Just like most city folks, our work lives are busy and so often even though we want to eat healthy, yummy local produce we find ourselves too tired at the end of the day to want to go out grocery shopping during the week. Herein enters the marvel of urban delivery of fabulous organic farm fresh produce.
What would we do without Albert & Eve?! Everything about them makes a perfect fruit & veggie delivery service. Here are my favorite things about them.
You can personalize your deliveries so you can get more of what you like and none of the items you don't.
The customer service is superb. Jennie is super sweet and so great at answering questions and offering suggestions on the other extra goodies they also offer as well (honey, goat cheese, chocolate, coffee, eggs).
The produce is always varied, abundantly healthy and the quantities are totally generous. The head of lettuce are double what are usually in the grocery shops. All in all I think the pricing is even less expensive that the farmer's market. As well, we had tried a few other CSAs in the past and in the end our enthusiasm faded as the quality wasn't so great, and the quantities were on the skimpy side.
They use minimal packaging to keep the eco-friendly thread going on, and they are great about always leaving the package where you request it to be dropped off, should you be away at work.
If you're in the market for a CSA delivery, do yourself a favor and just go for their service. You'd be surprised how much better life is with more organic fruits and veggies in it. And you don't even have to go to gather it up from a farmer's market or the grocery store! Yay for A&E! -

Love these guys!
Best home delivery produces I've used. And I've tried a few.
The produce is always fresh, and lasts long enough to use it. You get a ton of food compared to the price you pay. Great delivery people too. Must try if you haven't! -

I tried several CSAs after moving to SF and Albert & Eve is by far the best I could find; I recommend trying them to everyone I know!
The people who run the program are really nice and I believe they are doing it with the best intentions -- connecting people to farms near them to create a fresh, wholesome food chain beneficial to both farmer and eater, like Community Supported Agriculture was meant to be, while making it about as convenient as possible for city-dwelling foodies. With most CSAs, you sign up to receive a box every week and get whatever produce they have available. Usually they only provide the service in high season, when markets are already overflowing with fresh produce, or during low season you get the same vegetables over and over, with no choice in the matter. Also, if you want less of a commitment you aren't able to access the service at all.
Enter Albert & Eve: you can try a delivery with no commitment at all, or choose to set up every other week orders so you don't end up with a refrigerator full of rotting rutabagas. If you ever need to "pause" your deliveries (whether you're out of town or just on a weird frozen-pizza binge) or switch the schedule around, it's easy to do by emailing them. And the best part, they have a list of 12 fruits and vegetables that switches every week year-round, and in just a few minutes in their online system you can choose your favorites and never have to receive what you don't want. Choose 6, 9, or all 12 varieties depending on your box size.
You live with people who don't believe in delivery, you say? I know how that goes.. but you can get your vegetables brought to your workplace, too! And these are pleasant farm people that will bring a smile to your face, not the guy who looks like he's going to kill you in your sleep if you order one more fried rice when it's raining out (he does know exactly where you live).
You think you'll just go to the farmer's market down the street? That's a great idea, except, you won't. I don't think anyone goes to buy fresh produce as much as we should, so supplement when you can make it there with your reusable bags and everything is great, with a delivery that will bring you good food even on days when you realized you were wearing two different shoes once you got to work. True story. Anyway, I do go to farmer's markets in between deliveries, but it's pretty hard to find organic and it does take up time that I could be .. matching my shoes.
You aren't sure it'll save you any money over a grocery store? You're just like me! Always wanting a thorough economic analysis before making a decision. The truth is, I've tried to figure it out and I don't know whether it would cost more or less to buy the same stuff. But, this is one situation in which it just doesn't matter. You save a lot of hassle by avoiding the store, you gain the peace of mind that everything you're eating is local and organic and giving money to the people who grew it, and getting vegetables that don't all look exactly the same like they came out of a machine instead of the dirt will make you feel damn good. Maybe you can impress your friends with some sweet purple carrots or your knowledge of what an actual broccoli plant looks like, and you'll know it was worth it.
I have had imperfect deliveries. I have had small portions of my favorite foods. I have had billing mistakes. I've also had really friendly interactions, extra greens included for the bunnies I foster parent, special treats to try tucked into my bag, and prompt and courteous corrections of any errors I point out. These peoples' intentions are genuine and good and that alone will make it a great experience for you.
What the heck are you still doing reading my review? Go order your bag now!!! Try it once with an open mind and tell me if I'm wrong. -

I have to suspend our Albert & Eve delivery for a while but I wanted to make sure to give them a good word and hopefully get them some replacement business. Our family has been receiving home deliveries in San Francisco from A&E for over a year and it has always been top-notch. I can't understand the reviewers who say they got veggies that were not fresh. I can tell you the produce we received in our deliveries was always "just-picked" fresh, organic and healthful. It felt great always having organic fruit on hand for the kids and locally grown veggies for myself and my husband. (Ok, so the kids won't eat chard but I love it!) The deliveries always arrive right on schedule and had a good mix of items.

I am so happy I found them! We get the box of 9 items (6 veggies, 3 fruits) every week, since we make a lot of raw juices. Wow. The quality of the produce is excellent, everything is fresh and so delicious. We have yet to be disappointed in a delivery.
Which, they delivery man comes every Wednesday at the same time, right on schedule. He's always super polite.
If you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables in your diet, sign up. You won't regret it. -

I had a really good feeling about this company, since I read a lot of good reviews, and it looked fantastic on the website.
Since there are a lot of other organic produce delivery companies out there, I wanted to try it once before committing to regular delivery. So I went ahead and opted to have it delivered one time only. When my first fruit delivery arrived, I was very pleased at the quality and the variety of fruits I got. I will probably continue with this company.
There was some confusing regarding the frequency of delivery (due to my mistake), and it was tricky to reach them via phone because the phone will be answered by a machine saying that they cannot receive calls right now. I found out later that they are very quick with email, and if you leave a voice message, they will call you right back. So if you want to contact them, EMAIL or leave a voice message. -

I was over charged on my pal pay. When I started thought I would get a weekly delivery. But, the produce was not that good, so on some weeks I did not order and nothing came, but I was being secretly charged on pal pay without my knowledge. I did not get any notices from pay pal that I needed to pay. If they had bothered to send a fund request, this problem would have been nipped in bud, but complete airhead apathy appears to be going on at this so called business.
When I logged into my pay pal for another matter I noticed, they had charged me for weeks in which I had not ordered. When I cancelled those orders. I got a demand for payment from them. They thought I would pay for weeks in which nothing was delivered. There was one week in which I did not pay and called and email them asking to pay and they blew me off. They figured they would just keep charging me weekly and I would not noticed. They are too lazy to attend to the basic workings of the payment system.
I wrote them an email to complain about this and they blew me off again, not even bothering to reply. I know there was one week, I should have paid for, and another week in which they sent me stuff, I had not picked out. I called and spoke with Albert in person to say, I did not want weekly delivery, but he forgot to tell Eve (if Eve even exists). I was still being charged for weekly delivery even after speaking on the phone in person to Albert himself.
The delivery was once left out on the street because the delivery guy was too lazy to unlock the gate and put the bag inside. It is possible therefore that all the other times the items had been stolen. I still don't have the key for my gate back and I had to go and change the padlock at once.
Moreover in terms of quality the apples they sent were not ripe. I was disappointed with the fruits in general. You can buy better stuff at the produce market for what they are charging. The mushrooms came in just the same cello wrap bag that I could get at any grocery store. Some of the vegetables were good but not excellent and often the amounts sent were small.
Anyone could set up this business. They produce is not particularly special. I could do this service happen myself by going to Safeway and getting the same items and dropping them off at people's houses. But, at least I would stay on top of the billing and payment. Such negligence is inexcusable.Comment from Jennie C. of Albert & Eve Organics Co. 3/1/2012

Just got my first CSA box today from Albert & Eve and I couldn't be any happier with what I got. You get to customize each delivery and I'm set up for bi-weekly. I love to cook and wanted to cook with more veggie variety. Since I have a family of 5, I got to choose 2 veggies, 2 fruits, and 2 other items. I received more than I asked for which was a pleasant surprise.
I can't wait to see what will come in my delivery in two weeks! -

I can't wait for Wednesday in order to eat my new delivery of organic produce. Today I already ate all the delivered white corn, most of the carrots, and half the strawberries and raspberries. It's amazing that this is getting me to eat lots of vegetables. It's made a healthy difference in my life!

We ordered their weekly box and were looking forward to supporting organic, local farmers (this is what they promote as well). When the box arrived we were disappointed.....the carrots were soft & flexible, the garlic was packaged in plastic netting with glossy paper label !! saying produced by Christopher garlic in Gilroy but I turn over the label and it says "product of Argentina"!!! What the.?!%$ The citrus was good though.
Some of the produce seemed tired/old and that garlic wasn't from anything resembling a small, local farms unless Argentina is local now. I'm going direct to the farmers market weekly and will try another of the many, many community based growers.
I was really bummed that this was such a disappointment and you'd think they would have made the first box a good one. -

Before I delve into the reasons why I'm a fan, I want explain how they work.
What you do is you go to their website and pick a box assortment. This could be All vegetables only, All fruits Only, or a mixture.
Depending on the plan you select, you can pick what produce you'd like to get as opposed to other factions that have a predetermined list of produce that everyone is stuck with. They will usually give you 4 selections and you are allowed to pick 2 or 3 from the 4. They will also ask you to list any produce you'd rather not to receive at all times (say things you are allergic to or just plain dislike). Delivery plans offered are weekly, biweekly, and one-time orders.
Aside form being 100% organic, they are cheaper than Farm Fresh to you. They also give you recipes in case you have never cooked with an ingredient before or want more ideas on how you could utilize them. As to their customer service, I've corresponded with Brandon via phone and e-mail twice and found him delightful and very helpful.
They deliver for free and are always courteous if you are not home to receive your delivery (they'll give you a call). I highly recommend them! :) -

I can't say enough good things about Albert & Eve's. Our family has been using their service for over a year. We receive the deluxe box which feeds my family of six. I love receiving the organic, in season, fruits and vegetables right at my front door every week! The fruit and vegetables come from many local CA farms and each week the delivery comes with a newsletter highlighting the farms the produce came from as well as the health benefits of the various fruit and veggies. Yummy recipes are also included in the newsletter.
Some added benefits include, customization options. About 5 days before delivery by e-mail or on the website you can pick from a list of items available. I love this because it allows me to plan out the rest of my groceries for the week. Mistakes happen. Albert & Eve's are more than generous if an error occurs in your order or something was not up to your standards (they welcome and encourage feedback especially if you prefer one farm over another). They have just added an Artisanal organic product line! Now each week you can add to your regular produce box from a list of items which may include fair trade coffee, olive oils, jams, Brigette's Naturally Alive Snacks and more. Did I mention that the delivery is FREE?! The delivery people always greet you with a big smile. Love it! -

Albert and Eve Organics do a pretty good job with quality control. Their fruits and vegetables taste really good but the portion might be a little small for some people. I honestly think the deal is pretty sweet when you get one box of food for free for the first order if you buy 4 boxes. that comes out about 23 dollars a box which is a reasonable price considered that your food is delivered and all organic.
My only suggestion is that you should always double check your box to see if you get everything. My first box was missing radishes and my strawberries where replaced with oranges equal minus one STAR. Strawberries was one of the things I was looking forward getting because I just love them! My herbs were also replaced with leeks but that was fine because leeks are pretty big compare to a bundle of herbs. I called them about the issue and they said they well compensate for the lost item and the missing strawberries for the next box. I'm pretty satisfied with their food and services. I would love to support them as much as I can and I hope they can afford to give a bigger portion instead of pretty boxes with unnecessary logo stickers. -

Received my first box today, and I am pretty pleased. I received a lot more of each fruit and veggie item than I expected. I did a one-time purchase and will order more for next week. I am really glad I am not locked down to a one year commitment with this company since I travel a lot.
The majority of the produce looked really fresh. In my box of strawberries there were several rotten ones though. That makes me wonder for how long they sit in boxes before they are delivered...
Another tiny minus: I requested to have my bag put in the front porch corner hidden from view, which they didn't do. They put it right in front of the door. -

First time I used them I was today the 13th of Aug 2009, and I oredered online the second option consisting of 3 veggies and 3 fruits for 28 bucks. You can't beat that with a stick. My food arrived 1151am that day 5 hrs after I made the order online. The food is very fresh and pure. It's a really good investment for me for someone who believes in eating fresh meals.
If you live in a big household this would be pretty cool to get as well.
It's really legit and I don't brag about to many things!!! -

I have tried a few other CSA's in the Bay Area and these guys are head-and-shoulders above! The price simply cannot be beat and they are super responsive to special requests. Considering that they have a no-commitment policy if you have been thinking about trying a CSA, look no further than Albert & Eve.

We've been receiving A&E's deluxe mixture for a few months now and I can tell you that it has revolutionized our eating habits. The two of us purchase for 5 - 6 people and have plenty for juicing every day, plus fresh fruit for eating and veggies for the rest of the week. It's a fabulous deal and everything is super fresh and delicious! Plus the free delivery!! You're supporting local organic agriculture, and a great group who run this. Highly recommended!

Produce and vegetables were sub-par. Some deliveries were good others not so good. We received some deliveries with vegetables and fruits that I would have never brought home if I saw them first. I felt that I gave them a fair go and when it came time to cancel, they charge for an additional delivery, but do not deliver any actual food (according to terms). This is a bad business practice and really says a lot about the company, someone cancels because they are not happy with the product, but hey lets just charge you for an additional delivery, not cool. In my opinion, look else where.

I heart Albert and Eve. They seriously have the best customer service and are a great value for the amount of food you get. I'm set up on recurring billing to receive weekly deliveries. I go online and choose what items I want ahead of time or they will just pick for you. The selection and variety is great from week to week. I had problems getting a key made to my gate for them to use and my first time doing business with them was a mess because no one was at my apartment to get the delivery like I thought they'd be, they tried to deliver it again when I thought my roommate was going to be home, then ended up bringing it to my work when no one answered again, which of course they did not have to do. I've been very happy with their service and would recommend them to anyone.

I have only had positive experiences with Albert and Eve! Everything is local, fresh, and best of all you get to pick what you want from a variety of options every week.
A couple of times things have either come bruised or "old" looking, as this is to be expected with any produce delivery. However, Brandon goes out of his way to load you up with extra fruits and veggies if you just write him a quick note and let him know. Their customer service is seriously stellar.
I have and will recommend to all of my friends :) -

Just switched from Capay Organics - Farm Fresh to You and it seems we made the right choice. We weren't able to be home to let them in on the scheduled delivery day so they came back the next day exactly when they said the would. Every week we can pick which foods we want which is important due to some food allergy testing we're doing. It's slightly less food than Capay but costs slightly less too. So far so good!

Received my first delivery today. I was so surprised how much food I received. Everything looks so fresh and yummy.
I had signed up for another service due to the number of people in my building using the service. I had to cancel it before I had received a delivery due to their incompetence. A&E had my order processed and delivered in 3 days when the other company (FF2U) couldn't get it taken care of in a week.
I will be using this service on a regular basis! Also, should point out that the driver, Nigel, was very polite and makes me feel comfortable giving them a key to my building.
Give them a try if you don't like it there is no commitment. -

i've been a fan of Albert & Eve since the fall of 2009, they are the first and only CSA type of service i have ever used. i can't compare them to any other organization but i can't imagine anyone else duplicating the level of service they offer.
first of all, you get to pick what you want.
second, they deliver it for free.
third, you can choose weekly or biweekly delivery, you can suspend deliveries easily if needed, then start them back up again without a hitch.
if you have one of those sustainable, urban lifestyles that does not include car ownership, then i don't need to tell you what a dream it is to have someone (basically) go to the farmers market and bring it home for you.
the charming delivery person actually keeps track of my gate key, and puts my delivery on the top step next to my door. if there is ever a problem or question Brandon is swift and generous in resolving it. -

I've been receiving organic fruits and vegetables for the past 6 months and I love the produce. The website makes it easy to select my weekly fruits and/or vegetables so I can customize what I want for the week. The service is excellent as well and they always respond to my emails right away.
Go for it...it's worth ordering their produce. -

I love these guys! They have changed how we eat in our house. They have given me a reason to think about eating organic and notice the difference. It is so nice to come home and have fresh fruit and vegetables waiting for us. The variety is terrific and have given me the opportunity to try things not readily available at Lucky or Safeway. When I have called or emailed them, they have responded quickly and super friendly.

This is a very good Community Supported Agriculture (SCA) service! They give you a menu of options for weekly, bi-weekly or one-time home deliveries of different sizes and varieties of organic vegetable and fruit boxes with optional additional items of bottled olive oil, organic jams, preserves and almond butter. Some specific veges and fruits on the weekly menu are not always what one would choose to buy in the store, but you can customize and they will keep a list of your dislikes if you tell them to. The quality of the produce is consistently good to exceptional. When ocassional mistakes get made, they are always happy to resolve the issue promptly. Over 90 percent of the produce is from local farms and even when some items aren't they are certified organic. Prices are reasonable and delivery to your door is included in the price. This is a local small business that brings value to your lifestyle and is very worth supporting.
