Surprisingly decent mexican food in unassuming location on K Street. I find that the best way to rate mexican food is to stay consistent and compare their tacos. With that in mind, I ordered the Taco Platter. Get this: Price $3.75.
Beans
Delicious mild flavor. Not too salty. Topped with shredded cheese.
Rice
Passable. Not offensive
Taco
Double soft corn shell. Piping hot. Cilantro. Great flavor. Mild. Of course, can add salsa.
Horchata
Best Horchata I've ever tried.
Served to my table. Outstanding fast service. Addressed as "sir." Not the patronizing type of "sir" either. Very clean restaurant.

This is probably one of my favorite (and most frequented) lunch spots.
Why I Like It:
- The food is *always* good, no matter what you get.
- The line is usually terrifyingly long but moves really quickly, even when it's out the door. Don't get discouraged from going there when you see the line. I've never stood in line there more than six or seven minutes.
- The complementary chips aren't stale.
- Good salsa bar with pickled carrots, limes, and jalapenos.
- The shredded beef is delicious and spicy.
- The rice is usually fresh and good.
- I usually order no beans on combo plates from mexican places, but I actually really like theirs.
- Cheap prices.
- Generous portions.
- To-go boxes for when you can't finish your meal (I never do).
- Really friendly service, and though you order at the counter they bring you your food when it's ready.
- I've never waited more than five or six minutes to get my food.
- Their breakfast is excellent. The chorizo is fabulous and the breakfast burritos are A+ quality.
- When you order the combo meals, it comes with rice, beans, and a salad that has chunky salsa, sour cream, and guacamole on it. Depending on what you get, it's delicious to add to your taco or enchilada, or just eat with chips.
- The entire place is clean and they are constantly bussing tables and keeping everything orderly.
- The food is greasy enough to satisfy that kind of craving, but not gross-greasy.
- They're friendly and accomidating with customizations on orders and take extra care if you are vegetarian or vegan.
- No lard in the beans.
- There are napkin holders on the table so you don't have to keep getting up and down.
- There are trays you can put your dishes into but they don't get pissed if you leave your dishes on the table.
- There is a large variety of seating (booths, small tables, bar seating, and a couple big long tables for groups).
- The decor is cheesy but awesome, and they always have Mexican radio stations on softly that really add to the atmosphere without taking themselves too seriously.
- The nachos are bitchin.
I honestly don't have any complaints. I've always had good experiences, good food, and enjoyed the good prices. If you're in the area, try it!

I went without high expectations. I had a pastor torta and it was messy but good. My friend had the enchilada plate and talk about a generous portion. I am totally going to get that the next time. It is rare that you can get lunch for less than $5 downtown these days, it is good to see that you can at this place. The service was fast, the restaurant was clean, and the food was good. It isn't the best Mexican in town, but it is only a few blocks from where I work so I will be going back.
Got a breakfast burrito there this morning while doing a pedestrian count. Cheap and good, very clean inside. Wish they had some steak or beef ready in the morning for the burritos. I had the potato and egg burrito and was pretty good. Quick too!
Sometimes you go to work with a hangover, it happens. This place can help!
Large portions (burrito = half for lunch and half for dinner)
Greasy but not too greasy
Fast, friendly service
Reasonable prices ($5 burrito, $3.75 taco plate)
The pastor actually has a little kick to it
Chips and salsa are both satisfactory
It's also one of the only places on K street where folks don't come in spanging or screaming about the CIA or trying to sell you bus transfers. Huge plus.
In sum, Alejandro's is obviously not the best Mexican food in Sacramento, but it's definitely the best taqueria in the downtown / midtown / East Sac grid region.
And yes, it's good here sans hangover too!
*Not open on weekends.
The space currently occupied by Alejandro's Taqueria was once a Taco Bell. Now, making adaptive reuse of a former fast-food joint seems like a sensible thing for any new restaurant: you don't have to do much remodeling as there is already a kitchen, and since the theme is the same it seems like redecorating would be a non-issue. Alejandro's, however, didn't seem to think this was enough, and the restaurant is gaily festooned with decor that reminds you that this is, in fact, a Mexican restaurant and no longer the simulated mass-produced Mexican restaurant substitute that is Taco Bell. And if that doesn't prompt you sufficiently, there's always the food.
It's not heart-rendingly good, but it's pretty good. Many judge a Mexican restaurant by its burritos, but personally I base it on the taco. The taco plate there is a real bargain: $3.75 for a taco with rice and beans. The carnitas on my taco was simultaneously crispy and chewy, not overly spiced. The salsa was also quite good, although I didn't try every variety.
Service was fast, fast fast. I arrived in time for the lunch rush, and despite the fact that the line to order stretched nearly to the door, my order was taken within a couple of minutes, and my food was at my table before I had finished filling my water cup at the beverage station. The staff are friendly. The restaurant itself wishes you ADIOS as you leave, painted above the door on the way out, but I know that I'll be back before long.

I eat here twice a week for lunch with the same friend. Count these five stars twice for a ten star rating!
Recommendation: Super Quasadilla or beef tacos. awesomeness.

Just got back from my lunch here. We stopped here after visiting the Farmer's Market at Cesar Chavez Park (Wednesdays). It's about 1:10pm and there's still quite a few people eating at the tables, but there are plenty of open tables to eat at. The place is bigger than it looks from outside. We order, grab some salsa, water and then head for a table. 2 minutes later our food arrives. I ordered a Super Burrito with carnitas and my friend orders the same except with Carne Asada. The Super Burritos cost about $5 each and are a hair smaller than a burrito from Chipotles. The burritos are pretty good and very satisfying. The staff are friendly and the place is clean. I would definately recommend this place to my friends who work downtown.
I really shouldn't write this review, since I'm basically going to parrot Moa h. and add a few extra bits, but overall, he's right.
It's inexpensive, huge food. I wasn't impressed with the salsa (Los Jarritos is still the only taqueria in town whose salsa is what I consider good), and my burrito was kind of bland, but it wasn't bad, even considering that.
I actually don't go there that often, because cheap as it may be, I'm usually hitting the Capitol Park Cafe or Hana's Corner instead, as they're better cheap spots in that neighborhood, but if it's gotta be mexican, and it's gotta be in the K Street Corridor, then Alejandro's won't gross you out.

oh alejandro's. this is the perfectly efficient and cheap lunch spot in downtown sac. even when the line is long, you get your food within 10 minutes. the owner always works the register and greats you with a great smile. you get a number, chips, cup of water, and can scavenge the salsa bar.
maybe i'm just nostalgic for arizona, but i really like the mexican-flag-painted-bricks and rest of the cheesy decor. it just makes sense for a cheap lunch joint.
one of my state worker bee buddies really likes the chicken enchiladas a la carte. i usually just order a grilled chicken burrito. the whole menu seems like traditional mexican, cheap and pretty tasty.
while i prefer la fiesta taqueria for my weekend burrito, alejandro's satisfies the weekday fix.
