Review from Gabrielle K.
Chesapeake, VA
Great coffee, great atmosphere, great team of (2) employees, they know almost everyone in there and soon you do too! It's almost like Cheer's started a coffee shop! They now roast their own coffee so it smells like Folger's heaven on a section of Granby street. Lot's of TCC students, city employees, and dancers from the dance studio two doors down. If you want coffee on Granby a'Latte is the place to go!

I love this place on the inside. It's cute and quirky and eclectic. There are some great things on the menu. Plus they have ice cream - that rules. However, I generally do not like the espresso here - and I overall do not care for any of the milkshakes beyond the basics. The little bites to eat are great, the staff is great, and the other drinks are pretty delicious. This place is mostly getting 3 stars for just having a rad atmosphere. It's worth going to hang out at with some friends.

Everything you want in a coffee shop +399: friendly and competent baristas, tasty snacks, plenty of comfortable furniture, glass front for people-watching. My home away from home for VA Int Tattooscapade.

Excellent coffee shop with a large menu and plenty of seats. They roast their own coffee beans here so it smells amaaaazing. The owners seem to have an affinity for giraffes, you'll see what I mean. It's kind of cute. If you play the piano here's your chance to serenade a beautiful stranger in a coffee shop.

Friendly barristas; casual eclectic atmosphere with some comfy couches, books and games. Almost too spacious, but great place for gathering or just to relax. $1.95 for a 20-oz cup of good coffee - haven't tried any of the frou-frou stuff.

This coffee shop is one of those that you hope to find around every college campus. The owners are always there and take time to get to know their customers. Everything is clean and unique. The decor is comfortable and unusual but fits harmoniously.
As far as the coffee goes, always on point! I have never been disappointed in their coffee or food. Usually I will get the Turkey and swiss on wheat with a medium nonfat vanilla latte (highly recommend). -

This place is nice. My favorite part about it is the atmosphere - the inside is really great and cool looking. Probably the best coffeeshop to go on a date to, based on how cute the inside is. Drinks are nice and inexpensive. I dig that it's local. The baristas are kind of shut off from you, I usually like to talk to whoever is working a bit and you can't really do that here. The biggest downfall for me is their food (especially breakfast) is just lacking. It tastes weird. Microwaved, not fresh, etc. Outside of that, though - the drinks are all really yummy.

I work in Ghent and these folks are not open weekends or late hours.

Love this place! I attend school in downtown Norfolk, so I visit aLatte' a least two times a week. I am never disappointed!
The decor is eclectic and fun! It seems to be always changing, and they even hang local artists work on the walls!
The owners are always friendly and helpful! The coffee is great and I love the comfy couches and REAL coffee house feel it has!
Great place! -

I worked in downtown Norfolk when aLatte first opened and I remember counting the days and being desperate for it to open.
I wanted a real live hip coffee shop that WASN'T a Starbucks where I could lounge around and write my great American novel (still waiting on that part).
I got it and a lot more. The husband and wife team that own it--Melissa and Neil--are so cool and laid back. It's spacious and cozy at the same time with changing art on the walls and yummy paint colors and a cool street lamp in the middle of the floor.
The coffee's great. They buy from a local roaster--based in my home town of Gloucester, I do believe.
They have bagels and ice cream and a few basic but tasty sandwiches. No grill stuff.
Did I mention they have a copy of Walter the Farting Dog on their bookshelf? -

I work upstairs and Neil & Melissa greet me with a warm welcome every time I come in. I usually order a white chocolate mocha or an english toffee latte.. both are very good choices. Sometimes when I don't have time to grab breakfast, I'll have an egg/cheese/bacon sammich from the cafe. And I think this shop's coffee/teas are better than Starbucks!
They also serve other things like smoothies & ice cream, but I haven't tried any yet. But I promise you, I will this year and I'll letcha know! :)

Take the ultra-hip vibe and caffeine overload of a quaint and artsy coffee shop, mix in elements of a soda fountain and for fun add an ice cream parlor--that makes for a whole latte of steaming, foaming, sparkling goodness.
A Latte Cafe is much more than the sum of its parts. The space is large and inviting. Urban living room decor is sprinkled throughout sections of tables and chairs. A piano graces the entrance, giving it a home-y, comforting feel. Local art, photography and chalkboards on the walls awaken your creativity.
Use that creative energy to order something more unique than the customized beverage you order on autopilot at Starbucks. I added almond syrup (can't get that at Starbucks!) to an Americano, made extra bold with an added shot of espresso. The result was tastefully uplifting.
There is a huge assortment of wholesome snacks to choose from. A friend and I split a Cookiehead cookie, which was the perfect compliment for morning java.
I'm itching to try an Italian soda -- sparkling water with one or a combo of their many flavored syrups. I'm thinking lemon ought to be refreshing. There is a small selection of sandwiches and breakfast items. Smoothies too.
A Latte Cafe is a true delight for those of us hustling and bustling the day away in downtown. Definitely make it a stop and you'll be energized, refueled and focused for your day. -

The only locally owned and run coffee shop in downtown Norfolk. Neil and Melissa, the owners/baristas, are gracious wonderful people. The coffee is roasted just over the line in NC, I believe. The comfortable buzz of people that frequent the place include downtowners, TCC students, downtown workers, and the occasional mobile worker.
Free Wi-fi with no password makes the place a great place to have a cup of joe and settle in at a table or on a couch to get some work done. It is often my office away from the office.
Great coffee, great management, and a friendly clientele make this my favorite downtown coffee shop. -

Ah! So refreshing to have a locally owned coffee shop in the neighborhood! If I never see another Starbucks again I think I'll lead a happier life.
Came here for coffee and got a vanilla latte (extra hot) and it was delightful. I have no idea how Melissa made it but this was hands down the best vanilla latte I have ever had...not too sweet and not too bitter. Perfection.
I will definitely be coming back here to support local business, to get some amazing coffee, and to try some of their baked goods :) -

I hate to admit but I went to the local coffee shop off Granby and ordered a strawberry smoothie....The smoothie was very good!
This place has plenty of room for you to hang out with comfy couches and tables. The staff was very friendly and the service was great!
FREE WIFI too!
Only thing is not sure of parking and with all the construction on Granby had to park a bit out of the way way in metered 2 hr parking. -

Cute shop, though I found the owner/barista to be a bit cold. A medium American has four shots, which is impressive. I'm giving this place four stars because the coffee was quality and the place felt really unique. I enjoyed it.

Of all the coffeeshops I have been to (countless), this is by far my favorite. The coffee is amazing and affordable. The food menu is very diverse as well. The staff is very personable and friendly. The atmosphere will make you want to get a "for here" cup and stay awhile.

I love this place! Now I won't lie...the vanilla latte has a weird taste to it, IMO. But the coffee and ice cream are great, the place has a cute chill vibe to it, and the magazine selection is pretty cool. It's a husband and wife team who run/own it, and it's worth it to me to go out of my way to stop in when I can and support their business...they're nice people and Norfolk could stand some more place like it.
