I've lived in or around Norwalk most of my life and I can't even recall how long ago I started coming here. People are complaining about it not having "authentic" Mexican, but any place that serves burritos isn't necessarily authentic.
In saying that, you come here for a certain something. It's a hole in the wall and I will rate it as such. Don't try to get the exotic stuff... like Lengua or tripas or anything like that. Stay on the paved road I say. Keep it simple... Carne asada or carnitas... Burritos, quesadilla supreme, mini/super nachos and fries. I've never had guacamole like this place makes it, and any of these items they put it on is just gold.
Once again, this is an inexpensive hole in the wall, and as such... this is one of the best and most reliable one of its kind. It's nothing flashy, but it always hits the spot... even if it IS the wrong spot sometimes.

All i'm going to say is Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, all you need to know is...

Ham & Egg (breakfast) burrito with potato, NO pico de gallo, and a side of chips.  Request Red AND Green salsa.  The green is for the burrito and the red if for the chips.

Order this and eat it this way ONLY and I promise you it is the best meal you will ever have.

    Gross!

I've been there twice and never again! Some one said it was authentic?? No WAY!!

The first time I went I ordered a wet burrito.  Disappointing! I took it home and by the time I did dive in it was ice cold and I live 4 min away!! I had to put it in the microwave to heat up the whole thing and it was still unacceptable! None of the ingredients had good flavor and because I had to microwave it completely messed up the tortilla.

I thought it was an off evening so I gave them another try.  I ordered Lengua (beef tongue) tacos and was really looking forward to them thinking this is an authentic Mexican place.  They were horrible!! First they put they gave me King size corn tortillas!! Whoever heard of authentic Mexican tacos in those big things! Second the meat was totally tasteless and rubbery and third they were (can you guess)...COLD!!! Tortillas crumble and break when they are not heated through properly and this is what happened.  I don't think the cooks care a lick about their job.

Awful place and they keep popping up everywhere!! I don't get the attraction. Well maybe because they attract the drunk after hours crowd who will eat anything!

    Boo!!

I've been coming to this Alberts location as well as the one alongside it (they're both owned by the same family) for years now. I can't say a single bad thing about them. They never fail to serve up a huge portion of your favorite Mexican meal at a convenient price.

If you're ever in town I would definitely suggest you get the Albert's burrito along with their Super Fries. Huge chance you won't finish both in one sitting, but it's worth it!

Love this place. Stays open late and the workers are very nice. My favorite is the carne asada super fries or nachos. But really you can't go wrong with anything you order. It is small but I love sitting inside eating my food while it is hot. The guacamole is sooooo good.

    4 stars -authentic food
    5 stars- speediness
    1 star - safety

Came here several times and always had great authentic Mexican food.  Never had a disappointing order thus far.  Everything is authentic and the service is really fast and kitchen seems clean.

The only problem I have is that Norwalk is filled with the most ghetto crack addicts and bums you'll see anywhere besides Skid Row itself. Every time I've come here late night to pick up food on the way out, there are thugs and drug addicts everywhere.. in the store, the parking lot, etc.

Last time I was there picking up food with my bf, a ratty looking guy walked right up to my bf in line, got in my bf's face and just stared at him for literally 20 seconds without saying anything.  Then he asked for $5! not $1, not a quarter, but $5! My bf denied his request and the guy kept staring at him and actually took a few steps our way and followed us out of the line.  It was apparent that he was high on some heavy drugs.  Then the weirdo went around to the other patrons and begged for change.  Omg... luckily my bf was there to protect me cus for once, I was actually scared the guy was gonna flip or do something crazy.

After a little research, I found out that there is a halfway house down the block near 7-11 and a fast food place down the other side of the block that is a drug selling corner.  I have a friend that works with the police department and told me about their operations to crack down on the crackheads in town.

If you're bf isn't a knuckle boxing champion like mine, I suggest you...

come strapped, with your Kung-Fu,  or...don't come at all lol

Morning. MidDay. Late Afternoon. Evening. Midnight.

They are always open it seems!

Taquitos are good, burritos are yum...BUT the BEST thing on their menu is their Super Nachos! I always order mine with no guac with a side of pico de gallo and plenty of lemons. The chips stay crunchy for so long!

Its a whole in the wall place, no restrooms, 2 windows to order from and they are SUPER prompt!! You can see the kitchen from the register. I like that!

I was getting my car washed next door and had a couple minutes to kill, so my bf and I decided to get some tacos at Albert's. I don't know how this place has 4 stars....

This place is your typical hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint. We ordered 4 Carne Asada tacos and a large Coke. All the workers were singing together while we they were cooking our tacos. It actually made me look forward to eating my tacos. One extra star for that.

We came home and the tacos looked pretty standard with the meat, cilantro, onions, lemon slice, and radish slices. It's a shame the Carne Asada had NO FLAVOR. I also found a GRAY HAIR in one of my tacos.

I asked my bf if he liked it, and he said he tasted better. Even though we have different taste buds, I would have to agree with him on this one.

Okay i come here all the time mainly for two reasons. It's almost ALWAYS open when I'm in the area. My girlfriend loves Mexican food. which in turn makes me eat Mexican food 75% of the time.
When i come here i usually get one of two things. super/mini nachos or super/mini fries. which are both totally bomb. The super fries may be my last meal on earth because they're super unhealthy but they are too delicious to pass up. I always get mine with no guacamole. I'm just not a fan of guacamole. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for cheap fast Mexican food.

Gotta give some hometown Yelp love to Alberts!

As far as I know, Albert's is NOT a chain.  There are a lot of copy cat restaurants, each, I'm sure, with a legion of fans all saying that their Alberts is the original.  At any rate, take it from me that this place is the BOMB!

    Alberts is NOT gourmet.

Alberts is NOT organic, hormone-free, farmers market-fresh fare.

Alberts is NOT for the faint of heart!

Alberts does ROCK YOUR TASTEBUDS (and arteries)!  It's great tasting frijole goodnes!!

It's open late (and packed) and great the next morning, too!

Although I had only a bean n cheese with guacamole burrito last night, it totally hit the spot.  The taquitos are awesome (get an order of 10 with guacamole and cheese on top) and share with friends (or not).  The burrito mojados kick ass.  Even the chips with guacamole and cheese are addicting.

The staff are friendly but are native spanish speakers.  Don't be afraid if you don't speak spanish.  The language of tacos is universal!

In short, Alberts is fantastic whether you are in Norwalk late after partying or just got married at the county building or just got out on bail!!

Hungry and don't have a lot of money to spend on food? Then go to Albert's in Norwalk (or any of their other locations). This place serves better quality of fast food style Mexican cuisine compared to Del Taco, Taco Bell and most other taquerias out there. And at a much more affordable price. I'd give this place 5 stars but I have mixed fillings about their serving sizes - they are HUGE!!! I hate to admit it, but places like these encourage over eating and obesity because the food is so good and cheap with humongous portions.

My brother recently moved to this part of town and he and I love taquitos. He said this place served really good taquitos, so we went there when I visited him last weekend. Its located beside a car wash place. I think it used to be part of the Alberto's chain that ended up fragmenting in the late 90's. Its not a large restaurant, but there is outdoor patio seating, in addition to the 4 booth tables they have inside. The place is open 24/7 and their video security camera monitors the place out in the open. My brother said he has been at this place at different times of the day and night and they always seem to be the same employees. he wondered if they ever went home to sleep. I told him they must have cots in the back - half kidding.

My brother ordered their 10 taquitos plate special and I decided to to try their 2 enchilada special - I ordered 1 beef and 1 cheese. I took a pic of the entire menu and posted it so you can how ridiculously cheap this place is.

When the food arrived, I was floored at the size of the taquitos plate. i don't think I have ever seen cheese piled up that high. I had trouble trying to fit the entire dish on a  horizontal view on my camera, so I took one vertical shot as well. The enchilada plate also looked very filling, just on sight alone.

I must admit the taquitos are really good. They use real guacamole, not that fake stuff that many taquerieas use nowadays. The cheese blend of nacho and jack cheese was a bit bland. I wish they used that white, dry Mexican cheese instead. I'm guessing Albert's buys the cheap nacho and jack cheese in bulk with their other stores and pass on the savings to their customers. The taquitos themselves had a good flavor and perfectly crunchy. They are a little larger and thicker than I prefer - I like the slender ones better. Overall, they are almost as good as my fave taquitos from Colima's down in San Diego.

The beef enchilada I had was good. The meet was very tender and they cooked the bell peppers thoroughly so that I didn't get a case of burping afterward - I end up burping a lot if I eat raw or undercooked bell peppers.  The cheese enchilada was also good. Not the best that I have ever had, but still good. The side of rice and beans were also good quality.

For a beverage, I had their extra sized Horchata. I forget the brand that they used, but its good horchata. Not as good as home made horchata of course, but a lot better than that ubiquitous Ole brand.

I would definitely come back for future visits, but I'll make sure that I come in hungry.

The service is quick and efficient. There is sufficient parking in the back of the building.

If you're in the mood for Mexican fast-food, this is the place to go!
Not Adalberto's nor Alfredo's and definately not Alberto: A-L-B-E-R-T-S.
You won't find wimpy ass portions of that Tex-Mex crap you get at Taco Bell. This is as close to authenticity as you can get without driving down to Baja. Heck, their refried beans are reminiscent of mom's own. Albert's never disappoints and it's open late night (past 1AM) all week, for those midnight munchies.

I'd recommend their Super Fries: loads of soft, chewy fries topped with globs of re-fried beans, carne asada, crema Mexicana (fresh cream), shredded cheese and guacamole. Top them off with some salsa and you're good to go!
If you're a burrito-lover, look no further! Albert's burritos are BIG. With a large, flour tortilla filled with the meat of your choice and dozens of customizable options, don't be surprised if half of it is left on your plate after stuffing your face. The "machaca" (shredded beef, scrambled eggs, onions, tomato) burrito is a personal favorite of mine and especially delicious as a breakfast treat. Their fish tacos are also a worthy mention, and a good size for the price.

Albert's carne asada is pretty typical of any taqueria (taco stand): nothing special or fancy but the toppings and portions seriously make up for it. The staff is real friendly, especially if you're a regular and orders are usually ready within 5 minutes or so. Parking is a breeze too, unless you have to compete with the car wash next door. Albert's is price friendly for your average, starving college student. The only bad side: they don't accept debit/credit cards, so bring your pesos.

    EDIT: 08/06/09
Still the best late night, hang out spot in town. Now made better by accepting credit cards. That's love for us plastic whores.

As close to a San Diego style burrito as I can find, without having to drive down to San Diego...

The super fries are good, as well as the Albert's burrito.  Best was a few years ago when they actually had a few calendars that they gave out.  VERY classy thing to hang up at work... :)

Were you people drunk when you ate here?! What's up with the 5 stars?...This place doesn't even deserve 1 star much less 5...it's awful!! Service totally sucks...but if the food were good or at least decent I could deal with bitchiness behind the counter but this has the lochness monster behind the counter and the food is swamp...YUCK!! I Would NEVER EVER come here again...not even if I were DRUNKKKKKKK...& when you're drunk all your feelings are impaired so anything taste like heaven, right?

Sooooooo...... if your only experience of Albert's has been during a 3 a.m. drunk run and the food was wonderful...I highly encourage you to come here on a sober mission and I assure you that it will be your last visit to this sorry ass restaurant...which supposedly serves 'Mexican' food...

They got some nerve calling that junk 'Mexican' food...LMFAO

Get here early if you want to beat the after-hours crowd once all the bars and clubs close. This place is tiny but it gets packed quick because the food here is cheap and good!

I came last night with friends after a night of bar-hopping and we all had the drunk munchies. Service is super quick, but the tables outside were a little dirty. Who's complaining at 2:30 in the morning though, right?

I got a bean and cheese burrito that was super gooey and delicious. It was so huge, I couldn't even finish it and I had someone helping me. Not bad for $5. The famed carne asada fries were also really good and sober you right up!

The only thing I wasn't crazy about were the people who came here (mostly drunk, rowdy guys). I'm sure a lot of fights go down at this place but luckily nothing happened last night. I noticed a lot of people ate and took off in a hurry...the people who hang around seemed like they were looking to pick up or start some trouble so be alert.

I believe alot of taco stand now copy Albert's specialty, their "Albert's Burrito" which comes with carne asada, pico de gallo, cheese, and french fries wrapped in big and soft flour tortilla.  I know they've had this before anyone else because ive been comming here for over 12 years now.

Thier food is great, and is never overpriced. Best of all, they share a parking lot with a car wash so you can kill two birds with one stone. Eat great mexican food while getting ur ride fresh!

This is hands down the all-around best option for Mexican food in Norwalk.  The only gripe I have with Albert's is that it is cash only.

The restaurant is small, you can order inside, but they also have an outside window for those on the go.  Most orders are finished in about 5 minutes.  The prices are nice and cheap for the amount of food you're getting.  Every single item I have tried has been nothing short of great, but I always go back to the Super Fries (Carne asada, french fries, sour cream, guacamole, beans, and cheese) and the Albert's Burrito (Carne asada, pico de gallo, french fries and cheese burrito).  My personal favorite part about this place is that even though it's a small restaurant, they take phone orders (562)863-5599, and it takes less than a minute outside of your car to get your meal.

Best late night meal in Norwalk.
    Best Mexican food in Norwalk.
    Quick Service.

    Cash only...

The only complaint i have about this Albert' is the black homeless guy  with the crazy beard that comes back every 20 minutes or so.  One time he asked this old lady for a dollar and she gave him a dollar and then he goes, "can i get another?"  Another time he comes up to me and says, "BUY ME A BURRITO!"  so i said, "FUCK YOU, BUY ME A CAR!" Anyway, the workers know about him and try to chase him away whenever they can.

Alberts Burrito is awesome but my new favorite burrito is the Pollo Asado with rice and fries inside.  I call it the 420 burrito b/c it came out to $4.20 and also, I was high when i ate it.

I haven't tried much else at this place but I am perfectly happy if this was all they had on their menu because I would be completely happy. I would suggest coming to this place just to get these taquitos.

They have a second location on the other side of the block on Imperial. Also, if you love carne asada, try the carne asada burrito, no beans, with cheese. The thing is bursting with meat.

i feel that I should update my review. My comments on the food still stands, But unfortunately I have an issue with the service. After paying with my debit card, they forgot to return it to me. After checking my account I found that they had charged my account for extra cash. They did reinburst me for what they charged, but unfortunately that still didn't halp with the fact that I had to change my account and all the headaches of changing all my account tied to this card.

pay cash! as far as us, I don't think we'll return.......sad....

Good food, good prices. One of my fav places to come after a long night out.  The taquitos are off the chain.

best burrito ever. the signature self titled- Albert's Burrito. it's the only thing i order, so you can say i'm a little biased with this review of the joint.  it costs about $4, leaving your pockets a little light, your stomach a little tight, but your heart a little right.
i dont try anything else because it hits the spot and also because i feel like i have to know what i want when i get there. there's always customers and they work fast. it's open late. dining inside and out.
sometimes it's annoying that the car wash adjacent takes up a lot of the parking space on weekends.
i'd enjoy this spot more if it were a little classier.
