This evening at Aldo's we had such a great meal and service that we had to shake the waiter's hand and introduce ourselves before we left. Everything here made up for the previous night's dinner at a different establishment. My boyfriend ordered the calamari fra diavolo and remarked that Aldos made it the way it should be made. I couldn't believe how different the dish looked from what we saw some place else last night. He was purring like a lion as he ate it. I ordered the gnocchi in the bolognese sauce. Delicious. It was the sauce that really made the dish. Some of the best tasting tomato sauce I've ever had. I've ordered this dish here before and have always been happy with it. We started with the house salad which was not your typical house salad. Lots of roasted peppers among other things. The dressing was a type of creamy Italian but not your typical - tasted a bit more unique. As for the waiter, our wine glasses and water glasses were never empty, and he served us within minutes of us sitting. He also answered our questions without hesitation when we asked about their potential relocation. Turns out they will be moving to a nearby location still in Wyckoff. I'll go anywhere Aldo wants me to for his bolognese sauce.

We've been here 2x's in the last month or so. I must say, the food exceeded my expectations the first visit... but was a disappointment on the second visit.
The portions are large. We ordered individual apps + entree and had to take most of it home. Some of the app portions would be considered entrees in other places.
I'd recommend the eggplant app as a meal. It's huge and the only consistently good dish we encountered over both visits. -

Was there Saturday night, just couldn't get past the "face brute" at front desk, for the non Italians, two hostesses with mean scowels, not even a smile. What a way to set a mood for the evening.

I came here for the 1st time about 2 months ago with my boyfriend. For an appetizer we had the Mozzerella and Roasted Peppers and for my entree I had the penne bolognese. It was fantastic. The actual restaurant was very nice too....verrryyyy Italian lol. The music was all in Italian, all of the waiters had thick Italian accents. This is as close to real italian food as you can get. It's a little upscale but jeans and a NICE top would be acceptable. But you could also go all decked out and not feel awkward. Parking is scarce so prepare to walk but it's definitely worth it. It's one of my favorite restaurants. We're actually going back this weekend. Can't wait.

I never understood the hype of this place. The food is food is alright and the service is good. There are better options out there for Italian food but it would be perfect if you wanted to stay local.

I've been eating at Aldo's since it was a tiny, tiny storefront. That was a long time ago, in the big eighties! Over the years it has expanded a lot. But a few things have never changed -- the exceptional tortolini con panne and proscuitto. Always a winner. And, I think they have the best chicken francaise around. I've never, ever had a lousy meal here and I would say over the years it is the restaurant I have eaten most at in Bergen County.

After living in the area for about 20 yrs I decided to finally try this restaurant which everyone raves about. After my experience & reading the below reviews, my suspicions were confirmed. The decor is terrible and the service is just as bad.
The reason this place has stayed around so long is because they have a crowd of regulars (as you can tell from the 2 out of the 4 reviews listed below) that keeps them going. I know people who go here every Friday, so obviously they have good experiences.
The 1st time I went it was late on a Sunday night, while I realize this is not the ideal time for dining and good service I still expected to be blown away at least by the food which I heard was good. There was only one other table in the restaurant the entire time & the waitress was extremely rude. You could tell she just didn't want to be at work and just wanted to leave.
We ordered a caesar salad which tasted strange, not like your traditional caesar & I just couldn't put my finger on it. We each had an entree, both lacked flavor. I sent mine back as I could not even bare to eat it. I cant remember exactly what I had but it was pasta (maybe angel hair or spaghetti) with a mushroom sauce of some kind. It was absolutely terrible. My bf at the time had a pork dish which he wrapped to go. We walked out with out dessert & on empty stomachs pretty much.
I would never go back there again. -

The décor is gaudy. The meals looked great on the plate but they lacked flavor. My wife had the penne and I had chicken marsala.
I will say that the wait-staff was very attentive (maybe because only 2 tables were occupied & one was ours...that should have been my 1st clue what to expect). -

Best Italian food in area! The cheese bread and Brushetta is free and awesome...although they smartened up and charge for 2nds ;)

Good authentic Italian food, but far from the best I've ever had. The BYOB thing is a little strange for any restaurant, much less one that is fine dining. Luckily there's a bar/carryout just down the block which carries a nice selection of wines from multiple regions.
