Alex gave me a super cute short bob haircut about a month ago, and it is growing out nicely!! Just like he said it would. That was my first visit to him, and I am sticking with him. I've gotten so many compliments. Thank you, Alex!
Alex also has a great personality and super friendly. I highly recommend him for your haircut needs. -

When Alex remade my hairstyle with a new color and Keratin, he changed my life. He is Such a talented hairstylist and amazing person. He listens and he knows even beyond just anything I would try to say, what would be a good fit. In fact his choices are so awesome I would trust him with any suggestions.
I have loved my hair so much more since he has worked with me, and I am so thankful since this has made so much difference to how I feel about myself and the time it takes for me to get ready every day. -

Alex is the absolute best! He is not only highly skilled but the most fun person to talk to while he is making your hair beautiful. After seeing him everyone comments on how great my hair looks. As in the other reviews Alex is attentive, skilled, careful and I always walk out gleaming. He gave me a fun asymmetrical edgy but refined cut and color.. Yes he is the only one who could make that happen.
Before seeing Alex (who I was introduced to from Geurilla Makeover) I couldn't find a stylist to do what I wanted or understand what I was talking about. I switch what I want all the time and Alex is the only one who has ever been able to keep up and "get it." He always spends the time to teach me how to style my hair.
Oh and he is super organized and professional too which makes the experience all the better. -

I went to Alex at first because he carries Goldwell (the best color line hands down). At the time I was still seeing my prior stylist for cuts. However after a few sessions with Alex, who is extremely experienced, insightful and capable with color, I thought I would give him a try with my cut as well. He did an amazing job and was so careful and attentive to making sure that I got exactly what I wanted. And, I did!

Alex gave me two haircuts and both were my favorite! :) I like edgy and short like Rhianna, and he gave me two totally different awesome cuts. I am going to try him for color soon. Yay! I know he does awesome longer layer cuts and blow outs too because I have seen the clients leaving before me, and they look amazing too. I am excited to be able spread the word about him. He is very friendly, helpful, and professional as well.

Review from Kerry P.
We've all had one bad haircut in our lives. Mine happened at age 12, when a stylist decided to give me layers up to my ears. Let's just say I spent the next 24 months growing my hair out to hippie lengths...the thought of a trim enough to send me into orbit.
I met Alex by chance when my usual stylist couldn't take me. Alex had just moved out to SF from NY. He foiled my hair quickly and never layers the colors (lazy stylists will overlap the highlights causing your hair to break in all directions and become straw. Alex is very conscientious about what color will do to your hair). I've been his client ever since.
About 6 months ago, I decided to lop off 10 inches of my long, golden locks into an inverted bob. Before we did this, Alex asked all the appropriate questions: "Did you just break up with a boyfriend?" "We've been talking about this cut for a while...why now?" Before any chopping took place, he measured out the inches on the end of comb, just to make sure I knew what I was doing. Long story short, I think anyone would be initially shell-shocked with a new cut of this magnitude. Alex made me look so fabulous that I didn't even bat an eyelash at the drastic change.
Alex recently went out on his own, in a convenient location downtown on Market Street. You best believe I followed him to his new digs. In addition to being a coloring genius and an all-around talented, sensitive stylist...he's a great person and someone you can really trust with you mane. I would recommend Alex Talon in the HIGHEST regard to anyone looking for a new hair stylist. We need to stick with the people who know what they're doing. -

Alex has a midas touch when it comes to color. I came to him on Sunday and was foiled, dried, shampooed and styled in an hour and a half. He is efficient and precise and a wonderful person with whom to chat.
While a bit more on the pricey side, he does know his craft and did not push product on me, which I appreciated. I still walked out with a bottle of shampoo which he recommended and seemed to know well and I don't mind paying a premium for something I think is well worth the price.
Thank you Alex. I will be seeing you soon and have been singing your praises. -

What can I say about Alex Talon that hasn't already been said?
He is, in fact, an amazing stylist and colorist. But he is so much more than that! He truly listens to his clients and finds ways to express their personality in his cuts and styles. He gives them what they want but in such a way that far exceeds expectation. I can say this because he has not only done so for me, but with several friends and colleagues that are also now his most avid fans.
This is the artistry that he brings with his years of experience, hospitable nature and unique talent.
This is a man that loves what he does. He loves helping people look and feel better, he loves spending time working with his clients to get the right style for their lifestyle and personality and he loves making the world a more beautiful place; one head of hair at a time. -

I joined Yelp, so I could write this long overdue review.
I met Alex 3 years ago when my former stylist could not take me. My appointment fell on a day with a family crisis and I walked in with with terrible hair not knowing what to do. Alex started working his magic and took care of everything.
I have wavy/curly blonde hair which needs shape and depth to look good. I try to get it done 4-5 times a year and Alex works with me with the right tone so that it lasts for 3 months if I need it to. He is an expert at his craft and makes me look my best everytime. He has nursed my hair back to health and perfect blonde color after years of neglect and chair hopping. Alex is a perfectionist and will not tolerate anything less.
Whether you are struggling to find a new stylist in San Francisco or you are not satisfied with your current state of affairs, Alex will help you. -
Review from Marissa M.

Alex is a fantastic stylist and person. He miraculously fixed a horrible mistake that a woman at Marzia salon in Union Square had made. I had gone to her for a cut and color and when I walked out of there...my hair was a quarter inch uneven, and ORANGE.
I had heard great things about Alex, so I walked into his darling studio (on the second floor of a really cool building on Market Street) for help. He took one look at me and knew exactly what to do to fix the color. Miracle of all miracles, he managed to take the orange out of my hair, give me a more natural base tone (by using my darkish roots) and I'm seeing him again tomorrow to continue the process (I've really screwed up my hair by using a box formula for the past few years).
He REALLY knows his stuff - how to mix the right color formula to create the look you want, how to correct a disaster (like he did with me), and he's a hoot. So fun to talk to and I love his new location.
RUN, don't walk, to Alex Talon for your color. I can't tell you how happy I am with what he's done, and what he continues to do. My hair is healthy looking, a pretty color, and I'm a very happy girl. -

Alex is amazing! He did my 17 yo son for a Rock Star Make-over! Wow did he look great, He then did my 7 yo daughter for her Rock Star Make-over, again amazing! Then he did my friend and she finally got the hair-cut of her dreams! Then myself and all I can say is he is amazing! He listens to his clients and gives suggestions and you leave feeling like a DIVA! He is just the Best! We had a horrible experience with the nail person wild orchid boutique that works in his building, she just blew us off. Alex went the extra mile to find us a person at the last minute to cover for her. He really cares about his clients. So if you want an amazing new doo, an amazing color or cut, this is the guy to call. Thank you Alex for making us look amazing! You are truely the best! We shall see you soon.!

I've gone to many a highly rated yelp hairstylist, and have always been a little underwhelmed. But I've been going to see Alex for about a year now, and he's absolutely wonderful! I get compliments on my hair for months after a cut. My haircuts are a fun treat because Alex feels like an old friend who also gives excellent advice on skincare, nail salons, and car buying! Once he spent an extra 30 minutes with me just showing me how to style my hair in different ways.
I have long straight hair and he has given me amazing swept bangs, and has also helped me grow them out flawlessly! He helps maintain my length without letting me get that "too long" hair look that old hippies rock.
He's now got an amazing studio that's on a floor of a bunch of independent stylists, each with their own mini studio. If you like to buy your veggies direct from the growers, than do the same with your hairstylist and cut out the middleman! Alex is a phenomenal stylist, and a truly warmhearted person. -

Alex has been the go-to hair stylist for Guerrilla Makeovers since the day I first came to him off the street with the unlikely request of a spontaneous mohawk for a client. Alex rocked the hawk and our company has been using him ever since. He's the absolute best in SF for all hair types, from curly to straight and everything in between (no mean feat, let me tell you!), and is just as talented with color as he is with the shears. Alex specializes in walking his clients through every step of the styling process so that they know how to make their hair look fab all by themselves once he's finished his work. He's one of the few people in the world I will allow to touch my own hair, and I have no problem flying in from thousands of miles away to get the special Talon Touch. I highly recommend him--you will be forever hooked!

Alex is amazing. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my curly hair. I'm the kind who is clueless and needs a stylist to tell me what is going to look good on me, what would be a disaster, or how I can change my look without doing too much. He never disappoints. Aside from being talented, he's fun to spend the hour or two with. With other stylists in the past, I've often been the one reading a magazine while in the chair, but because Alex is so friendly and charismatic, I often can't wait to see him.

Normally I don't write ANYTHING on Yelp because I only get on Yelp to give bad reviews to places I would never want any living soul to go to, but when I asked Alex how he ever gets any clients when his salon is a private room in a building of other hair stylists, he told me only through word of mouth. So since Alex did an AMAZING job with my hair, I feel like it's my fair share to get out and help him spread the word.
I came in not knowing what I wanted at all. After listening to some opinions from a professional 3rd party, he looked at my hair, looked at some sample google pictures, looked back and my hair and cut an amazing job whilst complimenting about my hair and what I need to do to achieve an amazing look. We even ran a little bit late and he took his time and didn't kick me out of the chair to teach me what to do with my hair to sustain the look and even what shampoo to use (sold me a bottle).
Thank you very much Alex! -

Yup. Another 5-star review for Alex. I can't add to what has already been said about his talent with cuts and color. He's simply the best I've known, East Coast or West Coast. More than that, he's a wonderful person, and really wants to be part of making you feel great about how you look. Visiting his salon is a full service experience. Whatever service you book, he'll give you more than just a great style.
Recently, I took the plunge and went for the keratin smoothing treatment. It was a long process and took forever on my long, thick hair, but the results were everything I could have hoped. It's a little hassle for a huge pay off, in my opinion. Worth. Every. Penny.
Simply put, I look forward to every appointment with Alex. -

Alex is a REAL TALENT. He has a fabulous new salon in a great location, hip & modern, easily accessible to public transport and shopping!
Alex gets it. He asks the right question/s when you sit in his client chair, then works his magic. Never fails to do a fantastic job, every time and all the time.
What a great guy, he is worth every penny. -

So, I am not a typical Yelp reviewer, or really that keen on writing in general, but Alex's services are so amazingly fantastic that I would consider it a crime not to SHOUT "Go see him!!!!!!!!" I don't know what the right words are....I used to be an avid follower of Aveda Salons and when I moved to SF four years ago, I found Alex there. He now has his own place away from all the crazy salon mumbo jumbo, conveniently half a block away from the Montgomery muni station and his new place is like having a luxurious private hair salon and stylist all to yourself.
I have to agree with the other reviews in saying that he is a "real talent." Unfairly a term not used often enough for hair stylists. He has years and years of experience in hair and seems to know everything about every hair type, color, texture, grade, right down to the science of how your hair is built. He really listens and gives you exactly what you want and has a wealth of suggestions for the undecided. Extra points for reading into me when I said I wanted to perm my color-treated and very fine hair, which he has repeatedly talked me out of (to keep me from going bald!). He also helped me grow my hair out for a year, which I haven't been able to do since I chopped it all of when I was 16. Bottom line is, he is an expert. He's warm and friendly and is so much fun to talk to. Every time I see him it's like catching up with an old friend. He is the best treat I can ever offer my hair and I highly recommend you call him up today!!!!! -

Alex is one of the best hairdressers I have ever been to. Not only is he an amazing professional, but his facilities are top notch. You will have a terrific view of Market Street as you relax in his chair and have your locks turned into perfection. You can't go wrong, I can't recommend Alex enough.

Best stylist in San Francisco. He did amazing work on my hair and is just an awesome person in general. I don't exactly have a lot to work with, but he did a killer job on the soul patch, side burns and my fiance can't keep her hands off me... Should have come here before I got engaged :)

Review from Julie L.
San Francisco, CA
Alex has been my hair stylist for about a year now. I had the good fortune of being introduced to him through Guerrilla Makeovers (see beth's review, below), and now I won't go to anybody else. And let's be clear, I don't have a mohawk. I've got straight brown hair and my style is pretty conservative. This is testament to Alex's range! He first and foremost listens to what you want from your style, and he is very perceptive, as well, so he'll pick up on the look you want and what will work for you and your lifestyle, even if you are like me and very inarticulate about what you want, or just want some help experimenting! In my case, Alex cuts my hair so beautifully that I don't even have to style it; the cut is just that good. BUT, in the meantime, he is also helping me learn more ways to experiment with my hair and style it. He has endless ideas about style and color. Talking to him during one appointment is worth hundreds of hours flipping through style magazines! Don't waste your time. Don't waste your money. Go to Alex and love your hair!
