This place is so damn cute your head might explode. We chatted with an affable woman I assume was Alena Jean. She said her parents still live next door and she grew up in the place. Her brother still lives behind the garden.
We walked up and immediately saw two cats (not for sale) stretched out and sunning themselves in the middle of a walkway. Then we met the resident pooch (not for sale) who seems to run the place. We then ran into Alena Jean and her chubby-faced, gregarious baby (not for sale). We toured the garden in the back, which has secrets behind every leaf and around every planter. You'll find a fish pond, a model train and hidden sculptures (all not for sale).
We did find a birdhouse (for sale) and some succulents (for sale), and we plan to return to inquire about whether the baby is on the market. -

Alena Jean and her staff made my wedding a true splash of color, design and whimsy. The guests were blown away as I the bride was. Alena Jean is fun to work with incorporated my antique fan, feathers, colors, and took off running. It was glorius. She and her team are an asset not only to the events they design but also the Half Moon Bay community. Alena Jean's put us on the map.

Alena Jean designed and created gorgeous coordinating bridal/bridesmaids' bouquets, groom's boutonniere, and a floral cake topper for my wedding. Alena is a true artist; I highly recommend her!
Visiting Alena Jean's flower shop & nursery in Half Moon Bay is a treat, both in terms of horticultural splendor, and genuinely warm customer service.
After discussing my wedding plans with Alena Jean, as well as some colors and flowers to which I respond, her astute and creative suggestions and inspirations made me feel one hundred percent confident to let her follow her bliss in designing my wedding arrangements. I am so happy that I did, because seeing the final results was one of the many happy surprises of my wedding day! Each arrangement was truly original, and stunning in terms of color, shape, texture, and style. Thank you, Alena Jean! -

I called the day before to order a bouquet and a boutineer after finding Alena Jean on the always dependable Yelp app on my phone and after seeing 30 plus reviews for 5 stars, it was a no-brainer. My sister picked them up for us and the bouquet came out absolutely beautiful. The boutineer was a perfect match too. Very happy to give them our business, we loved the flowers so much we went to the store to thank them ourselves.

My husband get me flowers from Alena Jean for every special occasion...how lucky am I? The arrangements are so unique and beautiful they really are not like any other arrangements I have ever seen. After Valentine's Day I kept my bouquet well into the end of February and was really sad to see it go!
She uses everything from cabbage like "flowers" to feathers and for Valentine's day she only used one red rose and it was more spectacular than any dozen roses! -

Alena was easily one of our favorite wedding vendors. From our initial meeting we knew she was going to be the perfect florist. We had no idea what flower was what, and our only instructions were "we want bright colors of raspberry, peach etc and soft round flowers, nothing sharp." We were embarrassed to know so little but she was very patient and kind about it. She allowed us to provide our own centerpieces (birdcages), which she stored happily in the weeks before the wedding. I made an error in purchasing candles that were too large, and Alena was kind enough to find the right size for my centerpieces and swapped them out without issue.
The day of the wedding, deliveries were made right on time, which was a huge help to the photographer who couldn't get started without them. She translated our instructions into beautiful centerpieces, bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres in the exact colors and shapes we wanted. I was so impressed when I finally saw everything together upon arriving at the venue, and was only sad when I realized Alena wasn't one of my guests- I really just wanted to give her a big hug and thank her.
I would recommend her to any bride- she is a gem, artist, and great person all around. -

I've been meaning to visit Alena Jean since we moved to HMB two years ago. I needed to get out of the house for some light exercise and inspiration (I'm 38 weeks pregnant as I write this) and decided on Alena Jean's and the surrounding garden nursery as my destination.
The beauty and energy of the store and nursery filled me to the brim. Between the lovely hospitality of Alena and the charm of her store (and her cute rescue dog, of course), it was a wonderful visit. Alena put together a very sweet bouquet of roses, and gave me some helpful flower arranging instruction too.
I'm looking forward to a return visit with my baby. -

Alena just did our wedding. The flowers were wonderful. I also loved working with her, the whole process was great from concept to completion! We were looking for black and white flower arrangements for our theme, and she did great, including berries, and succulent into the corsages, boutonnieres, and bouquets. It is also always lovely to drop by her shop and say hi. She always has awesome things to see.

I never liked plants. I don't have a "green thumb" and I know this so I just stuck to cut flowers that I could toss out in a few days, but somehow I got stuck with a guy who loves flowers and yuzu trees and growing his own herbs and feeding our scraps to his worm farm. Hi Eugy!
So we're out on date day and we see this place. He suggested we stop by. Sure, why not. This place is super cute and the lady who runs the place is really nice and helpful. And her dog Luna is beautiful!
We walked away with some herbs and a meyer lemon tree. Oh don't worry about me killing any of them. Eugy will be the one watering them. ha! -

This is the most gorgeous flower and plant shop ever! Alena is so sweet (as well as her dog Luna and baby girl) and her staff are so helpful. It was a joy to work with her on my wedding flowers. They were gorgeous and I will enjoy buying floral gifts from her in the future. Don't buy online...buy local and go to Alena Jean!

(sigh...), this place is the perfect secret garden. I must admit I have been stalking Alena Jean (the place, not the person ;-) since I bought a house and have been thinking about landscaping.
Alena's father does landscape design behind the garden shop he landscaped the rear park like yard and her mother does the gardening from what I understand. I wish I had a budget to hire them all because this place is definitely my inspiration.
They have lots of great plants, appropriate for the coastside and always willing to order what they don't have. The sales folks are always super helpful and available (unlike bigger nurseries). Plus, they do cut flower arrangements! -

Alena's great - she's doing the flower arrangements for our wedding, and she's been fabulous to work with. Very friendly and outgoing, and she has excellent design sense. I gave her a general idea of what I wanted, and she immediately began describing beautiful blooms she'd use in the bouquets and arrangements. I have total confidence in her.
Everything associated with a wedding costs too much, and flowers are no different. However, in a world of over-priced wedding supplies, Alena's flowers are very reasonable.Listed in: Nuptial Bliss

Alena did such an amazing job with our wedding flowers. We showed up at her shop with only a few pictures and absolutely no idea what flowers we wanted (let alone the names of flowers). Alena was patient and fun as she walked up through some ideas and helped us visualize the flowers for our wedding. Alena always responded quickly to my emails and accommodated a few last minute requests. She is very familiar with our venue, so she knew exactly what would work and fit the theme. Our flowers were AMAZING and unique, I LOVE my bouquet. Alena has the cutest shop! If I lived closer I would visit all the time. I recommend Alena for all of your floral purchases!

I agree with the other posters in that Alena is best with few strict instructions :), not to say that she can't follow strict instructions but her passion is clear when you let her to her own. We were blown away with her final designs and so excited when we walked into our wedding reception and saw all the detail and beauty she put into our arrangements. My bouquet was stunning, I LOVED it!!! She was so much fun to work with and although I was 2 1/2 hours away I always wanted to go there and meet her personally becaused I love her beautiful place! I highly recommened Alena!

i like small little towns. its not because i like "main street usa" but because of shops like this.
u c, i went to santa cruz (you see what i did there, clever huh?!?!?). i lived at merril college my freshman year and i think it had a big effect on me.
organic this and that, sustainable this and that.... shit my dorm was next to a farm. id go by every so often and check out the progress of compost heaps, check out how the new irrigation system is working.....
i love to garden. something about it is very pleasing to me. perhaps its the fact that no matter how much money or time you put at it today, it wont work unless you consistently put time into it. like everything good in life, you have to work at it to make it work.
so this place has the cutest dog. luna is such a sweetheart.
the shop itself, you can easily forget its a shop. it feels more like your aunt who loves gardening house.
i picked up some random stuff, some herbs, a house plant....i asked if it was ok to grow indoors, the lady said its been acclimated for indoors.... oh i love plant geek talk.
i also bought a dwarf meyer lemon tree. i was looking for a dwarf yuzu, but perhaps next time.
and to top it all off, the prices were more than reasonable. i was expecting about 30% more, but was pleasantly surprised when i paid.
so lets see...
i cook and during prep, i get veggie scraps... i put that into my worm bin, that eats that stuff up and leaves behind awesome soil. i use that soil to grow herbs and trees and shit, which i in turn use for cooking....
the circle of life.
oh and ladies, i clean floors and clean bathrooms too, but nope, im taken. too bad. -

Alena is really great gal and a very good floral designer. We stopped by her garden shop Memorial weekend for the Art Faire she was putting on. Way cool and what a nice little shop. Lots of interesting and unusual plants, all well cared for and fresh looking. Wonderfully unique gift items. This is very nice place to find something different for the avid gardener that has everything..... 'cause they don't and it's here!

Alena did the flowers for my wedding after I'd had trouble getting called back by the woman I'd originally hired. Alena was amazing. I was a bit frazzled and dealing with a smaller budget but she created exactly what I had dreamed of only better. She is a wonderful person and never made me feel bad thatI wanted low key flowers or that I had a strict budget. She was creative, imaginative, and kind. And she always emailed me back promptly! I can't say enough good things about her and the beautiful flowers she created for our wedding. I highly highly highly recommend her.

I will preface all my reviews of vendors in Half Moon Bay by saying this: HMB is a great place to get married for relaxed/low-maintenance brides (which I think I was!) if you are, Alena is the PERFECT florist for you. (and also, I work in a creative field so the details ARE important to me - especially when it comes to design/flowers, etc.)
First, she is adorable. (besides appearance) I mean her enthusiasm and demeanor - just put you at ease. She is creative and resourceful, I didn't have a huge flower budget but she made everything AMAZING. I set her lose on the rehearsal dinner flowers and she came up with AWESOME arrangements and people raved about them all weekend. I gave her parameters and let her do her thing (which I think is how she works best). My bouquet was perfect - everything she did was. Elegant, creative and beautiful - what any bride wants.
Bonus points for an adorable garden and dog - I was above and beyond pleased with everything she did - totally exceeded expectations - HIRE ALENA to do your flowers and you will be a very happy bride! : ) -

This woman is Awesome. I am having a wedding next year near by in La Honda and i met with Alena. So relaxed and well versed has a great sense of design. I love her shop you feel all creative and want to design when you are there. Just a perfect Half Moon Bay nursery. I am a control freak and a capricorn (which is basically the same thing!) I have extremely high standards and being that this is my wedding, I have full confidence with Alena and her listening to my vision for my wedding.

Alena Jean designed the flowers for our wedding in Half Moon Bay and she did an absolutely remarkable job!!! We had a pretty small budget to work with and we wanted something simple yet elegant and that's exactly what we got. She even delivered the flowers herself and helped all the ladies put on their corsages. Her shop in Half Moon Bay is absolutely adorable and filled with lots of great plant and flowers.

I found this great little nursery by accident, when I was wandering around Half Moon Bay. The garden behind the shop is incredible, and there are some great, unusual plant varieties for sale. These people are obviously passionate about plants. The person running the shop was knowledgeable and friendly. This is now my favorite little place to check out when near downtown HMB.

This is the little known gem on the coast! If you are looking for a beautiful environment to peruse a selection of plants and accessories, look no more. Alena Jean has it all. It is without the doubt the cutest little store and the most friendly proprietor! I loved the knowledge that I learned from just one visit and came home with an array of flowers not to mention a lovely little sign for the front of my home. So glad Angelo next door was taking care of my car so I had time to come over..

I recently got married in Half Moon Bay and Alena provided us with the most beautiful flowers! When we first met Alena, we had no idea what we wanted, what we liked or disliked. Alena was very relaxed and helpful, took lots of notes, gave some suggestions and perfectly captured the color and essence of our wedding. I cried when I saw my bouquet - it was stunning! If you need help with your wedding flowers, please meet with Alena. Or if you know exactly what you want, I know Alean will capture it for you. She is absolutely brilliant. An intimate and positive nursery, offering some unusual plants. Certainly worth a visit. Take a stroll all the way around the back garden. Not for a full-scale diverse landscaping like Half Moon Bay Nursery, but still a great place for unusual plants and gifts. One of the more genuine, non-tourist traps in HMB.
