My husband & I both followed Ash when he left Vim & Vigor for Alcheme. We're still delighted with Ash's mad scissor skillz, and Alcheme is much more our "vibe" than Vim & Vigor was. Welcoming yet laid back, casual yet trendy. Very comfy environment for a girl who has a ponytail 99% of the time.

Ash is an artist, no doubt about it. He can tame my fine, frizzy hair and give cuts that last MONTHS, making the price more than worth it! Not to mention he is totally chill & fun to chat with. I have an appointment later today & I am like a giddy little kid the night before Christmas. Thanks Ash!!!

I followed Jen Smith here from her last salon, and would highly recommend her and Alcheme. Here's why:

    1. Jen will give candid advice on what to do with your hair. No bs, but helpful feedback.
    2. Jen's an awesome individual and a wildly talented hair stylist. I started committing to going to only her when she did my hair 2 years ago. Most hair stylists I've encountered in the East Bay AND SF would look at my long, black, Indian hair and throw up a confused or intimidated, "gee.. that's a lot of hair!" and then do something odd or generic that I choose to settle with. Not Jen. She's the first to give me real bangs and a fresher look, work with these Indian tresses fearlessly, and since then, I haven't gone to anyone else.
    3. Jen's down to make fixes. Got my hair cut last week and wasn't thrilled with the outcome of my new bangs. Maybe it was the style I described incorrectly, or my big forehead that I was tired of working with, and realized I didn't like how the style looked falling on it. Came back, she redid the bangs beautifully and I've never been happier with them!
    4. You know your hair stylist is the sh*t when you leave the salon smiling ear to ear and checking yourself out in display windows!

The salon is also central (close to FiDi, U square, and BART) and serves tea/coffee while you hang out. Staff is super nice. Pricey but worth it if you love yourself a good head of hair.

After years of searching (my last hair magician worked at Atelier Emmanuel and left(( I found Lana at Alcheme! She is great and knows how to layer and texture hair so it looks awesome even the next day after I wash and dry it myself))))) I have fine blond hair, and this is the second time I come here and leave very happy with my haircut!!! She also suggested a great volumizing root foam spray!

Okay, YELP this is to follow your guidelines.
My experience here was HORRIBLE. My hair color turned out almost blackish as I had requested a lighter brown color NOT Black. I was disappointed with the  senior female hairstylist  recommendations and my hair. I am not a hater  , I  am only  writing this to help others understand  my experience  at the hair salon .
    Have a nice day YELP

I have been to Alcheme a couple of times and each time I saw a different stylist and I was very satisfied with both of them. I had my first haircut with Ashley which was a stunning cut, and I got soooo many compliments on it, and my second time there I saw Richelle who was also excellent and gave me the exact haircut I was looking for. The staff is very friendly and the salon is clean and hip. I particularly love that building since there is a nails salon just downstairs so I get everything done in one stop. I highly recommend Alcheme salon for people that are looking for new and trendy haircuts and a professional and high quality customer service.

I've been coming to Alcheme to see BRIELLE for a few years now and would not change salon/stylist for anything. I receive amazing service from the time I walk out of the elevator, to the time I walk back in to leave. The whole staff is very friendly, especially my stylist BRIELLE. She is very thorough when asking what I want, and I always walk out with my hair looking better than I had originally wanted! If you want to go to a salon with a hip/relaxing vibe, this is your place and BRIELLE is your girl!

I was referred by my mother who gets her hair done here by Angela. I wanted to do an ombre look and the previous stylists at an asian salon totally messed up my hair. Spent over $200 trying to get it blonde and all failed. Then I came to Alcheme and explained to their colorist louize what I wanted and also provided her with images of the ombre look and she did an excellent job. I was really satisfied with my look and although i spent probably around 8 hours (i have very thick hair) i wouldn't have want to do it anywhere else. Louize turned my ORANGE BLONDE hair to a ombre starting dark at the roots fading lighter on the ends. I also got a cut and loved it. Only thing was it was pricey....with my thick hair everything was about $500 ish. But, it was really worth it. She got all the orange colors out and made it look natural.

This review is long overdue since I got my hair cut by Angela about a month ago, BUT I cannot stop raving about how awesomely talented Angela is!!!!  Seriously, I don't know how she does it; she makes a few snips here and there with her shears, and VOILA, my hair literally looks like I walked out of a shampoo commercial!

I was a little skeptical walking out of the salon, thinking it was probably all the fancy hair products paired with a careful blowout, but no ma'am, I was able to recreate the look at home in 10 minutes flat with nothing but a big round brush and hairdryer after hopping out of the shower. All I can say is: RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING.

I almost can't believe this is my hair sometimes, like I have on some high-end wig to tell the truth, haha. All the more reason to book an appointment with Angela NOW!

Followed my all time favorite stylist--JEN SMITH here.  I have boasted of her talents during my review of her previous salon here: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

I would never see anyone else. I get just the look I am going for and more.  Jen is great with all hair types (she does great with my thick asian tresses!)  Lately she's been keeping my stylish with straight across bangs that taper and some super sexy long layers.

Her new location is so much fun!  Go upstairs to the 4th floor and it is a super fun, lofty city space.  I felt like such a little urban fashionista ^_^  The energy is upbeat and SF all the way!

Full range of bumble and bumble products also make me a happy girl who spoils her hair.

I am one of the many loyal fans that love my hairstylist ASHLEY LOPEZ, formerly of VIM & VIGOR, and followed him to Alcheme Salon in Union Square.  Just had a blowout from him yesterday to check out the new digs and I have to say, I love everything about the salon!!!!  It's stylish, in a great location, and the vibe and people are trendy, cool and upscale.

As for Ashley, I've been a loyal client of his for the past 3 years and honestly, I will never go to anyone else!  He's a magician with his hands and has such an eye for perfecting the most fabulous style for you!  He's meticulous, and a miracle worker and without a doubt knows hair.  He has cut all types of hair, even celebrities.  He listens to your wants and needs and serves it up tenfold every time!

My only wish is that everyone see him because he's definitely the best!!!!

As a Male who is very picky when it comes to getting my hair done, I am more than satisfied with the results. Angela has been my stylist for over 6 months, and I have gotten 3 excellent cuts from her. She takes the time to understand your personal style, as well as your lifestyle, so that she can better incorporate elements of both into her cut. She is also very open to suggestions. After finishing the cut, she asks me to take a look and will always change it if want certain parts shorter, etc.

Staff are extremely nice and helpful (gotta love Lupe for those skilled hands and the hot face towel!). Looking for a new stylist when I moved to the city was a serious worry for me, but I have yet to be the slightest bit disappointed with Alcheme. Price is very comparable for SF, and definitely worth it!

Just got my hair cut here by Richelle.  She is amazing!  Knew exactly what I wanted. I walked in with drab hair that was too long and walked out feeling refreshed and beautiful. She listens to what you want and offers input as to how that will work with your current hair regimen.  I wished more hair stylist understood what I was asking for.  Plus she styled my Asian hair so that it would hold curl.  It lasted all day long!  If you want a hair cut that works for you and a hair stylist that listens and gives you helpful suggestions, you have to visit Richelle!  She really is as good as it gets!

I've never had a better cut or color than I've had at Alcheme! The owner (Angels?) is amazing.

I have thick, wavy, hair with a temper and she managed to transform it and I never felt better. I was getting looks from so many people just walking down the street.

The only downside is that I cant afford to spend $300 on a cut and color every time I really, really need it.

I've spent years trying to find a more affordable alternative and there's really not one I've found in SF over the past 15 years.

5 stars for Richelle De Vera.  I really wish there was 10 stars... I'd give them all to her!

I am writing primarily to let you all know about a super talented and wonderful stylist names Richelle De Vera.  This beautiful lady knew exactly what she was doing when she did my hair and make up.  I had been looking for the perfect person to do my hair and make up for my enagement pictures and someone recommended Richelle.  I gave her a call and we arranged for a trial session.

What i loved most about her was her attentiveness to detail.  She wanted to make sure that my hair and make up was everything i wanted.  She made suggestions when necessary and really did a phenomenal job.

I will definitely be calling her again.

My best friend gets her hair cut by Richelle as well and her hair is FABULOUS!  if you are looking for someone to glam up your life... please give her  call ASAP!!  Richelle will make you look your best!

JEN! She is a miracle worker. When we met, I had mousey brown hair, the result of being unemployed for 8 months and forced to box dye - GASP! She is like my soul sister - she knew exactly what I wanted without me even really saying it. Every time I come in, its like meeting up with your best friend at a wine bar. We laugh, we talk about the tacky celebs in the US Weekly that Im reading, and EVERY TIME, when it comes to blowdry time, I fall into a creepy silent coma, in a relaxed trance because she is SO good at what she does. At the end I snap out of it and make some sarcastic remark about my creepy sleepy stare, and she shoots right back "Oh seriously, I always get sleepy when people blowdry my hair." LOVE HER! Oh yeah, did I mention, she took my icky mousey brown to bombshell blonde and I have never looked back!

I am not the type of guy who gets a haircut every 6 weeks (see my photos). You'll find me scrambling to get a haircut on about 4 occasions throughout any given year.

What can I say? The ladies (and some guys) like the long curly hair. Unfortunately, it DOES get to a point where it becomes an unmanageable white-boy afro, and I just can't deal with it anymore.

When I lived in Los Angeles, I had a friend/stylist cut my hair--and I trusted her. Since I have moved to the city, it's been tough. For some reason, some people just can't cut the curlies. And then I found Marci Castillo.

I met her at the last Yelp event I attended, she gave me her card & told me to visit her anytime. I called & made an appointment, which is HIGHLY suggested. This place isn't much of a 'walk-in' spot, and it's actually a little hidden. You have to take an elevator to the 4th floor, where you will find a 20+ chair, full-service salon.

When I entered, I was quickly greeted by another stylist, who ushered me to the couch & said Marci would be with me momentarily. I wasn't there for the tunes, but they weren't very good--some sort of techno/modern rock remix b***s***t. I was offered my choice of water, coffee, tea or wine. I didn't do it...but getting drunk & a haircut at the same time? Awesometown.

Marci seated me a few moments later & asked what I would like to do with my hair. She explained her 'vision' for my dome piece before she even started, and then proceeded to shampoo & condition my long curlies.

An hour and a half later & some good conversation, my hair looks great! I found out that my stylist is actually the educator at her salon as well--new products, trends, etc.

The cut itself took a little longer than expected, but Marci explained she was working a conservatively because she didn't want to mess up my hair. I appreciated that, and expect when I return it will be a lot quicker.

So...if you're a dude looking for an extra spiffy cut, or a lovely lady looking for some sassy stylin' hair...visit Marci & she will take great care of you.

Treat yourself a little, and put the damn Supercuts coupon down and come here!

Why is it so hard to get a hair appointment in this city? I went to this place basically because I woke up one morning, realized my black roots were screaming and tried calling around to see if any places had appointments open same day. I saw the good reviews on here, the prices on the website seemed very reasonable, and they had someone available to help me that day. Okay.

General impression: while the decor and staff seemed reasonably hip, the clientele was all older, rich looking ladies getting helmet dos and maybe a few Marina type girls. Uncomfortable for my grubby ass. But whatever, the older ladies gotta get their hair done too and shouldn't we all be able to get along? The reason for this low-star review is paying such a high price for a totally half-assed experience.

My stylist was nice initially, but once the bleach was on my head, couldn't have acted less interested. She just put the bleach on my head, set the timer, and walked away. Actually, she didn't just walk away, she sat and talked and got some make-up done on her. With the strongest bleach I've ever had sitting on my head. I was terrified that it was burning off all my hair by the time she came back to check. It's one thing if you know a client's hair and how it takes bleach, but it is astoundingly unprofessional to just set a timer and go on a new head.

Still, my shampoo was nice and I really really liked the tone she put on my hair. I also requested a bang trim and liked the results. The blow-dry started off promising but seemed really quick and when I went to touch my hair after the stylist proclaimed "DONE!" and walked off, I was shocked to see that my hair was still damp.

While reeling from that, I was even more shocked to see that I was going to be charged 140 dollars for my overbleaching (at my next appt at a different salon, it was mentioned I had a white ring around my head from it), tone, half ass blow-dry and bang trim. On my fuming BART trip home, I was thinking maybe I was charged for a whole haircut just to snip a few centimeters off my bangs?

I stopped raging when I got home and realized my hair actually looked very nice, but I won't be going back.

After reading all the rave reviews, I quickly booked an appointment with Selida, and she did not disappoint!

Selida saved my color... she just *got* it. She's one of those stylists that cares about the client's happiness and really listens to you. Very easy to talk to and open to all suggestions or thoughts you might have about your hair. She did an AMAZING styling job, too. I left feeling super sexy - my color and hair looks great.

Alcheme is cute, comfortable and not the least bit pretentious - I'm looking forward to returning!

I imagine that many women think nothing of spending 50 bucks or more on a haircut, but not most men I know.  Me, I'm an $18 haircut guy, or less if I can get away with it.

That was until I met Selida Cazares at Alcheme.  If you're going to spend money on a haircut, it better be for a good reason -- wedding, job interview -- or the stylist better be kick ass.

Selida is kick ass.  Talented.  Smart.  Nice.  My wife and a bunch of her friends think so, too.  Five stars.

March 06 UPDATE:  Helen is a godess.  She continues to wow me.  Someone recently told me that I had great hair.  I said, "no no, it's the haircut."  The lady looked at me and said, "My hair could never look like that, even with a great cut.  You're follically blessed."  Me?  Follically blessed?  I think that is one of the best compliments I have EVER gotten.  I used to hate my hair.  Now I love it.  I think I want that one my headstone.  "She was follically blessed."

    ------------------------
Jan 06 UPDATE:  Just went back to see Helen.  I asked for The Chop, a Sienna Miller inspired short crop.  Execution? Flawless.  Color?  Perfecto.  My fragile hair is becoming healthy and glossy.  This time I was prepared for the bill.  I rationalize it this way -- with Helen, I only need to go in every 6 - 8 weeks because she does SUCH a good job.  I used to go in once a month at my old place.  So the annual spend is about the same.  Also, think about how much you might spend on a pair of shoes.  How often do you wear those shoes.  You wear you hair every of your life.  Worth every penny.
    ------------------

Like falling in love.  The mechanically questionable elevator ride to the fourth floor made my heart pitter-patter.  Rambling like an idiot as I attempted to describe what I wanted.  The surge of happiness when I realized she actually deciphered my gibberish.  Feeling giddy as I stared at my sassy new crop.  Did I magically lose 5 pounds? The healthy glow of my complextion brought out by perfectly hued and placed hightlights.  The sickness in my stomach when I got the bill.  I'm a fool for love.  I'll be back... in two months.

Book her while you can!!  Brielle is well on her way to becoming one of SF's competitive hair scene's brightest stars. I was in desperate need of cut, color and style and got a recommendation from a friend.  Not one to leave my locks to just anyone I spoke to her on the phone and we immediately clicked.  She is a delight and passionate about making you look and feel fantastic.  Color - perfect.  Cut - perfect.

And here's the kicker: I can't say who as it would be bad form to reveal a salon's celebrity client list BUT there was a local SF kid gone A-List being shown to the chair next to me....apparently Alcheme Salon is the place to go for those in the know....check it out.

I've been seeing my stylist, Jean-Pierre Serrau, for about 5 years now and refuse to allow anyone else to touch my hair.  He used to be at Premier Atelier, but moved to Alcheme when it closed.

I saw him a couple of weeks ago and, of course, he did another amazing job.  He is a very good listener and really goes out of his way to make sure you look fabulous.  I have very fine, straight, long hair and he knows exactly how to deal with it.  He's not into trendy or outlandish looks, he's all about class and sophistication.  He's a genius!  If I could, I would give him more than 5 stars. ;)

The salon itself, Alcheme, is a very nice space.  It's tastefully designed, has very good natural light, and removed from the street.  The staff gives off a very good vibe...hip and energetic, but not pretentious.  (It's way, way better than Premier Atelier).

i'll be honest, i've only been once. BUT the reason this spot has earned top ratings is their recent acquisition of a genius with CURLY locks known as Marty.

i was lucky enough to find this man some years ago upon my arrival to the bay area, and i can't say i've ever come across anyone with such a natural understanding of how to work with curly hair. not only does he actually listen to what i want (1 inch IS 1 inch) and is a master at translating interesting new ideas onto my pile of wonderful fuzziness, but he also has a real understanding of what it takes to keep my delicate curls healthy (he was right to advise against color in the beginning, i really wasn't ready for it yet..). i always walk away with a very chic do that i can easily maintain on a daily basis.

and so this most recent time we met, my first time at Alcheme, i found him in a lovely new studio doing his thing with a lively and talented bunch. there were all kinds of beautiful heads freshly trimmed - straight and curly! and Marty? he let me try a bit of color :-) and its been doing very nicely

I'm the first to admit that I am horrible when it comes to my hair. I have naturally poofy, curly, long hair that gets very little attention paid to it and boy does it need it. Yes, it has a life of its own.

With all the hair drama aside, I found Selida as a solution during my hair coloring days. I actually followed her from a couple of other hair studios because she's really that awesome. Not to mention, she would knock out all sorts of color on my hair like no tomorrow without a single break in sweat.

Selida is hilarious and always had me cracking up in the chair with updates on Flavor Flav or I love NY. Ah, the guilty pleasures in life! She's great at putting her client's wishes on the forefront and communicating realistic results. She pays attention to detail and I never wound up with the dreaded "brassy orange hair" color.

I don't color my hair anymore, however. Way too much maintenance for my own good. Okay, maybe it's pure laziness. I miss Selida though!

The fact that Selida never tries to push product is also a definite bonus. As for the actual salon, it's very modern and artsy.

My hair has a MIND OF ITS OWN, so believe me, when I moved to the city, and needed a cut, I did my research. I turned to my beloved yelp and didn't regret it. Alessandra gave me great cut, and now I can actually walk down the street with my hair down. Life changing, really.

The only downfall, it's a bit pricey compared to my usual $45 cut.

For years, I've been going to Angela for haircuts. And everytime i never left disappointed. The salon is always incredibly clean and welcoming. The receptionist is always very nice and offer me a beverage.
Angela, of course, always does wonderful work and I left with an awesome haircut. I totally trust her and let her take charge of my hair. If you needed a change or a new look, I highly recommended Angela.

Another smashing cut from Selida.  I totally trust her with my color and cut.  She always comes through with something flattering to my face shape that gathers compliments flattering to my ego.
I sometimes bring her pictures of styles that I like and we discuss how to adapt them to my hair texture and face shape.
I have seen her wedding hair and it is amazing.  If I get married she will definately be the only consideration.

I'm very excited to find out my colorist Louize is starting at Alcheme. She is always so sweet and very professional, I always love whatever she does to my hair, brown, red, highlights. I've modelled for her when she did brazillian blowouts, and my hair is so healthy and shiny. I won't go to anyone else for color!!

I have never seen nor heard of this place. I was looking on Yelp for hair salons and liked the reviews that I read about Alcheme Salon.

I called for an appointment and got one on the same day (today!). Jean Pierre did an amazing job!!! I have never really been satisfied with hair cuts but my new cut looks great! My family even liked it and they usually say that my hair cuts always look the same like I hadn't cut it at all!

Jean Pierre took the time to listen to me about my hair: likes, dislikes, what I wanted to do with it, etc. Then I asked him what he thought and the feedback he gave was very helpful.

The staff at Alcheme were so welcoming and courteous. The location is great, too! I really liked the atmosphere when I first walked into the salon. I felt very well taken care of the whole time I was there.

I would highly recommend coming to Alcheme for a hair cut or whatever you need done with your hair. I know I'll be going back for future cuts and other hair needs. The price is kinda high but not really compared to the other fancy places in the downtown SF area. Definitely worth it though! =)

*Rating on Junior Stylist and products
I'm in search of a stylist, wanting to try someone new and decided to give this salon a try.

Stylist was sweet, personable and appeared to have good technique but  within a week my $120 faded! I mean hair color faded!

With punk colors like purple, blue, reds- it's not easy to get this right especially with highlights. I think the main factor to failure here are the products used. They are not top quality considering the location of the salon, you'd expect their product line to be competitive and it's not.

Owner was there and she totally did not acknowledge me, mind you this was my first visit-first impression of her.

All and all my salon and stylist search continues!

The number of times I get hit on skyrockets after a trip to see Selida.
That is both a good AND bad thing.

Selida is awesome.  She's been my stylist now for about 6 years and I followed her from HBR Studio.  Not only is she great to talk to for reality TV updates (ha!), boy stuff, and general girl speak, she's fantastic for what she does.  She's a sweetheart and seems so down to earth compared to the other people that work there.  Of course, this could just be my bias, right?

The studio itself is small with the typical white, cold, modern decor.  But I can have wine while my hair gets done, so I'm ALL over that.  They also carry good lines of products (I'm all about Pureology).

Whenever I leave, my hair feels great, which of course makes me feel great, which turns into uber-confidence.  What more can I ask for from a hair salon?

Alcheme is a great a great Salon.  You walk in, they off you water, green tea, or Vino.  They are very friendly, and they give great hair!
Angela can pretty much do any style and or color.  From what I have seen n the last two year of coming here, the staff is talented as well.  What else can I say?   I am always pleased, and my hair difficult to cut...
only problem, no happy ending... oh well..

    Richelle!!!!!!!!!

This review is for Richelle.  She did my hair and make up for my wedding.  Richelle was amazing!!!    She is talented, creative, and caring.  It was evident to me that she wanted to make me feel beautiful on my wedding day.   I do not usually wear make up...I asked for a natural, elegant look.  She did that, beautifully.  She told me she would do just enough so I would look good in the pics.... she is professional and skilled in her field.  She also did makeup/hair for my aunt, sister, and mom.  They cannot stop raving about her.  She made my sister look EXACTLY like the pic she had in mind.  I was so impressed she is now my new stylist.  Thanks, Richelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great Hair.

Angela was my stylist and I love my cut and color.  Worth the $$.  Very happy with the way it looks.

I am not a girly girl and hate to hang out in "salons" so my only complaint is that it takes forever.  Not their fault - just wish the whole process could be shorter.  Less "artist" more "get me out quick."  Just personal preference.  Some chicks thrive on the salon thing.
