Ducked in here for a no-wait brunch on a Sunday last month, with visiting family, while the 'usual suspects' around had 30+ minute waits.
We were NOT expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised!
Great omelettes, vegetarian options, light whole wheat French Toast, generous mimosas and friendly, quick, flawless service.
What's NOT to like?
We will be back, and fully intend to skip the "60-90 minute wait" locations around the corner! -

No huge complaints about Alexander's Tavern. I ordered the veggie burger on white instead of briche with tater tots and a coke. The veggie burger was house made and had a nice avocado sauce on top. Definitely tasty. I know it sounds dumb but the tots were tasty as well.
The main reason I went in was for $5 burger Monday. Sadly, I only found out the deal doesn't include the veggie burger so I had to pay around 11 bucks for my meal.
The waiter was attentive, but had the whole restaurant to himself. I might go back again, but I won't make any special trip of it. -

I love this joint.
I meet some of my friends here from time to time for lunch.
They have a mad mac and cheese, but I have ordered a variety of things from the menu and have always been more than pleased.
My only regret is that they aren't busier for lunch.
I would be sad if they closed for lack of business. -

Stopped by this spot today, it was empty when we stepped in around 2:30pm, so we werent so sure. After we opened up the menu - our first impressions were quickly erased. The menu had so many choices, all sounding great! We started off with the Charm City Mac - amazing, we split between 4 people, everyone loved it!
Onto main course, everyone tried something different - french dip, cheese steak, burger and shrimp tacos. Kudos all around - great choices, fresh, tasty, yum. Will definitely go back here.
Great choice of local/domestic beers on tap and in bottle. Our waitress was also very helpful and friendly. Next time Im going to try the Cubano! -

I've been here before, basically your typical tavern, but last week was the first time eating there.
This time I had bought the livingsocial deal for two microbrews, Maryland tots, and a gourmet pizza and couldn't be happier. Excellent selection on the beers, the Maryland tots were very rich but oh so delicious (tater tots topped with crab dip and cheese), and for the gourmet pizza we had the Buffalo Chicken, which was also very good.
I'd definitely come here again, especially if they re-run that deal!! -
Review from Bob L.
It's a rare thing that my wife and I venture out to Fells Point (the Broadway section, anyway) on the weekend. It's just not our scene. What lead us to venture to Alexander's Tavern you may ask? Well, it just so happened that we were wandering over to eat at the Red Star and when we arrived we were greeted by a sign on the door - closed for a private party. Ugh. We hadn't tried Alexander's yet so there ya go.
Located right in the midst of Fells Point and its college-like bar scene, Alexander's Tavern is situated in, what else, an old row house on Broadway. The interesting thing about this place is the way it's set up. There's a restaurant side and there's a bar side. In between the two is a brick wall. I've never seen a set up quite like this but, from what I could hear, I'm glad it was. During most of our dinner we could hear a pack of girls screaming along with whatever 80's song happened to be playing on the juke. If it was that loud on our side of the wall I can only imagine the eardrum blasting decibel level on the other. Anyway, I digress.
The dining area is pretty basic and probably has seating for about 40 patrons. The décor is brick walls with historic photos of popular Baltimore landmarks and the lighting is comfortably dim. We seated ourselves and were greeted almost immediately by our smiling server.
The Beer List:
Overall, Alexander's has a decent beer selection. Their draft list, while on the short side, features a diverse collection of craft offerings. On the night of our visit I was able to sample 21st Amendment Brewery's Fireside Chat (a spiced winter warmer) and Elysian Brewing Company's Bifrost Winter Ale (a hop-bomb of a strong ale). There are over 50 bottled beers to choose from and if you take the time to filter through the usual macro brews you'll turn up a few gems - Rogue Chipotle Ale, New Belgium Hoptoberfest to name a couple. If you're a beer geek like me you should be perfectly content.
The Food:
The menu at Alexender's is huge. If I remember correctly it was somewhere around 3 full pages. If you can't find something on here to eat you just don't want to eat. They've got paninis, gourmet pizzas, wraps, burgers, bar munchies...the list goes on and on.
Here's our experience:
Soft Pretzels
I am such a sucker for soft pretzels. There is just something so comforting about them and whenever I see them on a menu I have to try them. Alexander's does them proud. The pretzels appeared to be braided by hand and were cooked perfectly. Crispy and buttery outside, warm and chewy inside with just enough salt, the pretzels came with a side of pepper jack fondue and sliced granny smith apples. I've never seen pretzels served with apples but they worked. Dipping the apples in the cheese with the pretzels was brilliant. I could have made a meal out of them.
Seasonal Salad (I forgot the actual name)
This was Alexander's take on what is getting to be a pretty common salad - mixed greens, sliced green apples, cranberries, cheese, candied walnuts (at least I think I remember them) and vinaigrette. Sure it's a tad ubiquitous but it's grown to be one of my favorite combinations in a salad. The whole salty sweet crunchy thing is great for oral cavities with a touch of ADD and for a guy like me that never eats enough of the green stuff it sure helps it go down. The greens were fresh and the dressing was the perfect balance of acid and sweetness. A definite thumbs up on this one.
Turkey & Bacon Panini
Roasted turkey, white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, and chipotle mayo served on a grill-pressed ciabatta. We opted for the side of tots. This was one hell of a sandwich. The bread was grilled crispy, the turkey had just a hint of smoke and the chipotle mayo sported a kick that sidled up nicely behind the bacon crunch. The tots were as good as tots can get. Crispy, not greasy, served naked and unadulterated these tots were just like my childhood memories - only they actually tasted good.
Our dinner at Alexander's Tavern was a very pleasant surprise. We hadn't expected to eat there let alone have a great experience. From the friendly and attentive service to the tasty and satisfying comfort food my expectations were not only met, but exceeded on every level. I could have done without the obnoxious bar-supplied soundtrack, but the food was more than enough to distract me away from it. If you're looking for a historic locale (aren't they all?) that takes their food seriously you owe it to yourself to visit Alexander's. I'm off to have some naughty dreams about those pretzels now... -

This is one of my favorite places to go to in Fells to grab a quick bite. There food here is always solid and they offer some of the best tot dishes you can get in Baltimore, in my opinion of course. They are fried to a perfect crisp and then you can add your toppings. I enjoy the Texas Tots personally. The menu is fairly large so it sometimes is difficult to make your mind up as to what you want. They offer weekly specials that are usually pretty decent. One of my favorites was the Shepherd's Pie Egg Roles....yeah think about that one. Those fried morsels were tits. I also love their fish tacos and they come with a huge plate of toppings.
Now I would like to file my only complaint. We usually go during the week and the same waitress is there almost every weeknight and she is a sweetheart. She is definitely on top of things and provides superb customer service. Our most recent visit was on a Saturday for Brunch. The two waitresses that were present definitely did not have their ish together. I asked the server what they had on tap for beer week and she said and I quote, "Don't know, look at the menu." I was there the night before because I had a Loose Cannon. So again I asked, I see what is on the menu, what are your special beers on tap for Baltimore Beer Week? She got the message and finally went and looked. I just chose to go with a bloody mary instead. We ordered and it took over an hour to get our food. Now I am no Chef but I don't think it takes that long to cook tater tots and eggs. That was very frustrating.
I will continue to go to Alexander's during the week to get great food AND great service.
It pains me to give them 3 stars because I enjoy coming to this location and I really like their food...hopefully next time I can amend my review. -

I really like this place. It's not noisy, you can hold a conversation and enjoy a good beer.
But above all else, they have excellent Tots! I love the Maryland Tots, they are covered with crab dip and delicious. My wife liked the Sweet Potato Tots. -
Review from Jenny H.
We came here for Saturday brunch because the last time I came here, I remembered the pancakes being delicious.
I ordered the pancakes again though and they were decent but nothing extraordinary. I think butter makes all the difference, and I thought they served whipped butter, but it was just the ordinary pats of butter wrapped in foil. The best thing here was their home fries seasoned with old bay, but even those weren't that great. Their Al's bowl with tater tots, scrambled eggs, chopped up bacon and cheese was good, but tasted exactly how you would think it would taste- after several bites, it's like eating an entire bowl of French fries for breakfast! The French toast was OK, not great, and my friend who ordered the crab benefit thought it was just OK (they don't give you a lot of crab meat).1 Previous Review: Show all »

UGH. I have heard so many great things about this place. What a disappointment it was.
I came here with a group of friends for Sunday brunch. The servers were all very nice and helpful. The issue with that is it is the type of place where everyone waits on you. We would order rounds of drinks and they came out at completely random times. Never good.
Now - the worst part. The crab mac and cheese sounded SO good. 3 of us got it. Our meals came (also scattered, time-wise) and I took a bite of my mac and cheese. It was cold. So were the other 2 orders at my table. We asked if it was supposed to be that way, and it wasn't. (It's an odd thing to mess up...) The lady sitting at the table next to us had the same issue. Even when it was brought back out (warm), it was just okay - barely ANY crab. I also tried the breakfast pizza and was not overly impressed.
The mimosas were good and the prices are decent.
Won't come running back. -

Great choices fit for hung over foodies and friendly service abounds here!
We stopped in here after perusing the Fell's Point Flea Market and were not disappointed!
I had a special frittata which had sausage, new potatoes, artichokes and goat cheese drizzled lightly with hollandaise sauce. So delicious!
M had a Sausage and cheddar omelette and we partook of the house special Tater Tots. They have brunch specials so of course, there are drink specials on bloody marys, mimosas and the old standard, screwdrivers.
They have a lobster hash that I will definitely try on my next trip to Fell's Point. The service was very good for a busy Sunday and we didn't have to wait long to be seated.
Go eat, drink and have fun! -

Brunch at Alexander's Tavern is seriously as good as it gets. Considering that I have literally ate at every brunch place in the Greater Philadelphia Metro area, I feel I can make this statement with a certain gravitas. and let me tell you, Alexandre's is as good as any place I go to in Philly.
The menu itself is standout. It has a number of interesting, daring dishes. The smothered tots (tots smothered in cream chipped beef) were my choice, and I chose well. Salty, crunchy, creamy and wonderful. My friends got the steak benedict and crab cake benedict, and both were winners.
I really liked the atmosphere here, and it was very light inside and unassuming. Simply a plant on the table. the servers were courteous and kind. Unlike Philly, the emphasis was often on the dishes instead of the decor. I really appreciated that.
Fell's Point in Balti is a special spot, and Alexandre's is a great joint. -

Do you like tots and a good time? Come here, located in historic Fells Point. It has a great atmosphere and great food. I haven't tried all the tots but the Maryland tots are good choice any time. Good selection of local Baltimore brews. Try the three little pigs gourmet pizza.

We decided to go to this bar because we heard that they have shuffle board, which they do, but the table is really messed up. There are scuffs and areas where the wax is completely worn off. And they dont have a bottle of salt to try to even it out, so its very difficult to play a proper game. BUT it is free, so you get what you get.
It looks like a fun place to hang out upstairs when there isnt a game on, because I saw a Guitar Hero set out of the corner of my eye. There was also a dart board upstairs.
If you like vodka, I recommend the infused vodka. Its different every few days, but the mixed berry martini I had was perfect.
The food was really good. I had the tuna tacos and was so disappointed that I was too full to eat all 3. The pulled pork my boyfriend had was also very good.
The bartenders were nice, as was our server on the restaurant side. We sat on the walkway, which was nice because of the mild weather that night. The only downfall is all of the homeless people. Thats not the bars fault though. It seems like Baltimore is going through some rough times. If youre looking for a transient free zone, Id recommend the inner harbor/power plant live. It doesnt have the downtown character and its mostly expensive chains, but its more upscale. -

Texas tots= Tater tots with bacon, cheese, and ranch dressing= awesome.
Three stars, because the rest of the meal was just ok, since I don't really remember what we had and I wasn't even hungover or anything. But those tots were phenomenal. -

I absolutely love coming to this place for happy hour! The specials are great and the $3 happy hour food menu is phenomenal (tots, quesadillas, tuna, nachos, etc.). I really like the pizza, and during happy hour pizzas are $2 off.
Upstairs you can throw darts, play shuffle board, or you can even play beer pong!! Service is always quick and friendly, a major plus in my book.
Every time I come here for happy hour I end up staying much longer, it's just that great. And if I actually do decide to try another place after happy hour there are many other great spots nearby. Alexanders is the package: great specials, friendly service, convenient location. -

Seattle, WA
This place has three different venues in one - a small (relatively bare and bland) dining room, a cute sidewalk set of tables, and an awesome wood paneled bar adjacent to the restaurant. The bar has a free shuffleboard upstairs, which earns Alexander's points from me. The bar has an absolutely delicious pineapple-cherry marinated vodka that is a must try.
The kitchen serves a wide array of tasty food. The Texas tots are a must try (tots with cheese, bacon, and ranch - yum). The entire menu is very appealing - lots of tasty sandwiches, pizza (with crazy yummy flavors like mac and cheese with bacon and jalepenos, and thai chicken that uses a peanut sauce in lieu of marinara), sliders, and tacos.
Nothing special, but solid and great for what it is. -

Kissimmee, FL
Had the Maryland Tots and let me say, if the review were based on that alone, it would be a 4 pushing 5 star review. The servers were friendly and attentive and were able to transfer my tab upstairs without any glitches. The upstairs bartender gave us free reign of the TV and I was even able to use my Yelp check-in to get a $3 dollar draft.
The main reason I go 3 on this place is because the bar is very narrow, both up and down, and feels dirty. I suppose that's par for the course in Fells Point, but atmosphere is a big thing for me so feeling cramped and dirty cramps my style! If you aren't deterred by tight spaces you'll like this place for sure. -

Seems to somehow be the baby-friendly dining spot in Fell's Point.. We walked in to a table of grandma with two 18-year-old looking girls and each girl had 2 babies each! Magnify the noise level of one 2-year-old times 4!
The menu had two vegetarian options - veggie burger and pesto sandwich. I ordered the former and a friend ordered the latter so I got to eat both!
Their veggie burger is quite unique - almost tasted like cottage cheese in there!
The pesto sandwich was, umm, too pesto-y?
Service was fine. But when yet another family walked in the back door with strollers, we knew it was time to leave... -

Went here on Baltimore Beer Week for the Flying Dog Special. Bar was active, but not so much I couldn't get seated. Servers and bartender very friendly and helpful. Had the veggie burger and sweet potato tater tots, which was pretty good. If I wanted bar food, I would come here. But for just a random dinner, I would be too tempted to go a few doors down to the awesome Sticky Rice.

I don't want to talk too much smack about Alexander's, because I'm friends with someone who worked there, but I never liked the place. It was utterly lacking in charm and character. The food was really boring and not very good, in a neighborhood full of bars that serve good food.
The staff were always nice, but that didn't make up for the Todd Connor prices with White Castle quality food and Pazo priced drinks. -

The tater tots with cheese and bacon are unreal.
Great selection of beer, and I love the narrow part because its a convenient way to start a conversation...

Looking through my photos, I stumbled upon some shots I took while at Alexander's Tavern for brunch one sunny Sunday... and realized that I'd not reviewed the place yet!
Brunch. was. delicious.
I couldn't find the item I had on their menu, but after reading katie d.'s review it looks like I got the Crab Melt -- amazing. Boyfriend had the Chesapeake Benedict, which he loved.
Service was friendly and efficient... you bet your ass I'll be back.Listed in: Baller Balmer

Sweet Jesus I had a good time here. While that might be in part due to my fantastic friends who hosted an open bar in the private room upstairs, I will say that I'd happily return to Alexander's when I'm back in Baltimore.
Downstairs was pretty empty around 10pm on a Saturday night, and considering I didn't make my way back downstairs until 3am or so, I have no idea if it ever got crowded. The upstairs private room was incredible: a small but well stocked bar, shuffleboard table, foosball, and the piece de resistance: a large flat screen with Wii attached, including Guitar Hero. Oh happy day.
While most of my time was spent with guitar in hand or kicking ass at bowling, I *somehow* managed to get my fair share of drinking in. Good assortment of beers on tap: the Hefewizen treated me well. The shots were also tasty and, um, well sized. I munched on a bit of "gourmet" popcorn as well that was supremely addictive, as all good popcorn should be.
Every staff member that I encountered was incredibly friendly... dare I say, jovial? And although Julie H. and I did not see The Wire-like grit that we were hoping for on our trip to Baltimore, I'm still impressed with the city's offerings in terms of good, clean, drunken fun. -

This menu has such potential. Unfortunately the kitchen did not deliver last night. Like many earlier reviewers said....the food was cold. 3 things were ordered, Cheesy Tots, Veggie Wings & Mussels. Tots and Mussels arrived cold with the freezer burnt wings checkin' in at luke warm. Mind you, it also took 30+ minutes for the food to come out.
The tots sat so long that the cheese had hardened; although the plating was nice....cold food killed it. Even the warm tots in the middle, sans cheese, couldn't save this dish.
Mussels served cold to the touch with slightly warm broth? How long did my food sit? I returned the crustiatians and declined the offer to have them re-made. My stomach couldn't handle the thought of cold seafood.....unless they served ceviche.
The veggie wings were Ms. T's freezer burnt perogies smothered in a canned Thai peanut sauce. Again, something that sounded good but came outta da kitchen as a failure. I was told that they might not have been freezer burnt but rather nuked, causing the hard n' chewy edges. Either way, boo!
Jack 'n cokes @ 6 bucks too during what they were calling happy hour, how rude!
We happened into this place by looking up which bars had a Golden Tee machine. That happened to be the best part about this place. Maybe when they get a new cook and perhaps someone with an inkling of timing.....I'll return. -

I sat at the bar with a few friends last weekend. One ordered the salmon sliders, i didn't try them - but i did sneak a few tator tots and dipped them in that amazing wasabi sauce that comes with the sliders - INCREDIBLE!
I forgot all about tator tots.. brought back fun memories!
The bartenders were great too! -

3.5 stars.
Exposed brick walls, scarlet ceiling, and gleaming bamboo floors. Simple espresso-stained tables and chairs, with a somewhat awkward table arrangement (the place is a renovated rowhouse). Friendly, fun servers and good meal pacing. Laid back atmosphere. Pleasant when the door is open on a cool, sunny afternoon.
A place to order delicious appetizers (including buffalo shrimp and tots loaded with mounds of crab dip), sandwiches (paninis, cheesesteaks, vegetarian), and sliders (burgers, chicken parmesan, and ahi tuna). Avoid the pizzas, and be sure to order your crispy fry straws with Old Bay. Numerous Dogfish and Flying Dog brews on tap, with a lovely selection of bottled beer. Overall, a good bet for a casual bite. -
Review from Gerry S.
AT has a small, comfortable interior with a casual vibe. I think it's a step more attractive and put-together inside than your usual Fells Point establishment, especially one with "Tavern" in the name.
I had the Maryland Tots for lunch today (thank you, Foursquare). Very nice. This is a big plate of cheesy, gooey, fried potato sin (the second half of which I just realized I left in a box on the table, dammit!). I got through half of it before ordering a house salad to assuage my conscience. I'll definitely be back for more.
One last note: They served an excellent glass of iced tea. There's LOTS of places - far fancier places, I'll add - that can't seem to do that. Kudos. -

Our server, Omar, was cool and friendly and attentive. The ambiance and overall vibe of the place was inviting, cozy, and comfortable.
They Maryland tots were really great. They were crispy and cheesy and crabby in all the right places. Easily the best tots I've had. And I've had some tots.
I was feeling vegetarian so I had a pesto tomato mozz panini that was on the weekly specials menu. It was very good! They had all sorts of wild beers on their list that my companions sampled. One of them was called "Bawl-merr" and was a local Baltimore beer made by a homebrewer I believe. -

I had the Steak Caesar Club $9- marinated flank steak with tomato, lettuce, applewood smoked bacon and Caesar dressing( I add cheese for $1 more). The flavors were very nice and the dressing wasn't over powering. The fries are the skinniest shoe string fries I have ever seen and reminded me of those Andy Capp's Fries but 10 times better! The male in our party had the of the daily special pannis. The other female in the out party had the Cheese steak on French Bread. We each tired a different seasoning on our fries: House and Old Bay.
The food was tasty and well prepared. The service for the most part was average- when we did want our check it did take some time. the atmosphere is very inviting and the bar is very roomy. I will go back again. Check out the website because they have numerous specials everyday! -

Silver Spring, MD
A locals bar & restaurant, Alexander's Tavern, which initially struggled on the food front, has slowly crept into the hearts of the Fells Point crowd and now--a year in--has formed a strong following. AT caters to a diverse audience in many aspects, including five options of where to rest one's bottom: there's outdoor street-side seating, bar seating (upstairs and down), and dining room seating (first and second floors).
AT serves weekend brunch until ~3 pm as well as daily lunch and dinner, frequently offering a rotating array of popular specials such as Tuesday's $1 tacos with half-price beef quesadillas and margarita specials (which, sadly, were poorly mixed when I tried them) in adition to other weekday bargains. Their pizzas are diverse and delicious--try the Buffalo (blue cheese, mozzarella, chicken), the flavorfull portabello mushroom with chicken, or the exotic Thai individual-sized pie. The pulled pork, paninis, and a multitude of sandwiches are typicaly great but can be hit-or-miss; the wings tend to be a hit. One can't go wrong with the "tots"--bite-sized fried potato spheres--that are amazing with or without the optional cheese-and-bacon topping. Surprisingly, the creme brulee is expertly creamy and topped with a perfect caramelized crust.
For additional entertainment to food and drink, the upstairs overflow bar has Guitar Hero, Wii, shuffle board, and a dart board. Bar trivia (~8:30 - 10:30 pm) crowds the upstairs on Wednesdays and presents the chance of winning a $50 gift certificate to AT.
Note that a weekend visit to AT often requires side ways squeezing through to the back as the first floor entrance to the bar (as contrasted to the spacious dining room) is reminiscent of a long and narrow sausage. Having said that, my main--and largely only--point of significant discontent is their much lacking wine selection, which was tragically reduced from a pleasant variety when the place initially opened. Pretty please, bring back the diversity of wines by the glass! -

The food here was pretty good. I got a cheeseburger, and my boyfriend got the macaroni and cheese pizza. I expected his pizza to be disgusting, but it was actually tasty! The food is not great enough for me to come back here on a regular basis, though. The atmosphere is bland and lacking any real charm or originality. Also people kept making horrible music choices on the jukebox and it made me cranky, haha.

My husband and I stopped by for Taco Tuesday (happy hour special) and were extremely pleased. You can't beat $1 tacos, half price quesadillas, and cheap margaritas. On top of that, my chili quesadillas were extremely tasty (I'd even venture to say the best I've had). Hubby was able to get full on just 4 tacos. They only make margs on the rocks (not frozen), but that was fine since it was what we wanted anyway. We sat outside and people watched, which was delightful. Our server (Shay? Shae?) stopped by every 10 min or so to refill drinks and make sure everything was OK. Couldn't ask for anything more! We'll be back.

We stumbled upon this place while wandering around the waterfront area. Dinner was a great value - $10 crab cake with two sides. It was a good crab cake, and you can't beat that price. They also had a coupon if you checked in on Yelp, so that was another bonus. Nice outdoor seating allows for fun people watching too.
