Attention Safeway shoppers!!!
In exchange for a few hours of your time and the willingness to get some dirt under your nails (although I suppose you could wear surgical gloves to protect your manicure), you can have access to yummy, organic produce grown right here in San Francisco.
Alemany Farm (yes, a farm) grows tomatoes, lettuce, green beans, onions, garlic, broccoli, chard, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, collards, chard, kale, strawberries, spinach, carrots, beets, basil, peppers, apples, and a bunch of fruits and veggies I have forgotten. They also have a bee colony.
Skip the produce aisle and grab your sunscreen for a fun day at the farm. You will find the farm right across the street from the 280 Freeway, a few blocks west of the Alemany Farmers' Market.
Kids and non green thumbed adults welcome. Check the calendar for volunteer days. -

Love the farm! Love the Staff! Love the veggies and fruits! To pick the edibles that day and eat them that night is sheer indulgence and energizing to my body and mind. A great place to commune with the dirt, plants, butterflies fluttering about and of course, great conversations with your fellow planters and weeders. And the best part of all, everything grown helps feed others who cannot afford to pay for overpriced food in the grocery stores. A win-win for all that is connected with Alemany Farm! Thanks for your contribution to SF!

Alemany Farm really is as good as it gets. On a nice day, you don't mind pulling weeds. Especially when there is some sure fire produce coming your way during harvest time.

I loved learning about the history of the farm and how it's evolved and really taken into consideration the community needs. Keep up the good work!
