus spears, and a small but tasty salad? Not again, and least not anytime soon. -

We've been to Turf Valley Resort a number of times for a number of reasons, and dined by default each time at Alexandra's. It's the only thing going here. If you want to eat at Turf Valley, you eat at Alexandra's. Brilliant business move, because I'd never eat here otherwise.
The breakfast/brunch buffet is a total rip for what you get. Which is a completely lackluster and uninspired spread of typical morning fare, hardly more exciting than the complimentary Continental at Hampton Inn: pre-scrambled and unappealing eggs, flaccid French toast, freezer-burned home fries, dried out breads and pastries. The saving grace of the buffet is the omelet station, however. Omelets are prepared to-order, fresh, and packed with ingredients. [The coffee is also really strong and very good. It's Starbucks, tho: womp, wommmmp.] "Breakfast" buffet goes until 11:00 and will run you a whopping $25. "Brunch" buffet comes out at 11:00, and you pay $10 more for things like green salad and carvery meat. Woo. Hoo.
Service could use some polish. This weekend when we dined here -- with a group of 15 -- we were told we *could* be seated, but we'd have to "race through" the breakfast buffet in 15 minutes or fewer because it was going to be replaced by the brunch buffet shortly; and that we'd need to be out "promptly at 11:30" in order to turn our table. Customer service is not a priority here.
Someone else mentioned the badly-in-need-of-updating decor, too. It's super 80s: peach and mint-green like Blanche Devereaux's bedroom. I love me some "Golden Girls", but even the ladies changed their look with the times.Listed in: Murrlin', Breakfast Hit (and Miss)…

I've had to stay at the Turf Valley Resort a few times for a conference so I have eaten at Alexandra's a few different times. It's a pretty lackluster place with pretty basic service. They're definitely not going to go out of their way to make sure you have a good experience. The staff usually just does the bare minimum as far as refilling drinks, bringing you menus, etc.
The food isn't that great either. I discovered that a lot of the food is frozen and heated up by the kitchen. I understand that this has to be the case occasionally, but still, ick.
I have had salads, sandwiches, quesadillas, etc. Everything is just "meh" and I only eat here because the resort is so isolated from everything and I often don't have the time to leave and go elsewhere.
I haven't had the breakfast buffet, but I am not going to lie, it looks good. They had an omelet station, shrimp, roast beef carving stations, etc.
I am just not impressed with Alexandra's and I would NEVER go out of my way to eat there. -

This place is tucked away inside Turf Valley Hotel Resort and Golf Course complex. Only an hour away from Washington, DC, I had the pleasure of staying here for 2 months in one of their apartments overlooking the golf course.
This restaurant is good to very good...but not the best in the area like Tersiguel's in old Ellicott City, a few miles away. However the food is better than most in hotel room service restaurants. and the Sunday brunch is very good.
What this place has going for it is that you can have a weekend getway here....enjoy the spa, massage, beauty salon, the large pool (big enough to do long workout laps), golf, or enjoy the trees....and then have a very good meal without ever leaving the premises. Great place to escape the Wash DC madness, but close and still have all the luxury amenities of a good hotel.
This is a family owned business, so there is a more personal feeling about the place....and the atmosphere is very sedate...... -

I took my 70 year old mom there for brunch after purchasing a Groupon for 1/2 off the $30 price tag It was horrible, the food was very low grade, poor quality. The hot stuff was cold the cold stuff was warm. The buffet was a mess, dirty, and as a certified food handler it was unsanitary. When brought to the attention of management she was indifferent, uncaring and well rude. Save your money and find a better option ( like MacDonalds) for brunch in the Ellicott City area.

We stayed at Turf Valley for a wedding over the summer and had occasion to eat in the restaurant twice. It was honestly, quite painful. The view of the course is nice enough, but the restaurant is very run down. The ceiling had water marks and cracks and the decor, dated as a late 70's/early 80's hotel restaurant, was falling apart.
For breakfast and brunch, they have a handful of dishes out on a buffet. The selection of dishes overall is nice, but the execution of each dish was fairly terrible. The fruit was terrible. The eggs benedict consisted of an english muffin, liquified on top and rubbery uncuttable board below, with ham of a plastic consistency, and a poached egg with a hard yolk covered in congealed hollandaise topped with paprika. Granted, that was the worst of the lot, but the french toast and scrambled eggs were no better. Imagine eating out where the entire topic of conversation at a table for 6 is making fun of the food and restaurant.
On Sundays, this meal is $35 per person. This is actually more expensive than brunch in any of the nice restaurants in town and you can have a lovely plate of fresh food in a nicer atmosphere. Tersiguel's, for example, will come out to about $25 per person for brunch.
I'd love to see Turf Valley revived, but for now, I'd avoid eating there. -

Worst place ever. We went there for dinner one night with a discount from the Entertainment Book. The service was horrible and the food was not edible. We asked for the check, paid and left two plates of uneaten food. Never again.

I cannot believe that anyone would rate this higher than one star. We decided to take my mother-in-law there for Sunday brunch for her birthday. While it was on the higher priced side for a brunch ($28.95), based on the menu online, we thought it would be worth it. If only they had pictures to go with their online menus!
We pulled in to an ugly exterior building that I couldn't believe people pay membership dues to use. The furniture was outdated and staff was scarce. But that's beside the point. As soon as we sat down, our table was set, but with dirty dishes. We should've known to run at that point. We got there at 12:30 and I was shocked at what was under each of the chaffing dishes.
-Country potatoes that were ok, but had a really bitter taste
-Eggs Benedict - only one left. They brought out more, but they were all overcooked and dry.
-French Toast - nothing special here. Looks even worse than stuff served in hospital cafeterias.
-The meat looked disgusting so we didn't even try it.
The "breads and pastries" only consisted of stale mini-bagels that you could toast on a rolling toaster that didn't work. My father in law tried the potato and leek soup and said it was ok, but it was REALLY underseasoned and needed a lot of salt. The salads were nothing fancier than what you would see at a church potluck. The prime rib was SUPER rare. My family orders meat medium-rare and all of the meat was borderline rare - raw was more like it. Plus, the guy running the carving station is the same guy running the eggs/omelet station, so it was a long wait for either. Dessert was ice cream, carrot cake and a blueberry pie. Sadly, the ice cream was the best part of the entire meal.
Probably what was most frustrating about the restaurant was the service. It's a no-brainer that at a buffet, the only job of waitstaff is to keep drinks coming, dirty dishes cleared and food available. I felt like the entire time we were there, I was always looking for our waiter. He'd bring coffee, but no cream. He'd bring water and spill it over us and then no napkin to clean it up. We had stacks of dirty dishes at the end of our table and he'd walk by without even addressing that they were there.
Bottom line is if you're thinking of going here, don't. If you must go, eat beforehand and don't feel the need to dress up. We were in business casual attire and felt REALLY overdressed with people sitting in jeans and t-shirts/sweatshirts sitting at all of the tables around us. What a waste of time and money. -

Ugh! If you come here for a conference, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for lunch. Even the hamburger, which is usually pretty hard to screw up, was unpleasant, and the vegetarian of the group picked listlessly at her veggie sandwich.
