This is the best Albertson's in town. To date, at least 3 of their stores in B/CS have closed (although this store was a Randall's when the first Alb.'s in Northgate closed).
I've been coming to this store longer than H-E-B or Kroger, since it predated those store upgrades & moves (before '03 HEB's in B/CS were pathetic). Now, I think of HEB as my primary grocery store. This Albertson's is a good store, but it just doesn't have the variety that HEB does. I do prefer it to Kroger Signature, as it is every bit as good, it is closer, and I don't need a 'discount' card.
This Albertson's does have a central location, and isn't as busy as HEB. I still shop there when I'm in a hurry. -

Well that's it, today it closed at noon after a 13 year run and original employees are now unemployed. H-E-B bought it and to maintain their monopolistic footprint in our community they will not allow it to reopen as a grocery store. While it's a grocery store by design. It will become a paramount sign of Urban Decay when entering the Gateway of Aggieland, followed by the dead unkempt previous gas station location and now rotting carcass of the former hotel at University & Texas.
How terrible.
If seems as if we are witness to one of the most destructive and hostile business takeovers ever in College Station which further degrades rather than improving The Gateway. Corporate power and greed once again rears it's ugly head.
Thank you to H-E-B for bringing over 80 job losses, urban decay and another Albertson's carcass to the Gateway of Aggieland, home of Texas A&M University.
Albertson's is also to blame for riding only on their name, never getting involved locally and just seemingly dieing off. If anyone chooses to believe news reports Albertson's sent a sell offer to HEB.
Always keep in mind that when shopping at HEB, that you are supporting the fact that they totally wiped out this grocery store. Certainly your parents and you should know the history as it's a large example of modern commercial dominance reshaping your community.
Shopping at HEB is supporting 80+ job losses.
Oh yeah, and the now dead commercial complex on The Gateway.
What does it say to you? To me it says "OWNED BY HEB!"Listed in: Recently Failed Businesses

Review from Rudy R.
I came here on my last visit to BCS. I needed a few items, and didn't want to drive the extra mile to the Wal-Mart for a 12 pack of soda, cold medicine, and chips. Big Mistake, This store sucks!! Everything in this store is ¢30 or higher than HEB and Wal-Mart. As a matter of fact I saved ¢80 by getting the cold medicine at Walgreens. We're in a recession. I don't care how clean, and fancy a grocery store is, or how courteous the employees are. When you get home, and see the bottom line you won't care about that. I give Albertson's 1 star save money go to HEB or Wal-Mart.

This is the worst grocery store near the Texas A&M Campus.
Layout-wise, the store makes little to no sense after moving past the produce+deli+pharmacy area. The staff are flippant and rude, and the registers always understaffed.
On the plus side, they have good buy-one-get-one deals from their butcher. it doesn't make up for the poor price on other items, though.
