Though we are spoiled in CA (with our Monterey Bay Aquarium), we still found that the Albuquerque one (though small) was enjoyable.  Our one year old loved it.  It was well worth the $7.  The jellyfish were neat, and the big tank with the turtles, sharks, and that awesome puffer fish was also very cool.

A walk through the Botanical Garden was also nice.  Wish the butterfly exhibit had been open, but the fantasy elements were cute---giant carrots, pumpkin, dragon, etc.

My family and I purchased the BioPark Combo Ticket, which allows you access to the zoo, aquarium, and botanical gardens for one price.  Like I said in my review of the Albuquerque zoo, I feel this is the best option.

The aquarium is smaller than others I have been to in the past, but it makes up for it with great exhibits.  To me, it is the perfect size allowing you to slowly wander around and take in all the wonderful displays.  One of my favorite stops was the jellyfish which were beautiful.  It's relaxing just to sit there and watch them float.  The aquarium also has three larger glass windows, with the largest being at the end, that allow you to just observe the fish, turtles, sharks, etc. at a close distance.  I recommend just sitting on the floor in front of the large glass wall and soaking it all in.  I bet you will see something in those tanks you have never seen before.  It is also a great place for some good pictures.

My family and I spent roughly one and half hours in the aquarium.  We will be stopping at the aquarium again when we make our way back to Albuquerque.

What do you do in Albuquerque that is family friendly and fun considering you're essentially in the desert? You take the kids to the Albuquerque Aquarium!
It's not the largest aquarium I've ever been too, and what's up with the ship in the algae pool attraction near the front that tells us not to toss our beer cans into the water, but the rest of the site is simply stunning.
The opening exhibits featuring fish of the southwest is entertaining, as is the smaller fish and the model ship exhibit... Then you get into the shallow water manta-Ray pool which I could watch all day. You get an overview and an underwater perspective at this one, and be sure not to miss the wave-crashing fish perspective if you have kids and enjoy hearing laughter from the tykes!

You then get into some of the larger (and smaller) tanks containing the barracuda eels (dark lighting), the jelly fish (amazing), and the must-see shark tank...

If you want a real treat, be at the shark tank around 2:00pm because that's when a couple of divers hand feed the sharks, turtles, and manta rays in that tank.

I would call this a must-see attraction for the Albuquerque area, and way more entertaining than watching the old people shuffling around with their personal oxygen tanks at any of the numerous local casinos.

For a city of a million people in the middle of the desert, I think Albuquerque has a quite good if rather small aquarium. (given that I would not expect such a city to have an aquarium at all!!)  There is a nice "shark tank"  with some sharks and big fish, a pretty amazing jellyfish exhibit, a really cool eel tank, some interesting exhibits about the Rio Grande river,  some tidepool exhibits,  some hands on stuff, and quite a few other things - so a pretty diverse collection and a good educational experience for all ages..  And admission includes entry to the neighboring quite beautiful botanical gardens..  I went here and the botanical gardens several times and greatly enjoyed each visit..

Meh~ It's really small, but the Manta Ray/Sting Ray exhibit was really cool.  Great for little kids, but don't expect too much as an adult.  Well worth the $7 to keep your kids entertained for a day and learn about conservation.

The aquarium is next to the botanic gardens.  by a pass that will allow you to see that as well and also visit the Rio Grande Zoo!  This is a small museum but nonetheless one I have enjoyed visiting time and again.  I like the big aquarium and the tide pool as you enter.

Amazing, fun and well worth the admission price!!  Such a great display and the kids loved it!!  It is a bit smaller then all the hype and what I thought it would be .... but the experience made up for that.  I would HIGHLY recommend checking this place out with the family and kids for a day.  Just do the Botanical Garden (same place) and the Aquarium and skip the zoo, or just do the train tour of the zoo....

i had no idea this existed until my local friends took me here on my recent day trip to Albuquerque. It was a great way to spend a day catching up with friends, walking the gardens and checking out fish on a hot sunday. The park isn't large, but seemed adequately priced and a good place for friends and families. That sunday seemed nice and mellow and not very touristy. We didn't make it to the zoo though.  Overall nice way to spend a day.

This is a very well done aquarium that all ages can enjoy. There are a couple of hands on visits at the beginning.  You can see it all in 30 minutes or 3 hours depending on your curiosity.  This is especially a good value considering the admission also gives you access to the botanic gardens that are gorgeous.  There is a shark reef cafe where you can see the views of the large shark tank.  I have had good and bad experiences with the food and service, but if you come with low expectations, it is a nice view!  I usually bring a picnic to enjoy at the adjoining gardens.
