Kids growing up around here are so lucky. This is playground in this park is SWEET! It's a huge area with so many things to climb on and under just perfect. I couldn't resit it and I had to play on it, swinging from the hanging rings like a monkey. =p

On the bottom level of the structure there are crawl spaces built in, it's a great place to get away from the hot mid-day sun and look at all the "art" kids drew inside. Fun stuff it's covered like the Sistine Chapel, I don't know how many adults get that vantage point but check it out yo.

Then as if that park wasn't cool enough there is a whale and shark chilling, great picture taking spot (I hugged the whale). The rest of the grassy park is shaded by trees, the coolest ones are the large Moreton Bay Fig trees that have twisted roots and stretching branches begging to be climbed on. Those trees just evoke happy memories of me in elementary school playing "tree tag". =)

Santa Barbara has it's fair share of vagrants, but in this park most seemed friendly and was there to enjoy a comfortable nap. Since I was here for the Summer Solstice celebration, there was vendors, food tents and a music.I bought some food and had a little picnic listening to music and watched barefooted hippies dance along with a couple of hooping girls. What a colorful place. =)

I have a 4 y/o that loves going to the park and this is by far one of the best parks I've visited and I have visited tons of them. What makes this a great park is the huge playground and the man made pond across the park filled with ducks and turtles...a beautiful place.

A great playground and park off just off the downtown. The centerpiece is the "Kid's World" play structure. Its rather big and complex with lots of nooks and crannies for exploring and pretending. (Parents be forewarned: the structure isn't really made for adults, so you might very well get stuck in a nook or a cranny.) Nice touch is a little theater -in-the-round stage in the mix for parents to sit and watch and/or for kids to pretend they are star performers. Also swings and sand near by.

As part of the same block, there is an expansive grassy area for playing catch, running around and barbecuing and picnics.

Across the street, there a garden with lilly pads, koi and ducks. Its nicely secluded form the hubbub of the neighborhood by trees and bushes.

Can't say much about the restroom, but I really love this park.  On one side of Micheltorena is a nice pond with lots of turtles, koi, and ducks.  You're not supposed to feed them, but everyone does it anyway.  It's pretty funny seeing the turtles getting shoved all around by the koi and kicked in the head by the ducks.  Looks like they used to have some cool speaker things here to tell you about the local flora and fauna, but the speakers don't seem to work anymore.  Also there's usually some hippies or ravers chilling in the gazebo or having "workshops" or whatever people used to do in the 90's.

If you cross the street, you'll find the Kid's World that Maryanne R. previously mentioned.  Really cool play structure, with tons of fun things to balance on and climb.  I don't fit through a lot of the play area structures, but the ones I do fit through are a blast.  Plenty of things that are way too shaky for me to balance on.  Only downside (I guess it would be an upside if you're a kid?) is there's usually tons of little kids running around here, and unless you're a jerk it's not really fair to the kids to hog their play equipment.  There's also a giant sculpture thing of a whale and a shark to play on.  Last time we were there some kids squished a bunch of berries or something in the sharks mouth, and it looked like guts and blood were pouring out of it's throat.  Really cool.

OMG I wish I could turn back time just to be a kid and get lost in the playground, it is a kids dream come true.

I took my nephews (2, 5, & 7) there on a recent trip to SB and they had such a blast they were all smiles and laughter the entire time!  When it finally came time to leave they didn't want to but I could tell they were dead tired when they didn't beg or cry about leaving.  The 3 boys knocked out the whole way back to the 310.

I recommend bringing food because you can easily spend hours at this place.

Keeping an eye on kids is could be competition at this playground.  It is so huge you can easily lose sight of them especially little ones.  Scary!

What a beautiful park!  Even has a koi/turtle pond!  I don't have kids (and I'm not a kid myself), but there is a really cool looking play area for kids.  Good for picnics, strolls, or lounging out with a book.

Best feature of this park is "Kid's World" which is a really cool, community-built, play area to climb on, slide down, balance on, chase through and just have a great time with your kids.  We lived right across the street from this park when we lived in Santa Barbara as newlyweds 13 years ago, and it's pretty cool to take our kids there to play when we are visiting Santa Barbara now.  I would give this place 5 stars, but the restroom is disgusting.  Take care of your business before you visit this park.

As city parks go, this is pretty darn amazing. Alameda park is a great place to lay down in the grass during a hot summer day while you listen to the wind blowing in the trees.  Numerous people, young and old, will be at the park eating lunch, walking hand in hand, or simply reading a book. We need more places like this in Los Angeles!

This place is fantastic! Acres of soft green grass, trees and places to BBQ or hang out with friends and family. My nieces and nephews love to come here and play at Kid's World, which is huge. When I was in college, the whole community built the structure, kind of like a community barn-raising. On the other side of Kid's World is Alice Keck memorial gardens, amazing and very beautiful. A spectacular way to spend the day.
