AMAZING!
PROS:
-great beer selection (about $5 a pint)
-If some A-hole is running their mouth durning the movie, they get one warning, after that they get ejected!
-pretty good food.
CON:
-it's in Winchester. -

This is arguably the coolest movie theater ever created!
I think the food is a little bit overpriced for the quality you get, but most other theaters just can't beat their ticket prices, film selections, special retro/current screenings, and the overall movie-going experience.
It has earned 4.75 movie stars! -

This place is amazing! Drove all the way from the DC area, but the Alamo is definitely worth it. My boyfriend and I attended the showing of the Princess Bride Quote-Along and Feast. Fantastic. So much fun. The staff is super friendly and funny. The whole experience was enjoyable. They even had preshow entertainment with audience participation. A real battle of the wits with a bottle of wine. Princess Bride fans rejoice! The feast was the best part, though. A full 4 course meal. And, a glass of wine with every course! The food was really good, not bar food quality at all. Here's the menu, totally PB themed, of course:
MLT - Smoked Mutton sliced paper thin and piled high on grilled rustic bread with roast tomato, argula and truffle aioli (paired with Steininger Young Blend)
Screeching Eel Salad - Crispy eel in a brown ale glaze on local greens, pickled carrots with blood orange vinaigrette (paired with As you Wish White! Alamo's own PB wine! You could even buy a bottle for home!)
Seared R.O.U.S. - Seared NY strip rubbed with telecherry peppercorn, mustard seed and espresso roasted medium rare in a pool of port demi, roast enoki mushrooms with mushroom risotto and grilled rapini (paired with Inconceivable Cab, another Alamo PB wine)
Twue Wuv Twuffles - Two miracle pill-sized dark chocolate truffles rolled in cocoa nibs and caramel crisp with peanut creme and candied strawberries (paired with Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico)
There was never a moment when I wasn't drinking or eating something. It truly was a feast! On top of all this, there was the fun of the quote along: play swordfights, ringing a bell every time true love was mentioned, yelling out inconceivable!, blowing bubbles, etc, etc. Fun, fun, fun.
Lastly, all of this for only around $50. Good deal, right? I can't say enough about this place. I highly, highly, highly recommend! -

This was my second time at a dine-in theater. First, no one checked our tickets which was a little bit weird but then we go to the actual theater and because there was no assigned seating (unlike, say, amc) it was almost chaotic. Our server had no "inside voice" even after the movie had started. But beyond that, the food was decent and reasonably priced an the seats were comfortable.

Is the food overpriced? Yeah, it is. However, compare it to the price you'd pay at Regal in Martinsburg or any other theater in the area and you're getting a helluva deal.
Do everyone a favor if you're going to go here...show up early!! I don't mean 5 minutes early but at least 30 minutes early so I don't have to hear you asking the waiter how to place an order while I'm trying to watch the movie. -

Alamo Drafthouse keeps on getting better. This past Wednesday Alamo had as a guest speaker Tuskegee Airman Mr. Elvin E. Thomas before the screening of Red Tails. A huge thanks to Alamo for making this possible, and an even bigger thanks to Mr. Thomas. My 9 year old son was thrilled to meet a true American hero. Then followed by the movie help put everything into prospective.
It would be great to repeat the event as an exclusive matinee for the local schools.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Review from Alan Y.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was easily the best place I have ever taken in a flick. Not only did we get to watch one of my favorite action movie franchises (Mission Impossible) but we also were able to enjoy really good pub food without sneaking it in using one of my wife's insanely cavernous handbags. My wife had the cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate beer of some sort (clearly I'm not a beer connoisseur) and I ordered the hamburger, fries, HOT chocolate chip cookies and vanilla milkshake. Our food totaled close to $50 but luckily we paid the $7 student price for our tickets so we didn't get hosed both ways.
Pros - prompt service, newly released movies, comfy chairs
Cons - GET THERE EARLY or you'll be trying to eat your food without choking because your neck will be cricked watching the screen from the first row (we learned the hard way)
Despite its distance from our home in DC, we will definitely return to the Alamo. And oh yeah...don't talk during the movie. They're REALLY REALLY serious about it. -

First time here. Didn't know what to expect because in NJ we had a theater complex with dining in the lobby area, but food and drink were served at your seat. Large comfy chairs. Only about 10 rows, so every seat in the house was good and unobstructed.
Good pub grub menu (burgers, chicken wings, etc.) and wide selection of beers and wine.
Tickete prices beat the other chains (Regal, AMC). $7 for matinee, $10 after 6 PM. -

Movie theater plus bar plus restaurant, all in one. The combination has so much room for error, and yet delivers on every facet...with authority.
This place is a straight up world class establishment. The theater is clean, the seats are luxurious, the food is decent and, most importantly, the beer selection is fantastic. I would pay double the admission of other, more conventional movie theaters and yet tickets are actually cheaper here! Nine dollars for adults and seven for students. And I'll give you a hint: buy your tickets online and we're all "students."
Without question, this is the greatest movie experience in the nation and, possibly, the world. My only wish is that they open up more locations across the country so it is more easily accessible. -

Review from Rodney W.
I visited the Alamo recently and being from Ohio, this is a new concept to me - dinner and a movie. The only dinner and a movie establishment failed miserably at Parmatown Mall years ago. Anyway, we waited in line for about 15 minutes before we were allowed in the theater...it would have been 30 minutes if we didn't buy our tickets on-line.
The theater has thin bar-like tables in front of the leather chairs which your food and drinks rest on while you're watching the movie. Unfortunately, the cups block your view, if you're shorter than about 6'. Also, the bright stair lights for the servers can be annoying if you sit near the end of a row, like me.
The 3-D glasses had a glare inside because I wear prescription glasses under them. This doesn't happen at Cinnemark.
The food was average and the popcorn was okay. I had the buffalo chicken wrap and it was pretty good, could've used some more buff sauce.
It's pretty cool that you can buy beer, but buying a Growler seems so expensive. It's like $40 to buy the Growler full of your favorite beer. Then it's $20 to fill it up subsequently. You can take your Growler to other establishments and have it filled up, I hear. I doubt that I'll ever drink $20 worth of beer in one sitting, so I don't see the benefit here.
It was $54 plus tip for my wife and I to see Transformers in 3-D. Not worth it. I'll stick with a traditional, dark, non-view-hindering, premium picture and sound theater like Cinnemark. -
Review from Jenn K.
I love this place! Far better than the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse. I was surprised how good the food was here-much better than expected and they have a ton of drink choices, something for everyone...even mixed drinks for girls like me! The prices are cheap for everything on the menu so that definitely sweetens the deal. I also like that they have themed movie nights, not just your typical hollywood films: horror remix, girl's nights, b-film showings, etc. Can't wait to go back!

Review from Ron W.
What to do on Christmas day after all the presents have been opened and you're waiting for dins?! Go watch a movie!
And that's where Alamo Drafthouse comes into the picture. A lovely new movie theater over in Winchester, Alamo Drafthouse does movies right. Step inside and you'll see a large bar and hi-boys in the lobby, plenty of great beers on tap. Inside the theater, seats are spacious with a small table/ledge running in front of them. Order up whatever your heart desires and get full-on wait service. There's lots of space between rows for the waitstaff to reach you which means extra legroom for movie patrons. The movie-watching experience is great all-around!
We took it easy today food-wise with a bowl of popcorn and chili-cheese fries but the fries were awesome! Crunchy with just the right amount of spicy chili, dee-licious... Sort of challenging trying to eat them in the dark, I made a mess of things! And a Shiner Bock completed the movie snacks. Order up more food by filling out a slip of paper and propping it up on the rail, last call is 45 minutes before movie's end. Too bad that Tron Legacy: 3D sorta sucked but that's not Alamo Drafthouse's fault.
And they take the movie-watching experience seriously here with an on-screen warning to not talk or you may be kicked out (if someone else complains)... Yeah, a bit severe but there are some peeps that need this warning! Overall I like what they're doing here and wish we had one in NC. There's nothing like a primo movie experience with good food and cocktails, enjoy it Winchester! -

I went here recently to see Super 8, as the theater we normally go to in Fredricksburg wasn't showing the film.
The whole experience was alright. They get bonus points for their beer selection and the concept of eating during dinner. They get negative points for somewhat subpar food (I had the fish and chips, which was somewhat difficult to eat in the dark with no fork) and some of the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in in a theater. I'm not sure what exactly was wrong, they should have been comfortable, but by the time the movie was over, both my SO and I had pretty bad backaches. -

Before we moved to Winchester, we'd drive the hour to go to this place. It's that good! The prices for both the food and the movie are reasonable, they have their own craft brews, the seats are comfy and they don't bombard you with advertising!
Additionally, the Alamo tries to come up with a variety of events and matinées to serve all ages and tastes, from the classic The Wizard of Oz to the cult Dark Side of the Rainbow. Sing-alongs, Japanese television, breakfast with cartoons - the cover the gamut.
If you live within a reasonable distance of the place, you have no excuse to go anywhere but here.Listed in: Places in the DC Area Worth…

Its great to kill 2 birds with 1 stone! Who needs to go eat and THEN watch a movie when you can so both!
I love the catchy names for some of the dishes like "Kevin Bacon Lettuce and Tomato" or the "Five Dollar Milkshake" (which is really $5)... The ice cream and warm chocolate chip cookies are amazing! -

I don't know why you would ever go to another theater! The ticket prices are very reasonable, the seats are comfy and there is BOOZE&FOOD!
We hit up an afternoon matinee so our order was small: Dt Coke, popcorn, and the artichoke dip. The dip could have been heated better, but I didn't really mind. My Shock top came with an orange slice. :) -
Review from Diana C.
I went out here recently to see some previews & shorts for the Spooky Movie Festival. It's kind of a haul from me (about 80 miles away!), but I was overall really impressed with the place.
The waitstaff was really friendly and helpful. The food was pretty good. It's always refreshing to have actual food choices on the menu apart from popcorn and questionable "nachos" and mummified hot dogs. I was recovering from the flu, so I didn't get to partake in the extensive beer menu, but perhaps another time.
The atmosphere is pretty laid back and fun. Since it's not just a theater but also a bar/restaurant, people talk amongst themselves. There were a few horror movie remixes and everyone yelled things out, made fun of the movie, and laughed.
It really made me want to go back and see other things there, despite the 1.5 hour journey west. -
Review from Cheryl B.

The concept of food/drinks while watching a movie is good +1 star....but execution is always the challenge. We wanted to just see what all the hub-bub was about for the movie Avatar and figured this would be the place to see it - especially if it sucked - hoping the beer would help alleviate the pain.
The location is down 81 a bit south of Winchester, about 35 min from us in the 20141. We are used to heading into DC, so travel time was nothing compared to that type of trip. We got our tickets online, but it only provided a receipt - that meant we had to stand in the lines in the bitter cold wind to get the actual paper ticket, bad - 1 star! Can you say FANDANGO??
Once inside there wasn't anyone to guide you so we just looked for our theater number and avoided the trays of food and beverages fleeting past us on our way. Once inside its basically stadium seating with a counter big enough to hold your food and drinks in front of you. The seats are stationery and are a bit low so my first concern was being able to view that movie unobstructed. -1 star for the inconvenience.
We jotted down our order on a piece of paper provided at our seats, thank goodness I had a pen or that wouldn't have happened! At least 2 servers went by delivering food and finally one picked it up. The movie started and about 10 min into it we got our beer, another 5 min or so and I got my popcorn with butter - OMG it was stone cold and the butter was like someone poured water in the middle of my popcorn bowl - NOT GOOD -1 star! My husband got the potato skins and I tried one - umm, methinks not ever again, nuf said.
Monday night is 1/2 price pizza night and the ones going by appeared to be warm and smelled good....perhaps the trick here is to go with the "special" of the day to get something decent. The beer was cold thankfully and that was a good thing +1 star.
I think this would be a fun place to bring kids during the day or early afternoon because they would enjoy the experience of eating/drinking and being waited on during a show. For me....I'll keep going to Brambleton for full on stadium seats that are not only comfy but you can rock them back a bit.....I can always get my beer after the show!
As far as the movie - well its a giant cartoon, some cool moments and decent 3-D effects - but not my thing as a whole.Comment from Stephen N. of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema 2/28/2010

Very pleased that the Winchester area has a movie theater like this. The atmosphere is great and the chairs are definitely more comfortable than anywhere else in Winchester. When one of the films malfunctioned, they promptly gave us free movie passes for our inconvenience.

ADC had been open about three weeks when we first went to check it out. The food and drink selection was VERY good, I had a couple of beers and Becky had the frozen lemonade. We also tried the Chicago hotdogs w/fries. The dogs were good but just not up to Chicago standards. My biggest let down was the amount of time it took to get the food. We were in the theater 30 min's early, when they opened it and yet we didn't get food until 15 min's into the movie. I'm sure they are working out the kinks... Picture and sound quality was very good.
Wasn't crazy about the seats, but MUCH better than anything around.

I don't go out to movies much lately, but come All Hallows Eve and I still hadn't seen Zombieland... it was time. So after grabbing a bite at the Outback (and quailing somewhat at the sight of a VERY convincing Albus Dumbledore ordering another Miller Lite), Katy and I hit the new boozecinema for a drink and some undead action.
I've been to a few moviepubs here and there; the Arlington Cinema Drafthouse, Old Town Theater in Alexandria, the Baghdad in Portland, the Bear Tooth in Anchorage -- and the Alamo stacked up pretty well against the group.
They had a good selection on tap, from Yeungling to Dogfish to Dos Equis; but no mixed drinks to speak of (unless you're into pre-mixed Margaritas from a jug). The dinner menu was pretty full, and I'd try a burger if I went back, (the one our neighbors had looked pretty good) but since we had already eaten we only ordered drinks and a basket of mozzarella sticks. Good sticks, though. (You have to enjoy the little things.)
And the waitstaff was very good at doing their job without interrupting the movie. Some others I've been to (Arlington comes to mind) you hear a lot of jabber and see a lot of big fat heads as the servers huff and puff up and down the aisles. Not that I'm unsympathetic, I was a waiter once myself. You really got to be fit.
Which brings me back to rule number one: Cardio. -

Great place to watch a movie, but to eat I would just go somewhere else. You'll pay the same at another restaurant and have better food/service. The food always comes out at different times, sometimes wrong, and the service is very slow. The beer selection is great and prices on pitchers is pretty good. We go here often to drink and catch a movie, but we will eat somewhere else from now on

This is the second drafthouse cinema I've been to, and it blows the one in Arlington, VA out of the water. Great parking, Building is very clean and nice-looking, both inside and out. Very professional and helpful staff. Very good menu selection, food, and craft brews. Very nice theater. It's an hour away from me, but I'll definitely be back!

We went for a matinee to see Alice in Wonderland and had a great time. The food was pretty good and I love the idea of being waited on while watching the movie.
I especially liked the seating because the way it is set up there is no problem with trying to look over or between the heads of folks in front.
Sound was good...not deafening like a lot of theaters now.

This is the best draft house cinema we have been to! There is a bar in the lobby which is cool. The menu is pretty good compared to other cinemas that serve food. The service was great. We went there to see the last Harry Pottery movie, and they served "butter beer" and a themed dessert which we were really excited about. We will definitely be back again!

Certainly the best theater in the Winchester area, the Alamo is a great place to watch any movie. They even serve food and drinks, which no other theater in the area does. The calzone I had was good, but the sweet tea tasted like they poured some unknown chemical into it. I would certainly recommend it though.

Went with my family over the holidays to catch a flick and drink some beers, yes all at the same time! I really enjoyed the whole concept of this place. You walk into stadium like seating which has a bench-like table in front of you. You then watch the most obscure previews and advertisements ever! Then you look from there pretty decent selection of food and beers and write your order on a piece of paper and the waitstaff picks it up. It s great We only got popcorn and french fries and some beers but what we had was pretty decent. It did take a little longer then expected for the food portion to come out but the staff was great and again I loved being able to drink and eat while watching the movie! Wish there was a place like this in Philly!

I love this concept and I think they execute it pretty well here. The Alamo has an awesome beer selection. The food menu felt a little limited but there were decent choices. We got the fried pickles, Cobb salad, and Wild at Artichoke Heart pizza. The pickles were great. The only so-so part was the Ranch dressing, which was thin. The salad was only OK, and again the dressing was thin. However, the pizza was a home run. One improvement I would suggest would be to offer doggie bags because we had to leave some pizza behind and were sad about that. We saw Let Me In and loved that the theater showed a bunch of vampire-related shorts before the feature.

My boyfriend and I went to Alamo for the first time last night. We're new to Winchester and wanted to see a movie and check out the beer selection, which they are known for! The bartender was very knowledgable and helpful. We were able to enjoy a few beers and eat some appetizers before going into the movie. We had hummus, fried pickles and poppers, all were pretty good, or what you'd expect for a theatre/pub. Once in the theater, the service was fast, and overall I thought it was a good time! We will definitely go back the next time we're out for a movie!

We went here this weekend finally to catch a movie. Overall a nice experience. They have quite an extensive menu from appetizers, to burgers and pizzas. They also had a large selection of alcoholic drinks. The seats were comfortable and the staff didn't obstruct the view of the movie. I tried the pizza which was good, although pricey, and my wife had the burger which she also said was good, but messy, especially in the dark. If you wanted a refill, something else to eat or drink, you simply wrote down what you wanted on a piece of paper and they came by to pick it up. There is a dim light under the table if you need to look at the menu. I liked their policy regarding talking and cell phones. They stated even texting was considered talking. If you felt someone was bothersome, you could just write it on a piece of paper and the staff would pick up the paper. Another thing I did like is that they sometimes show older movies for very cheap. I believe they are going to show Elf for $1 as well as several other Christmas movies. It's a nice theater and we will probably go back.
