Review from Danielle S.
Washington, DC
My husband booked the car online through Hotwire or something similar, and got a decent price.
The shuttle driver from the airport to the Alamo desk was pleasant and helpful with the luggage.
The counter staff (Kurt Heuer) at the Alamo desk was incredibly friendly and personable, explained our options, and we chatted about Denver, his experiences, our reason for being out, etc. It was really enjoyable.
One irritation was that because of the way our car was booked, it would cost another $10 per day to add me on as a second driver, so my husband had to drive the entire time. He said he was not notified of this when he booked, so we didn't take that option at the counter. Kind of annoying, but not Kurt's fault.
We got in around 9:30PM, so selecting a car was kind of a drag because although there are a lot of overhead lights, they don't really give much light. We had to pull out a flashlight to go over the car for scratches. The car itself was clean, taken care of other than the obvious minute exterior issues.
The man at the exit gate was friendly and pleasant.
Overall, the experience was good, easy, and I'd be happy to rent with Alamo again. -

Talk about NIGHT and DAY!
I rented a car through hotwire and since I'm not from the area I called their branch to get some advice on whether or not I should upgrade to an SUV. First of all I waited 20 minutes to get through then the woman who answered the phone was completely monotone with a touch of "I don't give a f---". She wasn't helpful at all and was very unwilling to help. I was very willing to upgrade but she didn't even want to tell me the first steps on how to do so. It basically got to the point where I asked her, "So is there anything I can do?" Then there was a looooong pause before she said, "Call hotwire."
I called at night PST. People seem to have bad reviews for the night shift. I was seriously so PISSED off about this and was about to give this place a 1 star.
HOWEVER...
I arrived in Denver a week later in the morning and everyone was SOOOOO NICE!! I was blown away!!! Was this really the same place I had called?!?!!!?!?!
I'm going to give this place 3 stars because my interaction was a 1 and when I actually got there it was a 5 star experience.
How weird. -

These bastards charged me a $10 "admin fee" for my toll on the toll road.
For those who don't know, the toll road here doesn't have booths. They photograph your license plate then send you a bill. That is how it works for everyone.
Well, a few months after my trip Alamo sent me a letter informing me that they would asses an additional ten dollar "admin fee". There was no way around this.
I had the last laugh, because I got the credit card company to reverse the charges then I closed out the card. If Alamo wants that money, they'll have to sue me.
I hate the people at Alamo. -

Worst rental car experience I've ever had. They tried to charge us for an extra day two different times, once when we picked up the car and once when we dropped it off. Also, they double charged us for the whole reservation. We had pre-paid when we booked but when we dropped off the car they said we hadn't paid yet, so they charged us again. It was extremely difficult to get the second charge reversed. I'll never book with them again.

Used in February, 2009. March, 2010.
You'll need to take a five-minute shuttle ride to get here (along with nearly every other rental car agency at DEN), but it's a free shuttle that comes frequently.
This Alamo is less friendly than the others I've been at, and the late-night staff needs to cut down on the valium intake. When you go out for a car, you're allowed to pick anything from the lot that falls within the class of car you've rented. Most cars are about the same, but it's nice to be able to check if there's folding down rear seats, etc.
Being in Denver, they offer ski racks but charge $10/day for them. That kinda sucks, so beware. -

If you are looking for honesty and no surprise charge, this place is not the place for you. We rent a car from alamo this feb to go ski at keystone. The sales lady was super nice, telling us about ski resorts, and tried to sell us to get a bigger car, and tried to sell us to do pre-pay gas, different type of insurance etc... Since we are out of town, she told us that it would take us more than a whole tank of gas to go up and down the mountain ( keep in mind we rent a toyota corolla, keystone was an hour away). she told us we would be better off to do prepay gas since there is no cheaper gas within 11 miles radius from airport. She charged us up front for ~ $50 for prepay (a tank) gas, by the time we end our trip, we only use 1/3 of a tank for the whole 3 day trip. By the time we checked out, They charge us another $15 (they did not tell me, i had to ask. they just give me the simular invoice, most people would think it is the same invoice you received ealier but, pay attention to your bill, that is when they get you!!!!!) $15 was also for the gas since the tank she charged us was based on 12 gal tank. The car we got has bigger tank ---- keep in mind we are still talking about the same car --- toyota corolla. We end up paying $50+$15 = $65 for 1/3 tank of gas. That is just riduculous!!! BTW the gas elsewhere per gallon are a lot cheaper than theirs. Personally, i dont mind if they charge more money, but i just wish they are upfront about it. They are taking advantage of the fact that people are always in the rush to get to/from the airport. For most of their customers they are travelers which they would not come back to denver anytime soon, but for us, i would be back, but they will not get my business in the future.
