I read the reviews here on Yelp and had to get a haircut so I tried Rosalva. Let me just tell you she's awesome, she cut my hair in 30 minutes and I got SO many compliments! I had a shoulder length hair and decided to go for a bob cut. Every time I had styled my hair differently, I would be asked if I had another haircut, my hair was growing (it grows FAST) so she cut it well enough to make my cut look like I've been getting a hair cut every other week!
I went back and got another cut...and still got compliments, even from strangers! If you're willing to try someone new, you should go to Rosalva, I have thick Asian hair and I think she can relate/understand how to work with that type of hair.
Since my last hair cut in April, my head of hair became a dried out, lackluster 'fro. I have thick and wavy hair thanks to the wonderful genes from my father. As a result, I usually flat iron my hair to keep it looking presentable. I know that when I start pinning my bangs back, it's time to get it cut. Thanks to Yelp, I found Rosalva who is the owner of Albany Hair Salon.
I decided to go a little shorter with my hair for a bob cut. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my haircut. I really liked the fact that she looked at the picture and really thought about it how it would translate to my hair. Previous stylists have just merely glanced at the picture.
Rosalva is a quick cutter. I always get a little anxious and panicky when stylists take to my hair. I think I have PTSD from having an absolutely terrible haircut several years ago. She would stop and ask me if I wanted my bangs cut this way or the back cut another way. It was nice of her to ask me what I wanted. It looked a bit poofy but after a couple of hours, it settled down nicely.
I'm really happy with my haircut. I've gotten lots of compliments on my hair. She charged me $40 for wash, cut, and style which isn't too bad.
I went to this salon on a recommendation from a friend, and I received a great haircut from Nicole at a reasonable price. She gave me exactly what I wanted and also modified the shape slightly to make it most flattering for my face shape. Everyone at the salon is friendly, and I always feel comfortable and confident that my cut will turn out when I return. This is a no frills salon (they don't wash or blow dry your hair unless you ask for it), but for the price it can't be beat.
Rosalva gives great haircuts. I picked out a look I liked recently when I wanted to make a change. We discussed it...a little of this a little of that. She was as excited as I was to do a makeover on me. The cut was perfect and grew out great as well. Albany Hair Salon is also a very comfortable salon. You can talk a lot or a little or not at all. Prices are good. Highly recommend it!
This place is easy to walk by, but somehow we were in the area when my brother needed a haircut, and stopped in here.
Cuts are $14 (more for long hair) and the older asian woman does an excellent job of figuring out what flatters your face, plus her cuts grow out extremely well. That's saying a lot because we both have thick asian hair from our mom, but it's more unruly because our dad's white-- so my brother has this mop of wavy hair that is almost impossible to tame. After making the little bro shop around for haircuts for a while, this is one he can rely on consistently. Of course, being a teenager he doesn't care that much, but I think this place does an excellent job.
Ok so, I too was on a long hiatus from getting my haircut after a bad experience in July. I got a truly horrendous haircut at a cheapo chain store. I was pinning my hair back for months. My boyfriend gets his haircut down the street so I looked here on Yelp for a place nearby and found Albany hair salon. After reading these reviews I decided to make an appointment with Rosalva, the owner. So happy I did. She looked at the picture and gave me what I asked for. What I really liked is that she was not scissor happy. I have had problems in the past with stylist cutting off far more than I am comfortable with and then showing me the results. Rosalva did not, she took off a little, then showed me and I decided if more would be taken off. She is very friendly, good at listening to what the customer wants, and more importantly I am happy with my haircut, it looks alot healthier and has more body. I recommend this place, my haircut was $30, I have medium- long hair.
A friend first told me about Albany Hair Salon a few years ago and I've been getting my hair cut there ever since. I no longer live near Albany, but keep going back here because I like them so much. Both Rosalda and Nicole do excellent cutting and styling, all for a very reasonable price. I've witnessed some great color jobs they've done as well. It's in a convenient location on the Albany end of Solano. I've usually been able to get appointments on pretty short notice, but they usually close by 6 and are not open on Sun. or Mon.
I have been going to Albany Hair Salon for about 5 years now and Rosalva cuts and colors my hair. Nicole did my highlights once when Rosalva was extremely busy. Since Nicole trained under her I had no worries and she did a great job! Now, as for the asian woman, Rosalva asked her to dry and style my hair when she was in a pinch. She tugged at my hair a bit too much and it was not a great experience. The prices are reasonable. They also have good prices on the Redken products and other hair accessories, such as brushes, and clips. The waiting area in very comfy and they have a ton of the latest mags to read before and during the time ur on the chair. There is parking in front of the shop and on the side streets.
I stumbled across this place by accident, just because I was desperately shaggy and they were the only salon in the area that took plastic--and I've been going back faithfully for two years. Nicole actually LISTENS to what I want (unlike many stylists who charge 3x as much), and always has terrific suggestions. She really knows how to make my goofy curls look great!
