Albertos is definitely the best pizza in the city. Unfortunately, it's hampered by terrible delivery and long waits. I've never managed to get a delivery in less than 60-90 minutes. They tell me they can't deliver to my place, even though they've done it dozens of times.  My pizza is typically cold when I get it. But, it's SO GOOD. Crispy thing crust, amazing sausage, the parmesan cheese sprinkled on top....it's absolutely delicious.

If you're getting pick up, there's no problem, and this should be your go-to location.

I recommend the Chi-Town. Also, get extra garlic on the pizza. It's worth it.

Dude, ordered a pizza for delivery & it sucked.  Really bad.

    1) The pizza itself was bad: It arrived not very warm with a charred bottom and the ingredients (cheese/sauce) were not very good, just yuck.

    2)  It took an hour for them to deliver!!  It was one medium size pizza and I live less than half a mile away.

    Wouldn't order from them again.

After quite an eventful evening, my friends and I decided that what we really needed at 4:00 in the morning, was an omelet, some hash browns, maybe some pancakes. No, no - we didn't crave sleep. Or anything else some single twenty-somethings might want at 4am. All we needed for euphoric, satisfaction that night, was breakfast. I guess hanging around so many bamas at Ozio really works up a girl's appetite!

We head to The Diner in Adam's Morgan, but there is a 20 min wait at 4:00am?! We were not having that so pizza would have to do. Time to cross the street to Alberto's for some cheesy goodness!

At first sight, I was so underwhelmed and disappointed by the look of this pizza. It looked depressed and malnourished - thin, colorless crust, and scarcely topped. I head back over to The Diner to double-check on that wait time. When I come back to Alberto's where I had left some friends, I realized that they had gone ahead and ordered a large pepperoni pizza.

My friend pays for the pizza, we jump in the car and everyone immediately goes to work on the pizza. I dug in and was shocked, amazed and pleasantly surprised how frickin' delicious this pizza was!! What the heck?! The crust was crisp and the seasonings on the pizza really had a kick! Everyone in the car was impressed as well as evidenced by  their moans of delight.

Not the action some may be looking for, but on that night it was just what we needed to satisfy us!

When I stared at the freshly baked pizza behind the glass at 4AM, I rubbed my eyes thinking $5/slice?!!?  However, I opened the boxes and was surprised with two slices per order!  Lesson learned - sharing is caring.

Other than that, the only thing you need to know is that the chicken pesto pizza is literally a slice of heaven...and the artichoke tomato is knockin on heaven's door.

I was pumped to stumble across this place in my neighborhood recently.  Nobody in their right mind -- and by that I mean not totally plastered -- would eat pizza in Adams Morgan.  But this place leaves an option for those of us who live in the neighborhood and don't just stumble in to tie one on and puke in the gutter.

It's a huge slice, a good crispy thin crust and interesting toppings.  The prices aren't bad although they go up considerably with the fancier toppings.  And the nicest thing is, the really drunk people still flock to Jumbo Slice and don't come in here so you can even get a slice after a night out on the weekend.

New pizza place in Adams Morgan?  Stone oven-baked, Chicago style?  Well damn! It must be better than the other pizza to be found on 18th Street.  So I bought some and took it home.

Pretty darn good! This is thin, crispy crust pizza, with a bit of char on the bottom (as one other pizza yelper calls it).  But it's baked in advance and put on display, so it was bound to not be as good as made to order gourmet stuff, like Pizzeria Paradiso.  Despite that, I was impressed by the texture and flavors.

They give you a quarter of a regular sized pie.  I got one Roma tomato with artichoke hearts, and one spinach with mushrooms.  Also offered today were a pepperoni, a Canadian bacon with pineapple, a vegetarian mix, and a pepperoni with sausage. I think there were 2 more types, but they must not have appealed to me, 'cause I don't remember them.

The pieces I brought home were both quite tasty, with fresh ingredients, and not too much cheese. They didn't have much sauce, if any -- I couldn't care less, because that lets the toppings speak for themselves. Maybe the other pies had more sauce, if that's what turns you on.

Cost: Between 3 and 5 bucks per quarter pie, depending on the toppings.  One piece makes a meal.  Two pieces makes leftovers.

This is the same Alberto's as down at 20th & P. I've never been to that one, but for some reason I'm thinking it was in a basement?  This one in AM certainly doesn't have much ambience for dining in, but I'm sure plenty of people will on a regular Adams Morgan weekend night, since this place stays open until 4 am.

    Take that, Pizza Mart!

When I'm in Adam's Morgan, the night is winding down, and I'm hankering for some good drunk pizza, I usually skip the neon siren song that is Jumbo Slice and head to Alberto's.  It's certainly less crowded than JS and in my opinion, the pizza is a lot better.  It's not like the massive novelty-size slice; don't get me wrong, the slices are huge, but they're not really huge for the sake of being huge like JS pizza is.  Plus, it's a lot less greasy!

Best of all, they have great topping options.  Instead of JS where it's pretty much either pepperoni or cheese, Alberto's has a variety of toppings to satisfy any craving.  The people who work there are also pretty nice, which is nothing short of a miracle for serving blackout drunk people a couple hours every night.  Kudos!

I'd also give this place 3.5 stars (if that were possible).  Definitely above-average pizza, but it's nothing special.  If you're looking for cheap food to grab and go, you could do worse.

I was confused that this place says it serves "Chicago Pizza" but the pizza has a thin crust.  Oh well.  That said, the crust on my slice was quite good.  The cheese and toppings -- just average.

Eating in and take-out is ok, but don't order delivery, unless you want your food 3 hours later!

We were at a party in Columbia Heights. People got hungry and wanted pizza. I threw out that Alberto's has pretty good pizza so we called for 3 pizzas. An hour later, no pizza, we called and were told that the guy's 5 minutes away. Half an hour later, still no pizza guy, called again and were told that this time the delivery guy's REALLY almost there. Another half hour went by, people were starving and started to eat the appetizers they had previously stopped eating to save room for pizza. Not a good sign, got the same answer when called again so we told them that they better not charge us full price when the pizzas finally get here. Finally almost 3 hours later, the delivery guy made it to the house. We could've walked to Adam's Morgan and back 5 times in that time!! And it wasn't like we ordered specialty pizzas, we ordered cheese, pepperoni and veggie.

We only paid half of what we were supposed to and the pizzas were at least still decent. But it definitely wasn't worth the 3-hour wait.

Ahhhh, Alberto's, my go-to staple meal of post-saturday, late night antics. Even when I'm sober, it's still just as delicious.

Wonderfully thin crust - perfectly crunchy at the ends, like how it should be and with a great smattering of toppings. Sausage and pepperoni is my absolute favourite here, but on nights when I'm feeling it - the good old cheese slice really hits the spot.

Plus the slices are massive, and one 1/4 pie piece (pies are 18 inches, and the 1/4 pie is the standard slice size) is the perfect serving size for lunch, a late night snack, or dinner (when I'm being really, really lazy).

Good on its own, but even better with all the little additions like oregano, parmesan, garlic powder and chili flakes. Alberto's is definitely the place to go when you want a good slice of pizza.

    I'm a pizza connoisseur.

This place is obviously good for inexpensive slices when drunk. However, living in AM, I wanted a close pizza place for either pick-up or delivery. Alberto's delivered in every sense of the word.

You can customize crusts. I really enjoy the honey wheat, but use discretion here, select this type with sweet-ingredient pizzas.

If you want something that your palate will love, I suggest the chicken pesto - real pesto sauce!

If you like pizza/Alberto's, I would also recommend 2 Amys on Wisconsin. Bon Apetit!

This place has incredible BIG slices with really cool toppings. Last time I went I got one slice with artichokes, mushrooms and spinach and it was very tasty and one slice is enough for one person and it was not like pizza soup, like some other places.  I have not gotten an entire pizza just a slice on the go and I can't wait to go back.
I think it is open super duper late too:)

Spendy price for a small pie. What's worse--it arrived COLD.  I'm sure it's better if you're carrying out.  (The P Street location always has been.)

But hey, since no one else is delivering to Mt. P. these days except Boli's (ick) and Radius (ick ick!) Alberto's is the only game in town.  Ah.. DC.

I'm on a try-all-the-pizzerias-in-a-mile-or-two-radius-of-h ome kick, and Alberto's was the logical next spot to try. I'd initially tried a by-the-slice Hawaiian from the P Street location and saw potential in a chunk that had clearly been sitting under hot lights for a good part of the afternoon, so I thought I'd call in a whole pizza and give it a shot.

My dining partner and I opted for the veggie 'delite' with thin wheat crust. At $17.95 for a 14-inch pie, it wasn't cheap, and I would've expected better. Toppings were doled out in heaping quantities (aside from the cheese, but I don't like my pizza ultra-cheesy anyway, so that scored points for me), and the crust was quite satisfying, with the slightest bit of charring underneath.

My major complaint was the sauce: it was a little heavy on what my tastebuds can only assume is oregano, giving it this sort of "earthy" flavor in alternate bites that I just wasn't digging.

Hence, the three stars. Not sure I'd go back immediately--I think I'd crave some other neighborhood joint, like Sette Osteria, or, most certainly, the Italian Store, first.

    Not Worth It.

I live just around the corner from Alberto's, and thought I'd try them out. The first time we ordered, the pizza was over an hour late, and completely cold by the time it arrived. Temperature aside, the pie itself was quite decent. We decided to try again a week later.

This time, not only did we have to call twice to get the address and phone number straightened out, but they insisted that we had not yet paid--when we had paid in the store. The staff, far from being conducive to a resolution, remained incoherently combative throughout.

The pizzas are rather tasty and well made, but with relatively high prices, aren't much of a value. My feeling is that if you're looking for a quick slice to eat in-store after a night at the bars, this is probably par. But if you live in the neighborhood and are soberly expecting a meal, look elsewhere.

This is a review of Alberto's delivery, not the pizza itself. The pizza is pretty good.

But delivery has been consistently problematic. I live about 1/2 a mile from the restaurant, but delivery last night took two hours. Which is at least twice the "average" 45 minutes-1 hour reported on the menu -- and, more importantly, way too long to wait for pizza. And there was no apology or explanation when I called to check on the status of the pizza.

To add insult to injury, I was charged $1.50 for delivery, even though the menu explicitly says "free delivery."

I also have some gripes about pricing. I ordered half-and-half toppings and got charged the full charge for both toppings. That's their prerogative, but it doesn't quite seem fair. Nor does calculating tax on the basis of the price including the (surprise) delivery charge.

Alberto's is my go-to when 1.) I don't want to make dinner 2.) neither does the fiance and 3.) we may or may not be inebriated (emphasis on the "may"). Things to note: this location is open irregularly.  As in, I live a few blocks from it and walk by it more than I like to admit but I have no clue about their schedule. They are definitely open Thurs-Saturday thanks to the throngs of drunk interns but outside of that is anyone's guess.

Anyways - the goods. The pizza is thin crust and slices are huge. I can eat half of one and save it for lunch the next day. Or who are we kidding - eat it for breakfast. The ham and pineapple is my absolute favorite, and I love the instant gratification of walking in and walking out a minute later with hot pizza.

However don't even bother ordering delivery, from this or the one in Dupont! Nothing but frustration and empty stomachs will result from this action! Every time I've ever ordered pizza it's been horribly late - think an hour plus ON TOP of the hour wait time they initially tell you. And one time I ordered from Dupont and wanted it delivered three blocks away. It took two hours! I could have - should have - walked those blocks and picked it up myself. You've been warned.

Let's make clear that this is 4 stars for what it is mean to be: Drunken, late night pizza.  4 stars also is in comparison to any other pizza by the slice you can get at 4am.

Why would you ever go to Jumbo Slice across the street (the Adams Morgan location) when you can get more options than just plain and pep, a shorter line (and less scary, if I might add), and just overall better pizza for the same price?

I mean I know they don't serve it on 2 plates, but it's just as large, and you get your own pizza box.

Actually, maybe I'll give it 1 star so the line stays short at 3am.  hmmm.

There aren't many good places to order pizza from in DC when you want it delivered. Pizza Hut is unacceptable. 2 Amy's is the best, followed by Red Rocks, but they don't deliver.
Alberto's is expensive but they have a good variety of gourmet toppings and different flavor doughs (i like garlic). You can get deep dish or thin crust.
The other pizza places on 18th Street are just gross - Pizza Mart and the other jumbo slice sources. Don't bother. Alberto's is reliable and I've never had a delivery problem.

Good for late night eats, especially after drinks in Adams Morgan. I would probably not eat this pizza were I sober. I appreciate the fact that they are open after the bars close, and seem patient with dealing with those of us who have consumed a few (or more) drinks while trying to slur out our order.

I am very fond of this pizza, as it is genuine Chicago thin-crust, i.e., midwest-style pizza, which is a thin cracker crust, balanced sauce and cheese, and cut into squares.  Only problems have been mentioned:  the pizza is a pricey for the quantity and delivery takes forever.  I'm not exactly the demographic of drunken jumbo slice eaters, so i won't speak to that, although I did go get a single slice once at lunch and it was definitely not up to par with their whole pies.

I think that several other reviewers were not aware that Alberto's has two "Chicago style" pizzas, thin and stuffed crust.  You need to specify stuffed crust if you want Chicago deep dish style.  It is the best deep dish I have found in DC.  Not quite as good as the best deep dish you can get in Chicago (like Giordanos), but a very close aproximation.  This and 2 Amys (Italian style) are my favorites in DC.

I am still looking for a great NY style place.  So far, the best I know is Manhattan Deli at Archives, but I'm sure there is a better one out there.

Awful place, at least delivery. Pizza came after an hour and a half and was lukewarm at best. On top of that, it's really marginal pizza - not well done at all, pretty crappy. And on top of that, while the base prices for the pizzas seem well-priced, they gouge you on ingredients. I got a medium pizza with tomatoes, olives, mushrooms and pesto and it was $21. Fine if the pizza's good - definitely overpriced if it's this low quality.

This is great pizza. I have been ordering the Chicago thin crust pizza occasionally for years and it's among the best in the city - I'd say top 3. It's 'gourmet' looking enough that you can serve it at a casual gettogether (movie night or superbowl party) at your house. They cut it into small squares so that one can take little pieces of the various pizzas.

The only problem with Alberto's at both locations is endless delivery waits. By the time it arrives, it's 45 minutes to an hour later and you're starving plus the pizza isn't really hot anymore. Order much before you want it.

Ha, I actually used to work here a couple years back (Dupont location). I hated having to deal with most of you drunkards on weekends since Alberto likes to keep the pizzeria open 'til 3am (back in my day). Although you can be pretty  entertaining...

Although most people don't eat where they used to work, I still come here ever so often for a HUGE fresh slice of pizza (quarter of an XL pie = 1 slice) or maybe a chicken garden salad with their homemade balsamic vinaigrette (which I still tell Alberto to bottle to this day).

I've taken to getting Alberto's because I live in Adams Morgan and the pizza from Ducchini's, Baffeto's, etc. just haven't been cutting it.  I find Ducchini's to be really bland.  Also, I liked the fact that Alberto's did thin-crust pizza, and has more interesting, fresh-tasting toppings available (zucchini, basil, canadian bacon, etc.).  I would adore Alberto's and always get my takeout pizza from there if not for a few problems.  For one, they persistently burn the bottoms of their pizzas.  I know some people love the bottoms of their pizzas to be black, and I could stand for a little char but it was really bad, enough so that I had to scrape off a lot of the crust on the bottom, and when you're having a thin-crust pizza you're not left with much crust after that.  For another, their pizza seems quite a bit more expensive than the other pizza places around Adams Morgan.  Yes, it's better but I don't know if it's THAT much better.  Also, they don't have ham, only Canadian bacon.  Yes, they're similar but it's not the same and they charge more for the Canadian bacon than the other meats, so it's a gripe of mine.  Overall, though, I think their pizza is still better than the other close pizza joints, especially for a thin-crust lover, so I will probably keep going back and getting their burnt crust pizza.
