We visited here again last night and as always everything was perfect. Love this place. I just wish they were closer to my home.

Review from Anthony R.
Silicon Valley
Since I live about 2 minutes from Alamo Square, I was excited to have a Chinese place so near by.
So goes the happy thoughts :(
I arrived with anticipation, but was let down fairly quickly.
We kept the ordering basic and simple since it was our first time visiting.
Here are the details:
-Hot tea came out quickly (plus)
-The place was clean and inviting (plus)
-The service was quick and friendly (plus)
-The white rice was standard fare (as expected)
-The deep fried prawns were very greasy (negative)
-The vegetable chow-mein was soggy and gross (negative)
-The walnut glazed chicken was decent (just OK)
-They brought out some very sweet cut up Orange slices for dessert (good!)
At the end the waitress asked if we wanted a doggie bag for the left overs, and I said we would pass. She looked surprised and asked yet again. I said no once more, and she walked away with a confused look on her face.
She obviously picked up on my disappointment and body language.
Anyone who knows good Chinese food would not give Alamo Palace a good review. Unfortunatley, I will not be returning and will continue my quest for good Chinese food in nearby Danville.
Even my 13 year old Daughter said that our dinner was bad, so my opinion was somewhat validated.
(I wish I could have given this place even a three star rating since it is so close to my house. I was actually borderline giving it a one star but the service saved them via a two star rating). -

Solid chinese food. Here's an overview:
Pros:
-prompt service
-water glass never empty
-quick food delivery
-super yummy mu shu pork (will gladly order again)
-offered to split our checks, yahoo!
Neutral:
-brought tea out right away (tea definitely needs to be hotter!)
-our request for light sauce on the pinepple chicken was anything but... still enjoyed the dish but would've been better if our request happened
Cons:
-tomato beef chow mein is disappointing and i was SO looking forward to this since the table never had it before...damn!
-while prompt, service could be friendlier (She seemed to grow impatient at our ordering/questioning.) -

Came here last Friday - the service wasn't great, but the food was. Brought home plenty of leftovers!
I will likely be going back some time -

I don't frequent this area, but I have eaten her a coupld of times when I worked in Walnut Creek. Their food is pretty average, can't complain. A co-worker ordered the same thing when we came here so I'm basing my review off of these two dishes. We ordered the chicken and snow peas and combination chow mein hong kong stylem, both were very good, I would definitely go back for those dishes will have to try others if ever in the neighborhood.

The salt and pepper pork here is delicious. The food comes in very hearty portions so order accordingly. The honey walnut prawns are also very good. This restaurant was just something we stumbled onto on a night when we were in the area and very hungry. We have since made ourselves available in the area specifically to go there. Good prices for the quality and quantity of food.

Alamo Palace has been around since I was in High School (and that was a long time ago). They serve good, solid Chinese food here.
Personal favorites include honey walnut prawns and spicy eggplant. Dry sauteed green beans are good, but I like them spicier. They serve brown rice here, which is great. Not too many Chinese restaurants do. Get on the ball, people!
I was not so fond of the mixed vegetables and the mu shu. Both could have used more flavor. Still, I ate plenty of each.
Alamo Palace does a lot of takeout business. On busy nights, the kitchen can get pretty backed up. Be prepared to wait a bit. -

My all time favorite Chinese restaurant
I've been coming here since I was a little kid, whenever my family would order takeout this was our top choice. I normally prefer Thai and Japanese food to Chinese food, but Alamo Palace is a major exception. Everything you order here is always fresh and delicious. The portions are huge and everything is reasonably priced.
Favorites:
Mu shu pork
Assorted appetizer
Pot stickers: definitely the best pot stickers in the area!
Deluxe chow mein
Honey walnut prawns
The service here can be slow at times, but it is always extremely friendly. Alamo Palace is a great family run restaurant that serves excellent food that never disappoints, definitely worth trying out! -
Review from laura w.
I was pleasantly surprised to find such good chinese food in this area. The chow mein wasn't oily, the meats were not "fatty" and the veggies were all crisp and plentiful.
The portions are HUGE. I ordered chow mein and beef with broccoli and I couldn't finish the content of the containers in a few days. I felt bad throwing food away but it was nice to feel like I got my moneys worth.
I would highly recommend Alamo Palace for take out, but I haven't dined in their restaurant. It's my new favorite chinese food place in the Danville area! -

They have been at this location for awhile. My last visit was in 2000 when I worked nearby.
Fast forward 10 years, the place looks the same.
I was never fond of their large fried won tons that they serve with the sweet sauce and mustard, but must admit their lunch menu is a good price with soup, egg roll and entre for $8.50 served Mon-Sat. Service was good and the portions are generous.
Minus one star for bringing the soup before our drinks and another star for bringing the tab before we finished eating our meal. What's the rush as the place was only half full? -

This restaurant has been here even before I moved to Alamo, and it's always been a great spot for a nice dinner. Their consistency keeps locals, regulars, and me coming back for more.
The staff is friendly and accommodating to specifications on the food. Admittedly, I am a very picky eater. And being of Chinese origin, I wouldn't regularly go for Americanized Chinese food but Alamo Palace's food tastes great. Not spectacular, but convenient and an easy choice when I can't make up my mind where to go.
Prices are standard for their quality and quantity.
The food I usually order:
- Sizzling rice soup
- Szechuan shrimp or chicken
- Singaporean stir-fried vermicelli noodles
- Eggplant and beef -

Nothing to write home about, but this place has always had a good steady flow of business the times I've visited. Like most Chinese food it's a bit pricey but the portions are mamoth even for family-style eating. My friend and I always order hot sake (yes, we know that's Japanese) and whatever brand they serve is delicious! The sizzling rice soup is also very tastey and the small order is more than enough for two people.
Service is always very friendly but not always super quick so plan ahead if you have plans after your meal. -
Review from J T.
Expensive and bland chinese food. I got the deluxe fried rice which cost me over $8 after tax. There was a TON of food and the rice was soft and a bit mushy which is the way I usually like it...but, man...no flavor.
Should have gotten the hint when I walked in and I was the only Asian that wasn't working there. -

I grew up in the Bay Area, and my best friend lives right around the corner from this place. Now that we live in SoCal, every time we go home to visit our families, we make sure to make a stop here for food, and to order some dishes to take back with us.
I feel like the food is certainly solid above-average typical Americanized Chinese food, but nothing terribly fancy. (I have the feeling my parents wouldn't think much of the place - if they want good Asian food, we hit up places by the 99 Ranch in Milpitas or head to Chinatown in Oakland.) Prices are pretty decent, though there isn't much competition for Chinese food restaurants in the area.
This past weekend, we had the Hot and Sour Soup, which had a lot of great additions - spinach and chicken and pork bits that made for a very satisfying well loaded soup. I had the Black Bean Chicken and my best friend had her standby, the Eggplant with Chicken. She is a picky orderer, and they are always very good at complying with her requests. The flavors were all very good, and not too strong - I find a lot of places overdo the sauces, and here they keep things more on the lighter side. Our other roommate likes their combination fried rice because it isn't drenched in soy sauce like you might find elsewhere.
At the end of the meal, they brought out oranges and fortune cookies.
We dined in and sat in one of their booths - we both felt the table was just a bit too far away from the seats, but the cushions were very comfy and still firm, like new. Well lit, casual-classy (not too gaudy as some chinese places risk falling victim to), and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We've done take out before, and have had no problems, and I know my best friend and her family frequent this place a lot - they've tried pretty much all the dishes, and have no complaints about any of them. -

Very good, fresh and traditional American-Chinese food! We love the walnut prawns and Sesame chicken. We usually do take out, but dining in has always been a good experience. Casual and kid friendly.

It's not Chinatown good but definately good enough to keep ordering from in Alamo! Ownership has never changed and they are always friendly! Best freshly made everyday Potstickers (not frozen), Hot & Sour Soup, and Honey Walnut Prawns!

I have been eating chinese food from here for as long as I can remember. Whenever it was takeout night for the family, this is where we would get our meal.
The Hong Kong style chow mein, mu shu pork, shrimp with eggplant, won ton soup, mmmmm, all sooo good..... the list goes on and on.
They also have a great lunch special that includes soup, rice, tea, and an entree for under $10....
I think I'm going to go there right now.... -

This is the best chinese food I've ever found! I try to go other places closer to my house but I always end up going back to Alamo Palace. It's very fresh tasting and not greasy. The staff is always very friendly and quick whether we do take out or eat in. The tea is awesome too!
Everyone I know in the area thinks this place is the best! -

Found this place when we moved to Alamo 26 years ago and have been thrilled with their food and staff ever since. It really is the best Chinese restaurant at least in the San Ramon Valley of not the whole area! Favorite has always been the Mongolian Beef....so tender and flavorful.

Review from Tak N.
Discovery Bay, CA
The food is usually pretty good, but the wait time on pick up orders is long. They always tell me it will be 20 minutes, but whether I leave right away or 15 minutes after I place my order, I end up waiting at least another 15 minutes when I get there. I think they're not honest about time because they're afraid of losing the business.
The last order took them over 45 minutes to prepare (I think they forgot about my order until I showed up). I told them I was unhappy with the wait and all they did was tell me it would be a little longer. They really should have comped me egg rolls or soup or something.
I understand restaurants get busy, but they should just tell customers it will take longer than average when they're behind. Now I go to the chinese restaurant across the street more often because the food is similar enough and I can trust the time estimates provided. -

My boyfriend loves going out for Chinese, and seeing as how he was raised in the area we tend to go a lot. The hot and sour soup is just so-so. Maybe another soup is better? I haven't tried. The honey walnut prawns are delicious! And the mushu chicken, om nom nom nom. I also really like their green bean chicken, it's got a nice sauce all over it. The place looks a little outdated, and service is sometimes slow even when almost no one is in the restaurant, but it's worth the wait for the food.

What a SURPRISE. Living in Alamo & wanting to get a quick bite to eat means Subway, TacoBell or Hi-Tech Burrito. Having lived here 3 years almost & driven by this Chinese restaurant countless times (right by my bank - BOA), I never gave this place a chance. After countless Subway & Hi-Tech burrito runs, it was time to give this place a try & boy-O-bo I am glad I did. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch special. Friendly staff, clean place too but in need of an update to decor. Out came the Hot N Sour soup. I generally do not like Hot N Sour soup anywhere. Even when people say its excellent, I try it but dont like it. Over here, it was GOOD. Not great but good. Thats huge & a start for what to expect. Next came the Spring Rolls. Again Im not a big fan but these were nice, freshly made, not too oily & I ate the whole thing. Ask my wife & she will tell you I just wait for the meat & rice. The spring roll didnt taste like it was made in the morning & re-heated n served. So far I am impressed. Out comes my food & my special order CHILLI sauce. Normally you get Siracha. Here I got like a house special sauce & it was good. The Mongolian Beef was very good. Very light, very easy to chew & full of taste. I even ate the onions & green stuff in the plate. It was all very good. I am a FAN. I also love my deserts & not that I was going to order anything but out came my Fortune Cookie (fresh n crispy n yummy) & 2 slices of Orange & a Lettuce leaf. The Orange was sweet & a perfect end of the meal. I didnt try the lettuce leaf but with how everything was - Im sure it would have been great. This outing has guaranteed that I will be going back & that too with friends & family. Did I say I paid $8.75 with Tax for my meal :)

This was my family's go-to spot for special occasions when we lived in Alamo in the mid-1980s (yes I'm that old). Alamo Palace was always friendly--food was great. We'd love the chance to revisit those days.

I have been dinning here or picking up for(gosh it seems like 20 years). The food has been above average and the service is pretty darn good as well. They have never messed up my to go orders. If you want some good quality Chineese food in a quaint environment(VS PF Chang's) check this place out. Great Kun Poa Chicken(I don't know how to spell it).

Walnut Creek, CA
I have only gotten take out from this place and so far it's been great. We just moved into our home admist a remodel, so we had no kitchen for a while so take out was a necessity. I haven't set foot in the restaurant as my husband picks it up so I can't tell you about the decor or atmosphere. What I can tell you is that it is quick, modestly priced and very good. The best is their mandarin ginger chicken. It is deep fried, but the sauce and the crunch of the chicken is awesome. So far we have tried that dish, the string bean chicken, chicken chow fun and the mu shu pork and all were tasty. For the chicken chow fun, which is a thick flat rice noodle, I ordered it "dry style" which I think has more flavor than with a sauce which is normally how Alamo Palace prepares the dish. They do a good job.

I would if I could help it never go to another Chinese food place besides this one. Their food is fresher, not as oily and taste wonderful. The lunch special is so good and has so much food for a low price you can't possibly finish it! Well, I suppose one good but as a girl, I can't finish it. I go mostly every week. Some of my coworkers in Concord drive all the way to Alamo to eat there! Friendly service, timely production, what more can you ask for?

Alamo, CA
Pretty good food. Believe it or not, it is better to get food to-go form this place; it is your best bet to get all your food steaming hot at one time.
The Crispy Sesame Chicken is excellent, and the Vegetable Mu Shu is great. The Chow Mein has skinny, sometimes dry noodles.
Eating in house will not bring good service. The service is always with a smile, but really sporadic. Don't expect your water to be filled, or even ti be visited once the food arrives. All in all, worth it if you need a Chinese food fix to-go. -

Alamo, CA
Eat take out regularly. Been eating here for years. The food is 3 stars, but they offer large quantities at reasonable prices, so get bumped to a weak 4. The rice is almost inedible for my tastes. I like the pot stickers, the hot and sour soup, and the mongolian beef.
They do a brisk take out biz and despite their standard "ready in 20 minutes", you're better off to expect 30minutes, particularly in prime time. -

The best Asian food we have ever had!! We have been eating here for years. They are veery consistent. The service is great. The food is fresh.
Great portions for the money.
We have tried almost everything on the menu and it's all excellent!! -

Walnut Creek, CA
Pretty standard fare, but I think it's better than any other Chinese restaurant within a 5 mile radius or so. If it there were other good Chinese restaurants around I would probably only give it 3 stars. None the less, I like the place. Their Mongolian Beef and dry sauteed string beans are good. They must make a killing on take-out. I swear it must account for 2/3rds of their business (and all of my business). Decor is typical strip mall Chinese restaurant.
