The fine people at Alamo Square Market make sandwhiches that consistently have me making yummy noises while i eat. Plus they carry Yoo Hoo. Score!

Their sandwiches are fresh, girthy, and won't leave you feeling hungry an  hour and a half later like that processed shit from subway.

I feel its our god given right to be able to spend less than $10 on lunch and Alamo Square Market is keeping the dream alive.

Great sandwich and friendly staff.  The simple fact that they had a sandwich named after one of the greatest metal singers that tasted as good as he sounds makes this a 5 star place.  \m/ \m/

I've lived in this neighborhood for a long time but only recently started going here and now I'm going every day.  The sandwiches are great and cheap and it pays to experiment.  The sandwich meats are top quality and the guys that make them must be handy at a picnic.

There's never a wait and the guys are friendly.  Some of my favorite eats in SF.

So i was really hoping this place would become my "market around the corner" for odds and ends I needed to pick up. Unfortunately, they never have anything I'm looking for. The guys that work there are nice though and always accept my packages when I'm not home.

Not only the best sandwich shop in the neighborhood, but also the best mini-market. Nice  guys, good food, nice selection of random beverages and crispy snacks. Just wish it were on my side of the Hayes St. hill..

Pretty decent sandwiches.  Why anyone would give this place a 5-star rating is beyond me.  That would imply this place is worth going out of your way fro, which it is not.   There are a million decent sandwich places in the city and this is one of them.

The sandwiches are great, blah, blah, blah...I am eating the best effing peach I've ever tasted in all my years on this planet, and it was plucked from an unassuming basket in the window at Alamo Square Market. If every piece of fruit was this good, candymakers would go out of business.

Tasty, cheap, and simple... I love this place.

I randomly go in from time to time and always come back with random crap.

I like this place because I can get a BLT with avocado for $5... I also enjoy the guys that work/own the place... They give it personality and I can appreciate that.

Whenever I crave a basic deli sandwich when I'm in my 'hood, you know I'll head on over to Alamo Sq. Market/Deli... I can't help but to love their simplicity.

Alamo Square Market just can't be beat when it comes to the world of corner stores, and here's why:

1)The sandwiches! For the love of god, these sandwiches are great and fairly cheap. Whether it's the Tuna, Zippity, Dio, or Green Monster, etc.-----these are top-notch sandwiches.

b).People who work here are nice and easy-going.

c).You can use credit card if it's over 5 scrillas

3) Interior Design

4) Few feet away from Alamo Square---one of the best spots in the city

Alamo Square Market makes me that much happier and confident that I made the right choice in moving to the Square. Whether it's gatorade, gum, brewskies, or sandwiches---this place will deliver and knock it out of the park everytime.

Thank you Jackie M. for the bomb hook up last night. So after a pretty solid happy hour at 821, Skeetal and I were looking for some grub before GG (DON'T JUDGE)! We passed by a BBQ place and Popeye's, both which had appeal (DON'T JUDGE) but we settled upon Alamo Square Market & Deli.

And I am glad we did and here is why. The place makes awesome sandwiches. I don't remember what my sandwich was called, it was one of their specialty sandwiches with Pastrami and horseradish (DON'T JUDGE). It hit THE spot and was the perfect compliment to GG. On top of that, all their specialty sandwiches sounded tasty, so picking just one was an accomplishment. I will have to come back next time I'm partying with Skeetal and Amy Z.

This place is chill, clean and friendly. I'm glad I came in.

Alamove over subway..these place gives you a large sandwich with gourmet ingredients, non-gourmet prices.  None of that 5 dollar footlong crap.
I'm talking avocado, pesto, roasted red peppers, fresh dutch crunch rolls, oven roased turkey, crispy apple bacon..ok, ok I'll stop, are you heading over there yet?

An urban density fan's delight.  Tucked in the basement of a Victorian off Alamo Square, this market (like so many others) employs a sandwich counter in hopes of drawing more business than just the bathrobe-clad neighbors dashing in for e-supplies.  Extra perks: memorable sandwich names and outrageously chill clerks whose slacker-banter is worthy of Linklater.  Napkins, bro?

Only problem is that the sandwiches themselves are too ho-hum.  For one, they're not very big, and they're a little conservative when it comes to loading up the toppings and spreads.  Granted, I don't like sandwiches to go supernova on me either, but the sandwich market is pretty competitive in this town, so you gotta push the french roll (er, envelope) a little bit to play in the big leagues.

This place's sign says it all.  Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact quote from the sign; and I'm too lazy to go downstairs, walk a block, write it down, walk back, and report to Yelp, so I'll paraphrase.  It's something like the best corner store not on the corner.  And it is.

This place is freaking cool.  I know San Francisco establishments are crammed into every kind of place, but how many garages of Victorians do you know that are corner stores that double as movie sets?  Apparently, the owners film movies in the back.  I don't know what kind and don't really want to know, but they've been here for awhile.

If you're at Alamo Square, which is just up the street, stop by this place and get a snack.

I found this place ranked in the Best of Yelp, so I had to try it.  The shop was located in a residential area below someone's house.  A bit on discrete side.  Most of the space is for their market with the sandwich counter called Ziggywiches in the corner.

SEATS: NO seats.  Takeout only.

SANDWICH ($4.75):  Good bread, good meat.  Most of all, I enjoyed the balance.  It had just the right amount of meat and the right amount of spread.  Sandwich did not fall apart when I bit in to it.  Why not a 5 Star deli?  Well, since they don't seem to prepare their own deli meat, they use packaged meat that you could get from Safeway.

Destination spot?  Nope.  This is a great neighborhood deli where many customers come here on foot.

Thanks for all of the nice reviews everyone!

My name is Joe and I work at Alamo Square, and I've always loved this place. I've worked here coming on four years and before then, I was a regular customer. I can safely say I eat a sandwich from here at least six days a week, which includes my days off (I can't get enough of them!) We have a very strong regular customer base, whether from the local neighborhood or wherever else, and that's always been the charm of the spot.

Stop on by if you want to pick up lunch, a quick snack, pet food, beer, wine, whatever. Or, hell, just drop in to talk baseball. After all, Eric's a big Sox fan, I'm a huge Giants fan, KP's a Buck-o's fan, and Adam's an Indians fan (sorry bud).

SEE YOU SOON! Call ahead of time, if you'd like.

My favorite local market!  The sandwiches are ALWAYS tasty, there a wonderful assortment of chips, and the coffee is the best in the neighborhood.
I agree with other yelpers that the music is pretty rocking and its always a great place to pick up milk, and booze without emptying your pocket book.
For a market in the Alamo Square they really honestly appreciate the business, unlike many of the other local places.
In fact, talking about them is making me want a sandwich.
Gotta run!

I adore this market!

They always have everything I need on a last minute whim... dog food, kitty litter, beer, wine, etc.  The coffee is delish in the morning, the magazine selection is surprisingly good and they always have a doggie water bowl outside - what more can I ask for?!?

Meanest corner store deli sandwich in the city, & the site of many short films by local filmmakers the Greenberg Brothers (Steve & Joe).

You can usually find Joe manning the counter, & he's always good for a laugh or a quick conversation about film (this kid knows his buddy cop flicks & gritty crime noir).

UPDATE 11.7.08: I've had Ike's a few times now and came to the conclusion today Alamo Square Deli is better. 7 or 8 sandwich choices and all are great and super fresh.

I just had the BBQ pork and coleslaw sandwich (special of the day on Tuesdays). MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. It tastes almost exactly like the ones I had at Stubs in Austin. So good. The sauce soaks into the bread just enough to not get your hands super messy.

The Zipity Bop is my next favorite (turkey & avocado-make sure you get it on dutch crunch).

It's the only corner store in the area that has all 3 kinds of It's-Its and Pellegrino always stocked.

My boyfriend likes the place because the guys that work there are always watching a baseball game and no one hesitates to talk about it.

Guys... what's going on here? Looks like everyone's amigos got together to slam 5-star reviews here.  I live in the 'hood and here's the scoop:

1 star because the place is really really cool - it's a tiny little joint in a basement, definitely a plus
1 star because they're very nice here.
1 star 'cause the sandwiches are indeed pretty good... but not *that* good!
Minus 1 because they pretty much only sell standard junk food and beer.  I'll take the beer, but wish they sold something useful and edible!
Minus 1 star for trying to rig Yelp

When I lived North Beach Palermo deli right by Union Square was my go to deli. The Italian combo quite simply was the best ever. Since moving to the Panhandle I have yet to find a deli to really hit the same level of perfection.
Alamo Square Market & Deli is off to a good start though. They have a good assortment of bread choices.  I asked for the italian combo on dutch crunch. The guy behind the counter did a good job. Unfortunately the sandwich was way to small. However the price was right, roughly $5.75 or so.
Ultimately a great place to grab a sando and head over to the park and enjoy the sunshine. Also they microwaved my girlfriends sandwich. Dude..no toaster? Whats up with that?
Sadly this is not my go to place but I would go back. I have yet to find Palermo quality in the hood. The search continues....

Sometimes i even call in as I'm walking the 3 blocks so it's ready right when i walk in. that way i dont have any delay to enjoying my lunch! Yummy!

This place had my approval as soon as I noticed a sandwich named for Ronnie James Dio. It's a great sandwich too, even if it's a little rough on the ol' ring coming out. I prefer The Conners. Staff are nice and fast. I just wish they'd name a sandwich after Rob Halford, perhaps sausage?

I'm from a small town, so perhaps my criterion for price is a bit unrealistic for the big city life, however, the sandwiches really aren't that cheap for the quality. They are, however, delicious, and I love the fact that they're named after rock stars. What could be better than to watch tourists ogle the Painted Ladies while devouring a "Dio". To eat one is to send your taste buds on a flight, straight to hell on the back of a winged tiger.

This is the corner store in the middle of the street - which has a good beer selection and pretty good rotation of stuff that sits dusty on other neighborhood stores.  I've found coconut milk, sweet vermouth, tahini - all produced in this century - great in a pinch.

The owners dont give me grief for buying budweiser in a can.  They are wicked nice and good to neighbors.  They make sandwiches to order, and you can get a pretty good picnic with a few bucks and some good banter to boot.

The sandwiches are assembled on normal sized bread and look like something you could whip up in your own kitchen. This just proves my theory that a sandwich always tastes better when made by someone else. Even if its by some big burly dude behind a counter. Nice little friendly corner market in the middle of the block. They carry all the essentials. On windy mornings at the dog park, a cup of their "Alamo Square Blend" coffee is magical. The only thing I don't get is the whole stupid Boston theme.  Doesn't make any sense.

We'd walked past this place a hundred times on the way to Alamo Square Park. We finally got a sandwich there yesterday. I got the "Zippity-Bob", a tribute to Diamond Dave (David Lee Roth). There was nothing out of the ordinary but in the best way possible. We're definitely getting a sandwich there next weekend when we go to ASP.

Where else can you get a sandwich that is named the Ziggy Bop, chat with the guy who makes it, while movie filming is going on in the back room.  Thats right, the Alamo Square market doubles as a movie set.  Maybe you have heard of the blockbuster hits "Banjo Blood Bath", "Roseanna", or the mega hit "The Legend of Squeaky McGee."?  Anyways, Eric and Joe are great and the sandwiches aint half bad either.

I've been meaning to go here for awhile and since I'm moving out of the hood (fortunately not too far away), I thought today would be a good day. Sandwiches are really cheap! Got my veggie sandwich with a drink for a grand total of $6.04. Not the biggest or most fantastic sandwich, but it did the trick. And I got to the use their ATM to get some sweet cash. Then I got to go sit outside and eat my meal in Alamo Square. Obviously the best part of this place is the location.
