Great outdoor place to get many of your errands done & grab a bite to eat! I usually come here to eat at Sushi House, Panera or Chipotle, grab a drink from Jamba Juice, drop off my dry cleaning at Martinizing, pick up a movie at Blockbuster, take my pooch shopping at Petco, fill up the tank at the Safeway gas station, drop off a package at the post office, and go grocery shopping at either the hugemongous Safeway or the decent sized Trader Joes.

Other stores I'll sometimes visit are Bed, Bath & Beyond... large as usual, Beverly's when I'm in the mood to be artsy, See's Candy when the sweet tooth is kicking in, Starbucks when I need a drink to warm me up, Old Navy for their cheap flip-flops, and Kohl's. Overall diverse stores here. Recommended as a one stop shop for errands!

So glad they changed the name back to South Shore!!! For a short time it was called Alameda Towne Center. It just didn't feel right!

Plenty of parking on the front and back sides.

Love being able to roll down the hill and down to this shopping center (sez the suburban working mom). Huge Safeway plus a Trader Joe's next to it, Color Me Mine, Kohl's....and the bowling alley and beach across the street are a plus.

Had to knock off a star for lack of a bookstore (miss Borders). Ohhh, and on occasion, the cash registers at Safeway tend to lock up on sporadic Sundays l.

    South Shore Center!
Grew up with the original and miss it BUT this one is kind of like the
    Disney on Main St. version.

It has come a long way and seems to finally be thriving.

    Yay!

Now, add a movie theatre, maybe a small amusement park and you got the 'new' old days.

This mall is ok. But I wish they kept it looking the way it was in the 90's. I wish KB Toy store was still at this mall. When this mall changed it lost so good stores. Like Blockbuster and KB Toy store.

Nice outdoor shopping center with good restaurant choices, clothing stores & a Trader Joe's. We usually eat at Sushi House then take a stroll around the center to walk off all the sushi.

The name is back but this isn't your old Alameda South Shore.

Adios Alameda Towne Center, you were like Becky Number 2 from Roseanne. You were there, you took the show to a different level but we longed to see the old Becky.

South Shore is flanked with a bunch of "big box retailers". Old Navy, Ross, TJ Max, Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond, Panera Bread, Trader Joes, and much more! But if you look a little closer, there's remnants of old business: Alameda Beauty, Alameda Towne Cleaners and Alterations, Bon Voyage, and a few others.

Tons of parking and the open air feeling is nice!

It's about time you decided to go back to being officially called "South Shore" instead of the lame "Alameda Towne Centre." It's not like anyone really called it anything else but "South Shore".

Sad for Borders.. I wonder what would replace it? A good decent restaurant would be nice.. I'm running out of places to try!

This is a great mall that is so different from all the others.  You won't see as many stores as other East Bay malls, such as Sun Valley and Stoneridge, but the charm of this place cannot be copied anywhere else.  It is the most beautiful outdoor mall in the Bay Area, having been renovated recently, and it is right on the beach!

It has Kohl's, Old Navy, Ross, TJ Maxx, Children's Place, Chipotle, OfficeMax, and Trader Joe's.  It is also the home to the Sushi House, which is a fantastic sushi spot known for its tasty Lion King roll.  There's even a Sprint store, and it's never busy.  There are a few vacant in-line stores along the interior area due to the recent recession, but once the economy picks up steam, this place will be even more amazing.  The one downside is, it's so far into town from the freeways so newcomers will have trouble finding it, but I guess that also helps preserve the neighborly feel of this place.  People are just so friendly and you never run into rude crowds, like at Bay Fair Mall.

Even when not shopping, my wife and I just love strolling around the interior area, with a Starbucks mocha in hand.  Just pleasant and relaxing.

Living in Oakland, I was excited to find a shopping center so nearby, that I could get to without having to hop on the freeway. All your inexpensive essential stores (Kohls, Ross, TJ Max, etc), and located right across from the water! Such an open, breezy, & refreshing location. Love South Shore!

I posted a review about an open carry situation at South Shore Center last week. I was waiting to hear back from Brad Wick, general manager of the center. This is what he said.
    Matt-
I have been able to get a "read" on the law + our responsibilities regarding people w weapons such as what occurred yesterday.
The guys yesterday are not permitted to have those weapons. Alameda PD should have been called + will be in all instances going forward. Our Security team and/or Mgmt will make that call as we want APD to handle/diffuse that situation and get them off property.
I can assure you that since this activity is illegal-we will not knowingly permit these people on property.
I apologize for your wife's justifiable anxiety as well as other people's as well.  We had never been confronted w such a scenario thus the confusion.
We are better prepared on how to handle this going forward.
Again, my apologies to your wife.
    Brad Wick, General Manager
    Alameda South Shore Center
