A colleague of mine recommended Alberta's for their Carne Asada fries, so I decided to stop by last week and check them out.

Alberta's is located on the southeast corner of PCH and Figueroa. Don't drive too fast, or else you will miss it. (like I did)

Came in about 8pm last Thursday and it was quiet. One guy was dining in watching some tv. (Place has a huge big screen and a jukebox. Might be a good idea for a small birthday dinner or something) Place is pretty big in my opinion. They also have games for the kids so that they can stay busy while waiting for the food.

Overall good service. Ended up getting free chips and salsa (which were descent) and the carne asada fries were delicious. Tons of cheese, cilantro, good amount of salsa and a good mixture of beans.

I think I'll be back to try a few more of their dishes.  Even more asada fries!

Hello my first 1/5 rating ever on http://yelp.com

My overall experience and food here was terrible.  How it has an average 4/5 rating, I do not know.  I guess because people who've never had Carne Asada fries before find this place interesting and wonderful, but Ive had better (Taco Del Rio Carne Asada Fries).  As you can see from most of the previous posts, people are raving about the Carne Asada fries, so if you do plan to go, this might be their only best dish.  Portions are big, but you get what you pay for.  Lots of cheap quality food.

First off, the place looks really tacky, all tables were scratched up and benches had writing all over.   The cashier taking my order walked away during mid sentence and started helping out other customers and finally just left the kitchen.  This was awfully rude.  Another lady came to the cash register and asked me again what I had wanted.

There is endless chips and salsa.  The salsa lacked fresh tomatoes and sits there uncovered throughout the day.

DO NOT get anything with chicken in it here.  The chicken was inedible and tasted like spoiled meat.  We had the carne asada fries since all the yelp reviews were raving about it.  This was the ONLY thing somewhat edible.  The meat was dry and was just a mess of ingredients.

I was hoping their live entertainment with karaoke nights would make this place slightly more attractive.  I was wrong.  During mid meal, they blared out a sound without any introduction or warning.  Kids ran around the stage uncontrollably.  It was an awful experience, and will never come here again.

I tried the carne asada fries (my first time ever), and they were uhhhmayyzing! Can't believe I haven't tried this stuff before!

Portions were huge. I had half of my food, even though I'm usually able to devour anything and everything on my plate, before I felt like barfing. Turns into a gooey blobby mess of food. It's so good, though. *drool*

I'm unsure about service. Lady was quick, nice, and helpful before she gave me the food and slammed the slidey thingy in my face mid-sentence. Hehe. Oh yeah, I went through the drive-thru.

I'd go back and try their carne-asada nachos next time. With extra extra jalapenos. Mmm!

None of that green "salsa" crap, though. No need!

    Prologue:
After being spoiled with Carne Asada Fries by going to school in the OC, I needed to find a place locally to satisfy my cravings every now and then. One of my old co-workers mentioned Alberta's and the rest has been history.

    Food:
    Carne Asada Fries

    Critique:
As I mentioned, there are tons of places in the OC that cater to college students and their late night Mexican food cravings. However, I honestly feel that Alberta's outdoes them all. They give you a very generous portion of fries, carne asada, and toppings. Let's be real, most Carne Asada Fries are going to be very similar, but the flavor and portions of Alberta's always has me coming back. You MUST, MUST also ask for their green salsa, which makes the whole dish that much more orgasmic.

    Conclusion:
Talking more about their Carne Asada Fries would seriously just be a waste of my time. Go try them yourself and tell me they aren't amazing.

This is my all time favorite late night grub station when I'm in tue Wilmington area beside the local taco truck (but that's a beast of another nature)... UnLike Ho Jo's the just don't leave the light on for you, they will literally turn the lights on for you!! See after a certain time (which is unknown) they lick the doors and shut down the place but as soon as you roll in the parking lot and walk up to the front doors it's like magic. The lights shoot on, the doors unlock and their jukebox which plays all the Spanish jams blares on and it's like the old candy machine trick where if it gets stuck just give it a nudge and it all works out. That's the feeling you get when you walk Into Albertas late at night, the feeling that they work just for you. It's awesome.

Would I come back? In a heart beat
Would I recommend the food? Only if you like traditional food and have an iron gullet
Would I sing karaoke? Damn right I would!

Carne Asada Nachos - had a good mound of carne meat piled over the nachos and plentiful scoops of guacamole, sour cream, and cheese.

3 rolled tacos with guacamole - flavorful, cooked perfectly so it's chewy in the middle and crisp on the outside.  Generous portions of guacamole and cheese.  i'm glad that the economic crisis has not caused them to be stingy on the best part of the meal...the toppings.

Service is quicker through the drive-thru, but going inside allows you to fill up your plastic baggie with as much carrots & jalapenos as your heart desires.

The setting is definitely divey and since the bathroom is beside the entrance, the "public restroom" smell hits you in the face as you walk towards the register.  Give it a few minutes and your olfactory senses will become immune to it long enough to order your food and take it to enjoy in the privacy of your own home.

Just came back to my hotel from this place.  The burrito I had was really really good.  I think the best I've had on my trips to LA.  I'm tempted to give this place 5 stars.  It was a chilly relleno burrito, by the way.

I ate there and there's a little bar with chips and some sauces.  The red sauce was decent.  The green OK.  The "brown" sauce was umm... unique.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would love to go back and try more items off the menu.

Ever been to a taco shop with karaoke? Once you get over that bizzare notion, if you're around on a weekend night, step right in. (I believe that they still do this?) OK, clearly this place used to be an old Burger King. I love the fact that they took most of the existing structure and made it work. They have nice carrots and help yourself chips and salsa. But the real appeal of this place comes down to two words:

    Super Nachos.

If you get them to eat in, it seems like they came out on a giant plate topped with cheese, carne asada, guac, sour cream, tomatos and more cheese. Used to be $5. Now closer to $7, but still a great value. Two people can make it dinner. Now we mostly get them in the drive thru. Also good with carnitas.

Super easy to get to, pretty much walking distance from the 110. Like other reviewers, I too, wind up here much too often late night after doing something else. I hope that they don't get mad that I never respect them enough to make them the normal "destination" dinner! :)

First time visiting this joint, always heard about it with my friends but never did really cross my mind in visiting the location till I guess we had no were else to go on a Friday night.

Overall great family place for entertainment, bucket of beers are pretty cheap, plus karaoke at night makes it a lot more fun. I guess if you have nothing else to do on a Friday night, this place would be a good option.

I give it three stars since its pretty small place and the location is not.that great. Probably they can remodel a bit and hire a few more waitresses.

A good 3.5 stars! Friendly service and they're eager to get your order right. We placed our order through the drive-thru; Carne Asada Fries, 2 Fish Tacos and 2 Shrimp Tacos. It was a bit of a wait, about 10 mins from ordering to waiting at the window, but did not disappoint.

Tacos are HUGE. Holding the bag alone, I thought they had given us burritos. Fish tacos have two, huge battered fish pieces- makes it impossible to eat like a taco. The shrimp tacos had shrimp in every bite!

Carne Asada fries weren't as good as Albertaco's for me, but definitely hit the spot! I just wish the sour cream was placed over the carne asada instead of directly on the fries. It was a little soggier than I would like to inhale, but I got it done!

I must be blind cuz all my life I thought it was called Alberto's bahaha. Carne asada fries/nachos= my definition of this place. everything else= womp. 3 stars only for nachos. Cauz the rude lady that dont know how to take orders or fill em at the window (middle aged mexican lady, swear she know everything) is the worst fast food window worker ever in the history of life! Always fuckin up our order and never can get our order right when we HAVE TO YELL IT OUT at the speaker.  but the carneasada nacho& fries are that bomb to put up with her shitty service. The day: Monday, August Whatever.
The Setting: Starving and don't feel like cooking.

Now, my mother- who's from the other side of the border is very picky and finicky about her Mexican food (especially tacos). So, imagine my surprise, when she bit into her hard shelled beef taco, stiffled a smile, and said, "Hemos encontrado nuestro lugar."

Let looks not deceive you! It's no beauty pageant contestant on the outside or inside- but the taste of the food is totally amazing.

I have been going to this place for years.  When I moved to orange county for 3.5 years, I would try to find a carne asada fries (aka. super fries) substitute but nothing would ever compare, nothing.  All the places from San Diego to Fountain Valley got nothin' on Wi-mas (street code for the city of Wilmington) Alberta's Carne Asada Fries.  I  hate to admit but I might have only moved back to this area because of this food dish. Guacamole, thick slabs of carne asada, fries, and cheese.  By far the best Carne Asada Fries I have ever had.  I dare you to find another place that has better.

I recommend half order unless you skipped lunch and are starving out of your mind, then you should go with full order.  Place is pretty kick back too if you go on weekends late at night and have never experienced karaoke in Spanish.  Who knows, you might get loaded up on carne asada fries and beers and end up singing loud karaoke in Spanish even though you took Japanese in high school.

An actual sitdown Alberto's clone, complete with your food served, no drive-thru, and they take credit card. They gotta have the beefiest carne asada burrito of the Alberto's clones. The last time I was there, it was fat and greasy, and I couldnt eat it with my hands. It was gushing guacamole on every bite. And the beef juice kept the burrito nice and juicy. Good and deadly.

The carne asada nachos and 3 rolleds are can't misses. They've even got campechanas and seafood plates which is pretty cool. I don't think it's 24 hours, but they've got the TV on with spanish talk shows on all day and karaoke at night. Total party spot.

I just got introduced to this place recently by my boyfriend.  And let me tell you it is SO GOOD!  This place is has authentic Mexican food as well as the usual American cheeseburgers and french fries.  I love tacos so my favorite thing there is the carne asada taco but really everything there is yummy.  They have this interesting combination called carne asada fries which is french fries topped with carne asada, beans, tomatos, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole.  That is very good as well.

Also, if you like fountain soda, there's is SO good too.  All I have is praises for this place!  You won't be disappointed!!

And if you are in the mood for karaoke, they have that too.

Have literally driven by this place for about 15 years and never once had the urge to try the food, that was until i heard they had something called Carne Asada Fries. So one saturday after a few too many beers got the hunger and decided to have the wife go here and pick some up. My brother n law was over as well and he ordered some as well, and man were we shocked!!! These fries were amazing and for only about 7 bucks!!! That is a great late night snack I've read where people hit this place up as late as 2 in the morning., so you know they are open late, I still have never been inside this place as I use the drive through. But the wife says that it resembles a club scene. So if you go there, be ready to sing Karaoke!!!!

Food is decent but I sometimes wonder about the cleanliness of this place.

I remember when the lady, I assume she was the owner, was frying something up on their griddle while holding her infant child.  I don't know, something just didn't seem right about that.

I only go here if my wife wants to.  I'd rather go to Taco Sinaloa.

Where do I begin? This might just be my favorite Mexican restaurant to date. The portions are big and freshly cooked. There are huge varieties of selections. The owner's a nice lady. I love their free salsa and chips. I love the classic, mom "n" pops feel of the place... very laid back. Closes late, drive thru available. The karaoke is also a great complement to the restaurant. Outstanding raw tastes, not corporate-like or "Americanized". On top of all that, the prices are cheap!

This place really fits me. I don't think I can ask for anything better.

Alberta's carne asada nachos are so damn hood and good,
it would make Obama say "Si Se Cuerva!"...
    shit's hilarious,
but the food here's no laughing matter..
their fresh chips are so oily in a good way,
I don't give a damn if it makes me even fatter,
    so cut the chatter.
    Alberta's is awesome as hell,
everytime I come here I love the smell of Latin cooking,
they even got Karaoke nights that got even Asians lookin',
checkin' to see who in the blue hell's singing...
I mean damn, even their tacos and ceviche's tasty...
but like I said, their carne asada nachos here are the BEST in town,
    shit got me going crazy!
    loco,
    Aye Caramba!
and an "s"  to the end of that and you got my last name and numba!
    I mean "number",
    but not really,
go back to the counter and get me some extra Chile limon lime..
    I think next time,
I'll try the Carne Asada Fries that Soleil D. says...
but I would get Spanish rice and some fresh chips on the side instead of pico di gallo and frejoles.

    ***UPDATE***
Check out THE BEST...seriously THE BEST DAMN CARNE ASADA NACHOS I've EVER TASTED and no other place has topped Alberta's:

Carne asada fries are the best here! Everyone I know goes out of their way to make the drive to Wilmington just for this dish. And it's cheap, oh and fast, they have a drive thru.

Not bad at all but an almost exclusively Latino crowd on Karaoke nights. Chili Releno plate was nice and spicy and the Fish Tacos were crunchy & well made. The rice & beans sides were nothing to write home about though. One of "hole in the wall" type of Mexican restaurants with a twist. We will return if we are every down here again.

the place isn't that fancy, i still have the creeps that some brawling will come up whenever we go here. but this is where you can eat with just your pajamas :) and they're open til 2 am!

the food is delish! thay also have a big serving (at least for me). Real Mexican home cooking.

    a must try:
    1) carne asada fries with EVERYTHING on it. Good for 2 -3 people, or just one if you're REALLY hungry.
    2) carne asada buritto (go for the regular one, i didn't like the shredded version, unless you love corned beef texture)
    3) carne asada tacos (they come in big and small sizes)
    4) fish tacos

good thing about this place is that they have a drive-thru. Or you can just come in for dine-in and have your free chips and salsa.

The carne asada fries are a must get!!! Topped with all the goods and condiments a Mexican restaurant can offer and opened late! This item is filling for two people.
