Alamosa Wine Cellars provided the total experience.  The campus is beautiful, being nestled in the northern part of the Texas Hill Country near the Colorado River, and they have rows upon rows of vines that the customers pass on the way to the tasting rooms.  They grow many of their tempranillo and syrah grapes on site.
We enjoyed everything that we tasted there.  Our palettes could have been influenced by our eyes, because the place is so visually stunning, but we had visited four other wineries before we made it down to Bend, so I think we were being pretty critical at the time.  Bonus points for the wine tasting flight being complimentary to all customers, not just Way Out Wineries road trip participants.
I recommend the trip here for any & everyone, but I strongly recommend a wine tasting here for groups.  When our group of 6 was there, another group of 4 or 6 entered the tasting room.  Noticing this, the winemaker invited us into the barrel room, where the red wines are aged, for a special presentation.  He corked one of the Syrah wines produced on site as well as a similar wine produced in the Rhone Valley of France.  Obviously, they want to show that they can produce a similar quality in Central Texas as they do in the corners of France where they have been making wine for millenia.  My rookie wine-taste gauge could not tell much of a difference, so the pitch worked on me.
It was a great all around experience, and I strongly recommend it to anyone.

This was our fourth winery, and one of our favorites. The quality of the wine was excellent and the people were friendly!

Texas Hill Country Wine Trail Passport # 1
Tasting Fee: If I remember correctly the tasting of 5 wines is free, plus $1 each for more than that. Water, crackers, dump (but we didn't use it here!)
Tasting Staff: Very friendly and very knowledgeable. Karen Johnson, one of the owners.
Facilities: large vineyard, nice tasting room adjacent to the cellars. Nice patio for having some lunch. Some cutesy wine crap for sale inside, along with local items.
Wine Dogs: a cute blue heeler and a red heeler? They had a picnic lunch with us on the patio.

We were really looking forward to going to this winery since our friend Karen bought us a bottle of  2004 Jaques Lapin (Alamosa's Chenin Blanc) and we ran into a bottle of their 2004 Orange Muscat at Central Market. We were NOT disappointed. We got to try some wines (including two Texas ports) that you can't get easily in stores.  Alamosa has gotten it right by realizing that we live in an arid hot climate, and tuning their winery to warm climate varieties only. The results are fantastic.

I wish we could have purchased one of everything, but we settled on the nonvintage Port ($18) and the 2006 Scissortail ($26)
