The cart is in a good spot for pedestrians out back of the UO bookstore on campus and they make consistently good falafel. Flavorful, fresh and friendly - really how can you go wrong?
It is the best and most consistent falafel I've eaten, but I don't necessarily hit up this genre of food in other cities so hard to compare. Definitely best in Eugene.
Yes. If you are ever at the University of Oregon, make sure you head down to 13th and give Alexander's Great Falafel a try. Each time I order, I know I'm getting the best. Perfect falafel, scrumptious hummus, and make sure to get that hot sauce. You can't go wrong with Alexander's. Plus, it's all vegan! :)
P.S. Big ups for the free lemonade. Extra refreshing on those hot days while you wait.
This really is a great falafel place.
the great thing about the falafel is that Alex makes them right when you order so they are always hot and fresh and never dry. And if you like spice, definitely put the homemade hot-sauce on the falaful.
I definitely recommend this place. Great for a quick snack or lunch.
I couldn't agree more with the positive reviews. I went to school here in the late mid 90's and ate at Alex's stand at least three times a week. His food is always fresh. He will tell you that I am the reason he sells tabouli. He himself is also a gem of a person. An absolute must eat for anyone who goes to Eugene.
Best falafel. Hands down. Better than Portland food carts so I've heard. Go now! It's the food cart outside of the UO Duck Store. Alexander is so friendly.
Nowhere, I mean, not even when I was in the Middle East did I have a falafel that was this god, I mean good. "Alexanders Great Falafel" is not false advertising.
This man makes the BEST falafels on the planet. I dont give 5 stars so freely. Your shit has to blow me away to get 5 stars.
The falafel balls are the perfect size, crunchy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. Get it w/hot sauce. You will agree these are the best falafels you will ever eat, in your life. Trust this Jew.
Love this place! Good, inexpensive food, and excellent service! Possibly the best falafel I've ever had. I thought I didn't like falafel for a long time, because it's often too dry or too greasy, but Alexander's is the baby bear's porridge of falafel. Conveniently located for students right in front of the Duck Store on Kincaid and 13th. While they are a stand and don't have their own seating, there are lots of benches on that block, including one right next to the stand. My only complaint is that they close early and aren't there on weekends.
I've been eating here weekly for several years, and I'm glad to see Alex doing well on Yelp. This is my first review so I'll keep it brief. Or try to.
I've had falafel domestically - meaning, never outside of the country - in places like LA and NYC. And I'd say Alex is right up there. Because of variations in ingredients and preparation, no 2 falafels are alike, but the secret to Alex is in the freshness and the service. Sometimes even the service is fresh, like when he tries to give me dating advice. The man's a sweetheart, but he's been married a long time.
Anyway...Alex's wife makes everything from scratch daily at home, and you can taste the freshness-tang in the hummous and salad. The only thing she doesn't make is the pita because they don't have a way to do that kosher yet. Alex even changes the fry oil daily, which is probably too often but he's fastidious that way.
Try it if you haven't. And ask for the tabouli. The mint ties the whole room together, as it were.
Definitely a good choice for a quick bite while around the campus area. The free lemonade is a nice bonus.
It's decent falafel, not the best, not the worst. The free lemonade is a nice touch.
After taking a tour at the U of O in 103 degree weather and only eating breakfast, by 2 PM I was looking forward to lunch. I had read about Alexander's Great Falafel in yelp and we headed right over and got our falafels immediately! They were fresh and delicious. I had the medium falafel and also had the free lemonade! I think this was the best falafel I've ever had! We ate our falafels in the U of O Bookstore which is right next to Alexander's, because it was 103 degrees outside, which made us enjoy the falafels even more!
For the past three years I've enjoyed Alexanders; I've never tasted falafel this good. All selections are vegan and come with free lemonade. I highly recommend the hot sauce he offers. You almost feel guilty because it's so delicious, but it's light and relatively healthy, especially for fast food.
This is my favorite place to get food in the campus area. Forget Glenwood, Burrito Amigos, Barry's, Sweet Basil Express, etc. This is the place you need to go. It's not surprising -- street carts always seem to have the best food, and this one is no exception. Alexander is amazing (he always tells me to "have a beautiful day!"), the falafel is wonderful (ask for extra hot sauce), and the free lemonade is perfect to wash it down. It's best to go on a sunny day and eat your falafel on one of the benches outside. Grab plenty of napkins.
Ok, so I'm no veggie, and I don't really care about kosher. However, these falafel are wonderful. I buy them on cold days, because the very hot, very freshly cooked falafel makes my hands warm. The large falafel is large. I can't eat it all.
This fellow has been on campus for years. If you're leery of street food, I can assure you - I've never, ever heard of anyone getting sick from eating at this cart. Healthy, inexpensive, freshly cooked, and fast... how can you go wrong?
This lunch stand has the most wonderful falafels and tabouli in town. You get a free lemonade with your order which is a bonus.
I'm not usually down with eating at a cart, but this is worth it. You can take your lunch and find a nice piece of grass on campus to enjoy.
No Animal Products. Kosher. All Vegan.
Ordinarily, I endeavor to stamp out the vegan menace whenever and wherever it rears its bean-sprouted tempeh head.
However, Alexander's falafel really is the best in town. This tiny blue and white cart operates from the sidewalk on the east outer wall of the University of Oregon bookstore.
Alexander can serve your falafel up with or without hummus or hot sauce, with veggies and hot sauce, in medium or large sizes. A sampler platter is also available and free fake lemonade comes with every order. Except for the fakeness of the lemonade, Alexander is the real deal.
Rumor has it that if you order in Hebrew, you get a discount.
(Say: "Ani rotzeh falafel gadol, bevakasha.")
Strangely, I missed out on this phenomenon through my entire four years at the University of Oregon. But, last year while in town I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. It lived up to all the hype and I'm quite the falafel snob. The friendly man working the stand steered me toward the hot sauce, which was a good choice. They definitely made a return customer of me.
Without a doubt my favorite place on campus to get lunch. Get the deluxe falafel, it's worth the extra buck. The hot sauce is great and pretty damn hot, so you may need something to drink besides the complimentary fake lemonade.
OK, so it's been years since I've had one of these BUT I am still remembering how delicious they are....I guess that says something! I was just back in Eugene for a visit but he wasn't in his normal spot in front of the UO bookstore :( Where or where did he go? My hubby and I went back twice to check - but no luck either time!
Alexander is the gold standard of friendly service. I love the man, I want to give him a big hug. His falafel is delicious and made to order - I've eaten the stuff from the west coast to the east coast to the Mediterranean itself, and his is by far the best. I wish he used a little fluffier pita and had a few more veggie options, but the delicious falafel and superb hot sauce more than make up for it.
