Best value
- $4 for a burrito the size of my forearm, $2 for a taco the size of 4 tacos from a taco truck
- They stuff so much meat into everything
Convenient
- open 24 hours
- right off of the freeway
- fast service
- fountain soda
Taste great
- Try the carne asada burrito, al pastor taco, or the carne asada fries!
Wow. -

Aliso Viejo, CA
With the many good reviews, I expected something more. We ordered the carne asada fries and the fish tacos. They are massive, greasy and eating half of the fish taco, I felt like throwing up.
It is cheap, the portions are huge and it's greasy. If you are into that kinda food, this place is definitely your playground.
I will skip this place and spend more money on something better and tastier. -

Two words. Drunk munchies.
I can't even count the number of times I've been here at all hours of the night with a bunch of drunk people from a party (as DDs were available of course) and just pounded down an order of carne asada fries. Absolutely delicious, unhealthy, greasy, and delightful. I wouldn't have it any other way.
I've been here maybe twice during the day, and I have to say that it was not only extremely strange being there with daylight, but it was also packed! The wait is never long even if the line is out the door. Roll on in and get your fix. Best quick/cheap Mexican food this far north of San Diego for SURE. -

Great, cheap food that will probably clog your arteries. I always get the California burrito and it never disappoints! The enchiladas are pretty good too.

You get huge portions here for your buck but the food is greasy and not that good. Cash only no credit card. They have an ATM and yes there is a convenience fee and your bank will probably charge you as well. The only reason I eat here is it's 24 hours and I work nights. If your looking for a late night eat ery and don't mind the quality then this is OK for what it is.

Lake Forest, CA
You get value for your money here. The food is cool (considering how late it is open - it definitely trumps all the other late-night options - i.e. jack in the box). This is widely-known as the 24/7 spot in orange county (specifically lake forest area) that serves all mexican food. I usually get the carne asada fries or california burrito (which is basically the carne asada fries inside a tortilla. If you come here in the night though, expect drunk people.

Ate at Albatros again! This time I went with a torta instead of a burrito. My brother chose the Torta with carne asada and I had mine with chorizo.
The carne asada torta comes with guacamole, tomato slices and a thin piece of carne asada. I thought they would have prepared it with the carne chopped. My brother was not happy, but because I'm such a sweet sister I shared half of my torta with chorizo, which tasted so good and better than I had expected. The cooks prepare the chorizo well. Definitely, worth a taste if you are craving a delicious mexican sandwich!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Dear GOD this place is awesome!
I have to say that their fish taco is the best one I've tasted anywhere!
Their Californian Burrito is good too, but taco's better
Prices are more than reasonable in my opinion.
Their fries are f-in awesome, but it might be too big
If you're planning on eating something else, share the damn fries
DO TRY THEIR FISH TACO!!!
Lastly, their Horchata's not bad at all, but I've had better~ -
Review from Andrew B.
I understand why people like the place but it doesn't really separate itself from any of the other Alerto's/Alberto's style restaurants in terms of quality. The portions are really huge, the food has that wonderful, greasy, clog your arteries, goodness that you come to look for between the hours of 11PM and 4AM (which means they are open 24/7), and it's not too expensive.
But... the service was ridiculously slow, so I don't really imagine making the trek back out here to get another round of delicious fries. I can get some closer to home without the long wait. -

La Mirada, CA
Dude! Best California Burrito in Orange County! It's all about the keeping the fries crispy. Then you get that texture in each bite. I love it!!!
Plus, it has the virtue of being right next to the Hat! Me & my friends usually share a California Burrito & then go to the Hat and split some chili cheese fries! That is http://Dabomb.com! -

OVER-RATED!!
This place is "okay" - it is not GREAT, but it is not TERRIBLE!!
The most convenient thing about this place is that they are open 24 hours!! Which makes it an life saver to UC Irvine Students who are up late studying for midterms and finals.. or just when we have midnight munchies
This is like your typical albertos or alertos. I think my favorite thing here is their carne asada fries. But if you get that you need some friends to share it with :) If I was here alone (which is never) I think I would get their chicken tacos
Okay taste-ing food. But Huge portion, Cheap price!!!!!!! and remember to bring CASH!!
I think the place is kinda small so sometimes there's seating and sometimes there isnt. depends on your luck. It's kinda dirty too, but it's CHEAP, so dont expect too much!!Listed in: 24/7 for the win!!!

Fountain Valley, CA
Carne asada fries (~$7) was loaded w/ meat, cheese, sour cream, and guac; amazing how the fries were still crispy even after the 15 min drive home. The taco al pastor was a-ok (~$2), the chicken taco was a-ok (~$2), and the fried fish taco was massive ($2). No wonder this place is popular - it's open 24hrs, you get loads of food for little money, and service is quick.
Other important info: across from The Hat, next to bowling alley, limited parking, hole-in-the-wall, lines move quickly, cash only, unsanitary salsa bar an fountain drink station, large portions, HS and college kid hangout, fries are still crispy even after 15 mins in car ride home. -

Hearing about this place for a long time. It's the spot where all the UCI students go too for their Mexican food fix. This place is the Alerto's of south OC. The only items you need to order here is the Carne Asada fries and California Burrito.
The fries here are nicely shaped and crispy. It isn't the big chunks of potatoes you get elsewhere. The meat was also really good as well. Everything else was pretty usual. This spot gets packed in the evenings and it's open 24/7. This place is good but not worth the drive for me
Recommendation: Carne Asada fries and California burrito -

Gardena, CA
I love this place, last night my hall mates and I were craving some tacos at 2 am and the surrounding Mexican food restaurants were all closed. We found Albatros on Yelp and decided to go because it was conveniently open 24 hours.
I loved the food, I ordered a carne asada taco and a carne asada burrito with guacamole and onions. The taco looked like a burrito with so much meat in it; it was amazing. The food was good, way better than I expected. Also, the price was good. I payed less than ten dollars for the two things I ordered and a large Horchata. The amount of food you get for the price is very reasonable, even for poor college students. -

Late night? Nothing open? No problem! Come to Albatros!
A bit hard to find, but totally worth it. It was 1 am and my friends and I were getting pretty hungry and nothing was open. Yelp away and we find this little gem of a hole in the wall that serves some awesome food.
I split the carne asada fries and it was deliciousness in a styrofoam box that I inhaled instantly. I didn't even feel bad about it afterwards, that's how awesome it was.
Going to come back again and again and again for more food! -

PROS:
The food.
Open 24 hours a day
Huge portions.
Carne Asada Fries & California Burrito [breakfast burrito is one of my favorites too!]
Line is never too unbearable
CONS:
NO CASH?! I don't want to use that ghetto little atm in the corner of your store that charges for use... But for those with wells fargo, theres one very closeby! -
Review from Annie N.
San Gabriel, CA
I eat carne asada fries quite frequently and in a lot of different locations. I read in one of the oc articles that Albartos has one of the best carne asada fries.
What I like:
the fries are thin-cut crispy
What I don't like:
It's like 9 dollars for carne asada fries
too saucey with the guacamole, sour cream
fries are bland
The fries have no salt on them at all. When I mix the sour cream and guacamole together it becomes too saucey. It might be due to the fact they put too much sour cream into the carne asada fries. I think in the oc Los sanchez has the best carne asada fries. Albartos is just over rated.
Their tacos are like 3 bucks but it's a massive taco it's like 3 combine into one with a overdose of meat.
I love love the horchata here it's like the perfect blend of cinnamon. I can drink like two cups of this.
Remember: this is a cash only spot. -

One of those rare things you find out in this area - "Open 24 Hrs"
('Something besides Taco Bell or the microwaved burrito from 7-11.)
'Was driving back from Hollywood last week, Tuesday, shortly after 3am...
'And hungry. 'Heard good things about Albatros, since it was on the way home, & just off the 5 FWY, all signs pointed here.
I always get the Al Pastor Burrito(BBQ Pork), whenever it's available & also wanted to try their California Burrito. 'Decisions, decisions...
It was a tough choice... So, I got both! (Yes, my @ss is a fat.)
Al Pastor (5 Stars): Great; very tasty; flavorful; nice amount of meat, not just filler - like "Jip'otle," oops, meant Chipotle.
The Jip'otle Burrito - http://www.yelp.com/bi...
California Burrito (4 Stars): Very good; tasty; good portions
'Both burritos are definitely worth trying!
(However, the tortillas were slightly on the hard & chewy side.)
Salsa Bar (3 Stars): The salsa bar is limited to only three options.
1. Pico di Gallo: Good; fresh
2. Red Salsa: Okay; fair amount of heat; watery
3. Green Salsa(Salsa Verde): Very good; nice heat; gotta try this one!
The Salsa Verde has a nice flavor & unlike other similar sauces, this one has a bit of heat to it! Very nice.
If you've have that early morning hunger, swing by the Albatros for some Mexican grinds!
- Aloha!

Love this place.
Have been going here for my anytime food satisfaction craving for 2 years now?
Oh the college life...
Love this place because it's:
-cheap
-great-tasting
-a hole-in-the-wall
-24-hours
-big portions
-best MEXICAN place in the area
-cheap
All those combined make Albatros an awesome place to go at 3 in the morning after an all-nighter and I'm dying for something to eat... Oh wow, there's people here at 3am! Join the party!
Try the california burrito (really interesting because the fries are thin and crispy instead of most places where they are thick and soft)
Fish tacos (big crunchy piece of fish, with probably tartar sauce and something else, but the sauce is sweet and the fresh veggies are a great compliment)
Carnitas fries (go out of the box and stray away from the carne asada fries for once- oh c'mon I know it's tough but you can do it! they are great, the meat is softer and more tender and tastes really awesome with the fries and other awesome toppings, DO IT)
Come join the club and feast with us college students who come here at every hour of everyday. The food is a great size for the price and it taste's good, you can't go wrong. Being from San Diego, I get mexican mexican food all the time everywhere, and since moving up to Lake Forest, Albatros is so satisfying I'm not that sad about leaving my mexican joints in San Diego. -
Review from Peilin N.
Lake Forest, CA
Wonderful 24-hour "texmex" food. Carne asada fries are the best - with tons of cheese, meat, guacamole. There is a fresh salsa bar also where you can grab as much lime, onions, salsa, and sauces as you'd like.
Be sure to try the Jamaica Fresca (hibiscus juice). Refreshing, sweet, and flavorful!
Perfect way to cut the grease and lower your carne asada fries induced blood pressure. -

Mission Viejo, CA
Came here really really late one night with my boyfriend looking for some greasy and filling mexican food. I knew that Albatros is owned by the same people who own Albertacos in Mission Viejo so I figured they wouldn't disappoint. They're also open 24/7 so that's definitely a plus.
I ordered a carne asada burrito and split beans and rice with le boyfriend. The burrito was good and piping hot. The beans and rice however were amazing and was the perfect addition to a greasy burrito.
This is definitely a really good place for delicious mexican food at a super good price! -

I'd like to describe their tacos with one word. HEFTY! I was just amazed at how much meat they had in them. However I was a bit disappointed with their meat quality, especially after reading through the good reviews. I ordered carne asada and al pastor. Both were well flavored but really chewy. Maybe I got a bad batch?
The line is long so be prepared to wait. Even after I got my food (which took a while too) there was still people in line. For those that have the midnight munchies rest assured. This place is open 24 hours. -

THANK GOD FOR 24 HOUR PLACESSS
This is one of those places where you should definitely go when you're studying your ass off for finals. Me and two good friends came here the Saturday before finals week at 6am. We were starving and decided to get some derricious messican food.
In my opinion, the best things to get here are the California Burrito and the Carne Asada Fries. They're probably the most unhealthiest things to get here but during finals week, you couldn't care less about what kinds of things go in your mouth ;]
I ordered carne asada fries and could really only eat half of it because it filled me up. But the meat was so flavorful and yummay.
The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the service. But it's 6am. I can't really blame them for being irritable and unhappy. But they food was pretty on hit. -

I'm a huge fan of the California burrito -- since moving back down here from the PNW area - I had to have my burrito fix. My favorite place is Lolitas down in San Diego -- and since I wasn't going to drive an hour for a burrito -- this place had to be it.
Burrito is not bad -- hit the spot but definitely doesn't compare to some SD places.
Next will be the carne asada fries --
Really -- I'd give this place 3.5 stars if they allowed half points! -

San Jose, CA
Good place for late night drunk munchies! We came here after a night of clubbing and one portion of the carne asada fries filled up three people! All those carbs and grease sobered us up real quick. The location is alright, not super clean but average for a hole in the wall spot. It's a good option for the OC but I prefer the late night mexican food choices in SD.

I actually crave their salsa roja. My favorite is the Carne Asada burrito and the chips and cheese.
Other winners are the ceviche de camarones, rolled tacos, pollo asada, and sopes. The only thing I didn't care for are the french fries. Get the guacamole, its worth it.
Service is fast, food is great, it does get crowded later at night, they are always open. -
Review from Chris F.
Lake Forest, CA
Great place to get a big old burrito or their awesome super fries/nachos. The fries and nacho items come with heaps of your choice of meat (carne asada/carnitas/chicken/etc) along with guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. The burritos are huge and the price is low. Cash only though they have an ATM inside.
The place can get really busy at prime time but is open 24 hours. -
Review from Cliff C.
Damn, if this place isn't butt ugly -- from the run-down-looking interior to the usual suspects of Americanized Mexican fast food slopped into styrofoam containers, but there's something tasty and oddly satisfying about their grind.
The portions are solid, as is the overall taste of their food. I've only had an assortment of their burritos, soft tacos and enchiladas, but everything I've had, I liked. Not too crazy about everything encroaching on each other on my plate though -- the refries getting all up on my burrito and the enchilada sauce spilling over onto my soft tacos -- well, you get the idea. Guess I'm a bit OCD when it comes to my food preparation. I blame it on a steady diet of TV dinners as a child, and even then I remember the apple-cherry cobbler always had green beans in it. But again, I digress.
Going back to Albatros' food, like I said, it may look like hell, but it tastes pretty good. And it probably tastes like a five-course meal at Pinot Provence when you're post-closing-time shit-faced at 2:30 am, because this place is slinging it 24/7. But I think I'll leave the late-night gorges of tacos al carbon for the college students and after-hours crowd and stick with eating there at normal hours. -

Personally, I love Albatros. It has been good to me, I've always had a pleasant experience here. It's good drunk food and I want to be a fatty today food. The only thing I get is the Carne Asada fries, but I've tried the carnitas it's pretty good too. I always crave for their Carne Asada fries! :D

Review from James O.
Irvine, CA
This has to be the most overrated place in Lake Forest. The food is pretty good, at least as far as cheap and super-greasy Mexican food is concerned, but the service is abysmal. My girlfriend really likes some of the food here, so I've been here four times now, but every time it's the same exact story:
Cashier moves up to cash register to signal he is ready to take my order.
He does not say anything to me, rather just looks sort of at me. No eye contact, it's like he's looking behind me, or something.
I walk up and start to place my order. He still says NOTHING to me, just clicks in the machine starting blankly towards me. Sometimes I've even asked questions and gotten a head-shake in response... no actual voice communication whatsoever. When I'm done ordering he just continues to stare towards me, until I present him with cash. He'll then give me my change and receipt, and then stare towards the next customer in line.
I literally haven't heard a word spoken by any employee of this place in my four visits. Not. A. Single. Word. Other than "# 56!" of course.
In my observations, some customers seemed to be treated nicer than others; I would see the same cashier who stonewalled me treating some other customers much more politely. This is not the proper place to state why I believe this happens, although it is pretty clear to me, so I'm just going to leave at that.
All customers should be treated equally, and that doesn't happen here.
...Oh also this place will usually leave you with a stomach ache. -
Review from Ryan C.
San Francisco, CA
A cheap taqueria that's open 24 hours near Irvine..what more can you ask for? At first glance Albatros may seem sketchy, given its remote location (lake forest ) and the clientele, but trust me... its definitely worth it.
All you need to order here is either the carne asada fries or California burrito. The prices here are insanely cheap, for less than $7, you get a huge amount of food. The California burrito that I ordered, which was around $5, contained carne asada, sour cream, cheese, and crispy fries. This may seem different than your typical burrito with meat, rice, and beans, but this combination was amazing!
The carne asada fries, around $7, is definitely a meal for two people. They pile the fries high with carne asada, cheese, and guacamole.
The only downside is that the food here is really greasy, but who cares when it tastes good and its such a good deal. Just a reminder, be prepared for long lines late at night because it's packed with UCI students or drunk people. -
Review from Keycee D.
I've had this place bookmarked due to Maria H.'s recommendation to their Carne Asada Fries since my experience at Alberto's was horrible. My BF saw my bookmark and surprised me at work with some food from Albatros for lunch. He got the Fish Taco Combo (2 fish tacos, rice & beans) & cheese fries. The Fish was pretty good, but that's all I liked. I LOVE Fries, but not the cheese fries from Albatros, and the fish taco wasn't amazing - i ended up just eating the fish.
My BF also got their pineapple drink and OH-EM-GEE, it taste like pineapple with dish SOAP!! :(
I was disappointed! They didn't even give him forks or napkins, Luckily I read his text to bring forks and napkins from work before we headed out to have lunch at the park.
Even though the first experience was horrible, i'm still taking Maria H.'s advice and try their Carne Asada fries when I have the cravings for it. I will for sure do an update review then. -

Carne Asada Fries. I don't want to use the word cheap. But let's just say you get a lot of bang for your buck. And yes buck, because the last time I checked they are cash only.
I contemplated giving it 4 stars because of the cash thing, but it never bothered me when I go there, so I won't let it bother me on yelp.
Driving by you would never stop at this place unless you knew about it. There's nothing fancy, or hipster about it that screams come in, I taste good. But they let the food do the talking. It's soo good. Lots of meat and guacamole. And they give you a big portion. My friends and I would go out of our way to come here.
I'm from San Francisco and there are a lot of good burritos in the bay area that deserve 4 or 5 stars. But, I still haven't found one close to Albatros' style or flavor. If you know one, let me know! -

Santa Ana, CA
When I went there I ordered the Chicken Burrito; and my girlfriend ordered the California Burrito.
The Chicken Burrito was just a huge wad of shredded chicken wrapped in tortilla. I like a bit of variety in my food, but this really didn't have any.
The California Burrito was creative with the addtion of the French Fries but that was the only thing that stood out.
I enjoyed the Salsa but I ended up applying a lot to make my food more flavorful.
This is a great place if you are looking for cheap meat; for me it's not quite my cup of tea. -
Review from Andrew S.
Santa Ana, CA
I've been wanting to try this place since I read about it on Yelp about a month ago. I was so looking forward to it. So my brother and I went today. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito and the Carne Asada fries. My brother ordered the fish tacos.
While waiting for the food I used the restroom. The floor between the dining area and the restroom seemed to be greased. I barely made it without falling, it was raining today though so I guess that could have been the problem. The bathroom made me feel like I had just stepped into Ensenada, it was pretty gross and not in great shape.
Once the food arrived, my bro seemed satisfied with the tacos, he said they weren't the best he'd had but they were "pretty good." I could hardly wait for my fries to be ready. They looked delicious, just like the pictures I saw on Yelp. I dug right in. I was sadly disappointed though. The carne asada could have been boiled, that's how much flavor was missing. It didn't taste as if it had been seasoned at all. The guacamole that I think they insist on putting on everything was very unimpressive. It didn't taste bad, but it didn't take good either. It was very okay, it was what I would expect if my grandma from Missouri made guacamole. The fries were crisp, but the toppings were so boring that the entire thing was doomed for me. The burrito was the same story. Near flavorless meat with mediocre at best guacamole. I was so bummed out. I'm guessing it's locals who keep this place in business, they must have eaten it enough that it's grown on them. I can't imagine anyone thoroughly enjoying it the first, second, or third time.
The employees refused to make eye contact or even really look at me. They stared past me when I ordered and picked up my food, it was almost like something really exciting was happening outside, kind of strange.
Another note, they don't take credit cards, so bring cash. They have an ATM that you can pull cash out of, but it charges a $1.85 service fee. -

Everytime I visit Irvine, I make it a priority to stop here. Plus , who wouldnt want to come here for.....Carne asada fries (esp after a night of drinking because they're open 24 hrs)!!! For a joint that's open 24 hours, the food is tastes wonderfulicious, fresh, and authentic! I've only had the carne asada fries and it's filled with juicy meat, all the tasty sides, and skinny fries! The salsa bar has good variety but I am so excited to bring down Nor cal's orange sauce (Iguanas/La Vics) to eat with the fries!! Only con is that it's cash only.

I've heard of this place an how "bomb" the carne asada fries are here during my freshmen year at UCI. So fast forward to the middle of my second year an heres my review on it.
Carne asada fries:
I usually mix my order with Pico de Gallo and the red sauce. Man at first this just taste amazing, every bit is something different. I honestly love this, up until half way through. The fries get stale and the cheese begins to get cold an hard. There is just way too much of it for me to eat. I wish they had half orders because that would perfect.
Recommendation: get the tortilla chips instead of the fries. There is just a better texture and I feel that it compliments all the toppings better.
California burrito:
Everything in the carne asada fries wrapped into a burrito. Unless ur starving and dying of hunger would recommend this masterpiece. I prefer this more because the tortilla keeps the cheese from hardening up and the fries from being cold. The buritto is the best on the menu.
Recommendation: If you want a little more flavor get the al pastor instead of the Carne asada. It adds a little more of a kick to you taste buds.
This place is knows how to feed people and for the price I cannot complain.
Enjoy everyone!!! -

om nom nom.
Decent food! I'm from San Diego, so living in Irvine has been hard since the closest I can get to what I call "real-fake Mexican food" has been Chipotle, and that is quite a long shot. The prices are very fair. I got a carne asada burrito (4.10) and fries on the side (1.25), and the servings sizes are pretty big!!
The burrito wasn't mindblowingly spectacular, but compared to what I've had in Santa Ana, it was delightful. The fries were really hot (I sampled a few on the trip back to my apartment), but by the time I got back to sit down and eat, I noticed that they didn't taste very good. Meh. The salsa was okay...I didn't like the red salsa at all. But the pico de gallo and green salsa weren't too bad. -

In a nut shell, Albatros has the best carne asada fries outside of San Diego. They make it with the skinny shoestring fries, instead of the thick easy-to-get-soggy steak fries, just the way I like it. The fries also stay crispy for pretty long.
One order of it with a side of tortilla will be under ten bucks and can easily feed two starving people.
It opens 24 hours. Come in your jammies at three in the morning and you will have a party in your mouth (no pun intended). No muss, no fuss. -

During my college days I used to go to Taco Burrito Palace in Chicago. It couldn't get any more greasy for late night drunk food.
Albatross takes it to the next level, but without the grease. You've got to try the Carne Asada Fries. The serving is so big I couldn't even finish it with my steak taco. Not to mention the amount of meat they put in the taco. They put Taco Bell to shame.
I would say that the pictures don't do it justice. Just try it out for yourself. One of these days I am going to try the California Burrito.
Remember to bring cash, but if you forget, there is a cash machine inside because that's how they do business. Cash only.
