A few minutes walk to downtown Placerville, this B&B is an experience that will surprise and delight you. It has everything you would expect, plus much more. Historical property, themed guestrooms, charming turn-of-he-century decor and flavor, and a breakfast to die for.
I was expecting the standard yogurt and fruit continental style breakfast, but instead was treated to freshly made-that-morning scones, apple crunch "pan"cake (soft moist tart style baked in the oven) PLUS the coffee, fruit, juice, etc. all served in heartwarming Victorian dining room with linens and china. Rita and Stephanie made us feel at home immediately, and couldn't have been more accommodating. You will love it. A definite must for a stay in the charming gold rush area. -

We *love* the Shafsky House and go out of our way to stay here whenever we're in the area. The hosts are the best combination of professional and friendly, the rooms are comfortable and interesting and the location is very convenient to downtown Placerville. The only small downside is that you are on a fairly busy road so there tends to be some traffic noise in the evening and morning. And Rita's food is always delicious! Highly recommended.

Rita & Stephanie innkeepers are the Best!
Very friendly and accommodating. The B & B is convenient to town, short walking distance over a footbridge. A lot of nice restaurants a short walk from the foot of the bridge. Rita made a great suggestion for each of the three nights we were there. We were greeted with bottle red Wine from Boeger Winery, very nice touch. Especially since we don't care for white wine. Found time to visit Boeger and bought several more bottles of the Barbera wine.
Room and bathroom were very clean, the sheets were as soft as silk. The bed was very comfortable. I saw the earplugs next to the bed that people have talked about, but we didn't need them in the Vineyard Room. Loved the decor of the house.
Rita outdoes herself preparing breakfast. Cup of mixed fresh fruit for starters. Scones or apple baked bread follows. Special baked apple pancakes or eggs Benedict garnished beautifully. Could be in a magazine and are delicious. The French toast made with a croissant was delicious.
Lilly, the Miniature Dachshund, is as cute as a button as she tries to be the guard dog. -

I have never been to a more comfortable inn!
The Shafsky House is restored and decorated perfectly. It is located in a neighborhood, just a stroll away from the historic downtown.
The Innkeeper prepares delicious, fresh breakfasts. And often homemade cookies in the afternoon!
I often run into repeat guests, who also rave about the Inn. I have stayed there many times and love it!
The Shafsy House is such a great alternative to a hotel. Personal service, breakfast and large, comfortable rooms make it a bargain compared to any cookie-cutter hotel.
Can't wait to visit again! -

Yep, that's right, I'm a fan. Correction, I'm a FAN. : )
Where to start?
The house is beautiful, historic, and comfortable. The beds are HEAVENLY. The rooms are well-appointed with whatever amanities you would need.
Breakfast is always delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Fresh fruits, great coffee, blueberry pancakes last time we were there, oooh, I wish I were there NOW!!!
Great location--- walking distance to many fun shops downtown Placerville and not far from Apple Hill.
The innkkeepers have become good friends to us over the years and our several visits. Also, we love this place so much that we gave gift certificates to our bridal party as a thank you gift for their participation in our wedding.
You truly feel like you've gone to visit with friends when you stay at Shafsky House. -

If you are looking for lodging in the Placerville area, check out the Shafky House. It's a great alternative to the chain hotels / motels in the area. Check out their website - it's a wonderful place to stay.
The Shafsky is located just blocks away from main street Placerville, so you can walk to and from the sightseeing, shopping, and dining you came to the area for. If you leaf through the guest book, you find names of people who have returned multiple times - which says a lot for a place, if you ask me.
Owners Rita and Stephanie do a wonderful job making you feel at home. The decor has period memorabilia as decorations, each room with its own theme. Each of the three rooms has a nice big comfortable bed, bathroom, and air conditioner. There's a sitting room with stereo and TV for guest use, along with a small library of books of all types.
The biggest selling point is the food you will be treated to. Rita is a tremendous chef! I was told that the Shafsky house has won many awards for its food, and I believe it. It's easy to tell that everything she served - from the juice to the main breakfast dishes - is carefully crafted by her, many things from scratch. You can't sleep through breakfast here - your eyes will be wide open with glee by the time you leave the table.
I have just two tiny niggles. One is the fact that the Shafksky is located on a rather busy street corner. This is no major concern, as traffic settles down at night, so your sleep shouldn't be disturbed. If it is, Rita and Steph have thoughtfully provided earplugs.
The other immature gripe I have is that finding parking can be a bit tough at times - but again, they have thought of this and have a four-car parking area near the house. Limited street parking is available. -

The Shafsky house is so adorable and cozy. When you stay there, you feel like you are staying with family. :) Rita and Stephanie (the innkeepers) are there to advise of the touristy area, history, and meals you but only if you want the advice. Otherwise, you never even see them. It is perfectly located to Placerville and all it has to offer within walking distance. We were totally impressed with the room itself. They have thought of everything to make you feel relaxed...robes, slipper socks, remote controlled climate, chocolates, q-tips, REAL toilet paper as opposed to that paper you find in other hotels, environmentally friendly bath products and don't get me started on the bed!!!!!! It is like sleeping on a cloud! You melt into the super soft mattress and when you touch the sheets, it is like even better than velvet. I had never experienced sheets this soft. And the best part is that they sell them there!
This is a MUST B&B if you are planning a trip to the gold country!
