Jenny and Dave Mo are both FABULOUS for a great haircut.  Jenny is especially great at layers.  If you're looking for amazing color you should definitely go to Jenny.  She works miracles when it comes to finding a natural, yet flattering and rich hair color that suits your skin tone.  I constantly receive compliments on my hair color and will be routinely flying back to MI (I now live out of state) to have my hair cut & colored by Jenny.

I'm not a very high-maintenance kind of girl when it comes to my hair.  In fact, I'm probably one of the most low-maintenance around.  I've never had my hair dyed, highlighted, or colored any different than my natural.  Never had extensions or a perm.  I don't even know what a Brazilian blowout is -- but it sounds a lot more like a sex move than a hair treatment.  I throw my hair in a ponytail as soon as it grows out longer than a couple of inches below my shoulders.

But despite my low-maintenance hairstyle, I do want a nice cut, for those days I feel like dressing up, those evenings out, or those special events.  So when it came time for my latest cut, I did a bit of research on Yelp, and decided on Alex and Emilio Salon.

The good reviews here are very well-founded and well-deserved.  Even though I had a "trainee" stylist, Chelsey, she did a fantastic job.  She gave me exactly the cut I requested, with only my brief descriptions on which to base her work (I didn't even think to bring a photo of the cut/style I wanted).  And in fact, this "trainee" stylist actually gave me a better cut than the majority of the full-fledged stylists I've been to at other salons.  Even better -- she's cheaper because she's in training!

I had a nice scalp massage and shampoo before my cut, which really added volume to my fine hair.  Chelsey was excellent at choosing the right shampooing and conditioning products for my hair -- she looked at my hair first, and quickly realized that a heavy condition would totally weigh down my baby-fine tresses.  So she used a light, no-residue type of conditioner that really worked.  I regret not having bought that product to bring home with me.

For the shampoo, condition, cut, and tip, I was out of Alex and Emilio for under $50 -- an impressive bargain at this sort of haute-salon concept with young, hip stylists.

Appointments are required, but they can often accommodate same-day or next-day appointments.

Worse hair experience of my life. I saw Tony. I had just below the shoulders dark strawberry blond curly hair with golden highlights. Stated I wanted blonder hair for the summer and I wanted a trim with a few layers around my face but to keep the length. I got a hack job of a haircut that will take years before it will be back to what I entered the salon with and hair that is brown, red, copper, blond and every color in between...in chunks. It looked terrible. Went back for a correction color. Now my hair is yellow blond with a few streaks of brown and red. Still looks terrible...the cut is not fixable. Tony said I would just have to wait for it to grow out. Unfortunately I already knew that. Both times I sat in his chair I felt like he was rushed and not listening to me. He even made excuses for me not communicating properly when I went to the salon the first time. I find that unacceptable. He also used inappropriate language multiple times during my appointment.  Honestly I feel uglier than I have ever felt in my life and I can't imagine anyone doing a poorer job. Save yourself from this horrific experience.

This is a good place but it is again pricy. Then again, if it does good work it doesn't matter the amount. Since this place did well on me, I did not mind the cost of the final product. You can bring your kids to this salon as well. I got my cut and color here a few times. I wasn't satisfied one of the times but everyone makes mistakes. I came back and was satisfied again. Overall, this is a good place to get a cut. Just, it's pricy so if you have the money, treat yourself here.

Okay, so I started going to Alex Emilio fresh out of high school after my favorite stylist left the upstairs salon, I think maybe I was still in high school.. regardless, I heard they did a good job. Maybe it's my funky style that they just can't grasp. Anyways, the hair cuts were okay, so I stuck with getting them there a few times.

I moved to NYC and never looked backed at Alex Emilio for obvious reasons, plus my haircut in nyc was the same price and looked better. (Sorry guys!)

Anywho, I recently moved back and got my hair cut and colored by Katy and I hate it. I really really hate looking at it.. I showed a picture of an orange-y copper-y girl and said this color and showed a short hair cut on some celebrity that I wanted. The cut is fine, I'm pretty easy to please about my hair cuts.. my last two hair cuts my friends and I did (just to give you an idea .. and no my friend is not a hairstylist she is a costume designer). Anyways, my color is the real probelm. Nowhere on my head is orange-y copper-y, it's like maroon red. The top is totally different color than the sides. Think *NSYNC Justin when they first came out, frosted tips on top and natural side. hideous. I feel so trashy with this dye job I have to go back and ask what they can do to fix it, if they can fix it. :(

Also my stylist has a mouth of a sailor, which I don't really mind, maybe she feels that because I'm 24 I'm the same way, but I'm not. And it's pretty unprofessional.

I didn't know this but it was also the same girl that did an updo for my brother's wedding a year and a half ago that I really didn't like because it was nothing like what I showed her.

This sounds really harsh, but if you hate looking at yourself after you just spent a nice amount of money, .. I mean, really?!

Just wanted to update about Steve for color: I went to him for color a couple of weeks ago and he did a great job. I got a base color plus highlights and I was very happy with it. I will definitely be going back to Steve for cut and color from now on!

All I have to say is that Dave Mo does the absolute best blonde color I've ever had. He loves what he does and would never let you leave without being 100% thrilled about your hair. He is also very quick for those of you who are impatient like me.

April is still a genius with the eyebrows. She's fabulous. I have some difficult brows, and I had Aubrey do them once and they did not come out as well.

I had my hair cut for the first time in 2 years at this place. I was given some serious attitude by one of the stylists. You see, I am ass broke. And I really hate going to the salon. I hate making small talk. I hate having my hair pulled and pulled and pulled while it is getting dried. But I really needed a hair cut.

It was a pretty good cut. But man, what a snob. I happen to be a huge fan of box hair dye, I really like my color. I have gotten SO MANY compliments on my hair color. He kept nagging me to come back and let him do a professional color. Dude, I do not have $200 to drop every other month on hair color. I don't have 3 hours. And further, I have no one to impress. I am a student, I live in a pony tail and hoodies.

But I will keep coming back to April... the hair stylists though, ugh. Whatever.

I honestly want to give more that 5 stars.  Seriously, Candice is that amazing.  I wish I had taken before and after photos.  I walked into Alex and Emilio with dark chocolate hair.  I left with multidimensional blond locks.  My hair is silky, shiny, smooth... hard to believe after the amount of work it took to get it there.  Making that drastic of a change can kill your hair if you don't go to the right person... I am so luck that I got in with Candice.  She took her time and did everything right.
The price of this salon is worth it... everyone deserves a little luxury in their life.
Make sure to bring change for the meter and cash for the tip!

I moved back to Michigan not dreading the cold, but instead, dreading the painful task of finding a new hairdresser.

At the recommendation of a friend, I called Alex Emilio Salon. I believe her exact quote was, "Call and ask for Roman. He's a hair God." Sweet, that works.

I was so excited about my hair appointment that I went a week early. My appointment was for Thursday, May 29th and I showed up Thursday, May 22. They were super nice about my airhead-ness, though, and scheduled me in for a later appointment that day.

I told Roman to do whatever he wanted with my hair - I left with a new color and a sweet cut.

Salon is edgy and unique, more like something you would expect in New York or even LA.

I have been to this salon twice, as it had gotten good reviews in local magazines. I am not overwhelmed by the cuts they have given, however. I've never been unhappy with my cuts here, but I've never been blown away either.
Considering the prices here, I think I won't be returning for an average haircut.

I've visited this salon twice: First time(few years ago)- It started bad- I felt like the biggest idiot in the world. The girl who took my appointment scheduled me for a cut instead of a cut and color. Alex made time (I think he was the owner) but I could feel the negative vibes. He did a really great job but I never scheduled another appointment with him for fear of the same happening.

My second visit was with my mother- she was impressed with her color, and the cut was alright (she looked like one of the Beatles, very cool- but not her best look).  I went to a different stylist this time around- the cut was ok as was the color (I went from buttery blonde with baby highlights to a one process brown color- nothing special).  The color washed out rather quickly.

Overall, I'd stick to this salon for multi-dimensional color  and eyebrow shaping.

I've been going to Alex Emilio for years.  And I can definitely say that it is the best salon for me.  I have never been a salon type person. But I enjoy it here. I enjoy the people and they do a great job.

Both Emilio and Lindsey cut  my hair and they do a great job every time.  The other jewel of the salon is definitely April. See my eyebrows in my picture? That's all her. She's also an amazing makeup artist as well.

I know that's a lot of positive, but it's real. I'm a pretty picky person!

I've been going to Alex Emilio for over a year now. I have a tendency to switch salons very often. I can never commit! Since having Lindsey cut and color my hair I'm hooked! She does a great job! She knows what she's doing with the color and if she thinks something won't work she isn't afraid to speak up. I usually tell her to just do what she feels works best with my hair and go with the flow. I haven't been disappointed in her creations yet!

I get my lid did by Lyndsey and my brows groomed by Aubrey. They're both fantastic artists and help to elevate my style, which ekes away a bit more with the passing years. Prices are reasonable, to me - I've lived in Chicago and have become somewhat immune to spending money on hair. It's tough to get appointments with either so I have to book well in advance, and due to my own unpredictable schedule I am sometimes forced to go a little longer between grooming appointments. You can't miss me at those times - I'm the uni-browed shaggy Komondor-looking chick running in screaming for help.

I used to go to this salon, but got sick of the traffic driving from where i live.  However, if I lived in the area, I would continue going to this salon.  Roman was my stylist, and he is aMAZing with highlights.  I was referred to him by a friend and I have referred many friends to him as well, and every single one of us loves him.  He is friendly, and the best colorist I have ever been to.  Great cuts as well.   It is hard to get an appointment though, so book in advance.

I have to give a big shout out to Laura Rose.  She is just fantastic.  I have wild, naturally curly hair, and she does a great job with it.  At the same time, she does a great job with the pin-straight, thick, wiry hair of my Asian children. My daughter has special needs, and it is pretty hard to deal with her (hair cuts freak her out), but Laura is incredibly patient and totally wonderful with her.

You can get a decent haircut here, but they are on the inconsistent side.  Sometimes they are detail-oriented, using a flat iron to make sure the cut is just perfect.  Other times, they hardly even style you, and I need another haircut after a month.  I recently switched over to Edwin Paul in Grosse Point after they cancelled my appointment hours before I was supposed to come in.

I had my haircut a while back and it was just ok. I had a newer girl so that might have been the reason why. I gave her a picture of what I wanted and the end result was mediocre and not that accurate. The front desk is also a little pushy on the rebooking.  I did like the free samples they gave out which was a plus. I would probably request a more experienced person if I went back.

Look, you wear your hair every day...so why not invest in it?  Roman is, without a doubt, the best stylist I have ever had.  He is efficient, yet thorough.  What other stylists take 3 hours to do, he gets it done in half the time.  My highlights have never looked better.  My husband can't stop complimenting me on my hair!  So while the prices are a little steeper than some neighboring salons (but standard, really), Roman is worth every penny.

I finally used my Groupon yesterday, and I'm just sorry I waited so long.  I expected a trendy Royal Oak salon to be snobby, and worried the cuts would be edgy, but from the moment I called to make my appointment everyone I encountered was extremely friendly and professional, and the stylists were all very naturally beautiful, as were the styles of the customers I saw.
I asked Lauren to recommend color and cut for me.  She took my hay-colored (and textured) hair, and suggested that we highlight it with a darker blond.  Later she added lowlights, too.  And when she rinsed me out, she put a color block on my hair to mask the remaining gray.  The result is very natural and healthy-looking.
She also cut a ton of hair off the top of my thick and frizzy main, while leaving most of the lower length.  The result is light, airy and again, very natural looking, and I think I'll be able to manage the style myself.
The only downside was the blow dry.  Lauren later admitted she didn't have much experience with curly hair, and she diffused my hair upside down.  WIthout the length and the weight of the hair to hold it down, and with minimal product, I looked like a cross between Bozo and Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner - not exactly the look I was going for (or the look Lauren expected).
All in all though, if you can afford it (prices are on the high side of moderate), and you're looking for natural, healthy looking hair, I recommend you give Alex Emilio a try.
