I like this Albertson's because it's sort of bourgeois. Usually I'm not into bourgeois establishments, but due to the fact that there are not too many good grocery stores in Long Beach, I appreciate this one.
I really appreciate the location of this particular store. It is close to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. It's nice because sometimes I can't get everything I need at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's (or for the price I want) and need to go to a regular store. Due to this store's location I am able to visit all three establishments in one fell swoop if I need to! Thankfully this place is located very close to some neighborhoods that are not "hoods!"
I enjoy some of the smaller perks of this store, like the pergo floors. It's let's me feel classy, but I know it's cheap fake flooring which keeps me grounded to my roots a bit. I also like that there is a small Starbucks inside this store. I love grocery shopping! I love perusing isles, and I love coffee! Mix the two together and for me it is a match made in heaven!
This particular store is on the smaller side for an Albertson's (or grocery stores in general, but not Long Beach grocery stores). They do however have all the essentials I need and the customer service here is pretty darn good! It's a lot better than the Albertson's on 6th and Redondo where the cashiers reprimand, argue, and yell at you. Evidently the management here is of a higher caliber.
Also, due to this particular store's location there aren't homeless people outside begging for change. Not that I mind homeless people, I just rarely carry cash and I can't handle the guilt when I tell them I don't have any change and they look at me like I'm a lying a-hole. I'm all about taking care of my fellow humans that might be a little down on their luck, but sometimes I need to just take care of my grocery shopping!

Oh Albertson's, what the hell happened to you!?!
I really have to agree with Megan G about this Albertson's. It has totally changed and now that I've realized how down hill its gone, I don't know if I can shop here anymore.
I remember when I first discovered this store, it was awesome. It had everything I needed. The variety was delightful, the produce, wow, the produce was top notch and 5 star worthy and I really liked their beer selection too. I mean, what more do you need in a store than an ample produce section and beer?
It was well organized, its hours of operation fit my schedule perfectly and like Megan mentioned, shopping here wasn't really a chore at all, it was really fun and was something I looked forward to.
But then I started to realize what this store was really all about and once I saw how Albertson's was taking advantage of its customers and selling them a bill of goods with their "so-called" lower prices and not so neighborly services, I just don't have the same desire to rush back here anymore.
Maybe Albertson's has always been crappy and I just didn't realize it til my eyes were opened by the competitors, but I think I'd rather shop elsewhere. Maybe I will go to a store who offers me more than just double coupons, because while double the savings pleasure is always better than one great bargain, I need more.
I need a store I can rely on and one that appreciates my business. Call me crazy, but I wanna feel like the store cares. Maybe Jons or that Trader Joe's character will be a better fit since they seem much more straight up about the selection they offer and seem like they would be proud to have me as a customer.

Update: 5/6/07
One night, a few weeks ago, cutting up my midnight snack, I peeled off the label from my shiny red apple and read it: Crips Pink. "Wow," I thought to myself, "you know you live in Long Beach when gangs take to produce pranks."
I got ready for bed and turned out the lights. I was bothered only shortly by the fact that the Crips' color is blue, not pink, before falling soundly asleep. Awoken by the awful sound of the alarm clock, I reached for the snooze button but my hand hit something that was not my alarm. I fumbled for my eye glasses and peered over--fully loaded lay a Glock. I pulled from my head a blue bandana. Tearing off the covers I saw that I was wearing street clothes. When I sat up, two gold chains fell forward around my neck and I found I was wearing large black jeans with one of my pant legs rolled up.
I ran to my computer to Yelp about the Alberston's Crips apple. I first Googled "Crips Pink Apple" to see if I wasn't the only one who this happened to. Google returned: "Did you mean Cripps Pink Apple?" which took me to a corporate website with the patented Cripps Apple described in full.
I felt a strange sensation that I was being shaken and I could faintly hear the familiar sound of my alarm clock returning. I jolted awake, looked over, the Glock was gone, and tearing the covers off I found only my PJ's, both pant legs down.
The Cripps Pink apple is real and it's tasty. I increase my Albertsons Rating to 3 stars to 4 for stocking fruit that can make me an OG in my dreams.

All I remember about this place is that it was the closest bakery to where I was hosting my graduation lunch so to simplify things I ordered my cake from here. The cake was ready when they said it would be, the order/pick up process was easy peasy and the cake looked and tasted fantastic!!!! No one even suspected that it was from Albertson's! I'm going to say it....eeeeek... here it goes.... it was better than Porto's!

What I now view as a normally sized Albertsons: small compared to many, but it has most of what you're looking for: including a BofA ATM.
I come here to get certain items I can't find at my local Wild Oats or T.J.'s: I recently broke down and got Tide, for which I am most thankful: the T.J.'s equivalent just wasn't cutting it: my clothes never quite came out clean.
They have an OK deli here: and lots of little cheeses and stuff I enjoy perusing: I kinda feel overwhelmed going out of the checkout counters: The TV's kinda disturb me...
