This is the first time i had mofongo, so I dont know if this is any better than any other place. I am giving it 4 stars because the food tasted fresh and the waitstaff was very nice. But to be honest, I am not sold on the mofongo idea. It is just a heap of smashed up plantains (which I like) with tons of garlic and your choice of meats. I picked chicharron, which the meat itself was pretty good. They give you more on the side, which helped me out. My girlfriend ordered chicken mofongo, and the chicken itself was great.
I really wanted to like mofongo, but after a while, it just seems like too much plantain and then the garlic overpowers you.
It feels really fancy inside, even though the prices are very very reasonable compared to nearby restaurants. -

3 stars after a long night of drinking/dancing and you need your morning fix of Sancocho, salamai, mangu, yuca, longaniza etc. Cheap but you get what you pay for. A visit to Ailbert's (name to place recently changed) usually come with a fight or argument as everyone is usually drunk. A fight might even start in side the place that shares space with Ailbert's. Last I went a fight broke out and the security pepper sprayed dude and everyone inside started coughing.
Go to this place at your own risk. -

Pina colada gets 5 stars
churrasco gets 4 (almost too salty)
service gets 2 stars...friendly but close to incompetent...no water, no napkins til we asked -

Awful. Worst mofongo I've ever had -- and they call themselves a mofongo house. What a shame, mine was made out of sweet plantains, wtf!
And, instead of giving you a bread basket, they hand each person 1/4th of COLD italian bread, sliced the LONG way. One by one, to each person. WTF. To top that off, you think you'd at least have butter. But no, they gave some nasty oil-based liquid.
My entire party was disappointed. And I, personally, would never go back there again. -

Five stars for the patio and awesome tamarind mojito! The 25¢ wings ehhhh not so good.... one star....great place for a drink! Have to try something else to really get a feel for the food....after all its not called alberts wing house!
On a side note I think outside seating (patio) might have been where they previously stored trash...a slight odor. As they are constantly burning incense to mask it.
They do let you smoke the hooka, cigars and cigs on the patio. I'm sure in conjunction with the incense they are hoping to mask the smell of trash.
The trash odor was prevalent enough that my wife said there was no way she could eat back there. But not bad enough to not make us go back and enjoy drinks. -

I purchased a $40 groupon for 4 people. when i got there the Groupon menu- which by the way they have it spelled out as "group on" on the menu was this cheesy made up version of there real menu. It did not include half of what they said i would get. there are a total of 4 appetizer choices and 5 main course choices. The waiter was nice but took too long with everything. the food was ok. I hate groupon now for allowing this type of non-sense.

It's a pretty loud restaurant. Service was ok. I had chicharron mofongo, which I don't recommend because it has too much fat. However my friend had the shrimp mofongo which was pretty good. The piña coladas are excellent.

Being dominican, you grow up on a gazillion ways on how to eat a platano.
But mangu and mofongo are my top two choices.
Bringing my gringo boyfriend to a mofongo place can either go two ways:
he can walk in and be like " wtf" and run out OR he can walk in and blend in better than me!
the latter happened.
First off, the service if very good, very much like back in DR...down to the tasting pina colada ( which by the way ROCKS!) and the corn salad.
presentation is key here, to serve mofongo you cant just put it on a plate and call it a day.
And this place knows who to present it.
I try to stick with the normal chicarron mofungo but i have gone down the way of trying it with shrimp. all good!!!
all in all, it made a dominicana wish she were back in DR and it made her gringo boyfriend wanna go to DR. -

I will make this short:
Great piña coladas,
Mofongo is brought in a pilon ( the thing where they mash it) and its so good
Sometimes takes too long, the buffet is new and seems ok.
very reasonable prices.
Location is great but no parking or garage near by.
The staff is good, and they have karaoke nights or some live person singing... -

I give it a 5 star because I love their buffet. I live in Forest Hill, Queens, which take me 90 min to get there on public transportation, but I have a friend who lives around in the area of this restaurant. I was so happy that I found this Dominican buffet. The food is so good, love all of the variety they offer. There food is fresh as well, their bacalao, and spaghetti, wow, nothing like a Dominican style! I highly recommend this place if you are in that mood for some Dominican food, great restaurant to bring your whole family. Make sure you come really hungry because you will eat here and will want to eat everything they offer.
Their price for the buffet in under $10, make sure you order a "Morir Sonando" drink. I love it!
I've already recommended this place to friends and family! -
Review from David Z.
My friend and I enjoyed a meal here recently. They bring you complimentary plantain chips and pina colada shots when you sit down, and the atmosphere is very fun and convivial (various sports on flat screens and a mostly Latin crowd).
We bought a http://Restaurant.com certificate beforehand, which saves a lot of money, or gives you financial room to order extra stuff (like a pina colada and sangria).
The food was quite good...I had the entree salmon (as opposed to the salmon mofongo). My friend had the goat mofongo, which, as is the case with all goat dishes I've ever had, required some serious work to separate meat from bone and fat.
The mofongo was quite good, but it wasn't until the next day that I learned how it's made: with lots of pork fat. So not something you want to eat a lot of.
Service started good, but they didn't seem to want to bring us a check... -

They're hardcore about carding baby-faced customers like me when offering the free piña colada shot. Definitely worth it, though.
Had to try the Chicharon Mofongo ($13), which was soft without the broth (score!) but lacked a crispy outer crust that I like. I also prefer a tomato sauce as opposed to their broth. The extra chicharon and side salad were a nice touch.
Filled out a consumer survey in exchange for 20% off my bill. Service was polite and attentive.
If I'm ever in the area, I'd stop in for a piña colada. Otherwise, I'll stick to El Castillo De Jagua for a cheaper, closer, and overall better mofongo fix. -

This place has a new outdoor patio area which is hard to spot unless you ask the hostess about it. They have 25cent chicken wings there which they BBQ outside right by you. They have 2 delicious sauces to top it with. The drinks are good but a little steep at $10. Tasted the pina colada which was awesome but on a budget so just had a dozen chicken wings num num. Worth going with some friends to share a bunch of chicken wings and the staff was really, really nice.

Staten Island, NY
I must have had buffet here at least 7 times; I live 4 blocks away. Its buffet food offerings can be described as: great, tasty, practical, and fattening. You can actually just have salads and the less fattening preparations on the board. I love the platano based dishes. The mofongo is ordered separately & not part of the buffet, apparently. The staff always assume you'd speak Spanish to them; they'd get help though from an English speaking staff if you're short with details of your order (they have drinks that are from Dominican Republic, which may interest you). And they're open 24 hours everyday (& they have a separate sports bar, with its own entrance) .

Review from Elaine O.
Daly City, CA
I thought it was cute that they served us an amuse bouche of corn kernels with red bell peppers in a tangy dressing plus a slice of cheese. They also gave us tiny shots of pina colada. We shared the chicharron mofongo and lechon pernil with fried yucca. The mofongo was delicious; they served it with a corn salad, extra liquid garlic to moisten up the mofongo, and lots of perfectly fried chicharron. I felt like oil was coming out of my pores while eating the dish, but I don't care. I love mofongo. The lechon pernil was succulent and flavorful, and the portion was huge. I wish we were hungrier, because I definitely would have killed both dishes.

My friends took me to Albert's Mofongo late in the night on my birthday. The restaurant was dark and almost empty, sports playing on tv, only a few patrons, one froggy man sitting in the front table gawking at the night club singer while we were debating whether she was fat or stacked. We were drunk enough on their excellent pina coladas (some of the best I've ever had) to convince the waitress in Spanish to dance with my friend. I had never seen or heard of mofongo before I ordered it. It came in a tall wooden souvenir drinking glass. I soon figured out what the hard mashed potato like substance was, and noticed with disappointment that it didn't fill the drinking glass. It was slightly dry and bland, yet salty and accentuated by the butter and the little cubes of fried cheese. Now I have experience and prefer La Casa del Mofongo.

New York, NY
I like this place a lot. I feel that the food has a real authentic taste and that's key when trying to present yourself as a real Dominican eatery in Northern Manhattan. I love the piña colada and I really recommend that everyone tryu the food here. The only downside is that sometimes the service seems to lag a bit, and if you go in with an appetite, though it will be satiated, you might have to wait a while before it does.

Only had rice, beans, chicken and such from here, and only as take out, pick, or delivery, but the food has always been very good and the service very efficient.
Delivery and pick up via their web system went very well. Fast delivery. -

i don't care for this place. their buffet is very limited, in my opinion and it just feels very closed in; enough to make a person claustrophobic.
Listed in: uptown baby, we gets down…
