I'm pregnant and had a major craving for shrimp fettucini alfredo. So i came here just wanting to satiate my craving. Being a major foodie and being in the food industry since a youngin, I already had a lowered expectation for restaurant alfredo (I've worked with great French and Italian chefs to know a good alfredo). Ordered their garlic knots (also lowered expectation) and shrimp alfredo. While it wasn't the best garlic knots and alfredo I've ever had, the knots were seasoned very well and had a great texture, and I knew my breath was going to kick after it :). The alfredo came out and I expected to season the crap out of it but surprisingly I just needed a pinch of table seasoning and it was very satisfying. The pasta was light (egg fettucini) and carried the flavor of the sauce and shrimp very well. My husband had the chicken Caesar salad. The dressing was house made. Light as well. Lots of chicken.
The service was ok. A young man served us. I think the only server on the floor. Nice kid. Ambience was very old school Italian.
Bottom line: I would come here again and bring company. This restaurant is par on the italian places list, while most others are far subpar. -

I moved away from CT a few years ago, and always try to get back to Aldo of Italy when I am in the area. They make a very good red sauce, their pasta e fagioli is very good (just a little weird because they use bow tie pasta instead of ditalini, but hey, the flavors are superb), but the pizza is what i really love. The
Mona Lisa- broccoli, fresh tomato, ricotta, garlic and mozzarella is like a little bit of heaven on a crust, cooked in the front and center oven to perfection. Try it, you'll like it. They also make it with spinach instead of broccoli, i can't remember what they call that one. -

I remember going to Aldo's when I was younger - in 7th and 8th grade - after seeing a movie for slices of pizza. I had not been back there in such a long time; I never really thought of going there for dinner.
I recently went to Aldo's with a group of 6 of us - and boy was I impressed!
We started out ordering 3 appetizers, calamari, fish salad, and clams casino. Soon after we ordered, 3 appetizers came out, but we noticed that they were not the apps we ordered. The waitress told us that the owner made them for us - he sent us 2 orders of bruschetta and 1 order of calamari inferno. SO delicious! The bruschetta was on freshly toasted bread and the tomatoes were very fresh. The calamari inferno was tasty - almost like fried calamari, but with hot peppers and sauce. We had to cancel 1 of our appetizers because we weren't sure we could eat everything!
Next were the salads - regular salad, the same as any restaurant.
Our meals came and mine looked so good. I went with the Clams and Mussels Marechiara - basically clams and mussels in a red sauce over linguini. I loved it. The clams and mussels were fresh, no signs of canned clams anywhere. The sauce was light. I wanted to eat the whole bowl, but I was too full and brought home the leftovers. Everyone else I was with really enjoyed their meals and we all said we would go back. Others ordered the eggplant rollatini, veal marsala, linguini with clam sauce and chicken parm. Everyone had enough food left to bring home for another meal!
The price was not bad at all for a party of 6. The food is authentic Italian, nothing processed here. I absolutely enjoyed it and will definitely be going back for dinner another time! -

I swear that this place was better when I was a kid. I think it changed hands a few years ago. The pizza is still fine, but not fantastic like it was back in the 90s. I used to love coming here and having a fresh pie and a Snapple. It was one of my favorite things in the world. Then my family and I would go to a movie at the Hoyt's Theatre (Holiday Cinema now).
Anyway, the waitresses are nice and the food is pretty good on the whole. A nice family restaurant, methinks. -

Nothing fancy inside, but the food is consistantly good. It's walking distance from the Mallview movie theater, so its an easy call after a movie.

Unless you are going to the nearby movie theatre this place is kind of hidden and not the first place you would think to go to. However, definitely if you are shopping in the area this is a really delicious place to get some Italian. I went here with my family yesterday and the food was delicious. I started out with hot garlic knots which were so delicious but very very verrrrrrry garlic-y...a little bit intense. My mom and I split a pizza which was a little bit crunchy but fresh and delicious. My dad had some ziti and sausage thing which he thoroughly enjoyed. No room for dessert but looking through the display glass they looked pretty tasty! Service was a little bit slow (but still friendly) It was fairly crowded for a Saturday afternoon. All in all nice Italian feel...not too formal but has a nice sit down area.

I'm normally one to avoid Italian restaurants, but it was hot as hell outside and I was in the area, so I stopped in. I intended to just order a drink, but ended up getting a shaved ice and eating it right at the entrance while I chatted with the staff. It was a lovely experience, and I'd consider going back. My only qualm is that I am rather short, and the counters and booths were either too close together or too high and made me feel sort of claustrophobic. But hey, if the service is that great all the time, I highly recommend it. The staff are friendly, welcoming people, even if you just want to stop in for a snack without getting an actual table!

Using Yelp, we found this restaurant on our drive home to NY from Maine. Although I would not say this is the best italian restaurant in CT, it was quite good for a local, red sauce place and definitly worth the slight detour to find it. First, the rolls are fresh and hot, delicious! Frank sent over some bruschetta on the house but I thought the plain rolls were better. The salad was quite ordinary, with bottled dressing. My penne a la vodka was very good, my husband had the assorted platter which he loved - I tasted the lasagna and thought it was very light with an excellent red sauce. Plenty of food to take home for another meal for each of us. If Aldo's stepped up their game with fresh, seasonal produce, home-made salad dressing and fresh grated cheese and pepper, I would say they could possibly be the best in CT. Stil, my husband and I were trying to think of excuses to go to Waterbury.
