You have two ways to go about grocery shopping in uptown: lowest prices but bottom of the barrel food quality, or pay a little more and get everything you need under one roof, and you won't have to worry about it expiring the next day. That is why Albertson's is my grocery store of choice!
Their prices are a little higher than Walmart, but whenever I shopped there, I always ended up stopping at Albertsons on my way home to pick up the few shopping list items they didn't have in stock. So I threw in the towel, and entered into an exclusive relationship with Albertsons. They also have better looking clientele and a safer parking lot.
If you park in the last row (which sometimes is your only option on a Sunday afternoon) be warned that the shopping cart will think you are stealing it and the wheels will lock up causing you to practically carry the cart to your car. They don't mess around when it comes to hobo theft!
Overall, if you want quality food and some decent looking people to shop with - come to Albertsons! -

This has to be one of the last remaining Albertson's stores...
Great location, close to home, but average grocery store. Always busy. I usually stop in here a few times a month to pick up what I can't get at Whole Foods. Not bad to run in for a few things.
I haven't noticed prices being higher than anywhere else. The store is much better than it used to be, and I prefer it to the neighborhood market down the road. I can't comment on the produce or meats. Beer/Wine selection is okay, nothing great.
I would give it three stars, but they don't carry a few things that I always need (Stonyfield organic yogurt for one..), minus one star. -

I was drawn to Albertson's because their redbox machine allowed for an online reservation and had the two movies I wanted. Bonus. So, while I was there I picked up a few items for the weekend.
The place wasn't overly crowded, there was enough parking. While I wasn't going for a full shopping trip I was glancing at prices of a few things that I often purchase and their prices seemed okay but not as competitive as other places. It seemed like they had good deals on specific items so maybe it's more about stocking up while stuff's on sale.
I found the layout a bit odd with a dairy isle in the back and one down the center of the store.
Lastly, leaving was a pain since it was surrounded by one way streets....that could be more my issue not too familiar with one-ways and not sure what direction I needed to head but did have to circle the block to get back the right way.
I give it an a-ok in my book. I am not going to go there for a regular grocery trip but since it's on my way home I may go for a short trip again in the future. -

I'm not sure why this Albertsons has such bad reviews, but I'm a fan. If I ever need to get something quick and fast, this is the spot to be at. Need a cold drink? A bag of chips? No problemo! Albertsons has it all. I'm not sure about pricing of this store vs other grocery stores. . .I'll have to pay more attention to what I'm paying next time I get my groceries here..I definitely don't want to be paying a huge premium just cause it's located in the "Uptown" area!

Holy credit card.
This Albertson's is nicely located in the middle of Uptown and has a better selection of nice food and wines or whatever than other stores around there (Wal-Mart, Target).
But I'm guessing it's location is no mistake - all of the other $50k millionaires around might not mind paying an extra few dollars for the same thing at a seedier grocery store, but I do. Sometimes deals are great, but go just for that - the deals. -

Bad grocery store. If you are in this area and looking for groceries, go to the Target on Haskell or the Walmart Neighborhood Market on 75 or even up to Kroger on Mockingbird.
Basically, it is across the board questionable quality for its fresh items. Also, it seems a good bit more expensive but that might just be me projecting my dislike of the store onto its prices.
If you are just getting pre packaged items and not a ton of stuff and can get past that it just seems dirtier than other grocery stores than it is fine, but there are just better options. -

I stopped in on Monday night for a few quick things for the week: stuff to make fish tacos, spaghetti, breakfast and a few other items. I didn't go all crazy and somehow my bill ended up being NINETY FREAKING BUCKS.
$90? I was shocked too. And I didn't even purchase the fish for the tacos, much less the flank steak I eyed with hunger. I probably could have purchased the same groceries at Tom Thumb or even Whole Foods and walked out with fresher produce and for a lower price.
The most disappointing of the whole trip was that they don't carry chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. What the heck, Albertson's? When I asked about them, the grocery manager was all, "Oh yeah, people ask for those all the time but we stopped carrying them when we reorganized the store. I don't even know where to tell you to get them because I'm not sure any store carries them."
So my question is, if people ask for them all the time, why don't you carry them?
Oh, and Tom Thumb has them. Actually they carry two different brands...Weird, considering "no one" was supposed to carry them.Listed in: Errands make my world go round, Grocery Shopping

I usually shop the WF closer to home, and occasionally make the trek up to CM, but unfortunately my preferred stores for other things, do not carry Diet Coke, so I stop into whichever grocer has coke products on sale and stock up about once a month or so... Albertson's is in that circle of normal grocery stores I frequent, but today, they became THE grocery store for all my non-WF or CM needs.
Why? Because today I discovered they started carrying Dietz and Watson deli meats. I loved D&W in Baltimore, but have never found it off the east coast, so did a quick whiplash while rushing past the deli today when I saw the familiar red diamond. These are great deli products! Their Homestyle Turkey Breast tastes just like a Thanksgiving turkey and is the only fitting substitute for my fave sandwich whenever left over roasted chicken or turkey is not around - turkey, avocado, bean sprouts, spinach, muenster cheese, tomato, with dijon on multigrain bread - mmmm!
I also especially like their London Broil - very very rare (OK, bloody, but that is how I like it) and just wonderful on a good roll with horseradish!
I asked the deli lady when they started carrying Dietz and Watson and she said 3-4 months ago... OK, so I haven't been a loyal Albertsonite... but I am now a true convert and will be back weekly to worship at the alter of D&W... -

Recently voted best place to "bump carts" in Dallas by "D" Magazine, this place gives new meaning to terms like meat market and check-out line, if you're a hot single. Being a married spud myself, I'm usual oblivious to what's going on in that department. What's important to me is cleanliness, freshness, selection and price. In that order.
I visit for groceries mostly out of convenience as they are close by to home and open pretty late. I have nothing negative to say regarding their produce, meats, selection or service. It's just that the store has this general feeling of old, and dirty for some reason. They renovated a few years back, but kept the same old refrigerators so it still looks and feels kinda oogy to me. I dream of the day when H-E-B is going to come to town, buy it, gut it and rebuild it! Also, good luck finding a non-wobbly cart! One of my worst grocery pet peeves!
They seem to have a better selection than Wal-mart's neighborhood, and they usually have more employees staffing the checkout stands than Kroger on Cedar Springs. So checkout is usually painless. Also, they've ditched that STUPID membership card. So that's a BIG plus in my book! Always felt like you had to be part of the "club" to avoid being gouged. On that note, I can't say that prices are much higher than the other neighborhood grocery stores. Wanna live uptown with the cool kids? Pay up buddy!Listed in: My Neighborhood, Grocery Stores

Review from Tricia S.
Hmmm...since I'm not looking for singles, the availability of hot ones (don't think I've even noticed to tell the truth) does not bump up the star rating for this forsaken place for me. Why, oh why, does uptown not have a better grocery store? You'd think it would. I don't like driving "all the way" to the Whole Foods on Lemmon & Tollway when they don't even have everything I'm looking for...and the WalMart Neighborhood Market on Hall is similarly dismal.
I DO think this place has a gross odor. This is one of the few places I'm afraid to try a free sample. The aisles are poorly marked...they choose to display the name of one or two of the items in that aisle and it's up to you to figure out what else might be in that aisle as well (and they don't make it easy sometimes...like beans with cereal or some nonsense). The checkout lines are a cramped mess. I have to unload all my groceries into this tiny area and then put my cart on the other side (it barely fits) and then squeeze my way back around to pay on the other side? Okay...then they usually don't put the bags in the cart for me so I have to go back around to the other side and do that. And did I mention most of the carts have some sort of impairment, like a loud noise or wobbly wheel?
I do come here more frequently than I would like out of necessity, but I really wish they would open a Tom Thumb or something in its place. -

I'm like Tom C. -- I live just down the street and not a fan of going out of my way for something when I don't need to.
However, that being said, I actually do like the place pretty well, especially now they are nearing completion of the RENOVATION. Have you checked it out yet? They damn near gutted part of the store and rearranged a lot of items while at the same time increasing inventory.
Don't get me wrong, it's no Central Market, that makes me giddy just thinking about it -- but it's definitely better than it was. Cheese section has been expanded, as well as health drinks and generally most things you'd find in Eatzi's. They're obviously trying to be more "uptown".
As far as the hot peeps -- think that's just a bi-product of location. They're everywhere around here, not just in Al's.
As a supermarket that's close to me and convenient, it's A-OK. -

I would normally give this place three stars, because, well, it's just a grocery store, but like Etienne said, this is the hottest singles hang-out in the city by faaaaaaaar.
The vast majority of my dates start off in the ice cream aisle of this grocery store. It usually goes something like this:
Him: "There are so many ice cream flavors..."
Me: "Yeah, what's your favorite?"
Him: "Wanna go out sometime?"
Okay, so that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but really, that's about how it goes. I'm not complaining though - I've had some great dates! -

This Albertson's is the sad story of opportunity lost. You can wander in hungry and come out with food, so it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Yes, it is populated with attractive young people. Yes, you can hear some interesting GF/BF conversations. But their selection of prepared food leaves a LOT to be desired. If the prepared food section here was just 45% of what Eatzi's has across the Katy Trail, you'd have to double the size of the parking lot.
As it is we are talking a couple of roasted whole chickens and some hot wings. Thank god for the sushi they carry. Now go to Newflower Farmer's Market across Central and compare. -

Really 3.5, but I learned long ago it is better to round up LOL
I am biased because I literally live across the street, so you have to really yank my crank to get me to go out of my way to shop elsewhere. But luckily most of my experiences here have been positive; at least 3 times a week for the last 6 months.
Usually a good special waiting for you as you walk in the door, like buy 1 rack of ribs, and get 2 free!!!!!! No that anyone in Uptown cooks or has a freezer big enough to take advantage. Produce selection is good; rarley a wait at the deli for sliced meats.
As others have said, I am a big fan of the NO members card thing. I do shop the specials and they usually have something I want on sale. They have a decent meat selection as well as fish. I have found the pharmacy staff there particularly friendly and helpful. Wine selection isnt all that, but prices are competitive.
Not usually a line to check out, and am a big fan of the self-serve checkout. All in all, not bad for a neighborhood grocer. I'd rather die than shop the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market although it does have a few alluring qualities.....Listed in: My Dallas Uptown Neighborhood

I was once told, you get what you pay for. And here, you most certainly get what you pay for. Granted, prices may be a bit more expensive than your Neighbor"hood" Wal-Mart, but everything else that Albertsons has to offer more than makes for this small negative.
The clientele are among the city's most beautiful, which makes shopping actually enjoyable for this guy. Brushing elbows with good looking women just makes you happier.
The cashiers are friendly and since they have updated the store, I have not had to wait in line for more than a few minutes. They have real people checking you out in the express lane! Imagine that? It isn't a megastore like most suburbanites are a custom to, so the selection of products isn't mind blowing. With that being said, they always have the essentials and if there is something that you want, you can request said product.
Friendly and helpful staff, attractive shoppers, and a prime location make this the best place to buy butter and eggs in Dallas. -

I hate you Albertsons. Seriously...I do. You suck. This location sucks.
It's right in the middle of uptown so it's always busy. But there are bums hanging out by the exit begging for money and apparently they don't carry the same items other stores do. How hard is it to find the 100 calorie 6 pack of soda's? And how hard is it to find the Yoplait light yogurt packs of 12?
I gave this place a chance and it continously dissapoints. -

It's hard to say about this Albertsons...I probably wouldn't ever go here if it wasn't two blocks from my office. It's great for a quick walk through, but I can't honestly say I would ever grocery shop here.
I don't know if it's just because it's old or in fact dirty, but I've had better. Sorry Albertsons... -

Wow! I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm giving Alberstons 4 Stars. You guys are rights...this place is filled with hot singles! The layout of the store is also good and this location doesn't have that dirty fish smell that so many other locations have.

Ehh, I really hate this place. I only go because it is the closest store to me. They are often low on inventory. I would never get produce or meats/fish here. For packaged foods I guess it is fine or if I need to pick something up quickly. I would much rather go anywhere else though. There is a reason that they went out of business in San Antonio... I am not sure how they survive anywhere though.

Are you people serious!!!! Its ok Albertsons Im here to save you, from these mean mean people..Im not sure if yall were going to the same store, because I freakin LOVE this place.. not only could I walk to this place in less than 2 mins, I could get everything I needed from here..fresh fish..cereal, bread..milk what else could a person ask for?? now if you're looking for a Whole Foods or a Trader's Joe then turn your little booty around because you won't find it here..Man I have so many memories at the place..I've taken 2 of my ex's here to grace the isles in all its simple glory.. What Im trying to say is..it has a bank, a western union, place to get a 1 dollar movie, and during the summer they sale patio furniture(which I bought and loved). So get off your high horse and go buy some groceries..from Albertson's that is:)

Sorry naysayers - this Albertsons rules except it ain't cheap. I live next door, and do get annoyed if there are beggars around (usually not that bad). Selection for some stuff is impressive. Now people should do what I do - use this like a massive convenience store, and go to Wal-Mart neighborhood market (or Fiesta) once a month to stock up. Quality is good, convenience is key and their people are great - VERY well-trained staff and always friendly.
