Wow, this place is awesome! My kind of place, casual, fantastic food, good prices. No pretense here, just great food at good prices. The only draw back we found was the parking-there is none that we could find. It is downtown, so there are plenty of parking garages, and pay to park lots, but AGS has none of there own. Minor draw back when the food is this good. We tried the place at the suggestion of a co-worker who told me it was as good as Moosestooth w/o the ridiculous atmosphere of Moosestooth. He is right!

After searching on yelp and reading all sorts of reviews for a legit gyro place in Anchorage, I decided to hit up Alaska's Gourment Subs.
The lamb gyro was a bit flat and was a small portion. It was decent but not what I was looking for.
The sauce on the side (cucumber, maybe?) was a bit bland and had no flavor.
Im not sure what it was, but I wouldn't eat the gyros there again. However! I will definitely have to go back and try the sandwiches that people keep reviewing about. -

Awesome. Unlike most of the places I went in Anchorage, this was a true "Yelp find" -- meaning that it isn't one of the five places that every single person who happens to be in Anchorage is congregating at during any specific moment. Thank you prior yelpers for steering us to them.
The 6" sub is definitely substantial and will satisfy all but the most ravenous appetite. We both got the salmon sub and I've been thinking about it ever since. The bread was perfectly toasted and everything about the sandwich was good. If I'd had more time in Anchorage I'd definitely have gone back.
We could have saved money by ordering the 12" and splitting it, since we got the same thing. We weren't thinking clearly after a long day, but it wouldn't have killed the guy working there to suggest it, would it? Meh, not the end of the world.
Especially if you are from out of town, get away from the mobs for at least one meal and do yourself the favor of trying one of these subs. -

Pretty good food, however very expensive.

These really are gourmet subs. Five thousand times better than Subway. Really creative sandwiches and quick when you're trying to grab a fast lunch.

This little sub shop in downtown Anchorage is a hit for the business people for lunch. I had the Alaskan salmon sandwich and it really hit the spot. Try it on the Greek bread which is full of yummy spices but I'm sure any of their freshly baked breads are good.
It is a salmon salad made with a special garlic spread and it's to die for. It's served with lettuce, onions, and tomatoes with melted provalone cheese! Mmmm...
It hits the spot on these cool fall days!Listed in: Alaska work/foodie Trip

Had the Greek halibut sub and it definitely hit the spot. Chopped up halibut w/feta, onions and lettuce on oregano-herbed bread - mmmmm.
Alaska - yep, that's where it is
Gourmet - ok, I'll buy that for a dollar.
Subs - enough said. How do you mess up a sub? -

If you're a traveler wanting to make money on your per-diem and still eat really well, come here for lunch. I had a *half* salmon sandwich with a bowl of chili and couldn't keep my eyes open for the afternoon's conference sessions. IIRC, it was maybe $7 for that... Quick, clean, inexpensive, and delicious. Really delicious.

OMG!!! This is like the third time I have eaten here and it has been amazing every time!!! I had the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, and a Halibut wrap. The salad was great, I really like the wheat and white croutons, great touch. The Halibut wrap was good, but it was watery and dripped all over the place, but totally worth it. I ate about half of each and was stuffed!! They have good portions, and great food!!

This is the best sandwich place in anchorage no doubt. The place is kinda small, but the subs are too awesome to avoid coming in. Try the seafood melt.

I had the seafood sub there today - deciding to give the place a try. Ordering subs can sometimes get confusing - so many choices. But luckily it was a Monday and not too busy so the counter guy was able to talk me thru it. Seating was limited (people must have gotten there early!) but I found a bar stool and waited. Wow! did I blow my diet! It was THAT good. Soft, fresh Greek bread and a really different light dressing/seasoning on the seafood. I ate every bit of this medium sandwich and made a mental note that unless I want to look like a cow I'd better get the small next time. Yum! $9.95 for the med. sub, chips and drink.

I tried the seafood melt; and I knew I had to upgrade to 5 stars. Once I found this place, I probably ate here at least once a week until I had to relocate to Seattle. Their lamb gyro with taziki sauce, the greek halibut sub was just amazing; juicy, full of flavor and stuffed with good, fresh veggies. However, it was the seafood melt...YUM! They STUFFED this sandwich with crabmeat; it wasn't just a smattering 'here and there' of pieces of leftover meat; it was the perfect sandwich, and just thinking about it makes me hungry. And I just finished my lunch, y'all.

This is a great place to get lunch. They have a dining area but it's pretty small and fills up fast, so you should probably plan on getting your food to go. I don't recommend the lamb gyro but their sandwiches are quite tasty and very reasonably priced for what you get. The bread is fresh and the ingredients are high quality.

Tried this restaurant when on break from a trade show at the Denaina (?) Ctr. Very fast service & nice employees. Had the Greek Halibut sub. Excellent! Couldn't believe how little seating there was, but service was fast and we found a table pretty quickly. Don't remember the prices, but obviously wasn't shocked by them. Would definitely go there again if in the neighborhood.

Real small sandwich shop. I had the halibut sandwich. Real tasty. Wished there was more of the actual fish in it. About $7 for a six inch if I remember correctly. I will try the salmon next time. I did not see the seafood melt mentioned by some others.

A small sandwich shack, their straight up italian subs are delicious, and their salmon sub smelled so good it was almost torture walking the two blocks back to my hotel carrying it in the bag. Once I opened it up and took a bite, I was blown away. It had the perfect amount of delicious tangy sauce on top, on fresh sub bread. The one thing I didn't like was the tipping jar which seemed out of place at a sandwich shop.

I have returned to Alaska's Gourmet Subs three times since my first review. On the whole, the soups are good and the sandwiches and pizza are pretty average. The tomato-based soup that I tried one day was watery, but the beef stew and the reindeer sausage soup were pretty tasty. The sandwich meats still need work.
Reasonably friendly staff. Not always the most friendly or enthusiastic, but they don't dislike you, either. Overall, this is a good place and it merits three stars.1 Previous Review: Show all »
