I've gone here for every one of the major gift-purchasing holidays for hubby. He's loopy for fudge. He's also loopy for chocolate, berries, jellies... anything with sugar, actually. They also have some nifty Alaska items, if you want to spend the cash. The chocolate waterfall really adds to the sight and super-chocolate smell of the place; although kind of icky if you were to, say, dunk your hand in.

It's a fun place to bring visitors, and to help yourself to some yummy samples. I've never seen the movies, but I hear they're great. One of these years I'll have to make an effort to see them first-hand.

Pretty much a tourist trap with expensive souvenirs.  We bought 0.25 lbs of chocolate covered bacon for $5.50.  only so-so.  Not sure what the hype was about

For me, a touristy place qualifies as a place to buy nonessential items that will gather dust in your closet.  If you really really love collecting sweaters and t-shirts with Alaska printed all over it, go for it!

AK Wild Berry does have quite a collection of sweets, old-school candy, fudge, and jellies, but I've never really wanted to indulge in anything beyond some of the fudge varieties.  I'm just not a huge candy person anyway.

Ladies might like some of the jewellry or stuffed animals for children, but again, just not my taste.

There's an incredibly wonderful waterfall of molten chocolate in the entryway.

That sorta sets the tone for your entire visit.  There's a factory floor where you can watch them making confections, if they happen to be making any that day.  Today, only one of the rooms was doing anything of note.

If you want to get some chocolate or other candies, you'll have plenty of opportunity.  They've also got a substantial variety of other products, such as jams, jellies, and every form of preserved salmon you can shake a jerky at.  My wife was helped at the chocolate counter by a wonderful manager named Lisa.  Very friendly and service-oriented.

So yeah, it's a tourist trap.  But if you're in town and just gotta hit up one or two of those to make sure you've earned your stripes as a Well-Traveled patron, then get on out there.

Note: There's a free shuttle available from any of the major hotels.  Just call and they'll make sure the bus comes around to pick you up.

This spot is a well known stop for the tour buses in the summer time, and they do a lot of business. The chocolates are made on site, and they do have a tour of the candy kitchen visible behind the glass wall. The candy is fresh, and there are lots of free samples.

The most popular chocolates made there are "wild berry" jelly centers made from salmon berries, currants, blackberries, strawberries, and even fireweed blossoms. The differences between these are interesting but sometimes very subtle.

That being said, there are other prepackaged candies, jellies, canned salmon and syrups you can buy nearly everywhere in town for much less. There is also a wide variety of made-in-China trinkets and tee shirts. Save your money.

The biggest tourist attraction here is the chocolate waterfall. This is not the chocolate waterfall you get with a chocolate fondue party table but a greasy 10 foot fall over a 6 foot pool of greasy melted chocolate constantly circulated over the fall with a hydraulic pump. Mmmm.

This has probably  not been changed in years, and there is a sign saying this is not edible; but for  small children who cannot read.......well, you might just want to keep an eye  on them or they could end up  in the pool.

On my first trip to Alaska over 10 years ago, this was the first place we hit after being picked up from the airport.  Yes, it is still hopelessly touristy, but where else in the world can you see a synthetic 10+ foot chocolate fall and have your picture taken with larger than life stuffed animals... it IS a Kodak moment!

The chocolate, to me is NOT the greatest... kinda grainy and not creamy, but feel free to judge for yourself as they offer lots of samples to boost a sale.  The "jelly filled center" products are stuffed in many a carry on for the folks back home, but its just not of the highest quality.  That being said, you'll come across as a hero for buying and bringing home something that says Alaska on it.  The do have a great variety of other confections that make up for the mediocre signature jelly stuff thats is worth checking out.  The souvenir section is fairly good with prices on par with the tourist stops in downtown.

Chocolate quality - eh.  See my other reviews and you'll know I'm a chocolate snob.  That said, there's still something for everyone here.

Berry products, especially the enrobed fruit, are very good.

The chocolate fountain and the oversized stuffed bear and moose in the entry way signal "tourist trap", but otherwise this is a fun place for some last minute shopping before heading over to the Ted "almost convicted felon" Stevens International Airport.

This place is a mixed bag.  As a tourist site it's all right.  It's not the fantastic place that their advertising says, but it's still it's worth about 3 hours.

Their two movies were awesome, as in "inspiring awe". One was about Alaska, myths and the lands. The other was about the wildlife.  There's a cut rate for going to both movies.

In the back there are two separate "petting" areas with extra costs for each.  For $2/adult $1/kid you can pet and feed a reindeer.  For $5 you can pet the sled dogs and talk to a guy who did the Iditarod 3 times (broke his leg and totaled the sled on his second run).

The food was pretty good: salmon burger with bacon, two kinds of soup, reindeer hot dogs.  I thought the $3/scoop ice cream was pricey, and so I skipped it.

The gift shop was another story. I thought everything was overpriced.  They made their own candy. The chocolate-covered whatevers were $6 plus something per quarter pound! Everything else seemed in line with that overpricing.

The girl working the register sure was a dimwit, but I thought this place was pretty cool, high priced but cool.

I only visited the gift shop (I went twice)  The free samples of candy are basically the only real reason to go.  I bought t-shirts to send back to my family, I should have just gotten them tees from Moose's Tooth or something, but that's okay, I got like 3 samples of moose nuggets, muhahaha.

Weird flavored fruit jellies dunked in chocolate and available all over Anchorage.  We've been eating them for years and Grandma always sends them in a Christmas package.  Not the best things on the planet or anything, but most are pretty tasty.  Some taste like evil berry though, so look out for that nasty bomb....

Definitely a tourist trap but I love the samples of the wildberry jelly chocolates and the fresh jellies do taste better than buying the prepackaged box at Wal Mart or something.  I will be back for the jelly chocolates. I miss them.

Fantastic chocolate and I've had a lot of different kinds over the years. Even the sugarfree tastes fantastic . I highly reccomend the peanut butter cups. So good! The only issue I have is they are very spendy and it is a high volume tourist area.
