San Jose, CA
Love the Carne Asada Fries and the California Burrito. This place looks beat down and dirty but the food is delish. The lines for drive-thru is usually long but worth the wait. It is on the pricy side but i think it's fine. I try to go here every time im in SoCal

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place after living in San Marcos for how many years. Albertacos has been around forever.
I can't say that they have exceptional food. They're pretty much your basic San Diego type Mexican eatery. The food isn't the greatest, but at the same time, it's by far one of the worst.
I think one of my main gripes has to do with their California Burritos, which is what I usually order. The carne asada meat seems to be really lacking. They fill it up with all the other ingredients leaving you with very little meat left. Kind of a disappointment. The taste though is rather good but you kind of feel cheated in a way. -

Nothing special. Overpriced for the quantity. A good place if your drunk. Which 99% of the regulars are to even notice the shitty food.
You obviously don't know Mexican food if you love this place. -

Escondido, San Diego, CA
Five star simply because this is THEE best taco shop in north county. Open 24 hours which makes it the late night go-to spot. Their carne asada burritos are the staple. While the rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese may sound simple, this is the finishing touch to a great (affordable) meal.

It's alright mexican food. I wouldn't say the best I've had in North County but it definitely fills the craving. They have extremely large portions for the price. I ordered a half order of carne asada fries and it was still an entire container full of goodness.

SoCal's so lucky. They have an Albertacos.
I'm jealous. Insert "You don't realize what you have until it's gone quote" here. -

This place is alright for a 24 hour Taco shop. It has changed significantly throughout the years. The place is definitely cleaner. The shop got an upgrade- different tables, chairs, and a paint job.
I normally order Carne Asada fries or Polli Asado fries. The portion size is decent. You will get your money's worth. The meat/chicken has always been cooked well.
Open 24 hours. Clean place. Decent prices. In comparison to other taco shops in the area (there's many), Albertacos deserves 4 stars! -

I have been coming to this San Marcos location since 2002. Albertacos is not a 3-star Mexican restaurant but it is a 3-star taco shop. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are very quick with their service and the portion size is bigger than most places I have been to. To top it off their food is inexpensive.
I would go out of my way to get my pollo asado fries from Albertacos. They make it the way I like it. I prefer thin french fries over the humongous soggy ones. They also have the best breakfast burrito. It is best in taste and in portion size. I can totally cut the burrito in half- eat one for breakfast and the other for lunch.
The shop is always clean. The guys behind the counter and the cooks have always been nice and patient. -

Escondido, CA
Ordered the carne asada fries here - good, but nothing to write home about. I had to pour two entire hot sauces on the top of this to add some flavor. Carne asada was good, guacamole was bland, not enough cheese, and WAY too much sour cream. Loved that the fries were skinny - but some were not cooked enough. Needless to say, I finished the entire plate (a sign that their portions are not that big) but I probably will not go back. Too many mexican options in North County to settle for a mediocre experience. Alberto's off of Escondido Blvd. still reigns as my favorite in North County!

Carne Asada Fries is a staple for San Diego natives however most people outside the land of constant 70-degree-come-sunshine-all-the-time don't know about this phenomenon. In essence, Carne Asada Fries is utopia in a Styrofoam package. A unique blend of authentic carne asada, cheese, guac, sour cream, and french fries make this dish sought after by Shamu himself!
Now I know some San Diegans would disagree with me and say Albertacos is 'alright'. That's ok. The debate as to where to get the best Carne Asada Fries will be ongoing. I may have given this place 4/5 stars, however I decided to give it that extra notch because of it's Northern San Diego location.
You just can't go wrong with the Carne Asada Fries here. Oh by the way, don't order the Carne Asada nachos, that would be faux pas. :) -

San Marcos, CA
Ideally located only blocks from Palomar College and CSUSM as well as my very own home.
Fairly priced, can't complain about the food, and open all the time. It's no where near the best Mexican food in San Diego, but as far as the 24-hour taco shop goes, it ranks well with me. I like that I can walk inside rather than sit in my car at a drive thru window. It gets to be a pretty popular place around two in the morning most Saturday nights. -

Imagine my surprise when I came across ANOTHER Albertaco's up in the San Marcos area! Now I can indulge my breakfast burrito addiction when I'm making runs to Babies R Us! Score!
Well. The food is pretty much the same as the College location... pretty crappy and greasy, but yummy, just the same. The breakfast burritos have everything in them... cheese, eggs, bacon, ham, fries... yum. The hot sauce isn't special, but it's hot, so I guess it serves its purpose.
The problem (BIG) is that the drive thru line takes FOREVER. Pre-kids I probably wouldn't have noticed, but now it's a major issue. My 8 month old twins almost always start crying & screaming with the car stops moving, as many babies do, so drive thrus are a bit of a problem. I ended up having to listen to my screaming kids for...umm...at least 5 minutes. Probably closer to 10 minutes. I seriously wanted to cry along with them by the time I got my food! This alone makes me not ever want to go back if I've got the kids in the car, which is pretty much every time I am in my car these days. Sucks. -

Good beef tacos, rolled tacos, Queso's, nachos, bean and cheese logs and hot sauce, thats about it.
Chicken is gross with viens and skin, carne is fatty, service is slow and the tv you are forced to watch is always on some lame mexican soap opera even when 95% of the people who go there are gringos. -

I think Albertacos - San Marcos Blvd. is "ok" sometimes their food is great and others not so great.
In fact I just finished eating a chicken burrito from there and it had some hard things in it, almost like pieces of bone maybe? I don't know but it grossed me out and thew the rest away.
I think it almost depends on who is cooking that day. -

San Diego, CA
The usual taco stand. Not great, but not bad. The tacos are full of greasy goodness and the Carne Asada fries are really good. The down side to eating here is once you are done you think to yourself that you really should start a diet tomorrow. The upside is that it is 24-hours, so no matter when you need fourth meal they are open. Also, the salsa verde is good here.

Stay far away from this place!!! I went there 10-15 times and everytime I go there my food is made very differently. The cashier also rips everyone off. I ordered two quesidilas at $3.99 each and was charged $11.69. The cashier puts in the price of the order and then very quickly puts in other prices. If you question him, he gets a big attitude and pretends to not know any english. I watched him ring up other orders while waiting for my food and he over charged the other customers as well. He always types in $.75 and $1.50 charges to almost every order, and if you pay with credit card, he puts another $.75 charge without even asking! (which is against the law in America)

California burritos are awesome here at 2:30 in the morning. It's just a brisk bike ride away from CSUSM. I suggest carne asada California burritos, it comes with fries inside!

I was raised on Mexican food, and this has made me a bit of a snob in finding good restaurants, but every now and then you find one that cooks just like home.
This is not one of them. -
