They are still making really great pizza here! Mmmmm!
I want to tell about the pizza we got from here last night. It was called... seafood something. (er, sorry, no online menu.) Anyway, it was clams, bay shrimp, garlic, fresh tomatoes, and cheese. It was to die for! I had leftovers for breakfast today.
Very very nice! :)1 Previous Review: Show all »

San Francisco, CA
My mom said she wanted pizza, so I said let's go! I took a quick peek at Yelp and the closest place was Alameda Pizza. It seemed to have decent reviews.
The place is a bare bones little dump and everything is dusty. But, whatevs, we were looking to eat some good pie. After reviewing the offerings on the menu board, we decided to go with 1/2 Kitchen Sink and 1/2 Hawaiian. Mom is a huge fan of the pineapple.
When I told the guy behind the counter what we wanted he told me it would be an additional $1.75. I asked why. He explained to me that it was more time consuming and difficult to make two different pizza types on single pie. Seriously? Weaksauce (no pun intended). Two guys behind the counter and no one else even in the place and he was worried about time?
So, we ended up with the whole Kitchen Sink. The best part about this pizza was that it was hot. Everything else about it was forgettable. Utterly forgettable. -

$31++ for a large (not extra large), soggy pizza with toppings that slid off the pizza immediately with a little sauce and a little cheese that made it seem like a hot salad with tasteless, unripe tomatoes. Included one soft drink. Sadness with injury to wallet.

Came in today - Tuesday November 8th, 2011 for a slice of pizza. Every slice of pizza is pre-made with cheese and then they add the toppings at a cost of $0.50 each. I selected a Diet Coke and Slice of Pepperoni for $5.17.
Overall the slice was average at best - classic industrial cheese and sauce. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. Round Table or Mountain Mike's Pizza Buffet is higher quality and roughly the same price. -

This is the closest I have come to east coast pizza in the east bay. Thin crust and good sauce. It feels like a real east cost pizzeria as well, small and old school. I also like that they sell by the slice, the plain cheese is my recommendation
No frills. -

I read the reviews. Took a chance. Too salty and too expensive. A medium pepperoni cost me $17.58. Really? Had Lanesplitters yesterday. So much better. Really.

The pizza was good pasta was cold. The problem was with completely over-charging me and not owning up to it. All I have to say is I ordered a large pepp, sal, and mushroom pizza with an a la carte ravioli...charged me $40.37. Delivered.WTF? -
Review from Liz Z.
we ordered an extra large plain cheese pizza and a 2-liter orange soda for takeout for lunch today. the price was kinda steep for what we got (more than $20 per the receipt) for the pie since we started wishing Croll's would've been open earlier or that there was a Papa John's on the Island. the pizza was greasy and the sauce tasted like 'ketchup.' eh. at least we tried it and now know that we either (a) make our own pizza, or (b) wait for to feed our cravings for Croll's to open. NOTE: there are no recent menus online with the correct pricing nor does this place have a functioning website. you order at your own discretion.

This pizza was decent. Eatable. Very expensive. But I am learning that EVERYTHING is expensive in bay area. :-(

We had the Kitchen Sink pizza. It was good, but nothing spectacular.
They advertise draft beer yet only have five or six bottled beer on hand. What gives?
The staff was unfriendly and not personable at all. Seriously, we were the only people there and the only time we were spoken to was when we ordered and paid. Even when they dropped the pie off at the table, no words were uttered.
I don't think I'll return. -

Alameda pizza is a god-send! Some friends and I were on our way back to the bay area after a road trip to Portland and we decided it would be a great idea to order a pizza and pick it up on the way. After reading some yelp reviews we quickly decided Alameda was the place to go. Not only did they stay open for us until we got there to pick up our pizza, they had an amazing selection of goodies (very important for us veggie heads). We ordered a spinach, garlic and mushroom alfredo pizza. It was amazing! Probably amongst the BEST pizza's I have ever had. The crust was so yummy, you could tell it was home-made! I highly recommend this place to anyone in the bay area looking for a fun little get-away.
Since our experience, we made the drive from Monterey TWICE just to have some Alameda. Seriously worth it! You won't regret it! -

Alameda, CA
The guy behind the counter was nice. The service was prompt. The pizza was terrible, a crust underdone and gummy in the center. Sausage in uniform bits which looked like dog kibble. Industrial cheese and sauce.
I want to see independent places thrive but they will never do it by providing the same or lesser quality as fast food factory outlets. -

Alameda, CA
I want to give this place a good review, but the other night I ordered a deep dish from Alameda Pizza that was just a poor excuse for pizza. The dough in the middle of the pizza was all cheese and was undercooked so that I had to scrape it off of the box. I understand it may be harder to get a deep dish right but the cook should have never given us this pie. When we called to complain and get a refund (something I have never done) the cook laughed and said that he knows it was sub-par and he shouldn't have sent it out. Of course there was no manager there to help us and when we called back the next day, he was still not there to help us.
I am no fan of chain fast food restaurants, but my advice is to save your 30 bucks and get a 5$ pizza from Dominoes. -

Los Angeles, CA
Most definitely 5 Star taste... but with 3 Star service.
$2.50 per slice with cheese and sauce, $.50 for each additional topping.
I ordered 2 slices of pizza, one with ground beef, the other with garlic. Given that I've read other reviews on this place about how the pizza is AMAZING, I went in there with very high expectations.
Well, they did not disappoint. The pizza was perfect... perfect temperature, perfect taste, perfect size. They advertise "Giant Slices." I'm gonna have to say... not quite. If you've ever eaten at Sbarro, the slices of pizza are exactly that size. While the slices are, admittedly, quite large, they aren't "Giant."
The two guys working inside seemed pretty unpleasant. When I walked in, I was greeted with... a non-greeting. They kinda looked at me, then looked away. It wasn't until I said, "so you sell pizza by the slice... how does that work?" before they responded.
Before leaving, I asked if they had small packets of red pepper. The guy shook his head and said "people usually use that jar over there" and gestured to the container of red pepper right in front of me.
As I said, the food was great, but the service was less than good. I'll still give them the benefit of the doubt and go with a 4 Star experience because of how good the pizza was. -

Let me save you a lot of time. Buy your pizza here!!
I think I"ve tried just about every pizza place in Alameda, and I personally think this is the best.
First of all they don't skimp on the topping like other pizza joints on Park Street, between Encinal and Buena Vista...who shall remain nameless (on the east side of the street). :)
I can also taste the freshness and the crust is perfectly crispy, the way I like it.
Give it a try and see what you think.Listed in: Random Alameda

Wow.
(You know when I start a review off like this.. I'm going to be raving for a minute or two).
I've often debated trying Alameda Pizza because the prices are a little high and I'm often wary of restaurants that are on the expensive side and then you try their food and you're like, "Oh."
(You basically feel completely ripped off---not to mention broke).
I finally walked into this place today and immediately thought it looked like one of those places in movies like the Professional or something... You know... dead quiet/sleepy and super old fashioned / homey feeling.
... I kinda like that about it.
Two men worked behind the counter, both of whom I had the pleasure of talking to. I asked them how long they've been in business in Alameda and he told me 17 years. WOW! I started getting excited to see what they could do....
I ordered one slice of mushroom and to my satisfaction I noticed they also sell baklava (which is always expensive no matter where you get it from).
$3.00 for the 1 topping slice and $1.50 for the dessert.
At this point I was scared.
What if the pizza was horrible? Too small? What if I had to repeat the entire order AGAIN just to get satisfied? What if the pizza they made the slice out of has been out for a while?? $5 down the toilet when I could have just picked up a large 1 topping from Domino's for $6!
My fears were immediately quelled when one of the men brought my food to me.
The pizza was a good sized slice and the baklava, however initially small in appearance, turned out to be nice and fat (which is good).
I ate in delight.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
- This slice of pizza was literally perfect. The mushrooms were fresh, juicy, and baked just right.
- The dough/crust was the perfect amount of crunchy.
- The sauce was not overpowering but also delish.
- The pizza was also just the right temperature when served to me.
I especially loved how there was none of that gross "added cheese" nastiness on top of the mushroom (signifying they reheated the old pizza and added a lil extra cheese to help keep it on top).
I give that slice of pizza 5 stars by itself.
(Honestly, it rivals Serrano's in SF's Mission district, but Serrano's slightly wins for the slices being a little larger).
I now know where to go on the west side of the island for a damn good slice of pizza. AND BAKLAVA! It's so cool they have this too.
I was thoroughly satisfied and full.
CONCLUSION:
I love being pleasantly surprised! I loved the special atmosphere of the place, the cordial service, and the delicious food.

I should blame this awesome place for the extra-plushness my behind has been sporting lately, but how can I (especially when I call THEM, and not the other way around?)
Instead, I'll just share that the folks at Alameda Pizza are professional, extremely busy (it usually takes around 45 minutes - 1 hour to get my stuff, but it's so worth it), and RIGHT on point. Unlike with Bowzer's Pizza or Mountain Mike's (other Alameda pizza-pie-establishments), A.P. has never flubbed an order - -and that's saying a lot, considering how often we get their delivery. Personally, I love their kitchen sink and Alameda pizzas, and we always grab one of their salads -- the mediterranean especially is filled with capers, red onions, and fresh cheese -- very good!
Simply put, I've never gone wrong ordering from this place. Word. -

Revision: Honestly I'm a bit upset with this place lately, this has always been my favorite pizza spot in Alameda, but last time I went they gave me burnt slices. Time before that I got a funky smelling pizza...
Normally they're VERY GOOD so I'm hoping this was just a glitch or hiccup in their long history of great food....
I'll keep this updated as I return for more pizza.Listed in: My Neighborhood

We ordered delivery from Alameda Pizza a few nights ago based on the reviews. By far, the best pizza in Alameda!!! So good, we ordered it again tonight!
The pizza dough taste nice and fresh, & generous with the toppings.
They're friendly over the phone and at the door. Delivery was quick (within 30 minutes) and better than your "cheaper" pizza options *coughdominoscough*
Hands down, our loyalty is now with Alameda Pizza! -

So I'm munching on one now. I called at 2:50 and it arrived at 3:22, exactly within their stated timeframe and perfect for a thoroughly mellow Saturday afternoon in Alameda.
Nice crispy crust. Massive, fresh toppings. Wasn't swimming in grease, tough to do with all that cheese piled on it.
Not astounding, but above par. Happy mellow nom'ings. nom nom. Sigh. nom.

We got pizza delivered from here for the first time last night. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a large Caeser salad and a "weight watcher" # 2 pizza (thin crust w/ pesto, sun dried tomato, zuchinni, red onion, bell pepper, mushroom, lite mozz, and parm). The salad didn't look too great, but the dressing was surprisingly good. Very lemony and creamy. Could they possibly make it in-house??
Pizza was good too. Not sure how "weight watcher" it was (especially when you eat 8 peices. ahem), but it sure was tasty. Lots of fresh veggies, good, not too greasy pesto, light on the cheese. Delivery was pretty prompt and friendly.
While eating, we had fun reading the menu, which is very long and has many misspellings and some odd items. A side of sausage patty with meat sauce, anyone? Perhaps some "fetuccine alferdo"? "Mozerla" on the pizza? "Kalanata" olives on the salad?
Yeah, we're easily amused. -

This pizza is quite good--i'd say it's "amazing" because I've not yet been able to find a pizza near me that is as good as Arinell or Track Town Pizza (Eugene, OR). I can't believe how hard it is to find good pizza in this area. For the 6 years I've lived in Oakland, I've finally found a pizza place (other than Arinell) that I actually like.
The sauce is lovely, generous toppings, nice crust...
Definitely our new go-to delivery pizza place! -

Well, they deliver which is most important.
And the greek salad is always a joy.
The pizza crust is quite divine--almost like naan--a bit of sourness there that makes it very good. Sometimes the pizza is rather lackluster, but not too terribly bad.
I must admit tho' that my favorite is the calzone. Oh so divine! -

Fort Myers, FL
Dont hate but I am from the eastcoast and with that stated up front, I am used to gettin my thin crust pizza pie with the ability to fold it up on itself and eat it till I have the big O.
Tripping over this place, I have found the east coast version (or as close to it as it gets) with Alameda Pizza.
Have ordered a few other things there: greek salad is huge. The lasagna sauce had a questionable flavor and the presentation reminded me of something that Stouffer's produces when you are too tired to cook your own.
Just stick with the pizza. The only 2 men I ever see in there are polite, friendly and accomodating.
It's a lovely, little independently owned pizza place that is no frills, not fancy and has a tv so you catch the baseball game because you had to work late and your friends sold your ticket to a scalper@!@!
For pizza, the prices are comparable to Dominos or Papa Johns -

My boyfriend and I ate here one day, we ordered The Kitchen Sink and it was delicious! It was hot and flavorable, just the right amount of toppings and cheese. They give you forks and knifes, and even a plate you could find in anyones kitchen cabinet. I would go back for the pizza, even though the venue is quite small, they know what they are doing!

We had the Sicily deep dish with Pepperoni, Linguica, olives, and artichoke hearts.... very yummy and the deep dish was different with the crust folding over half the pizza. I was hungry but could only eat one and a half slices...... yum. Very friendly service and no wait. I'm not sure if the other reviewers came on a bad night but the staff was pretty friendly to us.

Oakland, CA
It was a sad pizza day for me when I moved to Alameda about 11 years ago. One place after another had the same, Dominoes type crappy pizza. Then came Alameda Pizza. We couldn't believe how good it was, even by San Francisco and our East Coast standards. It must have been a fluke. So we tried again. And again. And again again again again again.
We've since moved out of Alameda, but I still DRIVE from Oakland to get this pizza. Absolutely perfect balance of sauce and cheese. Sauce is really good, rich. Cheese is plentiful. Crust excellent. Their thin crust "weight watcher" is also excellent, an unusual combo of sun dried tomatoes, zucchini, lite mozzerella, onions. Delish and of course we eat two of 'em to make up for the healthiness factor...
If that weren't enough, and belive me, it is, they also make some of the best take-out wings in the Bay Area! Nice, large, meaty wings, coated in a slightly spicy, tangy sauce and baked in the pizza oven. Not fried, not covered in orange goop, highly recommended.
The small staff is as friendly as can be, will learn your name and preferences and treat you like a member of the family.
I wish they'd open a place up in Oakland! -

I was craving some cheap Italian the other day, calzoni or something to that effect, and seeking the aid of Yelp, I saw a listing and the idea of pizza enticed me. I read some reviews of this place and when I came across one that said it had baklava- I was out the door. You don't have to tell me twice.
I had three slices, double topping on each (plus one bonus slice- I'll get to that in a minute)- cheap went out the window in a flash; I wanted to get the overall feel for the place. One slice, pepperoni and mushroom, another pepperoni and pineapple (I had a sweet tooth calling out) were both good. The pineapple topping served me well later on as the slices in general seemed a bit salty. Ya, they don't skimp out on the toppings, so a plus there. My third slice however, a sun dried tomatoes and spinach, was ok. Some of the tomatoes were burnt, just a bit too long in the oven, maybe the combination topping was tricky to time.
The pizza bread itself was good and chewy, only the third slice was off a bit. I also like the fact that it was a thin crust. As to cutting the slices in half- not so much. For the size of their slices, I would have preferred to fold the pizza, next time I'm going to request no cutting. So yes, the pizza here warrants another visit and considering the other pizzerias in Alameda, this one tops them.
I did have two of their baklava and although small, they were good enough, and ya, that made it worth my short drive over there.
The lady behind the counter was nice and patient with me, for I took longer than usual to decide what to get and wasn't so clear at the outset. When my order to go was ready, she said that she included a free slice of cheese pizza (hence, the fourth). That was cool of her. That slice was good for the most, once again, just a tad bit salty, but hey it was free.
As I was waiting for my order I noted the interior was lit only by the decorative neon lighting, and yet it was bright enough. Being that it wasn't a busy nite, they didn't bother to turn on the main dining lights. Kudos for them for being green or thrifty, which ever way they swing it- worked good for me.
I ended up spending more than a cheap Italian meal that I had in mind, but in so doing, I've found a new place to fill my pizza craving in Alameda. -

Alameda, CA
I had high hopes for this pizza due to the reviews. However, little excited me about it once I got it. My husband and I ordered a large pepperoni and green pepper, and I was first shocked at how greasy it was. I don't think I have ever had a pizza that was this greasy. Some grease is good. But too much makes it hard to eat... it drips everywhere and is a threat to clothes. When I picked up the first piece, all the cheese and toppings fell off. This continued to happen with almost every piece. The underneath crust was way to thin to support the toppings. It made it very difficult to eat without utensils. I enjoyed the thick outer crust, but nothing else about the pizza was that good. I might have considered giving it another shot, but at $21 a pizza, I don't think I will go back.

So after trying nearly all the pizza places in alameda ( and feeling so-so about them), I decided to check Alameda pizza out based on the reviews here. I did not have any high hopes, based on what I have eaten around town already. And, yes, I am from NY and like a certain type of pizza.
Holy moly, was it good! Great crust, tasty sauce and the right amount of cheese. Thanks fellow yelpers for letting me know about Alameda Pizza! -

alameda pizza, from the outside, looks like an hole in the wall pizzeria . inside there's a cool ambience of a neighborhood bar albeit in a compact diining environment. the beer logos on the walls are hip and historical.
menu: sandwiches, pastas, calzones, pizzas.
flatscreen: not on when i was present.
sign unclear but i read it to mean 2.50 each slice cheese & sauce pizza.
extra topping .50 each extra toppings, sauce. and cheese, upcharge.
.
will not compare alameda's pizza with wood fired pizzas since they are totally different. will compare round table, pizza hut, et al.
the indiivdual ingredients was nice: the crust crispy, the mozzarrella stringy, the mushrooms fresh, the sauce was ok but there wasn't enough of it. the pizza felt dry. overall, the ingredients didn't form a
great pizza, just a good one.

I don't want to explain why this pizza is the bizz, because then you my just call me fatty. I could really go into some poetic detail about how damn good this pizza is. I keet it simple Pepperoni, and peppers on the side. I swear I never new it was so easy to feel New Yorkish while your on Alameda Island, it makes you just want to have a Sex and The City marathon. Also, if you plan on ordering let me recommend you have some nice cold beers, or a gin and tonic with plenty of lime. Call me when your done so you can tell me how your orgasm was.

We used to order from this place all the time. I called today to get our normal pizza and they said they weren't delivering for 2 1/2 hours because they had a birthday party. wtf? So because someone ordered 20 pizzas, too bad for all your regular customers? What kind of business sense is it to tell regular customers to buzz off cause you have a big order? I order way more than 20 pizzas over the course of a year from this place, but I guess they give their loyalty to the one time deal.
