This is a great little zoo if you have young children and just want to wander around for a couple hours.  Granted, it is small, but it is all what you make of it.  The annual passes and daily entrance fees are very inexpensive and fair for the size of the zoo.  Inside you will find a well kept zoo with various animals to include a bear, alligator, lions, tortoise, monkeys, wolves, birds, etc.  It is not so large that you and your kids are exhausted by the end of the visit and not too small where it takes only 10 minutes to walk through.  There are also a couple barbecue grills and a small park for the kids to play in.

My family has an annual pass and we often head to the zoo on the weekends to check in on the animals, have lunch (we bring food into the zoo), and spend some time letting the kids play at the park.  If I had to point out a negative it would be the hours during the week days.  Currently they close at 5 p.m. and I would love it if they stayed open later (even two or three days a week) so those of us that work during the day could visit in the evenings.

Overall it is a good value for the size of the zoo and something fun to do if you want to stay local.

Considering the size of the town, this is an awesome little zoo. Been here a buncha times and it's a nice difference from normal Alamogordo life. Great for little kids and fairly cheap.

Very impressed for $2.50 entrance fee. Don't be mistaken thinking this is going to be some big city zoo...however, El Paso's zoo was about $10 a person and barely any cages even had an animal in them. This place is nice and quaint and for $2.50 was a great value for my wife and I to walk around and spend an hour or so.

Neat little zoo in the middle of nowhere. I love to spend time here with the beautiful animals. Old school cage type enclosures, nonetheless the animals seen healthy and happy. The Otters are the best!

Great little zoo! Admission for children 3 & under is free! For three adults it was only $7.50 ($2.50 each). They are open on the weekends (which is when we went) but they only stay open until 5 pm. The size of the zoo is perfect for children. It only took us about 10-15 minutes to see the entire zoo. they have a nice little park and playground for the kids too. There were a few animal exhibits that were being renovated but other than that the place was clean and well kept. Unfortunately we didn't see to many of the animals, we went first thing in the morning (they open at 9am) and most of the animals were still in the dens or eating in the shade. My son loved the bear and coyotes. It is better to go when it is cooler outside. Not all of the exhibits have shaded areas where you are standing to view the animals. All of the animals we did see appeared to be well taken care of and content. My son loved the play area (which had swings, slides and other climbing structures. Overall a very pleasant experience.

I love this zoo!  The atmosphere is relaxed, none of the animals seem to be in distress, and the grounds are very clean and family-friendly.  Best of all, admission prices are minimal (less than $10 per person).  Whether you are visiting Alamogordo or living here, you need to check out the zoo!

This is not your typical city zoo.  This is billed as the "oldest zoo in the Southwest".  I'm not denying that claim, but it certainly isn't the best zoo in the Southwest.  They have a few animals, mostly birds.  They have some monkeys and the largest animal is a mountain lion and black bear from what I saw.  This is a nice zoo to take the family to for the day because there is a playground and picnic area.  If you are looking for a zoo to spend the day in, then you might want to pass, but if you are looking for something to do because you are bored then this zoo will fit the bill.
