I first heard about this place when I read in Foobooz that Marc Vetri and Stephen Starr frequented here, so I was intrigued.  I stopped in randomly on a Sunday at around 3PM.  The place was pretty dead, but at least they were open!  I got a slice of pepperoni, and it was pretty good.  It was thin, cheesy, and had a good amount of sauce that wasn't too sweet.  The pizza could have been a little crispier and I'm not a fan of a big crust, so the crust could have been smaller, but it wasn't too doughy and it tasted good.  This place is relatively close to my office and they deliver, so I think this will be my go-to place for pizza delivery at work.

    Updated - 1/16/2012 1 photo 9 Check-ins Here

Time to update my review. I have ordered from here many times within the past few years and the food has remained consistent. It is pretty good and usually worth the price. Now what brings this place down is the customer service. I've ordered food here before and told them my order exactly, and when it was delivered or picked up there was something missing. The one time there was a hair in the salad. Ok mistakes happen but when I called to complain to either get a refund or a new salad, the manager in charge tried to tell me I was wrong, that all of his employees wear the proper haircare. The hair wasn't mine nor any of my coworkers, it was embedded in the salad and was definitely placed there during its making. I finally got them to accept that it was their fault and they offered me credit on my next order. That my "name was in the system" and I can get something equal to that next time I order.

Which brings me to my next order. I call in to place an order and to make good on their offer for a credit. The manager tells me he can't find my name in the system, and that my name isn't on the board for "credits". I argued with him until he finally gave me what was promised a week or so ago (this happened within a span of 1-2 weeks.)

And there was another confrontation. Just recently I placed an order and went to pick it up. Shame on me for not checking the food completely upon pick up but when I got to my work I noticed there were two main ingredients that I mentioned missing from my breakfast sandwich...cheese and ham. I called to complain and the guy looks at the order in his computer and says that everything is correct, that we ordered egg sandwiches. I told him that the person on the phone didn't take the order right, why would I order just egg in a hoagie roll? That's boring and has no flavor. I told him i want two new sandwiches brought out to me free of charge due to this mistake, and after some arguments he agreed, but wanted to charge me for the ham and cheese. NO, you put the order wrong in the system, it's not my fault your employees did that! After I told him it would be PROPER customer service to comp the whole new sandwich and delivery they made the sandwiches and sent them out to me, but it was like pulling teeth to get it done!

All in all the food here is good, it's just when there's an issue with your food and you aren't eating at the establishment, they'll give you a HELL of a time fixing the problem.

I ordered a delivery from Alessandros yesterday.  The cool thing was that I ordered online, and the food arrived in what seemed like no time.  I got fried mushrooms, which were pretty good, and a small white pizza, which was very, very tasty.  It was cheesy and garlicky, and the crust was perfect.  The delivery guy was also nice.  I'd definitely order from here again.

In addition to pizza, they have platters, pasta, wings, sandwiches, burgers, cheese steaks, wraps, breakfast sandwiches, seafood, chicken dinners, hoagies, salads, fries, etc.

UPDATE:  I've downgraded this place from 4 stars to 3.  I ordered pizza from them again.  All I wanted was a pizza with fresh mozzarrella, fresh tomatoes, and basil, but what I got was a pie covered in disgustingtly too-sweet sauce, some basil flakes, and seriously about 3 slices of fresh mozzarrella, which was not enough to cover the whole pie.  My boyfriend and friend were grossed out by the pizza, as well.  I don't think I'd order from here again.

I have only ordered from this place once but the quality of the pizza was such that I don't think I'll be ordering again.

I'm all for greasy cheesy un-fancy pizza. I am. But there should be a certainly quality to the pie. The pizza I ordered online (which as Kelly said is a nice feature and certainly user friendly) came in a reasonable amount of time-scratch that, it came within the time frame they said (45 minutes)- but the result was wonky.

My main issue was the cheese. The consistency of it was way weird, not gooey. It was sort of sedentary, if that makes any sense...what I mean is that the cheese did not stretch as you lifted a slice from the whole, it simply sat. Mushy and weird. Bleh.

If you have read Theodore H's review from 1/16/2012 you can pretty much skip mine because I had the same AWFUL experience.  I will never order from here again, there are many other pizzarias in the area that will deliver the correct order without the hassle and attitude.  My company was having a small meeting in our office in Northern Liberties.  Alessandro's had dropped a menu in our mail slot that morning so we decided to try them for our meeting.  The front of the menu stated that if you register for online ordering you'd get 10% off your first order.  We signed up to order online but had to request the confirmation e-mail (required to complete the order and receive any specials or discounts) be resent multiple times.  Half an hour had gone by  when the confirmation e-mail finally came and we were ready to order!  The menu seemed confusing and organized in a way that made no sense.  After being unsure if we were going to get what we wanted through the online order form (and finding out the 10% off offer was nonexistant) we decided to just order on the phone.  We ordered 4 pizzas, 1 plain 3 with toppings, and 2 20pc boneless wings, one hot and one honey bbq.  We asked for 2 extra ranch and 2 extra bleu cheese for the wings.  45 minutes later the delivery driver called to find out which unit we were in. He wound up calling back 2 more times after he drove past me standing outside in the cold waving.  We tipped him ten dollars, got all the food inside and noticed we were missing our plain pie.  I checked the receipt which was more confusing (it listed 2 large plain pizzas and then beneath said pepperoni).  When I called to inquire what happened and re-order that plain pie the guy who had taken my original order immediately was defensive and told me I did not order that.  I stopped him and said, "I'm not trying to start an arguement over the phone of what I did or did not order.  It was the first thing I said, I was reading off of a list from employees who decided what they wanted.  You repeated it back to me, but it isn't on our receipt so clearly there was miscommuncation somewhere along the way."  The guy continued to get more defensive and rudely told me that I did not order the plain pizza and if I wanted one I would have to pay for it.  The manner in which he said it was like I was trying to rip him off the whole time!  I never said I wouldn't pay for it, I was the one who pointed out to him that it wasn't on our receipt! I told him to forget it and instantly his attitude changed and he said "okay have a nice night".  Are you kidding?  To add insult to injury the food was mediocre at best (boneless wings looked like the corners no one wants on chicken tenders) and the service was clearly AWFUL. NEVER AGAIN will I order from here.

My second visit to Philly, and pizza and wings are always a must with my buddy and I. We ordered a large half cheese half Hawaiian pizza. The cheese pizza is good but artery clogging. I'd pass on the Hawaiian next time. Their wings are pretty good too. They're just a little on the small size.

We also ordered an Antipasto salad for the gf. She needs her fiber! The salad was huge and prob had 2lbs of meat on top.

They have a good selection of beer and sell singles. I suggest the Yuengling Black and Tan.

I have ordered delivery from here quite a few times and am usually pleased with the timing of the delivery and quality of the food.

There pizza is not bad, compared to most pizza joints in Philly their pizza is a lot better. They also have 'Rustic Sandwiches' on their menu that are pretty solid. I have had both the buffalo chicken and chicken ceaser sandwiches and both were very good, came with fries and were under $7.00.

They also have curly fries, which are freaking awesome.

Overall, its a solid delivery pizza joint that is reasonably priced. If you are looking for a cheap night in then def give this place a try.

Since I now work nearby and there is not much in the way of choices, I walked in to Alessandro's for lunch today.  It was about 12:45 and crowded but not mobbed.  A nice lady named Christina took my order for a Chicken Gyro - no onions - and a drink to stay.  The total was just under $8.00.

My gyro came out (they announce orders over a microphone) in about 6 minutes and was hot and fresh - and loaded with sliced chicken breast.

Tables were clean and new looking.

Pizza slices (under a glass display) did not appeal to me, so I can't comment on their pizza yet - but for a quick gyro lunch - this was just fine.  I will porbably be back once I have tried out all the local lunch spots.

I have only ordered delivery from Alessandro's.  We order from there a couple times per month.  The their prices are reasonable, and their crust is very good.  I didn't give five stars because they get the toppings incorrect sometimes.  It has never been anything major though.  Delivery is almost always on time or early and the drivers are very nice.

So far I haven't had anything I didn't like from Alessandro's.  One strange thing though, occasionally part of the bottom of the crust will have something burned on the bottom.  It is like the pizza was set on some sauce or something before cooking.  Their salads are HUGE and come with a lot of stuff on them.  The pizza and stromboli are excellent.  Also, their menu is quite large.  The even have breakfast.

I've lost track of how many times I've ordered from this place.  They're just a couple of blocks away, so they're my go to when I come home bushed from work.
The service is quick and friendly enough.  They must keep your preferences on record with your number because they somehow seem to know how I like each thing I order.
Love their cheeseburger hoagie, you can modify it however you'd like.  Italian and Regular hoagie are good as well.  You also can't go wrong with their mega fries.  Big steak fries topped with a couple of difference cheeses and big chunks of bacon.
Southwest wrap is pretty awesome.  And very heavy.  They don't skimp.
Triple deckers are very good.  Have ordered the chicken salad and BLT a few times (only complain is the bacon is fatty - like... more fatty than you'd typically find bacon and not as crispy as I'd like.)
The wings are pretty good, as well as the pizza.  Not my favorite for either, but also better than a majority of places.
I wouldn't suggest ordering things like "mini tacos" - they're basically just frozen pieces of fried something stuffed with a meat of some sort.  Something you'd buy in a box at a grocery store.
As long as you're sticking with the basics - hoagies, sandwiches, pizzas, wings - I don't think this place can let you down.

I just moved to the area and we were working on our house so I decided to go grab us a quick pizza at seemingly the only food spot within reasonable walking distance. It was mediocre. That's about all I can say. And slightly pricy for what we got.
