If i had the time, I would eat here everyday, for the rest of my life.

I think the ONLY issue about this place is the space, but honestly, it's always packed for a reason. The food is ABSOLUTELY amazing, and I find myself craving for their Home Fries at least every other day. The ladies that work here are so sweet and I absolutely love them.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are packed, so be cautious.

Randy's Special and an extra helping of Home Fries - best breakfast ever.

    :)

I had breakfast here and liked it.

They had a French Toast special that included the following:

4 slices of big french toast-
    3 strips of hearty bacon-
    1 egg over medium
    2 cups of coffee-

It is not a fancy over the top cafe, but a good solid breakfast that totalled $7.50 (not including the coffee).

Total for two people was $23.67 including the tip ($11.84 each out the door).
The bacon was high quality, the french toast was flavorful, and the coffee was good.

If you are looking for a no-frills yet solid good old fashioned breakfast, then I suggest dropping in at the Alamo Cafe.

Good solid breakfast in a diner setting.  We sat at the bar and watched the food being made.  Real skill at the grill.  Good coffee, fresh orange juice, eggs made exactly the way I asked for them, yummy potatoes.  Can't find fault at all.

I ate here yesterday for the first time in years.  A lot of places like this aren't vegetarian-friendly, but they do have veggie burgers.  I, however, was in the mood for breakfast at late lunchtime.

I got 2 blueberry pancakes and home fries.  The pancakes were superb and 2 was more than plenty.  They're very big.  The home fries were probably the best I ever had and it was a HUGE portion.

Our new breakfast place!  We were looking for a breakfast spot and are so tired of mediocre so I went on Yelp to search out a new place.  After seeing all the boring ones, came across Alamo Cafe and decided to go.  We waited about 10 minutes for a seat at the counter and it reminded us of Faye's Dinky Diner in Wisconsin.  I opted for bacon, eggs and potatoes and could not have been better if I'd made it myself.  My son had the breakfast sandwich and the look on his face as he was eating the last half was priceless.  I haven't seen him eat that slowly in forever!  It was very reasonably priced and we'll become regulars.  Finally somewhere worth going out for breakfast.

I've been here for breakfast several times and it's always great. I always say it's hard to screw up abcon and eggs but lets face it, some people can definitely screw it up. The  Alamo Cafe nails it every time. They have great bacon and the eggs benedict is delicious. My gf and her mom had huevos rancheros and raved about it.

The prices are very reasonable and the service is friendly.

The only bad thing is that it's a small place (not good for groups) and it's popular so you usually have to wait for a table.

Other than that I love it and I'll be back.

Came here for Sunday brounch around 10:20am and of course there wasn't an open seat in this little cafe.  We had a group of 5, so it was bit of a wait, we finally were seated about 10:45am which isn't bad at all.

I would not recommend this place to parties 4+ because they just don't have the space to accomadate.  Regardless, we made the best of it.  We were promptly served drinks after being seated and placed our orders right away.  My sis-in-law said the coffee was atrocious, but whatever she's prolly a coffee snob ;)

I ordered the half order of huevos rancheros and it was seriously SO GOOD.  I would gladly order it again...it was the perfect size, the only complaint comes from the meager side of potatoes it came with.  Would've been nice if there was a little more...otherwise both my bf + mom ordered the eggs benedict.  Mom said it was probably the best benny she'd ever had!  The bf's eggs were over poached and not runny, which is unfortunate.  He was also skeptical about the real slices of ham vs canadian bacon, it turned out to be so much better!

I would totally come back here...great food, reasonable prices, can't complain.  Oh beware, there's no restroom!

We have only eaten here for breakfast. The food here is traditional, but every bite is delicious. We don't go as often as we like because the place is really small, unless you arrive earlier in the morning, it's hard to park in the lot and the really good dishes are greasy. But I would say this place is great and the prices are sooooo reasonable for Alamo!

We came here a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning wanting to find a new cafe somewhere away from the area.   Driving up to Alamo cafe reminded me of a town I visited out in Alabama. It had an old feel to it with a warm presence.  We were lucky that there were a few seats left and I sat right near the door. On the wall I saw the special, Chicken Fried Steak and I knew I didn't have to open the menu. I already had my mind set.  The CFS was pretty tasty and the home fries had a great seasoning.  They must go through a lot of potatoes a day since I saw the cooks bring out 6 huge bowls of prepped potatoes. I really liked how they had the diner stools and the kitchen was right in your face.  There was a family that walked in and the waiter knew everyone's drink order for the table before they even ordered it. I thought that was cool in itself.  I would go back and bring new folks to try it out.

Great traditional breakfast. I've always been able to find a spot at the bar. The biscuits & gravy are the best I've had in along time. Service is fast and friendly. I'd give them 5 stars, but the coffee needs some serious work.

I have such fond memories of coming to this place as a child, though the ownership may have changed since then.  My childhood neighbors own the land that the Hay & Grain sits on next door and their mom would always say, "Who wants to go to the Greasy Spoon??"  They had a henhouse so their visits to the Hay & Grain were frequent, and I always looked forward to a ride along that included a stop at this joint. This place is a real deal diner (of which there are not many in this part of California).  Coming here is a bit like stepping back in time somehow.  Good people, good food, and good memories. :)

I've been eating here regularly since moving nearby, & I couldn't be more pleased to discover this spot. The food & service are great, & I give it a full 5 stars for the value, which is extraordinary.

Standouts are their blueberry pancakes, eggs benedict, & corned beef. The later is made there, not out of a can, & served shaved (not chunky style). The service is friendly & prompt. Go there often & they will recognize you (disclaimer: I always go later, so I can't say what the early-morning scene is like). The restaurant is small in size, so plan ahead if you expect a crowd.

I love breakfast dining, & this has quickly become one of my favorite East Bay spots. It has very good food & is a tremendous value!

the service here is great! I wanted biscuits and gravy but at the same time wanted bacon and eggs. she suggested to get the biscuits and gravy instead of toast. really nice and accommodating. :)

not a lot of parking and a small place so I could see how it could be tough getting in during peak breakfast hours. I got here at 1030am and was able to snag the last parking spot and stool at the counter.

everything tastes really fresh. one thing that would have made it perfect for me is if they had hashbrowns, they only have homefries but still good. I would definitely recommend going here if in the area.

We went here for breakfast saturday and really enjoyed it. The bacon was super crisp and the toast was delicious sourdough. The eggs could have been taken off the grille a moment faster, but still good. I liked the potatoes, but next time I will request they crisp them up a smidge - they were a little soggy.

My only complaint is that my date got a side of bacon, and the side of bacon was nearly as expensive as either of our meals - I didn't really get that.

Other than that, just delightful, and I can't wait to go back and try the biscuits and gravy, only sold on weekends.

Came here for a quick breakfast. This is a definite go to local breakfast spot. Ordered the breakfast burrito which consisted of egg, sausage, cheese. Pretty good and satisfying. The country potatoes were way too greasy to eat, coffee was good and service prompt. Was alittle weird that they didn't have a restroom, so make sure you don't drink alot of coffee. Overall, place is a decent breakfast joint.

Our families favorite greasy spoon!  We love the breakfasts here.  One daughter always gets the corned beef hash and is never dissapointed!  Other daughter gets the vegetarian version with just the red skinned potatoes with onion and bell pepper and always gobbles them up.  She also loves the coffee.  For me, the biscuit and gravy is a favorite as is their delish bacon.  I also love that they carry not only 2% but also whole milk (which I try not to indulge in on a regular basis but it's a nice treat to go with my yummy meal here).

A true breakfast resteraunt buried in Alamo that isn't over the top or fancy.  You want eggs and bacon with some orange juice?  You want it cheap and fast?  I'd come here for sure.  It's a super small place with a counter and bar stools along with tables for groups.  The service is friendly and fast and the food selection is basic.

Like Mrs. Tam F. said, it's not the best food but it's good and it hits the spot.  It's great to know that a place like this can survive in this economy and in downtown Alamo.

Blue coffee cups. Seats about 30.  Need more info? ok

The short version. Open till 2. It's a breakfast and lunch menu.  Average $6 for most items.  They have really good bacon.  Parking is terrible.  No restrooms that I could find either.

    Want more? ok

This the quintisential hole-in-the-wall of a diner across from the Alamo Plaza.  It was nice to smell the bacon aroma outside and find out where it was coming from.  You can't tell what this place is like from the street.  You have to walk in.  It's galley style kitchen that is very open and raw.  You can see everything: the sink where they wash the dishes, their supply of eggs, the family size box of Cheerios...  everything.  Nothing cosmetic here.  A kitchen, a counter, and tables.  The only decoration was a small wall rack of various coffee cups.  Well, there was a small blast heater up near the open beam ceiling.

The bacon was GREAT!  They are big on Jimmy Dean sausage.  One look at the menu and you'll see what I mean.  I'll just say the food was pretty good.  I'd say the value was there.

This place is obviously supported by locals and regulars.  The staff was very friendly to them.  Things didn't warm up for me till I was about to pay.  Maybe cause I'm an unfamiliar face, I didn't see a smile till it was time to decide on a tip.  Not a big deal, but worth noting.  The regulars seemed very at home here.  I could overhear conversations about what people were doing that day, as well as peoples view on politics and the world.

This place is worth the visit.  Go!

Two  words to describe this place. "fresh" and "clean."  Words that don't typically describe a greasy spoon diner.  (maybe that's why it's called a café)

This is small corner breakfast restaurant tucked away in the heart of Alamo on Danville Blvd., at  Stone Valley Rd. exit of Hwy 680. The place is pretty small, seating only about 30 people, but it's one of the cleanest diners I've been to. There's no public restroom, so you'll need to ask one of the staff members to use a cramped one in the back.

My wife and I decided on:

"Randy's  Special" 2 Scrambled eggs mixed in with ham, linguica, bell peppers, onions, mushroom, cheddar cheese, along side fresh cut home fries and toast.

"Corned Beef Hash" Eggs served  over  fresh- sliced corned beef, mixed with onions, bell peppers and home fries along side toast.

The food is rather basic but fresh. I saw the corned beef being sliced and the veggies prepped as the cook piled it on the fryer in front of me behind the counter.  There's really nothing complicated about the dishes here. The portions are decent the price is reasonable.  With a hospitable waiting staff,  a mixed bag  friendly locals and visiting patrons,  this place gains a favorable rating from me. So if you're in the area, stop by.

This is a hole in the wall, old fashioned, greasy spoon, Mayberry meets suburbia type of place. Menu offerings are slim-breakfast and lunch only. Flat top grill for frying everything on and nothing fancy. Jimmy Dean sausage, biscuits and eggs will run you around $5.50. Burgers with chips around $6.00.

This is not fancy food, but it is hot and fresh. Service is friendly and it is definitely a place for locals. It is also very senior friendly and for the price, affordable for most.

Food is decent, not a place I would seek out, but glad to know this type of place exists out in fancy pants town.

I really wanted to like this place since there were raving reviews about the food.  But alas, no....
Ok, I'l start with the good.  The chicken fried steak is pretty good.  Nice and flavorful and a decent size.  Thats about it..
Here comes the bad.  I came in exactly at 12 noon for lunch.   Only one other customer eating.  The blond waitress was munching on a sandwich at the counter.  Actually I didn't even know she was a waitress until she came to my table after a couple more bites, and asked me what I wanted to drink.  She seemed very moody or just didn't want to be there.  After ordering, my food came about 5 minutes later and the home potatoes were pretty greasy and the eggs were very small.  I had to get up and ask for refills for my soda also.  Mind you there is now only 2 other customers in the restaurant.  She seemed very friendly to them though.  Oh did I forget to mention that I was the only non-white person here.  I try to be open minded, but this was just too obvious.  Why do I even come to Alamo?  Oh right, I work here unfortunately.

This place is an actual diner - not a Johnny Rockets wannabe type.  You can expect your standard breakfast and lunch items here (biscuits and gravy, pancakes, french toast, omelets, burgers, "specials of the day", etc)  - of course, if you would like to upgrade your sausage to "Jimmy Dean", that will cost you $1 extra - but well worth it!  I am a fan of their blueberry pancakes, as they have the cooking time perfected - unlike several places where you can end up with some funky batter in your mouth if the blueberry/batter ratio is off.

The place is small - 4 tables and approximately 10 diner seats (oops - I guess next time I should actually count them?).  But don't let that deter you from trying this place out.  There are several "regulars" that inhabit one corner table on most mornings - but they are harmless, a bunch of "guy's guys" talking about their home improvement projects and the like.

The staff is kind and attentive and quick to get your coffee refilled....a must for any true diner!

I've always referred to this palce as The Greasy Spoon.

I ate here this morning for the first time since I was a kid and used to order the Mouse Pancakes. Those were awesome.

This time, as mature as I am now in my adult life, I got a coffee, two pancakes and an egg. It was basic diner food. They did have hazelnut creamer though - which rules! The pancakes were thin and not as good as some, but like I said, for a diner it satisfied.

It's a fun little place to go, the portions are big, and you will probably see some interesting people come through. There are only 4 tables and the counter, you can see the food being made from anywhere you sit. Also, if you live in the area you may have received a free entree coupon in the mail. Works well for a quick, cheap breakfast.

    Decent portions and decent prices.

A bit awkward as I was 1) the only female in the restaurant other then the waitress/cook and 2) the only non-caucasian in the room.

Service was a bit spotty.  Waitress/cook went to do something and didn't come back for a while so I just sat there waiting to order and no one was around.

Hands down, best breakfast you can get in the area.  I love sitting at the counter and watching the cooks prepare the food.

Wait, I love that they have a counter.  I love that this is a real, honest to goodness diner.  No town without a diner is a town worth living in, in my book.

The only minus - it's small with not much capacity.

I've been to the Alamo Cafe many times and I'm a little confused by the reviews. It's my second choice (maybe third) in the area. If you're looking for classic greasy spoon, this is the place to go locally. I don't mean that in anything but the most complimentary way. I don't expect anything more than that. It's sort of fun to watch the local regulars gather and grouse over their coffee, but the food is average at best. Maybe I've never ordered their very best dishes. Anyway, the most I'd ever give the place is three stars.

This is our favorite place to eat after church on Sunday!
We have a family of 8 so the fact that we take up half of the seating and have to wait a while for that seating is the only down side...

We love the old "greasy spoon" (no offense Alamo cafe) feel and home town hospitality but especially the food. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu and the healthy portions are the perfect prelude to a Sunday nap...

This is HOME!!  I go here once a week and no matter who the waiters or waitresses are they know me and my usual 1/2 order of Biscuits and Gravy (best in the entire bay area, I think I have tried them all, seriously).  As previous posts have mentioned it's small but it is what it is a small community diner where you can hear an interesting story from a neighbor and know the plans, family, and lifestyle of the employees.  Come here for grubb and a hometown diner and you will be satisfied.  They did chic it up a little in January but it's still classic diner style. shhh this is my secret breakfast place. I am usually at the counter with a visor turned backwards, say hi and bring an interesting story.

I hit this place about once a month for breakfast.  Food is great.  Old School comfort food the way it should be.  Eggs, potatoes, pancakes and Jimmy Dean sausage.  Can't make a better breakfast than that.  Yes, it's small and getting a seat can be hit or miss when it's busy, but that's part of the charm.  I avoid Denny's at all cost and I'm glad places like this are still around.  Thanks.
