Had the Santee breakfast burrito. It was delicious. I rated this place a 5 because the woman who took my order was super sweet, my burrito was good, and this place is very clean.

I got take-out and ordered the cheese enchiladas with black beans and rice. They were good, but not amazing.
The service was good and speedy, tho, which was nice.
I will come back whenever I'm in the neighborhood and in the mood for some taco shop. -

This is a Yummy average Mexican Taco Shop!
My cousin once told me to order their "Roll tacos" So being a serious Mexican food Fan I did the next day!
They were HUGE and really amazing! I enjoyed it. Me and the wife went and sit inside for dinner and their customer Serivces was amazing and very friendly.
I'd go back i really forgot this time to go on my vacation in san diego now am kinda sad bc am getting flash back of those yummy huge roll tacos just truly Fireworks in your mouth!! -

Alberts has delicious food! We have been going there for years. They also have very good customer service. If you ever have an issue talk to Albert. He is very willing to correct any mistakes his staff might make. Mistakes happen. We all know that, it's how they handle those mistakes! A+

Mmm Mmm good! I've been here twice and both times I had great experiences. The Horchata is very sweet & on point. The burritos are named after cities in San Diego. La Mesa, Santee, etc. I can't remember the name of the burritos but if I were to see the ingredients, I would remember! Definitely fresh and good food. It's been busy both times I came in. It's a very clean mexican restaurant & I highly recommend it.

Went to eat while down visiting in El Cajon. Food was good. I'd go again if I lived in the area.

Went for the first time ordered the Cali Burrito with guac as suggested.. YUM! Comments made about the tortillas are dead on! One suggestion, phone in the order ahead of time as it did take a little bit to cook, no problems for me as I don't mind waiting for good food! I can't wait to go back and try some other items!

Albert's is sooo good. I stick to the Surf n Turf burrito. It is tasty. The sauce in it is really good. I usually get it to go, but when you eat there, the service is great. Salsa and carrot bar and they bring you out some chips. Also ordered some Micheladas, which were pretty awesome. My husband ordered the chimichanga plate and it was so much food for the price. I tried a little bit and it was really good! Quality for a good price.
I guess I should extend my variety and try other things, but the Surf n Turf is so good I can't stray just yet. -

The food is consistently good. I love the shrimp ceviche tostada, shrimp tacos, and the surf and turf burrito. The salsa is fresh and tasty. It can get crowded, so phone in your to go order, and it will be waiting for you.

Rancid meat; dirt in the cilantro! Eat at your own risk!! These experiences were on two different occasions - never again.

Actually, this place really deserves 1 pathetic star. This is no "taco shop," no "authentic" mexican joint, and honestly, nothing special.
I came back again to order a surf and turf burrito....
honestly how can one make a surf a turf taste the fish scrum? well, alberts seems to clearly do it....
unless Lolitas is 100 times better, or my taste buds are failing...this place blows.
got sausage for rolled tacos and not the stringy beef...got nasty ass shrimp scum and old beans for my surf and turf...
i am disgusted and will never come back again.....
luckily...there is a NEW place right across....although it's still blehk.
dining in rancho cannot get any worse.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Mitch B.
Yeah it's 4-5 star good! Very clean, fresh ingredients, friendly staff (some HOT chicas working there too). Beer and wine only. Even though the place has seating and an actual restaurant side, it still maintains that taco shop feel.
WHEN YOU GO- the breakfast burritos and chilliqulias are great! Carne and fish tacos are excellent as well. The giant rolled tacos that they are famous for? Not so much...beef were dry and flavorless. They had to be drowned in the green sauce bring them up to even 3 stars. Still, the strength of the rest of the menu pushes the rating to 4 stars for me. -

In an older, unassuming strip mall at the corner of Jamacha and Chase you'll find a cool new Mexican joint. Inside, Albert's is a little like a Rubio's except with a couple of TVs and a cleaner floor.
We've come here nearly a dozen times since they opened and it's always good. The burritos are huge, the big tacos are big, and the prices are about right for a nicer than average taco shop. For something a little different, try the lettuce wraps. Oh, and yes, they have a nice selection of bottled Mexican beers!! -

Stop by for breakfast this morning on the way to Sprouts. I ordered the "Cajon Breakfast Burrito" which came with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, beans, and cheese. The burrito was well filled and delicious. I recommend it. My friend had Albert's Burrito which was full of carne asada eggs, cheese, and guacamole. He excluded the potatoes. He said it was excellent. The place is well priced for the amount of food you get, and don't forget the complimentary chips and salsa bar!

What the hell is a "Giant Rolled Taco"? I've never gotten the courage to order one, because I'm a huge fan of bertomex style fried fish burritos.
Based on my limited El Cajon Bertos Clone experience, I prefer this one because it's quiet, seems fresh, and they give you some chips with your order.Listed in: Lunch in El Cajon

I've only been here about 10 times so far over a long period of time. They have excellent burritos. I tried the potato rolled tacos last time because my wife has been wanting to give them a try, we both did not care for them at all. Overall great food great staff.

I have read some where this is the home of the big rolled tacos.
And YES it is! They are big and meaty!
Also very fresh food with entrees that are names of San Diego counties.
New and clean atmosphere.
Really enjoyed my lunch! -

Being a east county San Diego native, I am VERY partial when it comes to taco shops. When this place opened i was very skeptical to try it, as the place that was before it was pretty terrible. Much to my surprise, this place has become my go to taco shop and I have yet to be disappointed.
My favorite item on the menu has to be the surf and turf burrito. (hint: substitute the beans for fries...bomb) What gets me excited about this place is the fresh ingredients and the quality of the carne asada. No matter what you get it on, be it taco, burrito, fries, etc. this place surely got it right. -

Wow! Just found this Mexi joint at the corner of Jamacha and Chase in El Cajon area. My chiropractor is in the same little strip/corner mall. Really great food! We had the quesadilla with carne asada and it was LOADED with carne asada that was delicious and marinated with great flavor. We also had the flautas (meal) and they were huge...outstanding flavor, very crispy (not soggy like some), and heaped with sour cream and guac.
Prices are reasonable and service was nice - they don't rush it, which is fine with me 'cause you get a better product. -

Hands down the best Mexican food in east county. Unlike others the tortilla is key and they have it down. Everything I have had there has been great. A must try.

I hate giving a 3 star review to a place that should have gotten a 5 star review. First they are very friendly and pretty fast. I ordered the big roll tacos but they screwed up what I wanted on them and they are not exactly cheap. The carne chips were skimpy. They ask you if you want salsa, i said yes. They gave me 3 which is plenty however only one made it home. There was salsa all over the bag. Will return because the food was pretty decent.

I absolutely love and recommend the shrimp ceviche tostada and the Surf n Turf Burrito. The staff is very friendly and the food is fast. The only down side is the cheese and guacamole taste a bit powdery to me so I try to get things without them. Over all this is a family favorite.

Holy Goodness! This was the best "fast" mexican food I've had recently! I had the Rancho burrito which is a healthier option - it has a whole wheat tortilla, shredded chicken and black beans. So yummy! I was STUFFED with chicken. My hubby had the Norseman burrito which was fabulously tasty! The staff was so nice bringing us a number of baskets of chips since the wait was a bit long...but it was worth the wait! You have to give them a try!

literally best california burrito ever if you add guacamole but seriously i have probably had 100's of these and out of all the california burritos ive tried living in san diego my whole life nothing can quite compare. it starts off with the deliciously tasty tortilla and the carne asada here has so much flavor. it is overall amazing! i image the carne asada fries would be delicious too but i can never order anything else cuz that california burrito is sooooo good!

Went here the other night with friends before cub scouts. The inside was nice and clean and the place was busy. I had the carne asada tacos and they were really yummy. My daughter was happy because she was able to have a kids corn dog w/fries. The food was very fresh and the salsa was good, not too spicy though. My only complaint with the place is that as our party of 8 sat waiting for our food, meals were brought out one at a time. Not too good especially when it is the kids who are waiting for their food staring at us adults were served first.

I recently went over to Albert's to give it a try. A couple of my friends had recommended the rolled tacos so I gave it a try. I am assuming I got the wrong ones. I ordered the ground beef giant rolled tacos and to be honest, they needed a little work. The ground beef inside left much to be desired. In addition to that, it literally took 10 minutes for my order. There was only one person working the register and while I was waiting, I saw her go outside to look at a puppy (while there was two people who hadn't even given their order yet). I will probably give this place another try, but for the price and lack of service, I would rather go to Hilberto's.

3 big rolled tacos are AWESOME. Guacamole is soo good and authentic. Rice and beans are delicious as well. I love them sooo much I haven't really tried anything else yet but they've got quite a bit of variety on the menu. I hate that I moved a little farther away but it's still worth the 20 minute drive out there to get my big rolled taco fix.

Yay for Albert's! We had been heading into the Ralph's shopping center on Jamacha when we got the craving for Mexican food, but I'm glad we decided to head the opposite way and try Albert's - its our new favorite Mexican place close to home.
The first time we stopped in was for breakfast. The breakfast burritos are huge and delicious, and the chilaquiles were soooo good. I've been craving them ever since!
A few weeks later we called in a to-go order for dinner, super easy and the food was ready in 10 minutes! Those "big" rolled tacos really are big and delightful! We also got the carne asada fries and I liked how they put nacho cheese sauce on theirs, haven't seen that before on carne asada fries and it was a nice addition. The chile relleno burrito was okay, I liked it but will probably try something else next time. Because there will be a next time - this place is good! -

El Cajon, CA
This place is my new place to go to for Mexican Food. Their salsa is pretty good, but my only complaint is that their Salsa Bar is not up to par. That's why I gave them 4 stars. If they add more of a variety of salsa's and actually have containers readily available to us I would give them the 5 stars. Otherwise this place is the best mexican joint in Rancho SD

I LOVE taco shops and am a big fan...always searching for the next great place. Alberts is by far one of San Diego's finest. The selection is fantastic, but I am a burrito person mostly. The burrito's are HUGE and well made. They do not skimp. The only problem I have with the place is the fact that sometimes it takes a while to make your order....but it is worth the wait! This place is a must-try.......Oh, and the giant rolled tacos are some of the best i've had outside of El Indio!
