I recently went to Alchemy and had a wonderful experience, Malite is a top notch aesthetician with an effective touch.
Finding quality organic products in a spa has been a challenge until now. The set up is quaint, clean yet warm and the artwork is very cheerful. During my facial I was in such a deep relaxation with Malite's touch and the amazing aromatherapy.
I enjoyed my facial so much that I sent a client over who had Lydia and her skin glowed as she raved about her experience.
I am happy to refer clients to Malite as she really knows her stuff. My skin is radiant. -

I had a good facial with Lydia at Alchemy, which is a spa that I can tell is a special place.
The salon consists of a front reception area, one treatment room and a bathroom in the back. You will be blown away by the attention to detail of this place: the aesthetics from the light-filled front and back rooms to the magical quality of the treatment room are really remarkable. I wish I lived in a space this gorgeous. There is something about the set-up that made me feel like I was utterly and solely the focus of the aesthetician for however long I intended to stay.
Lydia was quiet, did a good job on the extractions and a great job with massage. I fell asleep, I was so relaxed. She is shy, so I can't say I got any sense of who she was, which made the facial rather impersonal. Nevertheless, all the other elements of the experience felt very customer-focused, and she gave me a good summary of what was going on with my skin at the end.
It is a truly beautiful and quiet place, so if you're looking for a facial, Alchemy is a good option. They are currently offering a discount on Sundays (which was the day I went) and possibly other days--check in with them for the specifics.Listed in: Beauty and (taming) the Beast

3.5 stars based on one visit with a new esthetician (who was good but there was room for improvement).
I came here for a facial - it was a very cozy, relaxing atmosphere and beautifully decorated. The treatment room (there is just one, so it is a very personal experience) is kind of blissful and dreamy. Here's how the experience was for me:
Pros:
-The esthetician had very gentle hands and was great at massaging- I could have started purring during the massage part of the facial. I bet she would be great at massages.
-At some places where you get a facial, they leave you alone for like 10 minutes while the mask is setting; that doesn't happen here, you have her constant attention.
-Again, the place was really well decorated and had a soothing atmosphere. Definitely dreamy relaxing spa vibe.
-All organic products
A few cons:
-There was basically no extraction process when I got my facial. The esthetician let me know she was going to do extractions, and then pressed on my nose for less than a minute and told me the extractions were done. The pores on my nose and chin can get clogged, which is one of the reasons I go to get a facial a few times a year, so I know it takes more than that to get to the glowing skin I expect after a facial.
-It was a little pricey given I didn't feel like it left me glowing for more than the day I got it.
Also, it would have been nice to have some relaxing music playing. Most spas have a little background music, but here it was silent. That's just personal preference though.
Despite a few cons, I did have a relaxing experience at Alchemy, and overall enjoyed my facial.
**Also, an update- the owner (who everyone raves about on Yelp) - wrote me back quickly and let me know that was the first day for a new esthetician - so she may still learning the ropes. If you aren't as picky as me and prefer a very gentle facial with few extractions, than she would be more than fine. But I was impressed by the owner's response to me, her attention to detail, and her desire to address concerns. -

When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the owner Malite reached out to me to make my experience right. I look forward to receiving a facial from her personally next month.

I recently moved to the area and was on the hunt for a new spa to get regular facials. Since I have incredibly oily/congested skin I rely on regular facials to keep my skin glowing and clean. It had been several months since my last facial (I was so busy moving) and was looking forward to a thorough cleaning.
I'd like to start off by saying that Alchemy is a beautiful spa and provides a very nice relaxing atmosphere and my esthetician was very nice. My face was smeared with all kinds of products (which smelled and felt good) that are all organic and local (which is wonderful) but the extraction process (the most important part of a facial for my skin type) lasted about 5 minutes. I barely felt any extractions (and trust me, I KNOW how it feels and how long it takes for estheticians to do this for me) and was blown away when she said "your skin looks great" and she was done. I wanted to say something, but I should not have to tell a professional how to care for my skin (and I didn't want to put her on the spot). My skin looked exactly the same afterwards as it did when I came in for my facial, I just looked like I washed it.
I'd like to point out that the owner, Malite, was kind enough to reach out to me with concerns about my experience and because I understand that everyone has their "off days", I'm willing to give Alchemy another go. -

I've been going to Francesca for years, so when I heard that she had sold it, I was understandably upset. I hemmed, I hawed, I postponed, and all the while my eyebrows turned into mutant spiders.
I just had my first appointment with Malité, and I am so pleased. All my fears were unfounded. She has the education, experience and personality that has made a loyal Alchemy customer out of me (again).
I'll miss Francesca, but I feel that I am in very capable hands with Malité (and seriously...I am the most paranoid and suspicious person I know).
I would absolutely recommend her for all your personal grooming needs. -

There are facials where you leave feeling like you just got your skin cleaned real good and could have just played with all those old products deep in your drawer with the same result, and others where it transcends that and you feel glowing and like your skin's texture has actually changed. Malite's facials are the latter, and I've found that these kinds of aestheticians are few and far between.
My only complaint is that she doesn't work past 5pm-- which leaves me only weekends for my appointments. They tend to be booked about a month in advance. Now that I think of it, I really shouldn't be leaving this Yelp review as this will only exacerbate that problem. -

Francesca gave me my first facial. I was tired, stressed, had a cold at the time, and not convinced facials were for me. Boy, was I ever wrong! She was so friendly and sweet and put me at ease. I asked her for advice and to tell me what she was doing and using on my skin, and she remained comforting throughout the entire session. I've never wanted to be a princess, but she made me feel like one!
As others have mentioned, she's gentle, careful, attentive, and fantastic at what she does. She's also down to earth and won't push products on you, although she will have recommendations if you inquire. Facials with Francesca are such relaxing experiences you'll definitely come back.
Tips:
- Book as far in advance as you can. Everyone knows how great she is and 4 months in, she's already booked the rest of the year.
- Heed her driving directions about Colusa Ave: "ignoring the numbers as they decrease before increasing again". -

I can't say enough good things about Francesca. I hadn't had a facial in years because most of them make my skin break out. Not hers- all gentle products. And, at least after the first one, I swear I looked 5 years younger. (Results thereafter were not so dramatic, but still good!)
I can't afford facials very often, but I still go to her for eyebrow waxing and I actually look forward to it. When has anyone EVER said that about waxing?!
She's always patient and gentle and explains what's going on. You never feel in any way pushed to buy products. You never feel like she's trying to rush you out the door because her next appointment is due. She always seems genuinely happy to see you. Really, Franscesca's such a jewel!
Downsides:
- She's always all booked up! You have to make appointments quite a bit ahead of time.
- No waiting area. If she's with her prior client you're wandering around on the street until she's done.
- New location in Kensington. It's a nicer place, and the parking's easier, but I'm never "in the neighborhood anyway"- it's a little out of the way, and not well marked. However, she's booked so far in advance, it's not like she needs any foot traffic to support her business. -

I am far from your typical "girlie-girl" but if there was an indulgence to have, it would be a facial with Malite. I should call it a "facial+" considering her magic hands did wonders on my shoulders and arms. She explained every step of the process and was very informative about the condition of my skin and how I could improve trouble spots.
Her storefront is relaxing the moment you step inside. The front room is very welcoming, especially when she greets you with lemon water, and when you walk to the backroom you realize just how personal this service is being that there is only one room prepared just for you! One quickly realizes all of her attention is on you and as you sink into the soft lights, wonderful aromas, and warm blankets you are tempted to never leave and perhaps get away with sleeping for the night. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect atmosphere. Not once did I feel rushed. My husband did really good with this birthday gift. -

I too went to Francesca for years, but after not having a regular person to do my brows when Francesca sold the business I decided to try Malité and I am SO glad I did. She is just a sweet and calming as Francesca, which I'm not surprised that a good fit would be in the works, but you never know until you try. I had a facial, 2nd time ever, last week, and I can see the difference in my skin, AMAZING. Thank you so much Malité for sharing your gift.

Wow. Francesca is so awesome! Even when she's doing something painful (like waxing) I don't mind. She is totally professional, but very warm.
I had only been waxed once before when I went in to see her for the first time, and it had been a very icky experience. But Francesca made my appointment so warm and gentle that it cured me of whatever fear I had. She tells you what she's doing before she does it and why, and she moves at a relaxed pace, so you never feel rushed.
The only downer is that she's so far booked, its difficult to get an appointment, but it is very much worth the wait! -

Malite is truly a gift from the skin gods. Honestly she is the best esthetician I have every experienced and I've had my fair share of facials. Her calm demeanor will put you right at easy as will the luxurious space. I feel extremely blessed to have found Alchemy Skin Spa. It's like therapy for your face!

I started going to Malite at Supple a few years ago. When she left there, I frantically hunted her down online and saw that she had taken over Alchemy in Kensington. I had never been to Alchemy before and WOW, what a beautiful space!! It feels luxurious down to the last detail.
I can't say enough good things about Malite. She is such a knowledgeable expert in her field, uses fantastic products, and knows how to run a business efficiently and professionally without losing one ounce of that "personal touch" that makes her services so special. Malite is the hardest working skin care specialist I have ever gone to. She pays such close attention to her work while keeping your every comfort in mind. She feels very present throughout your service and yet you can just let yourself drift away and completely relax.
One of my fears in getting facials, massage, etc. is that the person providing the service will be chatty or anxious or just have some weird vibe. I want to like and feel comfortable with the person who is providing these intimate services - Malite makes this incredibly easy! -

As Francesca's devotees know, Alchemy has a new owner. I admit I couldn't imagine that anyone could fill Francesca's shoes, but, knowing that Francesca was willing to entrust Malite with her clients, I decided to give Malite a try. I am so, so glad that I did.
My circumstances are somewhat unique. My son and daughter were born eight weeks early on 06.15. Because of our feeding issues, it is hard for me to get out of the house, and nearly impossible to be anywhere on time. I was in dire need of body waxing (yes, there is such a thing as a waxing emergency) so I contacted Malite to see if she would be willing to make a housecall.
All I can say is WOW. Malite came over to the house and she dazzled our family with her kindness and compassion. It was immediately clear that she was committed to making me feel good about myself. She is highly skilled, patient, and resourceful. After she completed my lip and arms, my son started to cry. Malite somehow managed to wax my lower legs while I nursed and held my son on the table (she was very careful and no hot wax ever came near my son). She then held my son and rocked him to sleep so that I could rest for a few minutes.
Like Francesca, Malite is a person of great substance-- she cares about people and her community and it is a joy to talk with her. She's very lovable. And, of course, she does great work-- my legs are silky smooth and I felt so relaxed and special after she was done.
I really hope all of Francesca's clients who can't make the trek to Benicia will check Malite out. I can't recommend her highly enough. I just wish I could give her more than five stars! -

Malite is sweet and soothing and does amazing work. And she is NOT pushy at all. She's really cool. I had the most relaxing facial ever. It was definitely a real treat. She also is very knowledgeable and offered some great skincare advice. I love the products she used. I will be returning again.

I have been seeing Malite for a few years now and each visit is a special retreat. Alchemy really is a nurturing sanctuary.

As I was looking at my eyebrows today, I once again missed Malite. I have moved to So Cal and have yet to find an esthetician. Malite was so kind to me after I had my baby and was still breastfeeding. The products she used where very gentle.

If you are considering a facial here do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the best here. You will not regret it. The spa is so adorable you will be transported to this dreamland for your skin. I love Malite. My skin is always soft and moist and nourished after a facial with her. Malite is gifted with her touch and her understanding of skin. I have followed her from Supple and now to Alchemy and I hope she never leaves the east bay. In addition, Alchemy is a beautiful shop. It reminds me of being in the South of France on a sunny day. Malite makes the place feels relaxed, calm, and soothing. I don't ever write review but for Malite, I can't say enough.

Francesca is the absolute best esthetician I've EVER been to, and I've tried quite a few! She is not only extremely talented, but she is just the sweetest, kindest person ever. I leave there not only feeling more polished, but also happier. I used to be able to walk to her shop in Berkeley, but then she moved and I moved into the city, so now I have to drive over, but -- SO worth it! If you are looking for a good person for waxing, facials, etc., give her a shot - you won't be sorry!

A part of me wants to shy away from this review and the other part of me wants to tell the world....how GREAT Francesca is! WOW! OK..so being the decent human being that I am, I'll be fair and share.
Once you see Francesca, there's no going back. She is extremely talented when it comes to shaping the brows! She also tints them along with my lashes. I've NEVER been disappointed!
She pays attention to detail...detail...detail! She's very carrying, warm, gentle, professional, and sweet. I could go on.
There have been times when I came in to get a brow treatment and she said I wasn't ready. She then fit me in on a cancellation. It's not just a job to her. She cares!
I've had many people stop me to complement me on my brows!
Easy website to maneuver for appointments. BUT be for-warned...you must make appointments well in advanced. She's that GOOD!
With a lash tint, you get a hand massage! To die for... -

New location is very nice. Close your eyes and listen. Do you hear squeaky dog toys? Nope. That's one great thing about the new location. Another is the private bathroom. No one will miss the scuzzy bathroom and miserable parking around Walnut st.

Francesca is truly amazing. She uses luscious organic products that are good for the skin and the soul, and she's got many neat tricks up her sleeve that makes my skin happy. She is one of the gentlest soul I know, and puts me at ease immediately each and every time I see her. Getting a facial from her is like getting a full body massage, but better! I walk in tired and dull, and leave relaxed and vibrant.

Stated simply, there is no better facialist than Francesca. It's also hard to imagine anyone in who's company you'd rather spend a relaxing hour. Her skin spa is a serene one-woman show, which means when you're there, all the attention is on you -- no phones ringing, doors opening, or registers chiming. She also has wonderful skin care products, most of which are organic. Book early, book often -- you'll be so glad you did.

As a major fan of Francesca's, it took me a while to revisit Alchemy under its new owner. I should have known that Francesca would have found someone extraordinary to transfer Alchemy to. I've already been back twice to be pampered by the lovely and talented Malite. My brows look terrific, my skin is glowing and I leave feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated. What are you waiting for?!
