It's hard for a steakhouse this expensive to get 5 stars, but Alexanders deserves it!  So much better then its local competitors.

I had the dry-aged porterhouse and it was the best piece of meat that I have had.  Everything else was great - especially the truffle french fries!  Service was perfect.  Manhattans were awesome.

This is my new favorite high-end steakhouse. You can have an intimate dinner party for a chef's tasting in the kitchen or a casual or business dinner in the main dining room. This is located at the new Cupertino Square (although since I am a local I will always refer to it at Vallco). They have a brilliant selection of high end and very high quality steaks, fish and otherwise. This however is not a quick meal type of place, you want to enjoy the restaurants atmosphere, have a cocktail, choose from the cigar collection for an after dinner smoke or to revel in their beautiful desserts.
Now an old stand-by for my husband and I for a great meal!

The Food at Alexander's is unbelievable, it's awesome, it's tasty, and it's expensive. It was the best steak place I have been to .. I will admit, I don't go to too many, but that's besides the point. For the price tag, I expected the service to be quicker and more accommodating.

I had the Dry Aged T-Bone which I totally loved, but unfortunately couldn't finish because I stuffed myself with the side dishes before it would come.  I am sorry to say, I am not a huge fan of the truffle stuffed fries and corn ... I was really looking forward to them and was dissapointed. I loved the Mac & Cheese & Lobster, that was good. :)

All in all, I want to give this place 3.5 stars. I always round up because I assume these places are having an off night. One of the servers was new and when introducing the wine and food messed up. But he seemed new and was trying, so I won't hold it against him.

We got lots of dessert:

The awesome ones were:
Barrel of Monkeys
Velvet Ropes

The bad dessert was:
Ooh!

Pros:
-Great Streak
-Nice Atmosphere (inside)
-Great Dessert

Cons:
-Slow service
-Missed one order I wanted.

Nothing but a 5 ***** star rating !

I went here for my Anniversary last night and what an amazing meal and experience. I love meals that you can still taste in your mouth during your drive home. Yummy !

We were asked if we were celebrating anything special and since we replied "yes" there came the complimentary sparkling wine two minutes later. What a nice way to start off the meal and feel special.

We started off with two lobster shots and ceaser salads. The lobster shots went down like butta and the parmesan cheese on the salads was so light and fluffy that if you were to sneeze, the whole pile of freshly grated parmesan cheese would be scattered all over your table.

Ordered a nice bottle of 2006 Ben Marco Malbec to accompany our meal. 33% markup...but who cares ! They have a very extensive wine list, a bit pricey but you can find a bottle under $50.00.

The bread basket variety is nice and I especially liked the thin cheese wafers the best. Then came another complimentary taster...Ahi Tuna Tartar with a Chimichuri sauce. Yummy !

I had the 6oz Filet Mignon for dinner and my other half had a dry aged t-bone. Both Fantastic  ! ! ! !  The glazes on both really added the breadth of flavor that both cuts of meat deserved. We choose to have the truffle oil mac n cheese & the creamed spinach for our sides. Both excellent choices.

The service here is perfection !  You feel special from the moment you walk in the door.

Since we were celebrating our anniversary they presented us with a small piece of cake on a plate that had a greeting written in chocolate with a candle ...very cute and nice icing to top of the evening.

Oh wait...there's more....

Pina Colada Cotton Candy !

Was on a work trip in the Bay.  At the suggestion of one of my really good friends, we visited Alexander's.  If you can afford steep pricing... Go visit!!!  This place is really good.  It's at the very top of the spectrum as far as restaurants go, so it's one of those places you want to bring your best in looks, attitude, and etiquette.

My friend and I simply opted for the chef's tasting menu, a bottle of sake, and a few bottles of Pellegrino.  All in for two with gratuity, the meal came out to about $550.

So again, obviously pricey, but I think the world of this place.  Our server was awesome.  She guided us through the tasting menu, explained in detail exactly what we were about to eat as each course came out.  The sake selection was her recommendation, which was phenomenal.  And she and another waiter were always there serving us without any prompt.

Just an unbelievable experience.  The food of course was perfect.  Every course that came out was just great.   I know among foodies, rare beef is not something that really makes them flinch, but I still have a tough time with it.  My friend did too.

So when some beef tartare came out... We started getting nervous, then had a good laugh.   Counted to three, and we both put the tartare in our mouths.  We were so surprised.  You could have put a pound of tartare in front of us that night and we would've downed it.  It was that good.

I love this place.  But I'm taking one star off simply for price.  $275 per person for one meal... That IS a lot of money.  Now that we're off the dot com boom and the mortgage meltdown is crimping everyone's access to easy money... We are getting back to reality about what the dollar is worth.

Again though, the food is spectacular and so is the experience.  I definitely want to go again and again.

The World According to Noelle
~Allergic Girl's Guide to Life~
Issue 99

What could be the perfect ending to an extremely busy and exhausting work week? The answer would be a Friday night dinner at Alexander's. My friend the dentist made the reservations through Open Table. I called later in the week to request a "Quiet Table". Upon entering one will notice the meats displayed in the cases on the left. Greeted by smiles and friendly people at the host desk this was the beginning of a wonderful evening. We were led through the busy dining room into a smaller more quiet dining room to our "Quiet Table". Our waiter greeted us with our menus. There was polite conversation between the us and our waiter. The waiter took note of all my food allergies.

Yum-Oh:
Bread Basket (Sourdough, Flat Bread, Brown Bread with Nuts).
Edamame
Melange A Trois
Bone In Dry Aged New York
Mashed Potatoes
White Truffle French Fries

Sweet Endings:
Lime Flavored Cotton Candy
White Dragon Pearls
24 Karats
Blush

We throughly enjoyed our meal. Satisfying and good size portions. I had a taste of his steak and it was delicious. My Melange A Trois was wonderful with the Braised Short Ribs and Brie En Cocotte being the "Rock Star" of the "Trois" something that delicious should be illegal. Melange A Trois was beautifully presented in three separate sections- the Bavette of Beef with green olives in the larger section, in a small square dish the Prime Rib with the "Rock Star" of the "Trois" aka the Braised Short Ribs and Brie En Cocotte featured in a small black Le Creuset pot.

I confess I'm a water snob. I love good tasting water- be it bottled or tap. I ordered the sparkling water. It was VOSS. I've never had VOSS before. As far as sparkling water goes VOSS is in the Fancy Water Hall of Shame. VOSS just looks pretty in its sleek design but next time I will have to pass. S. Pellegrino is still by far my favorite sparkling water. If you're not a water snob no worries- they have excellent tasting tap water, I tried it too : )

Impeccable food and service at Alexander's Steakhouse- fine dining at its best. The wait staff was extremely wonderful and so was the Valet.

Alexander's is a great place for:
Birthday Parties
Anniversary Celebrations
Business Dinners
Just Because

His choice of the Blush for dessert was amazing- Mango Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit Sorbet and Honey Gelee with one bite I was in love. I LOVE chocolate and its rather rare for me to fall in love with a non-chocolate dessert. He was sweet enough to share but after two bites I politely declined anymore. I read other reviews on the 24 Karats, that is the only reason I ordered the dessert. 24 Karats is Tempura Carrot Cake with Citrus Syrup and Cream Cheese Ice Cream- it was good but not great. Blush was the "Old Hollywood Glam Movie Star" that stole the dessert award, my taste-buds and quite possibly my heart.

They have an impressive list of:
Wines
Dessert Wines
Cigars
Tea

I opted for the tea. I picked the White Dragon Pearls. Here is the exact description as written on the menu:

White Dragon Pearls:
Gently plucked, tender green tea leaves rolled with the most fragrant jasmine blossoms into large white pearls twice as large as most jasmine pearls. In Chinese mythology, dragons chase only the largest, most lustrous pearls.

Yes, the tea did taste as beautiful as the description.

Dining with me is difficult because of my allergies. Where does one take a girl that has been lucky enough to survive anaphylactic shock twice in her life? Alexander's was a great choice. I loved how the service was attentive without being intrusive. We enjoyed a leisurely almost three hour dining experience. Tonight was filled with delicious food, wonderful company- what more could a girl ask for as end to a busy week?

Noelle's Notes:
Deliciously Decadent Dining Experience. Not as expensive as one would think as I paid for my own meal and dessert totaling with tip to a little over $110. I've heard of people splitting steaks because they cannot afford to eat here- save your money and you can! When I was there I didn't see anyone SPLITTING A STEAK.

Noelle's Post Secret:
I still LOVE the Met in Seattle!

The food here is amazing. This place came out of nowhere and got plopped it what can only be described as a "poison zone for commercial business." Vallco is basically the black hole for flourishing commercialism, but now thanks to the AMC and long range development plans it is on the rise...

Alexander's, however, has been surviving this drought on its own despite the painfully low odds. The food is always on key and usually even impresses the pickiest of diners. I have had the pleasure of trying both the Kobe beef steak and the Kobe beef burger. Though they are both extremely expensive they are both delightfully delicious. The other steaks I have had there have always been cooked to perfection as well. This is one of the best steakhouses I have ever been to and would recommend it to anyone.

Great food. My favorites, beside the steaks, are:

- hamachi shots
- mac n cheese
- truffle french fries
- cotton candy (flavors vary)
- lemonade (soo good!)

Great Service. All the time and doesn't feel snobby even though it's upscale. I don't want to sound repetitive so I concur with all the 4/5 star reviewers. =)

I heard their chocolate souffle was awesome. I have yet to eat dessert here as I"ve been too full and the cotton candy usually satisfies at the end of the meal, but I heard the chocolate souffle was awesome. Gotta come back and try it.

I really wanted this place to be a five star, it has the makings of a five star that's for sure. But no...

I don't like how I was treated AT ALL, from the moment  I declined their fancy pants water and "went for" tap, well I was snubbed for some ballers who anti-ed up for the special "Fiji" water...gawd what would our tab have been with that? I almost laughed my ass off when our waitress tried to tell us how much different and flavorful the Fiji was, that it tasted so pure and refreshing!! She looked ridickerous!

$300 w/tip for 2 people!  With only 2 drinks each! (1 martini, one glass of pinot noir)!

Would I go here again? YES for the MEAT ONLY! Everything was drowning in butter and salt, or WAY to rish!

Porterhouse (5 stars) was the best if you scrape the truffle butter off!
Fillet Mignon (5 stars)and Prawns (2 stars)aka Surf & Turf

Fillet was EXCELLENT, Prawns SUCKED, way to salty and overcooked as well as hard to peel off the shell, forcing me to use my fingers at this fancy pants place.

Truffle fries (2 stars): OVER SALTED
Kiffer Lime Corn(2 stars): DROWNING in butter and salt!
Creamed Spinach (MINUS 5 stars) Disgusting/inedible (and I LOVE creamed spinach)
Lobster Shot Appetizer (3 stars) Meh..just ok
Hamichi Shot Appetizer (3 stars)- Spicy and OK
Crab Puff Appetizer (3stars) rich and light good but not like OMG good
Pear Martini (ZERO stars) Horrible drink, WAY too sweet and strange flavor

Amuse Buse (4 stars) Freebie from the chef??? Yeah right FREE???ahahahahahahahaha at $58 bucks for my steak??? a free bite from the chef...ahahahaha
(OH so that's why they call it amuse buse it's amus-ing)

Slushy pallate cleanser (5 stars) my favorite next to the steak! (more slushy please)
Grape Cotton Candy (5 stars if dipped in the pinot noir)
WARNING: TRUFFLE ABUSE HERE!

The service here was cool at first then it took HOURS for us to get on with it, we were there from 6:15-9:15!

Service here really sucks! I appreciate the cow town schooling, but bring me my food in a timely manner dammit!

That reminds me....Hey Brandon I need you to come back here with me!

I think I have a few cavities from all the sugar spun goodness of the after-dinner cotton candies... watermelon flavor, anyone?
I've been looking forward to this meal for quite some time, and though I held back from ordering the wagyu steak I was still impressed by the 20 oz. prime rib and 2 lb. rib eye that I shared with two other people and still unsuccessfully finished. Happily bloated to the max, I have to say my favorite was the rib eye, cooked perfectly in medium rare with a gracious lean toward the rare, covered in what seemed to be a bbq demi glace sauce and a few sour smart cherry tomatoes, yum.
The prime rib was also excellent, well cooked and well seasoned; however, I think perhaps I just prefer the rib eye cut or the fact was that I felt it was a bit too seasoned, and I preferred the style and flavor of say House of Prime Rib versus the gratuitous salt rind of Alexander's. Flavorful, yes--but a mouthful of a piece plus crust left me wanting some high fructose soda to balance it out.
The sides were great though perhaps not amazing. Crimini mushrooms are hard to mess up, and adding truffle oil to mac and cheese seems excessive and a poor choice to use something as expensive as truffle oil (though it did come out great). I did enjoy the oil's usage on the fries, which I think weighed out as my favorite side. The mushrooms I felt were necessary to give some sort of plant-like presence to the very heavy carnivore paradise at our table.
Crab poppers were delicious as well but I think if I had to do it all again... I would have ordered a small salad, the mushrooms, maybe a lemonade or some wine, and nothing else.
I went for a medium-sized birthday dinner, so it's hard for me to say if the service was par excellence because of the number of people at our table, or if they genuinely perform this always, but it went up and beyond the call of duty (perhaps a primal need to impress the ladies?). Attentive, personable and no pressure to order anything ridiculous beyond our means.
Had a great time, would come again for sure.

Excellent food, nice menu, pricey (spent $270 last night), a bit noisy (but not bad) in their open dining room, staff was friendly and helpful and not only provided details of the dishes but provided some suggestions and explanations. Note that menu and prices may be different than what you see online.

Highlights for me was the pork back with escargot appetizer (forget the name), and the "Ooh!" dessert which had a black olive ice cream. Wow, very nice and surprising. Chicken entree was a bit dry and the little bit of balsamic vinegar drizzled on the plate just didn't go with the entree. Wife got the wagyu/holstein cross-breed filet mignon, which was amazing. I am not a big fan of wagyu (I like my meat lean) but this is wonderful stuff.

I really rate this 4.5 stars, it's nice to have high-end dining in the south bay, now if only their dining room provided a little more of a "steak house" experience with nice booths and some quiet rather than the noisy, open dining room filled with folks there to "be seen". We'll return, but likely for special occasion, given the prices. Oh, and they could use a bigger bar (they could remodel the building to add on quite a lot of space.)

For Alexander's Steak house review #411, I give it 4 stars. Just came back from it after a company paid dinner and it was delicious.

I had the NY Steak. Huge portion and one of the most tender and flavored NY Steaks I've ever had. To complement the the steak, we had Hors d'oeuvre that were of Filet Mignon and a savory potato and crab roll. The potato crab roll was crunchy on the outside, yummy on the inside. The dinner also had a potato soup and a 3 course dessert. They even serve expensive Fuji water here too - although, I couldn't taste the difference.

The main reason it only got 4 stars is that I ordered a medium cooked steak, and it came in closer to medium rare and that the NY Steak was bone-in. Other than that, it was close to perfect.

If I could ever afford it (This place is seriously $$$$+), I'd would definitely come back and enjoy one of the nicest steakhouses around.

Oh. My. Gawd.

This Fancy Shmancy Steakhouse serves COTTON CANDY.

But I shall get to that in a sec.

I went here with my man for a romantic dinner. Simply BEAUTIFUL inside! As you walk in, you see slabs of meat and a display of all the cuts that they have. It sure made us hungry! So we sit down, order some drinks and when they found out it was our anniversary, I felt like royalty! Champagne on the house, a little free dessert and even a special Tuna Tartar with Watermelon foam compliments from the Chef. All of it was DELICIOUS!

So, I ordered, the Dry Aged Porterhouse28 oz.. while my boyfriend ordered the 2lb Bone-In Certified Angus Beef Ribeye. For sides, We both wanted to get the Baked Potatoes, but since they were out, He got the Mashed Potatoes and the server recommended that I get the White Truffle French Fries. Now...I really DIDN'T want french fries. I have french fries all the time from McDonalds and Jack in the Box and I wanted something nicer. And trust me...those baked potatoes looked fuggin GOOOOOOOOD. So I agreed...fine...gimme the fries.

The food took about 30 - 40 minutes to get since the 2lb. takes longer to cook. We were, of course, told this when we ordered so we just got tipsy off our free champagne and waited for that food. While waiting, my date and I kept looking around because the waiters kept carrying around COTTON CANDY. This wasn't your average Blue Raspberry/Cherry Cotton Candy...this was supposed to be some nice "gourmet" flavors, you know? All I can say is that we were excited. Dessert? Please. Free Cotton Candy...yes...yes, please.

So back to the food. The food was BEAUTIFUL when it arrived! PERFECTLY cooked Medium Rare steaks, tender, juicy, melt in your mouth and DELICIOUSLY SEASONED. Oh holy Jeeeesus. The seasoning, sauce and the butter for the steaks were just...amazing. Totally amazing. The Mashed Potatoes were CREAMY and DELICIOUS....

But the fries...

Holy S***... those fries. I may not have wanted them earlier...but after ONE bite of these fries, I wanted to Super Size them. Once again. The seasoning on the Fries was INCREDIBLE. I kept eating them even after I felt like I was going to explode.

SO finally... after dinner...WE GOT THE COTTON CANDY! It turns out that they have a different flavor every week or something. That week was lemon...but it wasn't gross. It was a nice delicate lemon flavor that made me crave more! I thought it was a cute and creative touch to a nice place like Alexander's. The staff was incredibly nice, very accomodating and the food was AMAZING. My compliments to the chef indeed!!!! And to make things even more amazing, for those two steaks, the two sides and two sodas (oh so classy!) WITH Tip, it came out to BARELY $200. You can't beat that!!!
Next time... I'm trying those Shooters that everyone is raving about. And of course...the cotton candy!

And I guess the steak too...if I MUST ;D

Ok its almost bed time so I'll make this quick -

Me:  24 oz dry aged T-Bone.  Unbelievably good.  They cooked it and seasoned it to perfection.  This was the best steak I have ever had.

Girlfriend:  Prime Rib.  She said it was just ok...so stick to the steak here.

Sides:  Mac and Cheese.  Very fatty and had a funky taste to it.  I prefer the mac and cheese out of a box.  Baked Potato:  Great!  Its hard to mess this up though.

Service:  Top notch until the last part of our stay when the waiter went M.I.A.  This is why I dropped it down to 4 stars.

Conclusion:  This is the go-to place to impress someone and I shall return.

I've been here twice now, both for special occassions.  The first time I had the Omakase tasting menu and it was awesome.  All the dishes are prepared nicely and the waiter takes time to describe each dish.  I felt like I was on Top Chef.  Since it is the chef's choice I do not think they make the same thing everytime.  Some ones that stood out were the sous-vide salmon, dry aged angus beef with foie gras, and the kobe.

The 2nd time I got the dry aged 28oz. Porterhouse steak.  It was very nicely seasoned.

Besides the good food, I was also impressed with the great service I received.  The staff was very helpful and friendly and made the dining experience even better.

Oh, and like others said you get cotton candy at the end of your meal.  The server told me that they have about 15 different flavors.  I've had the fruit punch and grape flavors.

Gotta say I'm impressed...

I've driven by Alexander's more than I can count as wifey likes to satisfy her Taiwanese food cravings at nearby Cupertino Square.  Didn't know much about it and figured it was on the same level as Outback... silly me.

Finally decided to check it out as the stars seemed to align in our favor:

- Weekend with nothing to do... check.
- Humongous appetite... check.
- A reason to get out of the dreary fog in SF... maybe???

Wifey was skeptical when I suggested we have dinner at Alexander's, followed by a movie next door at the cineplex.  She was hoping for something more romantic until I reminded her that we're married and might as well be dead... Believe me, that joke didn't go over too well.

Luckily for me, Alexander's turned out to be a pretty slick place.  Not at all what I expected to find in the middle of Cupertino next to the Valco mall.  It's an upscale place, but doesn't give off that stuffy vibe like other establishments.

I was pretty impressed with the menu.  Sure it's a steakhouse, but Alexander's carries some pretty intriguing cuts from around the world.  They not only carried the standard "Kobe" beef, but Wagyu cuts from several prefectures throughout Japan.  They even carried a pricey Australian Wagyu that night which they dubbed "Better than Prime".

Servers were gracious and knowledgeable.  Ours was better than a goddamned used car salesman as he managed to convince me to order the "NY strip sampler" that night:  a trio of 2 oz. portions of Alexander's US Prime wet-aged, Australian Wagyu, and Japanese Kobe.  The man had a silver tongue, throwing phrases like "only for a limited time!", and "this is a rare opportunity to sample..."  I was helpless.  I suppose I said yes, although I don't remember the exact moment because my head was cloudy from the heavanly aroma of seared protein.  What brought me back to earth was when our server told me that the sampler would cost me $145 buckaroos... shit.

At that point, my expectations were through the roof.
Fortunately, Alexander's delivered.

My sampler was outta this world.  I've had Japanese Kobe before, so it was nice to compare its flavor with counterparts from throughout the globe.  Such fatty goodness should be illegal.

Wifey had the Melange a trois: Alexander's wet-aged strip with gorgonzola, a portion of prime rib, and their signature braised short rib in a pastry shell.  Gotta say that was pretty damned good too.

We had sides of creamed spinach (tasty) and a morel/asparagus risotto which was our only disappointment of the night.

Wifey and I looked around the room and only saw happy, blissed-out faces.

I was stuffed, but managed to save a bit of room for dessert.  Unfortunately, we didn't have time as we had to get moving to catch our movie (Angelina Jolie waits for no man).

Fortunately, Alexander's came through with a save as it seems they have a tradition of giving all the ladies at the table cotton candy as a parting token at the end of the meal.  You slick bastards, I'll make you pay!

Went to Alexander's for the first time the other day with a few friends - and the place was packed on like a tuesday night?  Wow- must be good!

Thought to myself, a great steakhouse in the south bay?  Being a steak lover - I had to try it and decided to make the pilgrimage down to cupertino... and it definitely impressed.

My wife and I split a huge bone in ribeye, the other 6 in our group each ordered their own steaks.  We had the hamachi shooters, popcorn crab, mac 'n' cheese, and a bunch of other dishes - and all were outstanding!  Our service was excellent (josh?), and the perfect wine pairings were recommended as well.  Heard that their "real" kobe just melts in your mouth - but we figured that we'd try that the next time around.

Everyone left the table stuffed, and the leftovers were even good the next day!  The cotton candy was a nice touch, although by then it was pretty difficult to eat much of that... even if it didn't take up much space in our stomachs :)

Yum! This place is classy, romantic, and pricey but you get what you pay for! James provided us with excellent service for my hubby's birthday. He explained everything to us with professionalism and patience and executed everything in a timely manner.

He ordered the Bone-in T-Bone steak and I ordered the Beef 'n Reef. We also had a popcorn crab appetizer which was good. My Beef 'n Reef plate was excellent! Oh, we also ordered the fries which were very different but so gooooooood. James comped us with some champagne and cookies for my hubby's birthday since they both shared the same birthday! Will definitely return when I'm feeling rich again! The bill came out to $300 for two.

They gave us some cotton candy to end the night and some foie gras to begin the night. We really never had foie gras before and when they gave it to us, we were a bit puzzled at what it was for. Was it to spread on the bread? But, where is the bread? Why are they looking at us? Are we not supposed to be eating it with a spoon?!

I like how they gave us little treats during our dining experience. I love fine dining because of restaurants like this one!

I've known about this place for a while. I was always intrigued but I never found a reason to come here...until my family suggested it. Well, because their friends suggested it to them. So, I was definitely hesitant.

The food was fine. It wasn't bad or exceptional. Someone at the table did order Kobe beef so I got to try it and it was amazing. Of all the steak plates on our table, that was probably the best. I'd be pissed if it wasn't since it's so expensive. I had the filet mignon and I thought it was decent. The best thing I had was probably the Hamachi shooters. That was really good!

I probably won't come back because of value but I'd totally hit up the bar for those Hamachi shooters.

I have visited the establishment a couple of times and I found the quality of service and food have been consistent! FANTASTIC.  I absolutely would have dinner here all the time if I could afford it.  Pricey, but I never cringe at the fact that I would easily spend $200+ for a dinner for two!  COMPLETELY well worth it.  Their steak prices range from approx. $50 to $200.  One Day I will try them all!
Love their Hamachi shooters - great presentation, great flavors all in a shot glass.  I could sit there and have a million of them.  Every once in a while they would have a bone in, 28 day dray aged filet Mignon - not on the menu, gotta ask for it.  YUMMY.  So tender & flavorful. I even tried this cut against a regular Fillet Mignon - totally could tell the difference.  You're in luck if they have it the day you decide to have dinner there.

I have been to Alexander's Steakhouse twice and it quickly became my restaurant of choice for special guests and special occasions because of the fantastic food and attentive service.

The first time I went to the Alexander's was about 6 months ago. I went with a group of friends and we all had a great time.  For appetizer we ordered the Hamachi shot.  The tender cubed Hamachi was seasoned in truffle-ponzu sauce with a dash of ginger and cilantro topped off with a sliver of Asian red hot chili pepper.  The shots were displayed on a bed of rock sugar and my favorite way to eat it was to take the shot in one gulp and then swirl all the flavors in my mouth.  I then tasted a pinch of rock sugar and allowed the sweetness to blend into the flavors.  As a result, I was able to savour the bursting flavors of fresh Hamachi along with saltiness, spiciness, sweetness, sourness and gingery tang.  That little Hamachi shot was a party in my mouth.

We each had our individual meal after the appetizer and for my dish, I ordered a thick cut 12-ounce prime rib.  The prime rib was lightly seasoned with pepper and salt on the rim and it was seared to lock in the wonderful juice.  As a result, the meat was juicy, tender and flavorful.  It was cooked to my liking of medium rare and the meat was perfect with a dash of fresh horse radish.  We ordered a side of macaroni and cheese with truffle oil.  One would imagine the pungent taste of truffle would clash with the sharp taste of cheese but the combination turned out incredible and it was the best mac and cheese I tasted.

We had one of the signature "dishes" which was pink amusement park styled fluffy cotton candy on a stick.  The cotton candy sent me off with a nostalgic memory of childhood; I had fun every time I had a cotton candy when I was young and Alexander's brought me back to the happier times.

The experience was even better the second time I went back.  We were taken care of by a server named Joseph and he was absolutely delightful.  It was our special night and he generously poured us sparkling wine on the house.  He didn't up-sell us on appetizers as one of the Yelpers had experienced and was very patient in answering our questions on the menu.  We had cocktails from their drinks menu; I had the Asian Pear and Randy had the Raspberry Lemonade.  The cocktails were delicious and made great starters.  We ordered my favorite Hamachi shots and the taste was just as I remembered.    For entree, I ordered the Melanage a Trois which was a slight variation of All 4 Love, featuring prime rib, braised beef with cambozola cheese with pastry puff and flank steak with bleu cheese.  Again, it was cooked into perfection with divine creativity.

At the end of the meal, we ordered Rise 'n Shine which was a souffle with sweet chocolate sauce pour.  It was decadent but not too rich.  We topped the dessert off with a pot of fresh piping hot peppermint tea and the whole experience was absolutely heavenly.

I then asked Joseph about the Asian accent decor on the second floor and he promptly took us to a tour in the restaurant.  The upstairs Asian accent room was an executive room with a dining table and a lounging set that can serve a party of 8 to 10.  He then took us to the front and back kitchen to see the meat locker (with all the wonderful dry-aged meat) and the lower temperature grill.  Everyone in the kitchen was friendly, polite and professional. I was shown the cotton candy machine and I even made my cotton candy!  Joseph then showed us the private tables that oversee the kitchen and live web-cam of the kitchen action.  The whole scene was a juxtaposition of fine dining and exciting Iron Chef competition.

Both of my experiences at Alexander's Steakhouse from the service, food, and the tour exceeded my expectation.  I am glad to say that Alexander's Steakhouse has risen above rank and became my favorite south Bay restaurant of all times.

Special occasions call for special restaurants, and when a friend and former coworker decided he was going to pack it up and move back home to the ATL, it was the perfect time for some old friends to get together, reminisce about the good old days and send him off in style. We quickly came to a consensus on Alexander's Steakhouse in Cupertino, a modern American steakhouse with Japanese influences that does some pretty amazing things with meat.

The first thing you notice when you walk into the restaurant is the meat locker on the left that contains huge slabs of dry-aged beef. It's always nice to know when a restaurant is aging its own beef, and as a meat lover, it's really a sight to behold.

We were presented with a really nice ahi tartare amuse bouche to kick off the meal. A few of us decided to try the Hamachi Shot off the small plates menu, one of Alexander's most popular appetizers (it's also the cheapest at $4). It's a shot glass filled with hamachi, red chili, frizzled ginger, avocado, and truffled ponzu, and you simply stir it up a bit and then shoot it. It's quite a rush, and I loved the slight kick you get from the chili.

Salads quickly followed, including my Baby Lettuce salad with yuzu vinaigrette, red radish, ten kasu, and the optional bacon lardons (of course!). The Iceberg Lettuce salad featured living watercress, point reyes blue cheese, and apples and was plated beautifully. Before our main courses arrived, we cleansed our palates with an intermezzo -- a refreshing shot of mango juice and chopped strawberries.

Between the eight of us, only three different entrees were ordered -- five orders of the 10 oz. filet mignon, two orders of the Melange a Trois (including mine) and one Misoyaki Sea Bass. The filets were excellent and topped with shiitakes and candied bacon. The sea bass was served with sansho crispy squid, tempura green beans, curried trout roe, beurre noir, and their crunchiness was a nice contrast to the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth fish.

The guest of honor and I both ordered the Melange for its variety -- Prime Rib in Natural Jus, Braised Shortrib with Brie en Cocette, and Bavette Steak with Green Olives and Bleu Cheese. I also added a piece of Seared Foie Gras to "round out" the meal. :-)

I really liked the prime rib with its smooth, buttery texture and the natural jus was delicious. The shortrib/brie combo was topped with puff pastry, so it was like a really beefy and cheesy pot pie. The Bavette was really good on its own, and seeing it topped with a slice of seared foie gras made it even more decadent. I have to say despite all the hype foie gras gets from foodies, it doesn't get me all that excited. I think it's good, but it's nothing really mind blowing either.

We had a pretty good assortment of sides with our meal, including the Mac and Cheese with Truffle Oil (didn't need the truffle oil), Mashed Potatoes (creamy, perfect), Creamed Spinach (excellent), Asparagus with Bernaise (good), and Haricot Vert with Bacon (too full to appreciate). Of these, the creamed spinach was a standout because of the crispy filo strands (I like things that make food crunchy).

For a steakhouse, Alexander's does some really creative things with sweets, and luckily, most of us managed to save some space for dessert. Around the table we had the aptly named Divinity (chocolate souffle with creme anglaise), Ooh! (chocolate sphere filled with fudge, chocolate black olive ice cream and black velvet cake), Blush (mango panna cotta with passion fruit sorbet and honey gelee), and Velvet Ropes (blueberry lavender creme brulee with maple ice cream). The chocolate decadence of the Ooh! was my favorite of these, but I also liked the mango panna cotta. The souffle was also really good, but I wasn't really into the hints of lavender in the creme brulee.

If you're too full and choose not to order dessert, you'll still get a glimpse of where they're coming from when they bring the cotton candy to the table. On previous visits, the cotton candy was much smaller and part of a petit fours that concluded the meal. (Can you say "whimsical" boys and girls? I knew you could) Now, you'll see carnival-sized helpings of cotton candy being delivered to tables while you eat. I don't know if they change the flavors of their cotton candy, but last night's was grape, and it was awesome. (I also love grape-flavored things, like Kool-Aid, Jolly Ranchers and Dimetapp.)

Aside from the excellent food, the service at Alexander's is top notch. They were great at explaining all the dishes and taking care of anything we needed. As we get older and our schedules get more complicated (kids, work, etc.), it gets harder for friends to go out and enjoy each other's company while having an amazing meal. Luckily, when we do find the time to get together, there are places like Alexander's that can take away the stress so you can just relax and have a good time.

Yuk.  The worst steak I have ever had in the south bay,  EVER!  I found the overall quality of all the food to be very average, but worse than that were the pretentious wait staff and hostesses.

When I had only had a few bites of my steak after 15 minutes into the meal, my over arrogant waiter with his tightly slicked backed hair came over to our table with his nose up and scoffed, "well perhaps you don't like dry aged beef"

Well sir, perhaps I do like dry aged beef, which is why I ordered what I did.

I was so tired of the antics and poor service I told them not to worry about it that my dogs would get to enjoy the steak - just bag it up so I can take it to them.  And that is exactly what I did.

Sometimes you just gotta have meat.  I'm not talking architectural food, glossy smears, foam of this, reduction of that...I just mean meat.....endless seas of meat....fields of red, juicy meat......meat........meat.

And, oh...cotton candy.  Wait a second, how did this happen?  More on that later.

Anyway, after a very long day celebrating the receipt of a long sought and hard fought diploma for the Mrs (otherwise known as graduation), what better way to cap off the culmination of the American dream than to celebrate by massacring a bunch of poor cows in the pursuit of some tasty protein.

Enter Alexander's.

While not cheap, it's not exactly Sparks or Smith & Wolensky in New York City either.  On the other hand, Alexander's is very good and offers a variety of appetizers and side dishes that are frankly better than that offered at those cherished establishments.  So while I applaud the meats....the endless fields of meat....I was surprised by the depth and goodness of the other available appetizers and sides.

Case in point, Hamachi Shooters.  I was a bit nervous ordering a raw seafood dish at a steakhouse.  But these were very good indeed, so much so that I ended up ordering 4.  Basically, it's fresh Hamachi in a tart ponzu sauce.  In a way, the tartness of the dish and the clean taste of the fish is a great palate cleanser to prepare you for the richness of the meat dishes.  The Shooters are a keeper.  In fact, much of the appetizers are meals in and of themselves (they do offer an omakase meal, a bit surprising for a steakhouse, but given the quality of the Shooters, I might try it one day).

Second dish, Gazpacho.  I love Gazpacho.  At its best, it's a perfect summer dish.  Clean, spicy, garlicky goodness.  Gazpacho, a little bread and an apperitif, and you're golden.  Alexander's gets it right.  Light, but with body, not too tart and the garlic does not overpower.  The tomatoes are fresh and refreshing.  Again, along with the Hamachi Shooters, a great palate cleanser.

Now for the main courses.  2lb Bone In Rib Eye for me and 10 ounce Fillet Mignon for the Mrs, both ordered medium rare.  The Fillet....like butah.  There's a Korean word that is just perfect to describe food that is too heavy and dull...Nuhkie.  Fillet can be this way if not properly prepared and cooked.  But Alexander's makes it so right.  So soft and tasty.  And when you order it medium rare, it comes out medium rare.

I love meats with the bone-in.  I don't know why this is, but the meat around the bone has that extra layer of fat and when grilled, the fat chars and gives flavor to the meat.  That's what's so good about a well marbled meat.  T-bone, Rib-Eye, Prime Rib....these are some of the most flavorful cuts of meat, and the Rib-Eye I ordered did not disappoint.  Perfectly cut and cooked, and although it was a mountain of food, I nearly finished it off.

Side dishes, Crimini Mushrooms and Mac & Cheese.  Both are perfect compliments to the meat dishes.  Both can't be described as "light" dishes, but they were not Nuhkie either.  Flavorful and hearty, the dishes hold up to the flavor of the meat dishes.  Well thought out.

I would be remiss if I did not mention that the service was exemplary and courteous.  Our waiter was helpful, friendly and professional.  You can't ask for more.  The Kid liked him too.

At the end of the day, Alexander's is a keeper and one of the better steakhouses I've been to here in the Bay Area.  There are so many items to choose from, I don't think anyone would get tired of the treats offered here.  On top of that, they make a killer martini (Hendricks Gin for me, straight up, olives....yes, I'm traditional that way).

Oh yeah, the cotton candy.  Steakhouses can get too serious, as if they were serving a new energy policy rather than a hearty and, in essence, a down to earth meal.  Cooked meats may be the most basic meal in human history, so why make it intolerably stuffy.  The cotton candy at the end is a sign that, hey, this is about good food in a good place.  Why not have some fun too.  I get it.  I like it.

Yes, the meats.....endless walls of meat....are perfect.  So is the sense of normalcy...can this be perfect too?  In the end, I think it is.

Bone-appetite y'all.

Okay, I will say the food was good, but I have had better for less than the kind of coin we spent, and for that kind of money the place better knock your socks off, which it failed to do.

First problem was making the reservation, I made a reservation for a party of 4 for 7:30pm and they said they could not get us in until 8:00pm, so we thought we would get there at 7:15pm and have a drink in the bar first, it sounded like fun.  Well when we arrived the restaurant was more than half empty and they still said we would have to wait until 8:00pm.  Assuming there will be about 60-80 people coming any minute, we waited.  Drinks in the bar were so-so, and the funny thing is that they describe themselves at upscale and dress is business casual, at these prices I would expect not to see low riding baggy pants, shorts, baseball caps worn sideways taking up all the seats in the bar, especially since I just paid $10 buck to valet my car (which is technically Vallco Mall) and am STILL waiting to be seated in a half empty restaurant!

Yippie at 8:10pm finally being seated...guess what?!, the freaking place is STILL half empty -- I'm still looking for those 60-80 people just ready to pour in any minute. (wink!)

The four of us ordered appetizers, we go the hamachi shooters (very good), the popcorn crab (good Chesapeake blue lump crab meat tempered), but served luke warm, and got very blah when they got cold shortly thereafter.  The foie gras prepared cold, however was very good.  We also got the king crab legs as an appetizer and they were good as well.

Two of the four of us ordered the bone in NY.  I had a bite and they were good, but again not over the top, oh my gawd the best steak in the world.  I had the fillet, which was nice.  Not any better than Morton's, Ruth Chris, Grill on the Alley or even Original Joe's by any means.

The wine service was s-l-o-w.  We ordered two expensive wines (which were the hit of the evening).  Two real nice French Hermitages and tagged with real proud prices too.

The biggest disappointment were the sides, Mac 'N Cheese white truffle oil (Yuck! the cheese tasted like it was cooked too high and just plain bad). Crimini Mushrooms leeks and sherry wine, (good, but Original Joe's has better mushrooms).  White Truffle French Fries (good, not fabulous). Morel Mushroom & Asparagus Risotto citrus mascarpone (only second worst to the mac). It might have had a fighting chance had there not been so much citrusy lemon in it that it killed the taste of the risotto, and my wine, and steaks all combined.

The Ooh! Chocolate sphere filled with fudge, chocolate black olive ice cream and black velvet cake. Was pretty good, just that the black olive ice cream was a little weird.

With all that being said and paying $x,xxx bucks later it left me wondering...why?  There are far better dining spots in the Bay Area and far cheaper, Pepoli, Michael Mina, Gary Danko -- and heck San Jose's Original Joe's fillet mignon kicks ass over Alexanders any day of the week.  Granted you wont have the stuffiness that Alexander's provides, but you will still have waiters in suits serving you a good steak and you might see your share of baggy pants and baseball caps in their bar too!

I finally got to come here after hearing for a year of how good this place is! Every time there was an occasion, I always had to miss out since I always had something going on! But finally...  my cousin turned 25 and I told her I'd take her to her favorite restaurant.. Alexanders!!

Since we were celebrating her birthday, they gave us a complimentary toast and usually it's champagne, but since we weren't feeling like drinking champagne, we got sparkling strawberry lemonade which was really good!

Then a different version of the tuna tartare came out for us complimentary as well and that was pretty tasty too!!

Then our appetizers came out that we ordered which was the popcorn crab ($22) which was so delicious!!  It was filled with a lot of fresh crab meat and it was perfectly battered and fried!  Also, our two hamachi shots came out as well ($4 each) which was soo even more delicious!!)  This was my most favorite part of the entire meal! It's something you have to try!!

Then out came another complimentary dish which was the raspberry mango cooler! It was raspberry juice like but a little thicker and very delicious with some pieces of frozen mango! It was very refreshing!

Then our porterhouse ($54), truffle mac n' cheese ($10), truffle french fries ($10), and crimini mushrooms ($8).  Everything was perfect!!  The porterhouse was ordered medium rare and it was cooked perfectly!  The mac n' cheese and french fries had enough of the truffle oil that it wasn't overpowering or anything!  The mushroom was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful!!

Then for dessert, we were given complimentary mini cookie like things which were yummy. And we ordered the Rise n' Shine which was grand marnier orange flavored souffle which wasn't that great and I was disappointed in this dessert. Then of course, since we were there for a birthday, they gave us a little chocolate brownie/cupcake on a plate that says happy birthday.  I was a bit disappointed that it did not say "Happy 25th Birthday" like I had requested but it's ok, the writing of course was still beautiful!  And as always, they gave us a peach cotton candy at the end!

Next time I come here, I'm getting the 2lb bone in rib eye!

Since it's in the mall, i thought it was another Outback Steak house.. but I was so very wrong.  I walk in with shorts, T-shirt, and my white Adidas, while everyone else was wearing their sports coat.  their waiters didn't mind at all.

they were so friendly, they didn't mind their scrubby customer.

what annoys me is when you go to restaurants and the waiter comes by with free food and says, "this is complements from the chef".

Our waiter did that too. What does the restaurant want me to think? Am I going to think their Chef made a special dish just for me, because i'm a super star?  And no one else?   I wanted to say, "jeeze pleeze".. just say you're giving this crap for free to make me feel SPECIAL!"   It was steak tartar.. it was good.

It annoyed me even more when the next table was presented with the same Tartar.

We go onto dinner, I had their dry aged porterhouse , medium, and my GF had their 2lbs bone in rib eye (medium rare).  Hers was tender and the juices were delicious.  There was a hint of BBQ and redwine in the glaze.

the porterhouse was OK,.. not that great... rare in the middle so I didnt' finish most of it.  Actually i've had better at Outback, it was just a tad better than Sizzlers.  It came with point reyes blue cheese and butter, but didn't make to much of a difference.  it was quite a disappointment.

It's more of a romantic dining experience.  the entire wait staff was kind and courteous.  the manager even stopped by our table to give compliments on my Petite 90lb, 5'1" girlfriend while she was gnawing on her 2lb bone in ribeye.

my GF looked so sexy with that piece of fat oozing down the side of her lip when the manager was complimenting her on my GF appetite.  oh. i wanted to tongue that fat off her lip! and take her her right then and there.. haha... nasty!!

As we finish our meals, the manager comes by and drops off a bite size strawberry cheese cakes, free bee's.  actually the size of a small strawberry.

But this time, she has a different line , "I was so astonished by this little girl eating this huge piece of meat, I had to come by and see for myself and bring  you over you complimentary delectables from our chef".  At least it's better than saying "compliments from the chef"

I guess this was away f
